Writing romance and not actually being in love is tough. Especially when someone calls you out on it. In hindsight, I shouldn't have dwelled on it, but Lovers Magazine is the it magazine for romance writers. They’ll make or break a career with one review, and me? Well, I wasn’t going down without a fight. I’ll do anything to ensure I stay at the top. Not to mention author of the year is up for grabs.
I want that title, and as I said, I’ll do anything to get it.
Including spending the next two weeks traveling and working with a woman who despises me, dating a handful of strangers who are selected simply by replying to a survey and letting said woman who doesn’t care for me post the status of those dates online for the entire world to see on my social media accounts.
Did I really believe I’d find love over the two-week span of my book tour? No. Did I learn that I can write dozens of romance novels and still know nothing about love? Yep.
Turns out, love isn’t always fair, not even after you’ve found the right one.
The Write One…was right for me! I enjoyed Hero (the literal hero haha what a fantastic name!) the more I got to know him. I haven’t read about a male being a romance author before so it kept me interested to know what his own romantic life was like. The male group dynamic of his romance author friends was a treat - I love the true friendships shining through. There were points I literally laughed at their interactions. Nora was a gal I could root for - I liked her personality and ideas for Hero to save his career. She's a gal making it on her own (love me an independent gal!) who just happens to set up the guy she crushes on with other dates (lol). As the story progressed, we got to know more about each of them and watch their attraction intensify - which made me turn the pages quicker (the story heats up if you know what I mean! *wink*)! Jami Rogers crafted a fun and sexy story that kept my attention and made me want more of this world.
“The girl who got away is telling me to fall in love with someone else.” *swoons*
I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I received an advance copy of this book for a fair and honest review.
Loved this book. Nora and Hero’s story from start to finish had me wondering what they were going to do. Hero knows Nora from college and even tried to go out with her then but something happened and he never showed and Nora never forgave him. Now Nora back in their hometown with all their friends , most of which she works with. She doesn’t want to see Hero. Hero made a mistake and now Noras back will he be able to win her over again or is she just going to spend the rest of her life ignoring him. Then Hero needs Nora help, but will she be able to get over what happened in college to help him or is she going to turn him down. This book is amazing
Great start to a new series! The story starts with six romance writers, guys who have known each other since college. I loved their humor and friendship. The author starts the romance off with Hero and Nora's story. They have a hot chemistry but it's not all smooth sailing for them. It's well written and moves fluidly with perfectly painted scenes. I loved reading their story and am looking forward to the next book.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Great start to a new series that I can wait to add to my shelf. The story of Hero and Nora started out slow but you quickly catch on how hot and steamy they are for one another. The author did a good job with writing their story from a romance novels view and I look forward to reading more in this series to come.
*I received this book an ARC copy of this book to give my honey reviews and this is my free opinion. I can’t wait to see why else this brilliant author has next❤️
Received the ARC and let me tell you it was worth it you don’t read much about a male romance author so I was very interested this author did an amazing job and the tension between the main characters could be felt on every page i loved reading about hero and Nora and can’t wait to read more from this author
This was a Fantastic start to a new series. It is a slow burn with lots of depth. This book gave me all the feels. From laughing to frustrated to wanting to cry. You get to meet a group of six guys who are all romance authors who have known each other since college. This group of men are hilarious and do not hesitate to call each other out. Nora and Hero met in college and almost dated. Now, years later they get thrown together for a book tour and take the opportunity to start something. Wow, these two are hot together. These two have lots of feelings and insecurities to overcome. I love their HFN ending. Can't wait for the next book in the series. I was sent a free book and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
Well-written, good pace, got me laughing out loud more than once, enjoyed the group of romance-writer guys. Was a slow burn for part of it, and some of those dates were a hoot. Had a good ending and left a good feel, enough to go back and reread some parts.
This story had a number of good elements, including:
- A romance writing group composed entirely of men (refreshingly out of the ordinary from my reading experience);
- A male lead (with a cool name!) who knows what he wants but gives the female lead space when she asks;
- Good suspense as you wait to find out just why their budding relationship went south the first time;
- An interesting glimpse into the non-writing side of creating a bestseller. I never really understood how much those book signings, personal appearances and media posts influenced the writer's life;
and - Good writing that's easy to read, flows well.
What did not grab me so much?
- Nora, the female lead, her penchant for revenge and her rush to conclusions; and
- The intimate scenes (at times, a little too descriptive for my taste).
All in all, enjoyable, and the confabs between the guys were a great change from the typical heterosexual romance where women gather and bond.
Do I want to read more as this series develops? Yes, definitely.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
Their entire relationship is miscommunication. They don't address issues and make assumptions. She needs therapy and he needs to be aware of how she works. Her issues are hinted at because they aren't acknowledged as actual personality flaws. She says no and everyone but Hero doesn't take her seriously. That tells me she's not good at setting boundaries. She's also a workaholic that's also another classic sign. She decided long ago that she wasn't a priority to anyone, even herself. You don't jump to he will always pick his career over me based on one episode without it already being a trigger. She also avoids conflict to an unhealthy degree. So, she needs therapy. And he is just a dude. He might want to remember that real life isn't a romance novel that requires a grand gesture or miscommunication. Talking and showing every day is so much more important.
Such a fun and swoony start to what’s sure to be a fantastic series!
I love Jami Rogers’ writing—she has a way of crafting romance that feels both effortless and electric, and The Write One was no exception. Nora and Hero had the kind of slow-burn tension that makes it impossible to stop reading. Watching them fall for each other (even when they really didn’t want to) was such a treat.
This story had everything I love: enemies to lovers, forced proximity, a touch of second chance romance, and that cozy small-town charm that makes you want to move in. Add in just the right amount of spice (yep, there’s some heat!), and you’ve got the kind of book that leaves you smiling.
If this is how the series starts, I can’t wait to see what comes next!
This book swept me away with all the best Rom Com Moments! This was a great He Falls First romance that will remind you that sometimes spontaneity is really at the heart of romance. This book is filled with little glimpses of what makes love so magical and precious. From wedding crashing, to Run Away Brides, to suprise road trips and ad hoc Bucket Lists, you will find yourself smiling more than you thought a short romance could make you smile. Graham and Paige's story will make you so happy you spent a few hours with them, I know I read this book in two sittings and loved every minute!
Jami Rogers introduces us to a captivating world in The Write One, where the lines between fiction and reality blur in the most unexpected ways. The author's writing is both witty and heartfelt, capturing the nuances of modern relationships and the complexities of pursuing one's dreams. The chemistry between the main characters is palpable, so their interactions are both entertaining and emotionally resonant. Its portrayal of personal growth and the courage it takes to step out of one's comfort zone made this a wonderful book.
The Write One is a promising start to the Lust or Bust series, it will definitely leave you eager for more adventures and romances to come!
Fun dialogue between Hero, a romance author, and Nora, the girl he stood up on a date in college. As much as she wants to hate Hero, it is a battle between each other and themselves that leaves you wondering what will happen with them every chapter. Book 1 of the Lust or Bust series and I can’t wait to pick up another book and see how the rest of their all-male romance author friend group is doing!
But it could have been so much better. A handful of guys, who are all best friends, could be GQ cover models, single, and ALL OF THEM WRITE ROMANCE? In your dreams! I mean, in my dreams 😅 There was a lot of telling and conversation tags which I didn’t think were needed, but I got really invested in the characters.
It took me a little bit to actually get into this book it was a little bit of a slow start for me just being able to get hooked into the story but probably after about 25% of the way through I did start to really get interested into the story and started to get hooked on it and I really enjoyed the ending and how it all played out
I got this book in my Romance Reveal box. It's a slow burn but it's decent when it hits. The plot is cute. It was kind of predictable but that's not always a bad thing. I love Hero. He had me chuckling quite a few times. And the other male characters had me wanting to hang out with them. Over all I'd recommend for a quick read that'll make you smile.
The story was cute, and I was rooting for the leads, but I stumbled so much because the grammar was...bad. Unfortunately, it was bad enough to detract from the otherwise sweet story.
Author and agent story. She loved and lost him years ago. Will have nothing to do with him. But, suddenly he is going to miss out on writing awards if he can’t get her to fix his image. He finally gets her to let him hire her as his book marketing manager for tour that is meant to lead this male romance author to finding his love. Of course, she is his love.
