I was delighted to receive this little Christmas Devotional. If you are like me, you find the month of December nothing but a whirl of activity, often leaving no time for relaxing and spending time in God’s Word. Often we find ourselves leaving God out completely and not even recognizing HE is the reason we celebrate Christmas. However Zondervan had published this little book that only takes a few minutes of your time each day through the month of December to reconnect with God and the true meaning of Christmas.

At first I promised myself I would only read a few days, but found myself reading more and more until I had read the entire Devotion…now I can’t wait until December 1 to go back and really spend more time in reflection.

This book is a hard cover small book perfect for putting on the night stand by your bed to read when you first wake up or before you go to bed. It is beautifully illustrated on the cover and the inside as well. Each day has a Scripture and a reflection/story and a prayer.

This would also be a wonderful gift to give to someone during the Thanksgiving season, so they too could begin the right celebration of Christmas. Scriptures used are from several versions of the Bible, including ESV, The Holy Bible, NKJV and NIV, just to name a few.
I highly recommend this book, especially if you have difficulty making time to reflect on God’s Word during the busy holiday season.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher, Zondervan through BookLook Bloggers , Blogger Review Program. I was not required to give a favorable review just an honest opinion, nor was I compensated for my review—all opinions and musings are my own.

About the Book:

In the swirling busyness of December, take a moment to relax and reflect on the true meaning of Christmas

We all know that Christmas is a time to celebrate Christ the King born to us, to enjoy our family and friends, and to indulge in those annual traditions we look forward to every year. But even though we may understand the true reason for the season, far too few of us know how to celebrate Christmas as the time of peace that it is meant to be.

With a rich, daily devotion for every day of December, Devotions for Christmas offers you a way to unplug and spend some time reconnecting with a childlike sense of wonder and joy at the mystery and blessings of Christmas. Settle in and enjoy peaceful and hope-inspired Devotions for Christmas.

My Review:

Christmas is such a blessed time of the year! We focus on the love of our God sending His Son to save us all. And then we also turn our focus on friends, family, and loved ones and cherish some one on one time with them. It is such a joyous time. But what I really like is have a devotional time with Jesus during the Christmas season that centers around the holiday. It changes stuff up a little.

Zondervan has such a beautiful way of expressing Christmas through this latest devotional set just right for the season. Each devotion is about two pages long complete with a scripture and a beautiful holiday picture to commemorate the season. Some really beautiful photography in this book. This devotion is good for the entire month of December. It would make a great gift book, as well.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.

This short devotional decicated to the season of Christmas was a poignant read. Each day had a theme related to our usual experiences with Christmas, such as special meals, shopping, and ugly sweaters, and relating them back to the message and events of Jesus and his birth. While each read for the day was only a couple pages long, the message in them was short, sweet, to the point, and full of meaning. If you are looking for a something to read that focuses back on Christmas, this one might be a good one to take a look at. Not only will it lead you up to Christmas Day, but to the end of December and a new beginning.

In exchange for an honest review, I received this book for free through BookLook from Zondervan.

Good Christmas Devotional

I liked the encouragement given through the season and for afterwards. I suggest this book to all who wish to keep Christmas spiritual and not just Santa Claus. It should keep your mind on Christ. It's a little long but worth it. It can be kept for each year.

Best Devotional Book of the Season

This is one of the best Christmas devotional books I have read. It is certainly the best I have read this year. In addition to this, it is very professionally done with beautiful illustrations and a conclusion at the end of each devotion.

This book was given me by a friend, and I've read it several years with the kids at Christmastime, but we never seemed to finish it in the busyness of the season. Some of it was more geared towards grownups anyway.

This is the first year that I finished it. I found it to be very enheartening, making an overly-familiar story beautiful again. It linked many Christian thoughts of the season to our commonplace experiences of Christmas.

For example,

"For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing," - 2 Corinthians 2:15, (ESV)

This is the season of beautiful aromas - baking smells and scented candles. Likewise, we are to be the aroma of Christ, making life sweeter and bringing good remembrances. I had never thought to let Christmas scents be a reminder of being the aroma of Christ before. In what ways are we to be the aroma of Christ? (I had one friend answer that with an excellent answer: with forgiveness.)

I especially loved the brief prayers at the end of each section, accompanied with beautiful imagery.

Favorite Quotes:
“In our attempts to pull together something extraordinary, we spend a great deal of money, time, and energy on all the details. Creating an impressive Christmas can be exhausting, but there is good news … We do not need to create something extraordinary for God to show up.”

“Think back to … when Mary gave birth to Christ. As He drew in His first breaths, she wrapped Him in cloths and laid Him in the manger. Imagine the gentleness of those hands as they held the Savior and the nervousness of a new mama as she laid Him in the manger.

"Now, let’s imagine Joseph of Arimathea as He removed Christ’s body from the cross. Imagine the gentleness of those hands as they held the body of the Savior and the nervousness of a believer as he laid Him in the tomb. Were two sets of human hands ever as blessed as those of Mary and Joseph of Arimathea? The similarities in the way Mary and Joseph of Arimathea handled Christ’s body was not coincidental. We are meant to link the cradle and the cross together in our minds. They were always a part of the same circle of events. One was intended to lead to the other…

"Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the baby in the manger became the Man on the cross.”

"We do not need to create a spectacle to catch your attention, Lord. Faithfulness is what You seek. Help us to find Your beauty in the ordinary. Amen."

"Teach us to wait patiently for you, Lord. May we not fill ourselves with the things of this world. ive us an appetite for the things of God. Amen."

"We long to know every part of you, Lord, but You are more than our human minds can comprehend. Teach us to seek You and to lose ourselves in the mystery of You. Amen."

"Examine our hearts, Lord. Show us any areas where we have been artificial in our dealings with You or with others. Amen."

"Thank You, Lord, for entering our world in such a humble way. Thank You for that first modest Christmas at the manger - and for giving us a gift of infinite value. Amen."

"You are such a good Father. You reveal great things that bring our hearts comfort and joy. Amen."

"It's heartwarming to see our name on a gift tag, knowing that someone thought so much of us. Yet, no earthly gift compares to knowing that our names are written on Your hands and on Your heart. Thank You, Lord, for giving Your Son to us. Amen."

"Lord, Your birth is still worth celebrating and sharing. Help us to take the good news of Your coming to those around us. Amen."

"It is with great anticipation, Lord, that we await Your return. may we live in such a way that when You arrive, we can say, 'Yes, Lord, we were expecting You.' Amen."

I Love These Devotions

I just finished this beautiful book of Devotions on New Year's Eve Morning. What a beautiful book this is. It is such a blessing when preparing for the Birth of Jesus at Christmas and preparing to begin a New Year in just a few short hours. This is a time to put old things away and time to begin anew. This is a wonderful time to become closer to God and Jesus - on or before Christmas, New Year's Eve or Day - or any day of the year. This is a beautiful book to read before Christmas and New Years - but really, you can read this at any time of the year - for we are meant to celebrate God and Jesus every day. I recommend this book to those who love God and Jesus and to those who yearn for the living water. It is a blessing for you no matter where you are in your life.

Devotions are short, but meaningful. Many Christmas or Advent devotionals are the same thing with a new cover, so to speak, but this one is different. I really appreciate the daily themes and tie-ins to this festive season while linking all things back to Christ. Each reading offered opportunities for reflection along with a short, simple, yet meaningful prayer. To be honest because it’s so short I didn’t expect the depth, but it’s there and I really enjoyed it. Additionally the book itself is very visually appealing.

This was an amazing devotional. Unlike most Advent devotionals, this was dated from Dec 1 to Dec 31. I really enjoyed that as it prepared the reader for the new year as well as the Christmas season. It artfully tied in holiday traditions to assist in the lesson. Highly recommended.

Not bad, not really great. These were short devotionals for the whole month of December. They usually started out with a few questions. There were some that had keen insights. My wife & I read these each evening with our meal.

3.5-4 stars: Sweet little devotional for Advent/December. I liked that it completed the month. It is not in depth - but it had a scripture, a meditation and a prayer. I was easy to keep up with and beautiful in presentation.

This book is really light on everything. The daily readings are so short and not very inspiring. Would not recommend this for a Christmas devotional as there are much better ones out there.

Zondervan's new book, Devotions for Christmas, is a pretty little devotional with glossy pages, exquisite photography, and a fresh take on Christmas devotions.

I've read a lot of Christmas books over the years. This one presents the beauty of the meaning of Christmas in a unique way.

First, the devotional is dated from December 1 through December 31. This helps us focus on the LORD all month long.

Second, the topics center around many of the ideas, phrases, and things we use to celebrate Christmas. For instance, Home for the Holidays, Holiday Memories, Christmas Stockings, Going Caroling, Family Traditions, A Modest Christmas, The Aroma of Christmas, and A New Thing are just a few of the titles which help us keep Jesus at the center of it all.

The beauty of the book, the relevant topics, the memories triggered, and the focus on Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior all come together to make this a meaningful devotional perfect for your early mornings or evenings together or alone. It would also make an excellent early gift of love.

This book is a delight for the senses and the soul. It’s beautiful—the foil detail on the cover shines against a dark background. Snowflakes decorate the reading pages, and the days are separated by rich, colorful photos. Each day has a theme verse, devotion, and prayer. The daily format is short enough to enjoy in a few minutes, and thought-provoking enough to mull on throughout the day. This book is an ideal resource for families with older children to discuss over mealtimes or for adults to read on their December lunch breaks.

Two of my favorite devotions were December 6, An Ordinary Christmas, and December 10, Home for the Holidays. I liked that every day of December has a devotion, all the way to December 31, which is different from most other Christmas devotionals. I enjoyed this book very much and will be recommending it to friends and family. This book promises to be a Christmas treasure in our home for years to come.

I really love this book. It's smaller and shorter than I anticipated but in a hectic season it's okay for short and to the point. There are some great graphics that add to the feeling of the holidays and the first day is about how we need to slow down and really enjoy December. This would make a fun gift and it is nice to have a small devotional for the month of December.

Five stars.
