What a wild, pulse pounding read!

May be a black-and-white image of one or more people and outdoors

Cas was incredibly brave even in the face of some truly life threatening moments. What I loved about her bravery, was that it was a chosen reaction when she was actually terrified. It was believable as was everything about her character. Her response to Ian had me immediately, wondering what actions she was going to make as the story continued.

Insider

This author does anti-heroes the way I love them! Ian’s possessiveness is shown pretty quickly. Within a short time with Cas he claims her. When you add in the lengths he will go to to protect her, you’ve got one crazy, drool worthy hero.

“For you?” His teeth flash in the bluish light. “Tooth and nail. I’d kill with my bare hands to protect what’s mine.”

Animated GIF

And that alone is enough for me to love this book, but when it also includes so many moments of danger and intrigue, I’m hooked. This started off like a shot and never slowed down. It’s a fast read, the first of three books and ends with a cliffhanger. But it is sooo delicious with lots of steamy goodness to go along with this wonderful hero and heroine.

Fortunately, each book will be released within weeks of each other.

A stark mixture of so many emotions and that simmering heat underneath it all. Hot!! Cannot wait for part 2
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve read and reviewed many of Paul’s books now and while similar in the general theme, she always finds a way to make them unique and stand out.
I think Ian is one of my favorite characters of hers and I am so frustrated that this is a series! I am having difficulty waiting for the next two books.
The story is steamy and lusty. It is full of that hot erotic emotion that is so difficult to capture in a story.
He is not a good character in that he is a criminal. This is a story of crime, triggers, intimidation, kidnapping, and other dark factors.
But it’s also a story of care, concern, lust, protection, and more as we build the story. It’s a complex mixture of deep emotions and simmering heat underneath it all.
Paul’s continually manages to blow me away with her unique stories and inventive character development. Like I said, this is part one of a three-part story but I know it’s going to be so worth the wait.
My Review
We are introduced to Ian Hart who along with his brother Leon and a third male make up the phantom gang notorious thief’s that have evaded the authorities for years.
When Ian whilst doing a job sees civilian Cas he is instantly besotted with her so taking a risk he orchestrates it so they very unconventionally get to meet and get better acquainted.
But his presence in her life puts Cas in the crosshairs of the police and her unwillingness to cooperate could see her being labelled as an accomplice.
Stuck between a rock and a hard place Cas will need to decide just who to trust the man that equally repels and entices her she fears him as much as she wants him or the police who want to use her to achieve their own ends.
Neither option is what she wants and Whatever choice she makes she doesn’t win.
So this one was more dark suspense rather than romance, Ian is a bloody sweetie a deadly controlling and dangerous one but lovely all the same well if you disregard the gun oh and the threats and that he’s wanted by the police.
He is literally obsessed with Cas and she as much as she is intrigued and turned on by him is also equally scared of him as well.
Cas knows exactly what he’s capable of she’s under no illusions and realises she’s playing with fire.
This is the first book in a trilogy with all of them releasing this year.
Though part of an interconnected series dealing with siblings within the same family this trilogy can be read as a stand-alone but I do recommend picking up the other books in this series as they really are good reading. This one I thought had a slightly lighter flavour than the others. More romantic suspense than dark romance.
I really enjoyed this and can’t wait to find out where this goes next.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Stolen Lust.
4.75* and NO spoilers
I’ve been a huge fan of Ms Paul’s work since I picked up Dubious from NetGallley back in 2017.
That said this is the first book in a trilogy and I knew going in it was a cliffhanger. So last night I put my toes in the water. I thought I’d read the first chapter just to give me a taste.
Now I’d purposely avoided all reviews since and I’m at a loss as to why. I’ve noticed in the past a lot of arc readers will spoil the book for others with their reviews.
So I tentatively started reading last night. It’s now afternoon the following day and I’m struggling on a couple of hours sleep. I know, I know I’ll never learn.
Anyway I digress.
I loved this book and once I started I couldn’t put it down. My weakness is strong, intelligent preferably tattooed ruggedly handsome men. Men who want a woman so much they’ll risk everything.
In this book Ian Hart is that man. He’s dangerous but Cas is drawn to him like a moth to a flame. The otherwise meticulous Ian makes mistakes. Things he would never have done in the past but he can’t help himself he’s drawn to Cas.
“If you were mine, I’d never have left you.”
“For you?” His teeth flash in the bluish light. “Tooth and nail. I’d kill with my bare hands to protect what’s mine.”
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by the author. This review as always is my honest opinion.
Charmaine Pauls’ fans! You totally need this in your TBR! This is not a drill! Awesome hotness and heart-gripping romance ahead!
My Review:
“If you were mine, I’d never have left you.”
Ian Hart is a prodigious thief. For sixteen years he and his gang have successfully evaded authorities by being precise, by being disciplined. Until ... the night Ian saw Cassandra Joubert. Now, his lust for Cas will upend her life, wreak havoc on his focus, and drive a rift through his team. Ian will break all his rules for just one more night with his pretty captive …
“A first kiss tells everything. It tells a woman if a man is going to f*** her or make love to her. It tells her how a man is going to treat her for the rest of her life. It tells if he wants her to shut the door on her way out or if he wants to grow old with her.”
Charmaine Pauls seduces us once again with a stunning paragon of male lust and virility in Ian. She pairs him with yet another of her divinely strong and admirable heroines in Cas. It figures Ian couldn’t just fall for a pretty face. Cas is brave and sassy and struggling in all the ways that make Ian want to stay and stake his claim on her. The preciousness of their ephemeral encounter magnifies their desire. Beautifully written. Hauntingly memorable. Relentlessly seductive. Picking up a new Charmaine book is like taking an immersive journey into love. It never disappoints!
“The man who’s perfect for me is unobtainable. Wrong. On the run. It hurts to the core of my being.”
Wait a Minute......let me catch my breath a bit!!!
Like a Runaway burning train that crashes and demolishes everything in its path, this is an unstoppable, unbrakable story bursting with raw passion and volatile encounters of all kinds. Charmaine has woven a tight knit story, it's taut like a guitar string. It makes music with panting breaths and slapping flesh and then in the next moment flips she it around with gun shots and bike chases.
description
We met Zoe & Damien in Diamonds are Forever Box Set. Now we meet their eldest -Ian Hart who is leader of the Phantom Gang , thieves and robbers who strike Sun City where Cassandra Joubert just happens to be on a date with Mint.
A close encounter on a dark & lonely road triggers a domino effect of precariously deadly proportions. Cas's life just ends. She loses her job, her apartment, she's penniless and on the street.
And all because she happened to be a kidnapping victim.
description
But make no mistake, her heart is captured and her body throbs with pleasure for Ian WILLINGLY!!
Their encounter in the cabin is so hot, it threatens to burn the pages and word explode like molten lava.
description
Ian possesses lethal beauty and brawn mix, his mind razor sharp but his heart is now in Cas's hands. This Lean, Mean, Tough machine takes savagely but protects tenderly.
description
I won't tell you another word of it, but leave you with a warning...Do Not Start It In The Evening or you'll be up all night till your eyes burn but hands won't keep the kindle down.
It's THAT Engrossing, engaging and captivating.
I’m a bit stumped on how to describe this story.
A woman leaving a crappy date gets car-jacked by a sexy, on-the-run-criminal who spotted her on her crappy date. He makes her drive to a small get-away cabin in the middle of nowhere and they have amazingly steamy relations on a table. Because he’s just too hunky for his own good and her past partners could never keep up with her sex drive. I can’t make this stuff up.
I actually really liked Ian’s character. He’s a criminal genius but also oddly sensitive and caring to Cas. It’s a cat and mouse game between the two of them for the rest of the book. I finished it at 3 am and promptly downloaded the next in the series. I’m blaming lack of sleep for that decision.
Charmaine Pauls never fails to entertain! Stolen Lust is an action-packed and steamy start to Beauty in the Stolen trilogy, and I am intrigued.
I loved the premise of this story- a down on her luck, sassy and scrappy Cas on a miserable date finds herself the accidental hostage in a late night carjacking by a notorious thief and mysterious rugged heart throb Ian that leads to a terrifying and erotic encounter. Only was it an accident? Cas returns to her life physically unscathed, but their unexpected tryst has a lingering impact on her life, and not only because she can’t forget the alluring Ian, who can’t seem to forget her either.
Charmaine stories are always so action packed and steamy- and Stolen Lust has that in spades. The action unfolds quickly, which makes this a fast and engaging read. The romance is more of a instalust - intense and passionate but not yet fully emotionally developed. We don’t really know our characters just yet- but I find both of them compelling in their own way. Cas seems to have so much fortitude and resilience stemming from a background with some challenges, and I love her curiosity as a character. She does fall a bit into the trap of doing stupid/irrational things despite seemingly being clever, and a few actions in particular bugged me- BUT, I think when we know her better we’ll understand her motives more. Ian is a classic CP hero- a possessive alpha steamroller with a swoony flair. He’s protective, seductive, and has my favorite CP trait- he’s irrationally obsessive over our heroine. He’s a bit softer than some of the men before- more tender and sweet early on, which I dug. The sexy times are great- and the physical chemistry is there, but we don’t build much beyond that YET- again, I’m hoping we’ll dig more into these characters’ quick need for each other as we build more emotional chemistry in future books.
Charmaine toys with us a bit at the ending- switching gears several times to keep us on our toes. I’m definitely fascinated by this pairing and the larger crime ecosystem Ian is part of- and after such an action packed and high-octane opener, I’m looking forward to digging more into these characters!
Interesting start to a new trilogy.
A bit of a twist on the captive heroine troupe as the Hero although not a good guy he seems to genuinely care about the heroine.
Although he takes away her freedom at times, he isn't cruel, sadistic.
The Australian/ South Africa features.
Ends on a cliffhanger.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Heroine is on a date at the start, they shared a meal, she's not interested in anything else with him at all, one date was enough.
The Hero is completely taken with the heroine.
They both say it's been a while since they were with anyone else.
After he meets the heroine, the Hero turns down an offer from another woman.
This book stole my heart! 5 stars
I was intrigued at the beginning of this book and wondering where this story would go. It took me on wild ride of attraction, emotions and turns that stole my heart! Right away, I loved Ian and wanted to know everything about him. Attraction, passion and need quickly bloomed between Ian and Cassandra (or Cas as she liked to be called), and it was hot! They had “this once-in-a-lifetime connection,” and I felt it through the pages. Cas’s feelings for Ian were fear mixed with excitement, but mine was just excitement at the unfolding story! Ian’s thoughts about Cas made me swoon! My heart hurt for both of them and their circumstances. Later, this book took some turns I was not expecting that had me riveted to the pages. Then with that cliffhanger ending, I am left anxiously waiting for book 2! I highly recommend this book!
Cas totally lacks any self-preservation, like, she seriously has no survival instinct at all. It's really puzzling how obsessed Ian is with her. I really don't get it.
As the title suggests, what happened between these two was all about lust and nothing more. They didn't make sense to me, but whatever.
Anyway, I'm still going to check out the other books to see if things get better or if it just turns into a total mess.
Book info:
- Insta-lust
- Fast burn
- No cheating
- No V
- OM/OW, separation
- Cliffy
Notes:
- He's a fugitive who's obsessed with her. He can't go to her all the time hence the separations.
- OM. She was on a date with someone when he saw her for the first time and decided she's different
- OW. Not really, but when they got separated and he flew to a different country, a woman tried to seduce him but he shut her down.
Let me just say I like to think of myself as one of Charmaine Pauls biggest fans. I have fallen in love with all of her work so far. Which is why I signed up to be an ARC reader a while ago.
I had to sit on this book a few days after finishing it. It was really underwhelming to be honest. And I hate giving three stars on an ARC that I was generously given. But this book just fell really flat. I struggled with that nearly nonexistent build up between the characters. It was instant love instant attraction. Ian literally stole Cas and zoomed her away.
Yeah because he is a nice captor and calls her “prettier than a doll”.. Cas is enamoured instantly.
“My insides freeze over a while my skin burns up. He disarmed me with a touch, possesses me with dominance, and terrifies me with tenderness.”
He lets her go eventually. And time passes on only for them to get reacquainted with each other and the cops are on both of their tails because Cas lies and won’t give them any information on who took her and some other drama that I don’t want to spoil.
Ian needs to make a choice to either flee and get away before he gets caught or to grab Cas and save her before she gets in deeper trouble with the police. And in doing so, he’s putting himself in the spotlight.
“If I walk through that door, there’s no way I can ever let her go again. The risks are too big. She’s a roadmap to me now and a weapon in the wrong hands. Her testimony will destroy what Leon and I have built. By my own doing, I tied her to me. Because of the choices I made, she’s got none left. The moment is enormous.”
The book picked up in the last few chapters. That is when I started getting interested in the story. As for now, the series seems to be a bit predictable. But I will absolutely pick up the second book to know what’s going on. It does leave off on a cliffhanger.
Charmaine Pauls has a new trilogy in the Diamond Magnate world,and i was lucky enough to get the ARC of the first book,Stolen Lust.
I needed a minute to calm down from this rollercoaster ride before i could manage an honest review,but here it is.
Cas may have thought she was on the worst date of her life,but it was about to get worse....
On their way home,they were car-jacked,and she was forced to drive to a remote cabin.
Her kidnapper was a mix of terrifying and attractive,and she didn’t know what to do with the signals her body sent him.
Ian didn’t have that problem,and he showed her exactly what to do,even if it was only for that one night.....
Letting her go after that proved to be more difficult than he expected,and he decided to come back for one more.
The consequences of that decision uproot Cas’ life even further and she’s in big trouble.
This first part left me with a killer cliffhanger,and i know i need more!
I love Cas,she may have a tough life,but she tries to make the most of it.
When Ian swept her off her feet like that,it made her think.
About him,and why he brings out those feelings in her,in spite of the kind of man he obviously is.
Ian may be a criminal,but i love how he treats Cas with all the care he has in him.
He even does his research into her heart condition to make sure she’s ok.
The events at the end,though?
They have me worried what else can go wrong!
Cas had a bad first date. it was terrible.
But what can you do – it is just one night and then things will get back to normal… right?....
Ah… wrong
Because Cas was in the wrong place and at the wrong time….
being noticed by a notorious criminal – one pretty doll may find herself in a roller coaster where she may lose her job, her freedom and maybe her life
Cas is really something else
She is struggling in so many aspects in her life and still she is strong, stubborn and
Resourceful and – no wonder Ian fell for her – no wonder he did things that were uncharacteristic for him – no wonder he put everything in jeopardy
Because once you meet this diamond – this doll
You never want to let her go
“A first kiss tells everything. It tells a woman if a man is going to f*** her or make love to her. It tells her how a man is going to treat her for the rest of her life. It tells if he wants her to shut the door on her way out or if he wants to grow old with her.”
Ian is a wanted mysterious man, leader of a phantom gang that has fans
They've been hunted for 15 years and no one has a clue as to who they are
Until one night and one person that makes him change his plans and put everything at risk
He is possessive and jealous and he will stop at nothing
He must have her
For me Stolen lust started slower than other books I've read by CF; it took some time until I was fully invested in the story
Charmaine was letting us get to know Ian's thinking and the length he will take
She was letting us understand how strong Cas is
And in her unique way – she is making us feel the vibe of thae places the story takes place in – as if you are actually there!
Stolen Lust is the first book in the Beauty in the Stolen trilogy
The book ends with a cliffhanger and I'm breathless till I read what happens next in Stolen Life
*Ian is the elder brother of Damian from 'Beauty in the broken' and of Zoe from 'the Diamond trilogy' but this trilogy can be read separately and as a standalone trilogy, although I highly recommend reading them – you will fall in love – that's a promise!)
Reread: I liked it better the second time around! This never happens to me lol. Usually on rereads, I like a book less than I did the first time. So good!!
I know I complained in my first review about how I wish the romance had been developed more. The romance is developed enough for the circumstances and how this is the first book of 3...read it all together like I am in a thick paperback book, and it stands better as a trilogy than by itself for romance.
I loved how Ian saw Cas in the middle of his heist and was just like I gotta have her, and he got shot for her, said it was worth it, and he kept on coming back for more, though he was risking his own skin.
4.25 stars!
***
I was so excited to read this book I literally bought the paperback copy. I finished it today, or yesterday (idk), on my flight to Spain.
Charmaine Pauls is one of my favorite authors, so I really wanted to read this one. I love the unique settings of her books (South Africa usually), the heroes, the drama, the plot, and the writing style. I didn't realize until someone else's review how clean and crisp her writing is. Things just flow well, and you can tell she can write.
I didn't find the blurb super descriptive of the book or telling, so here's a short summary: On a bad first date, Cassandra, aka Cas, meets Ian when he kidnaps her during a heist. They sleep together and the next day, Ian lets her go, but the kidnapping has disastrous consequences on Cas's life. She's fired and practically evicted. Despite all this, Ian still can't stay away...
I think I liked most of the other Diamond Magnate books better, because of the setting(s) and the whole girl rummaging around in the rich guy's mansion--which we'll get in the next book I believe. Also, Ian's a notorious criminal...that's going to be hard to reconcile being w someone like that, though Maxime in the Diamonds Are Forever Trilogy was part of the mafia. But it just feels different. Moreover, I was wondering to myself who Ian was, was he Zoe's brother? He is, but I don't remember any mention of him in the other books, so I feel like maybe he was just created for this trilogy LOL idk...And also his brother Leon?
That first scene where Ian and Cas meet and the sexual tension was soo good...chef's kiss. I loved how Charmaine described how his brown eyes would smolder...never did I think brown eyes could be sexy.
My only complaint was that the relationship wasn't developed enough for my taste. They barely knew each other, just know each other well sexually, but I guess (and hope) that that will come in the next two books. To be honest, I don't think this needs to be a trilogy. It just seems to be a ploy to make more money; I think a duet would be fine but oh well.
I want to read the next two books, but I'd rather read the paperback books. Reading on Kindle sometimes really annoys me because I feel that it's harder for me to imagine the story...it feels more like just writing on a blank piece of paper. I got spoiled with reading all these paperback and hardcover library books. But buying the next two paperback books would be at least $28 if you add shipping...so idk guys 😌😌
Anyway, Charmaine Pauls is so underrated!!! I would recommend some of her other books to start off though, especially the Loan Shark duet and "Diamonds in the Rough".
Note: This review is for this one and the next one...
Ok, the first book was awesome. I couldnt put it down and i was on the edge of my seat the entire way through. Which, if you've seen my reviews this year, is a HUGE accomplishment. I've been DNF'ing books left and right but this one was a breath of fresh air.
The characters were developed; the hero swoon-worthy, the heroine badass. The location and plot was unique and original. The sex scenes, on FIRE. I wish I came across more books like this that has a perfect storm of smut and substance.
With that being said... I lost interest in the second book. For whatever reason, their romance lost the momentum and high-stakes quality it had in the first book. I was also getting frustrated with both of the MC's decisions and thought processes. So for these reasons, I'm calling it quits on this series and moving on.
First book: absolute banger
Second book: not my cuppa
Safety: (from book 1- mid way through book 2)
No cheating, no other people after meeting, no OW/OM drama
Heroine not a virgin
Hero not a manwhore.
Some separation
Kidnapping and some violence
I enjoyed this one on a base level, but it really started getting good towards the end. It feels weird reading this already having read about Ian's siblings, and already knowing how his and Cas's story ends (no but I love Ian)- But I'm invested in this family and am excited to see how they get to their ending point.
I was kind of skeptical at the beginning of the book because of how impractical the story felt, but I'm really interested to see where it goes.
Well this was a fantastic start to a new trilogy! It grabs you right at the beginning and before you know it, you've read the whole darn book in one sitting!
Ian was fascinating to me. He's that dark, intense guy who you would never want to mess with, and that goes for the heroine as well, and yet you know he would protect her with his life. His obsession with her, the life he leads, the things he does, it was all very enthralling. It's the best of both worlds when you like a little bit of darkness to your story.
Cas (Casandra) was another appealing part to the story. I rarely like the heroine as much as the hero but this time Cas was just as interesting. She's a very beautiful woman who has not used that beauty to further herself. She on the verge of homelessness when things go bad very quickly. And yet, I really liked her spirit. She had self respect and integrety. While she may not agree to the things Ian does, you can tell she has just enough wildness in her that she can handle him and what may come.
I loved this first book and I'm excited to read the rest.
Honestly.... I absolutely 💖LOVED💖 this book! Started reading... and I could not put it down!! This book had everything; a great, fascinating storyline, very likable main characters, interesting side characters... and a beautiful (for a change, a non-US) setting. Usually, I am always critical of 'believability'. Obviously this book is fiction, but at no point I thought the story was very unrealistic or too far-fetched. 😊 This book read as if watching a romantic action movie (only better!)... and I really liked everything about it. 😍
Only 1 flaw: the open ending 😉 but I knew that before I started reading. I desperately want (need!) to know how Ian's and Cas's story continues!! Needless to say I can hardly wait until the next book is available!
Thank you for the ARC, Charmaine Pauls 🥰.... and please hurry! 😁
description
"First kisses, no matter where or how they're given, are sacred. A first kiss tells everything. It tells a woman if a man is going to fuck her or make love to her. It tells her how a man is going to treat her for the rest of her life."
Charmaine Pauls is one of my favorite authors, the best in dark romance 🖤
I have fallen in love with all of her work - Loan Shark Duet, Beauty in the broken, Diamonds are forever trilogy...
Stolen Lust is perfect start of a new series. It's a first book in the trilogy.
This book is fire from start 🔥
Cassandra Joubert is headstrong, sassy, independent, passionate and admirable woman, and she is my favorite female character so far 😍
Ian Hart is criminal and leader of Phantom gang. Dangerous, mysterious, charismatic, possessive 🔥
One night will change their lives. The connection between them is fast and hot.
"He disarms me with a touch, possesses me with dominance, and terrifies me with tenderness."
Dual POV and this story is so far the lightest in Diamond Magnate series. Ends with a cliffhanger, but the sequels come very quickly.
Beauty in the Stolen series must be read in order:
This is the first book in the Beauty in the Stolen trilogy and talk about a page turner. This book will hook you from the beginning and keep your interest until the last page. The world of Ian Hart is fast paced and full of danger. Every time I read a Charmaine Paul's book I think they can't get any better. Wow, how wrong I'm. This is an incredible book with amazing characters and an engaging story line. I read an arc via the author and voluntarily chose to write a review.
***3.5 stars***
Stolen Lust by Charmaine Pauls was a dangerous ride full of action, suspense and passion. It was an interesting beginning to the trilogy. It was a different kind of story set in unique circumstances and locations.
Cas is kidnapped by Ian, the most notorious criminal and leader of Phantom gang in one fateful night. He leaves her at her home but not before they had an explosive night together. Now her life is in shambles and Ian refuses to leave her alone because he wants to protect her. Even though he put her in the danger itself.
This story is high on action and suspense. My mind was getting switched to thriller mode. Means it was too occupied with the plot and the probable holes in it. That definitely dampened my mood and enthusiasm. Second, I couldn't understand the heroine's actions half the time. She seems like a very intelligent and smart and independent and fierce woman. I love that. But she was taking some really questionable decisions and putting herself in danger. Ian is definitely a great antihero. He has a dark life and his obsession regarding Cas is toxic. But he is oddly caring and soft in his own way. He is dangerous. Volatile. Arrogant. Deviant. His protectiveness and possessiveness is extreme and I love it. Their physical chemistry is amazing. Definitely expect some sinfully hot sex scenes. But other than that, they don't have much going on. I understand it's just the first book and we will see a lot happening in next books. Beyond the passion they don't understand. This story was a cat and mouse game and my mind is conjuring up endless possibilities. It was set in South Africa and exotic locations of Zimbabwe. And I enjoyed it.
Stolen Lust by Charmaine Pauls was a sexy and adrenaline filled romance. The chase has just begun.
I reviewed an early copy voluntarily
In some parts it was intriguing but not quite the romance for me. Can see why it's so high rated though, just not my cup of tea
If you crave the darkness…
…then this book might be a bit of a let-down, because as far as darkness goes, this story is so far the lightest in Charmaine Pauls Diamond Magnate cycle. Also, talking of triggers, one could maybe with some imagination make an argument for "dubious consent" and a touch of "Stockholm syndrome", but that’s it. The sex is consensual, if you don’t consider the situation (kidnapping) as incompatible with the exercise of free will (and the giving of consent).
I admit that in dark romance "dubious consent" is one of my favorite kinks and in the past Charmaine Pauls has skillfully walked the tightrope between force and desire, violence and passion. Unfortunately I felt that in Stolen Lust this characteristic trope was a bit watered down or muted. I don’t know whether it is due to outside pressures from publishing companies or reader reactions, but I have the impression that some of my favorite dark romance authors are trying to go more mainstream. On the one hand I understand that they might want to try to appeal to a larger audience, but me, I love the darker, grittier stories with anti-heroes that are relentless and unapologetically take what they want. I like to read lighter books, too, but when I pick up a book labeled "dark", then I want the story to rip out my soul and I want to love-hate (or hate-love) the anti-hero. I want him to exert his dominance over the heroine (even or better yet, especially if she fights back), before he is brought low by his feelings for her, and this book delivers only partly on those expectations.
Although I tried to go light on the details, what follows might be a bit spoilery. It lays out how Beauty in the Stolen is tied in with the other books in the cycle and also describes the content of the novel in broad strokes; because of the nature of the plot that is difficult to do without disclosing some crucial elements, so you have been warned!
So, why do I still give this book 4 stars, despite it’s lack of darkness? Because, even though I expected something different, I really liked the hero (despite being a thief and abducting the heroine, he is just too nice not to like) and the fact that he was so in control of himself and that he did not try to physically overpower the heroine. Instead he threw down a challenge that Cas was unable to resist. I also liked the way he made himself vulnerable by letting her see his desire and giving her the choice (sort of). But when push comes to shove, he is finished playing the considerate lover and will do anything to get his woman, even kidnap her again…
Holy smokes, what a ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Omg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me tell you the best thing about discovering new authors, you find interesting and heart pulling stories. Stories that make you feel every single word beating you in heart and making it believe it. Stories that are full of characters you sometimes look at yourself and say to yourself, why do I love you. You question every action. You even question your insanity. Stolen Lust absolutely hooked me. I felt like a fish in the water hooked and pulled into such exhilarating book. Charmaine Pauls, you are one wicked woman. Fast paced. Exciting. Dangerous. Stolen Lust is an intense dark romance with an edge of your seat storyline with a unique voice, written by Charmaine Pauls that told such a gripping and intriguing tale. Charmaine Pauls voice is undeniable rich and soaks you with a gritty and seductive romance.
I came across a beautiful edit on Instagram about Stolen Lust and in my heart, I knew I had to read this book. The best decision I have ever made as a reader. Not only is Stolen Lust a thrilling dark romance, Stolen Lust is set in such a unique place, South Africa, both diverse and adds such a different dimension to the story. I am so impressed as a reader.
We meet Ian and Cas in Stolen Lust, who manages to take me deep into their passionate, steamy and intense chemistry. Ian is a thief who steals Cas for the night but you are swept deep into their heart burning and electrifying charm as a couple. My gosh, they were engrossing. My gosh, they were hot. Omg!!!!!!!!!!! Two words: Cabin scene!!!!!!!!!! That's all I will say. Hahaha.
Honestly, READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lussuria Rubata è il primo libro della trilogia che riguarda la tormentata storia di Ian Hart e Cassandra/Cas. E devo dire che inizia col botto, la loro storia mi ha coinvolta e intrigata da subito, Ian e Cas, sono due personaggi di forte impatto. Complessi, coraggiosi, leali, carismatici, e condividono una connessione davvero speciale che và aldilà della lussuria.
Lo stile di Charmaine Pauls, è sempre ammaliante, seduttivo, che cattura l'attenzione per tutta la lettura.
Le sue ambientazioni sono sempre originali e affascinanti.
Nonostante sia solo il primo volume, la trama è già bella ricca di: passione, pericolo, azione, fughe mozzafiato e colpi di scena.
E ovviamente finisce con un cliffhanger, ma per fortuna c'è già il seguito.
L'unica nota negativa purtroppo, sono i refusi e qualche parola tradotta male.
Stolen Lust is the first book in the Beauty in the Stolen trilogy by Charmaine Pauls and it was unexpected and brilliant. I went in without any expectations and it blew my mind and heart. I fell for the infamous criminal, thief, and kidnapper: Ian Hart. This complex, charismatic, and dangerous character captivated me from start to finish. I can't talk about Ian without mentioning Cassandra Joubert, also known as Cas. Like most of Pauls' past heroines, Cas is vulnerable, headstrong, independent, and passionate. She is Ian's perfect match but their relationship was always doomed from the start. How can love blossom in a relationship that is built on fear and danger? As always, the author excels at this trope and will have you rooting for Cas and Ian—despite the circumstances.
"She was was everything I've ever considered beautiful, too good to be true. I wanted her, all of her, to touch and smell and taste every inch of her skin."
The story begins with Cas on a date gone horribly wrong and made much worse when she is kidnapped and held hostage by a mysterious stranger. The one night she spends with Ian Hart will change her life irrevocably. Cas and Ian's relationship is incredibly complicated but full of passion and lust. Ian is obsessed with Cas and she can't help but return her attraction. Both characters had amazing chemistry with each other and the love scenes were sensual and erotic. The dual perspective by Ian and Cas was excellent at drawing out the tension, angst, longing, and inner turmoil between the two.
"The blackness of my life isn't a color. It's just a canvas for the color she makes as she gives me her tongue and kisses me back."
In the end, I absolutely can't wait to read Stolen Life because the book ends with an intense and dramatic cliffhanger that will change the course of the story as well as the paths of its characters. Zoe and Damian were referenced in this book and I hope there will be a reunion of the siblings by the end of this trilogy. We're also introduced to Leon Hart who I'm sure will get his own spinoff later on. Fans of Charmaine Paul will absolutely LOVE this book because the story has a similar formula to her past series including Dubious Consent and Diamonds are Forever. If you love dark romance with a complex, charming, and charismatic anti-hero who loves passionately and will never let the heroine leave him, then this is the book for you!
