Love triumphs in this uplifting romance, part of the Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series:
Book 1: Secrets of a Bad Reputation Book 2: Wrong Brother, Right Kiss Book 3: Lost and Found Heir Book 4: The Secret Heir Returns
Joss Wood loves books and travelling— especially to the wild places of Southern Africa and, well, anywhere.
She’s a wife, a mom to two teenagers, and is bossed around by two cats and a Great Dane X the size of a baby cow. After a career in local economic development, she now writes full time.
Secrets of a Bad Reputation by Joss Wood is the first in the Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series from Harlequin Desire. Kinga Ryder-White is tasked with organizing the Ryder International Ball, an even grander event this year, under the watchful eye of her demanding grandfather, the notoriously eccentric Callum Ryder-White. He’s decided that bad-boy performer Griff O’Hare is the perfect headliner for their celebration.
Joss Wood’s storytelling is page-turning, and her characters are warm and lovely, coming to reveal their softer selves to each other…. A terrific read and start to this series!
I have enjoyed this book from start to finish. Just imagine this: a rock star with a HUGE bad boy reputation, a PR (not his) in charge of her family company’s benefit gala of the year, a VERY old-school, misogynistic, controlling patriarch—demanding his son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughters to undergo DNA tests to delve into the family’s past—and lots of secrets not only from the main characters, but from the Ryder-Whites. All this madness in only 218 pages!
Kinga (I LOVE this name!) Ryder-White is the PR in charge of the benefit gala that will celebrate the centenary of the event, and her grandfather has ordered the headliner has to be Griff O’Hare, the infamous bad boy of rock’n’roll. That worries Kinga because Griff's scandalous reputation precedes him. But, as she works with Griff, Kinga realizes that he’s not as bad as the press says. That, and the attraction they feel for each other leads them to have an affair. Will this romance have a future?
This first installment in Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series brings many elements; topics such as mental health and bullying are presented in a delicate way. In addition, the book has some secondary characters that I found curious. It should be noted that the writing is very interesting; the fact that Kinga’s parents’ point of view is shown in the plot was something that caught my attention and I suppose we will see more of it in the rest of the series.
A book that has pleasantly surprised me, I can’t wait to see how this series continues. The only thing? No epilogue and a little loose end that kept me wondering what happened there.
Kinga works for the family business and has been tasked with ensuring the annual gala is bigger and better than eve. The last thing she needs is the interference of her grandfather who is determined that Griff will provide the music for the event despite the reputation she wants nowhere near the event.
Griff is a country music star who is accustomed to making headlines and not in a good way. From the moment that he meets Kinga the sparks fly but as they find themselves working together they both find out that the images they portray are very different from the people they are.
Hot chemistry, secrets and characters who draw you in. I enjoyed seeing their relationship unfold and look forward to the other secrets that will be revealed as this series continues with stories about the other characters.
I’ve just finished reading SECRETS OF A BAD REPUTATION by @josswoodbooks and it’s fabulous. The first in Joss’s new Miniseries: Dynasties: DNA Dilemma. Kinga Ryder-White and Griff O’Hare are two peas in a pod when it comes to protecting the ones they love. Both have secrets and trust issues that mean they can’t be together. Or does it? Kinga soon realises that underneath that bad boy exterior lies a gentle man who is perhaps not the hell raising musician he’s cultivated a reputation for. Kinga has her own secrets and deeply rooted trust issues after a particularly devastating tragedy that she blames herself for. This first book is a firecracker to start the series off and I loved watching Griff and Kinga grow and change as we progressed. The large family dynamics intrigued me and I loved the beginnings of the secondary stories with so much more to come. I definitely recommend this one. #amreadingromance #millsandboondesire #harlequindesire #millsandboon
The Ryder-Whites are all about the drama! Callum, patriarch of the clan and resident bully is always going to get what he wants no matter who he steps on in the process, including family. When he tells granddaughter Kinga he wants bad boy Griff O'Hare to perform at their landmark gala fundraiser that she's in charge of she nearly blows a gasket. Upon meeting said bad boy she realizes very quickly he makes her timbers shiver and that's not good. Their professional relationship quickly turns personal when she experiences a difficult moment and he is the only person she can call. Both Griff and Kinga are fighting personal battles that would make most people cringe, but these two find solace and an ease in being completely honest with each other. The simple things are often the biggest gestures, and I loved the simplicity of the relationship these two built. It's not over, the Ryder-Whites have some DNA skeletons waiting to be revealed, and I think I may know who the missing family member is.

This is the story of Kinga (PR Director in multi-national and old money family business) and Griff (rock star bad boy, who has somewhat dropped out of circulation). The narrative of this book is delivered via Griff’s comeback at the annual business ball being managed by Kinga. The romantic tension and hurdles for resolution are delivered by her unwillingness to trust and his hidden persona (underneath the bad reputation). Not to give away any spoilers, but the issue with Griff’s reputation is dealt with quickly and it is a genuinely interesting quirk on the ‘bad boy made good’ trope. There is massive family baggage for him that needs resolving and it is this (alongside Kinga’s trust issues) that get in the way of the HEA.
This is a VERY busy and packed book. Alongside the romantic resolutions there is uptight and controlling old family issues built around DNA tests and what they may reveal for the parents and Grandparent of Kinga. This element of the story does not even get warmed up and will surely progress through later stories (this is the first of a series/duo I think). There is also trauma in Kinga’s past which continues to have character and emotional repercussions. There is a mystery adoption and secret past connected to Kinga’s mother, which is about to get currency via a private investigation and a secret with her father (which we learn nothing of). There is some mystery about a now dead Great Uncle. There is a sister who will presumably form the centre of future books in the series. Many of these threads are introduced and each covered in different depths. – there is much still to discover.
I really enjoyed the book; it was a mini saga. I would love to see this story released from the confines of this imprint – it would have made a great book at double the length as this would have given more space to the various story arcs described above. Moreover… yes there is more… as she often (commendably) does this author uses the narrative arc to highlight serious subjects such as serious and moderate mental health problems, homophobia, the power of the press and bullying.
I think you know what you are getting when you read this imprint, so for me there was no problem with the book. Other readers may find it frustrating that some storylines and themes could not receive more attention and space. I did not find it frustrating; it just makes me look forward to other books in the series/duo (I do not know what is planned). It does mean though that whilst Kinga and Griff were interesting and believable characters with equal billing (the book is delivered from both of their POV), I did not fall heavily for them emotionally.
There were a few errors/editing issues with the book, for example 6 foot 4 inches tall was described as 4 inches more than 5 foot 9 inches tall and several weeks after Christmas, Valentine’s Day was still 6 weeks away. They were not littered through the whole book, but it would be nice to not see these.
This is a modern take on the rich and famous genre, with characters you can root for and a whole cast of characters and issues to give colour. It is a rollercoaster of a read, which some will find unsatisfying, and others will find exuberant. I was in the latter camp.
Oh and if there are later books please, please may Callum (Grandfather) get his comeuppance and may it be delivered by Pen in dramatic style!
I received an advance copy of this book from the author, in return for an honest review.
Secrets of a Bad Reputation begins the Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series with a hero I fell in love with almost immediately, and a leading lady who is all business and a lot mistrustfulness of this bad boy singer who her grandfather has demanded perform for the foundation’s annual gala. Neither was exactly what they appeared to be on the surface and discovering their real personalities was a huge part of my enjoyment of this story. And, well, the series-long mystery hints that we get here pretty much guaranteed that I’ll be following this one until the final book because the possibilities are fascinating.
Griff is making a comeback, restarting a career that he walked away from by performing at a super fancy gala. He definitely has a reputation as a bad boy personified… but is he, really? I loved Griff for more than the obvious he’s sexy, handsome, charming reasons. No, I loved him for the man he proved himself to be beneath that reputation of his. It’s something that I, the reader, and Kinga his lady will discover as their story unfolds. At first, we know more details than Kinga does which makes her dismissal of Griff harder to bear but does add additional tension to the situation this couple finds themselves in. And no, I’m not going to give those intimate details here and spoil the story for you. I’ll simply say that Griff is an amazing, loving man and the woman he’s falling for is going to be blessed with the love of this man… eventually.
I liked Kinga for several reasons, even if she does come off as an uptight control freak at times. Kinga is in charge of the annual gala, something that is huge in her family. Watching over her shoulder is the power-hungry patriarch of the family her grandfather who would fit right into the 1800s with his attitude toward women, his bullying tactics, and his tight hold over his entire family. This gala must be perfect, and since her grandfather went over her head to hire Griff she has no choice but to keep a close watch over his actions in order to keep the gala out of the tabloids should he revert back to that famous reputation once again. She’s strong, stubborn, determined and a perfect fit for Griff – but it’s going to take some time and some truths before she sees those possibilities.
The ongoing, underlying mystery of this series will be brought about by Kinga’s grandfather who is obsessed with family, reputation, and being first in every area of life. His “gift” to every member of his family was a DNA kit as he wants to prove that his family is one of the founding families of the area. That “gift” is obviously something that some members of his family do not want to take part in, at all. There are secrets, lots of juicy secrets that we’ll get a glimpse of in this opening story. It’s going to be fascinating to see how the dust falls, and who survives grandfather’s wrath once those secrets are revealed.
Secrets of a Bad Reputation is a well-written, intriguing story full of secrets of both the good and bad kinds, a couple that is both fiery and loving, secondary characters that I want to know more about, and the enticing hints of mystery and possible scandal abound. I had a blast with this opening story and will definitely be keeping track of the Ryder-White family’s adventures into their futures.
Joss Wood's Secrets of a Bad Reputation is a sexy, intense and emotional scorcher sure to get temperatures rising!
Griff O'Hare's bad boy reputation precedes him. A regular in the tabloids, Griff is as well known for his music as he is for his frequent romantic exploits. Having spent years in hiding, Griff is planning a musical comeback and is intent on restoring his reputation. Determined to show the world that there is more to him than a hell-raising playboy, Griff thinks that performing at a prestigious charity ball is just what he needs in order to relaunch himself into the musical stratosphere. Unfortunately, he hadn't counted on Kinga Ryder-White, who is managing the event, who makes it clear from the start that she doesn't want Griff anywhere near her charity ball!
There is a lot riding on this event and Kinga is determined to pull out all the stops to ensure that it goes off without a hitch. Nobody is going to interfere with her charity ball - not even sexy and smoldering Griff O'Hare! Kinga has got a lot on her plate and she doesn't need distraction of any kind. But she soon realises that steering clear of Griff is going to be easier said than done and when giving into temptation proves inevitable, it quickly becomes apparent that one night is nowhere near enough...
Has the ultimate bad boy been tamed? Can Kinga and Griff have any kind of future together? Or is disappointment going to be on the cards for both of them?
Sprinkled with heat, passion and sizzle, Secrets of a Bad Reputation is a fantastic opposite attracts contemporary romance readers will not be able to resist. The chemistry between Griff and Kinga is electric and their steamy love affair will send heart-rates skyrocketing and have readers reaching for a very big glass of water.
An enjoyable and immensely satisfying contemporary romance, Secrets of a Bad Reputation is another must-read by Joss Wood!

What a great start to this new “Dynasties DNA Dilemma Series”. There are family secrets from all. Joss Wood has done an awesome job with her characters and the plot is filled with secrets, mystery, suspenseful, romance, steamy scenes, page turner and the main characters Kinga and Griff have awesome chemistry. Callum Ryder-White is matriarch of the family business and whatever he says goes. Kinga is the granddaughter of Callum and she is in charge of PR and it is time for the annual ball and her grandfather Callum wants bad boy Griff was child star and is now a singer in a band. Griff has taken a back step in his performances and stands out as the bad boy; because he is protecting his twin sister Sian who was also a child star. Kinga’s best friend Jas who was like a sister to killed in a hit and run accident and Kinga is still dealing with the fallout from and Mitch Jas on again off again boyfriend continues to blame Kinga annually on the anniversary of Jas’s death.
I am so loving romances with mystery and mayhem taking center stage. You will definitely not want to miss this 1st book in the series. You will most definitely enjoy the start of this series.

What a way to start the Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series! Secrets of a Bad Reputation pulled me in a held me for the entire book. The Ryder-White family is old money; their patriarch is controlling and not giving up control any time soon. With old families come secrets, and we get some crumbs, but I think the biggest reveal will be in the last book.
Kinga, love this name, she is the granddaughter and is in charge of this year’s ball. A milestone year for the foundation needs to be the gala of the year. Meddling grandfather has micromanaged her job and hired the entertainment. A talented musical bad boy with secrets of his own. Can Kinga get past what the tabloids have written?
As the two work together and begin to trust each other, will they give in to the attraction? Will events of the past keep them at arm’s length?
I like that the author has done a good job weaving several mystery threads through the story and leaving this reader wanting more!
Thank you to the Booksprout and the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Opposites attract in the kick-off to Joss Wood's brand new Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series and it was highly entertaining! SECRETS OF A BAD REPUTATION is fast paced and attention grabbing from start to finish. I enjoyed the characters and though there were a lot of unknowns left up in the air that I hope will flesh out later in the series, I felt satisfied with the story. The biggest thing I felt was lacking was not even getting to see the ball play out, or tie-ups of her problems from the past but maybe that too is coming in the next book. Overall a great kick-off to the series and highly enjoyable.
Griff is a sweetheart and I loved getting to see him redeemed in the world's eyes.
Kinga is self-assured and accomplished and I enjoyed seeing her fall for Griff. I can't wait to learn more about the family secrets.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys family drama mixed into an intense romance.
Secrets of a Bad Reputation by Joss Wood is the first in the Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series. The leading couple, Kinga and Griff, are both great characters with tragic events in their past that kept them from forming close relationships. Their attraction is too strong to be denied however and ultimately, with the help of some of the side characters, they find their happy end. There are several threads of mystery entwined in the story which are so prominent that they overshadow the romantic part and which are not resolved in this book. While I can see the reason for that, I personally am not a fan of loose ends and would have preferred to have kept the mystery and suspense to what's relavent to them.

Wow. This pair has so much baggage getting in their way. I loved our leading couple and I spent most of this book wanting to hug the stuffing out of both of them. I also wanted to deal with all the obstacles in their way like an avenging angel on their behalf. This book is primarily about Kinga and Griff, but there are a couple of mysteries that appear to be going to span more of the series. I’ve already started to fall in love with the younger generation of Ryder-Whites and I can't wait to find out what's going to happen in the rest of the series. I badly want to know the answers to those big mysteries they're dealing with. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book through Booksprout.
*SPOILER* Kinga Ryder-White doesn't like being shoved into the background within the family business but when Grandfather Callum Ryder-White sets his mind to something, EVERYONE obeys. Once Kinga gets to know "bad boy" Griff O'Hare better, she's in for an eye-opening experience. Joss Wood delivers a well written, nicely developed story that makes you want to fall in love with the bad boy and root for a happy ending. This story delivers everything it promises.

This story had a lot going on and I loved everything about this book the characters the family disfunction and the best part the secrets in this story. JW came out with a boom introduction to this new series. The Ryder-White family have a lot of secrets. There are crumbs and snippets in this story and character names that drop that will link up in the next books. Go pick up this book if you haven't already the place to start is with Kinga and Griff O' Hare their story lays the groundwork for the other stories coming moving forward. Nicely done JW can't wait for the next book in the series.
This is indeed a story with a lot of secrets. We get to know Griff and Kinga and their life couldn't be more different. They are both struggling with their own problems that are making their life very difficult. And somehow the chemistry that they feel at the start soon erupt. The story is full of family drama and secrets. both Griff and Kinga are interesting and likable and make a lovely romantic love story. I love Joss Wood's books. This is no exception. Kinga is organizing the big ball for the Ryder-White foundation. She us having no luck finding a performer and her mean old grandfather tells her who it will be. She doesn't want Griff there. He is a bad boy.
You know that saying about assuming?
I loved Griff. He may play a bad boy but he really has a heart of gold. He has been such a protector all his life.
Griff and Kinga spending time together brings them close. They try to break away but they are both in so deep.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. There is a lot going on in this book. It is nice that Griff's true character is revealed and I like how he uses the opportunity to help Kinga who he has fallen in love with. Kinga finds the man she needs in Griff and it is no wonder she gave him her heart. I will be eagerly awaiting for the future books in this series to find out about the DNA tests the Ryder-White family took.
This was my first read from this author and I loved every word of it. The only reason I gave it four stars is because it was written in the third person point of view. Sorry but this is a deal breaker for me. I got pulled into the story, I loved the characters. I will be reading more from this author in the future.

This was a great start to a new series! From the opening prologue you are drawn in and wonder where the mystery of the DNA will lead everyone. Griff and Kinga were true opposites attract personalities, but deep down their values were the same, and you couldn’t help but hope that they would make things work. I’m really looking forward to more books in this series.
Wow! What a start to the Dynasties: DNA Dilemma series. Kinga and Griff's story has so many twists, turns, secrets, drama and their romance. the story is well written and kept me turning pages. I was not putting this book down until I had finished reading. I want to read the next book. I received a copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I didn't like it, the connection between them didn't feel all that strong. The hero never really trusted the heroine and only told her the truth because his sister wanted to reveal all to the world, if she didn't reveal it to world he never would have revealed the truth to heroine. She trusted him with her deepest secrets but he refused to do the same with her. Np.
Wow. I really got sucked into this book quickly. The storyline is filled with so much that you float along until your at such a great ending. The characters are well written and it's easy to feel everything tht Kinga and Griff is going through. Dramatic, full of secrets but love conquers all.
I really enjoyed this story. The things some people will do for family is amazing. Kinga was spot on in her assessment of Griff. They took to each other from the beginning. Griff deserves a happy ever after from the sacrifice he has made. Looking forward to reading more from this author.
This story had so much. It was steamy, romantic, touching, heart-wrenching, mysterious, family-oriented, etc. It had a depth of feeling while mixing in some quite steamy love scenes. There is a mystery around DNA and a few past events. It addressed family relations and friends that could be considered family. It addressed mental illness. I loved this book and cannot wait for the next one in the series. I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Repost of my original review on Amazon.com.
This is book one in The Dynasties : DNA Dilemma Series and it is Kinga and Griff's story and it is a great start to a new series. When Kinga manages the charity ball for her grandfather who is not only demanding but watched everything that she does to make sure it is right which puts pressure on her to make sure everything looks good and goes smoothly. Griff has been asked to headline the charity ball so he decides that this is the perfect chance to restart his musical career after being in seclusion for year's and he is hoping that everything goes well as it has been so long since he was in the limelight. The chemistry between Kinga and Griff is so hot but Kinga is concerned about Griff doing the music for the ball because of his reputation but the closer they get they give in to the chemistry and attraction between them but will it change anything that is happening as they are completely different from each other but in a way perfect together. This book was a great read and a real page turner that I couldn't down as it had great characters and storyline that pulled you in right from the start and I can't wait to read more books in this series.
