This book is not a call for the violent overthrow of the government, nor is it a call to take up arms, nor is it a call to political activism in and of itself. It is a call to something far more extreme, a call to live out the gospel with all its radical claims, a call for the people of God to impact this generation with the prophetic message of repentance, a call to spark the most sweeping counterculture movement in our nation's history, a call to take back the moral ground that has been stolen from under our feet, a call to follow Jesus by life or by death. In that sense, it is a call to start a revolution - now!
Michael L. Brown (born March 16, 1955) is a Messianic Jewish Old Testament scholar, professor, activist, itinerant speaker, and author who has preached in numerous countries and written twenty books. He is the founder and president of ICN Ministries. His writings have been translated into more than a dozen languages. He was married to Nancy Gurian on March 14, 1976 and they have two daughters, Jennifer and Megan, and four grandchildren.
A compelling book, Revolution by Dr. Michael Brown is written as a motivational book, a call to holiness and drive in the Christian walk. I found the chapters very thought-provoking regarding how I am living my life, and what needs to change in order to live completely for Christ. I found myself considering my own state of attitude with regards to my faith, and driven to go deeper in my relationship with Jesus.
The book was very slow at times, and I found that I could not read through it when I wasn't in the right state of mind to think about the topics mentioned. While I have no problem picking up a book on apologetics pretty much anytime, I had to be ready to think and pray when I picked up Revolution, or else it was useless and hard to read.
I recommend it for a read, if the topics I mentioned interest you. We are called, as Christians, into a lifestyle of sacrifice and revolution; we are called to tolerate what Jesus tolerates, and go out and change the world. That is why Michael Brown wrote this book.
Great book! Michael Brown wrote this book for young adults, but I feel it should be read by all Christians. Don't take the title the wrong way. This book is not about how to wage a war with man-made weapons as if we should wage jihad. The various chapters discuss how we should be living a truly Christian life and using our life and our words to make positive changes in the world.
This book convicted me greatly! I cried and had a hard time reading, at parts. Early on in my faith I knew there was something different about Christians in other countries versus Christians in the West. They seemed more sold out for Christ, than us. But this book goes into the why? And it has left me convicted. I prayed, cried and repented for my lukewarm faith, asking God to change my heart and make my faith sincere. Not an easy prayer. Because growth usually happens during trials and suffering. This book will probably never be super popular, but it will find its way into the hands of those God is purifying and refining for His Kingdom!
I have two complaints with this book - the random quotations from previous works of Brown (really? He had to reuse stuff?) and a repetitiveness that was not done well. Otherwise, this book was fantastic. The purpose is to stir in God's people the fire and passion to not hold back and to live for Him - the way revolutionaries live for their causes. And the desire to do so is definitely stirred up. Obviously, it is up to the individual to carry out that desire, but the purpose is achieved.
This was a good book, though I find that the author's message tends to be similar in all of his works. His call for action in the Christian community and the identification of the US as a true mission field are on point in my opinion. I this not the only book that I have read by this author and would read others given the opportunity
In all actuality I don't remember what this book says. But I give it five stars almost nostalgically because it was a source of hope and truth in the midst of the harsh realities of my Jr. High years.
Amazing book! If this book doesn't light a fire under you, nothing will! As with all of Dr Brown's books, very challenging, informative and inspiring. More than that, a call to action.
