Bluerock #3

Doll at Heart

Rate this book
When the town’s asleep, he comes out to play.

Emilia
My fresh start came at a sickening price.
There’s no use in dwelling. I paid it. It’s done. So here I am, learning to live for the very first time.
I want to experience everything I missed. I want to taste it all.
But nothing’s been able to hit my tongue like the gruff bartender next-door.
Tommy’s a devil with blue eyes. I can't resist.
He plays with me in the dark and scares my nightmares away.
But it's a dangerous game, and the closer I let this man get to me, the greater the chances of him ripping my scars wide open and finding out who I really am.

Tommy
The second I spotted her on the fire escape, I was hooked.
Emilia’s like no woman I've ever met. A free spirit, dancing on the roof in the early hours of the morning.
But this girl has secrets. Heavy ones that keep her up at night.
Not that I judge. Hell, I've got a stack of damage all of my own and no one does trouble like Tommy Anderson.
My reputation is growing darker by the day, and getting involved with the hot ballerina next-door won't do either of us any favors.
But my doll doesn't want the days. She’s content to have me at night. Friends with benefits, she says.
I'd be a madman to turn down an offer like that.

Emilia has a dark past, but she’s determined to enjoy her fresh start and put it all behind her. Out from underneath her father’s thumb, Emilia wants to enjoy everything that life has to offer. When she meets Tommy, her new neighbor, there’s an instant spark, but Emilia is determined not to let her guard down.

Yet as they spend more time together, Emilia begins to fall despite her fears. Tommy has his own demons, but when he meets Emilia, he can’t quite make himself stay away from her. Emilia is a breath of fresh air, and he craves her light. But Emilia is hiding something, and he’s worried that in the end, he’ll be the one to get hurt.

Oh. My. Gosh. “Doll at Heart” is my first Danielle Marx book, but my oh my, I know now it won’t be my last!!! Tommy and Emilia have my whole heart, and their relationship was utterly epic and beautifully written. I love that while they were both damaged souls, their broken pieces fit together perfectly. This book was agonizingly angsty, but I enjoyed every second of it.

Emilia. She’s so sweet, so kind despite everything that’s happened to her. I love how she never believed the rumors about Tommy, and trusted the fact that he wouldn’t hurt her the way others may have claimed he would. Tommy. This poor man, I just want to give him all the hugs. I love how he never took advantage of Emilia, and cared about her and respected her even before he fell for her. Their chemistry was explosive, and I loved watching their relationship develop over the course of the novel. 5 steamy stars!!!

Emilia is looking for a fresh start and wants to experience everything she had previously been denied. As a “gifted” ballerina her life was structured to fit one end goal but a scandal has her and her family creating a new life in the small town of Bluerock. Tommy is the sexy bar owner next door and is on the top of Emilia’s list for new experiences. They agree to a mutually beneficial arrangement that is to be kept private. While Tommy’s past has finally returned and is forcing him to face his history and trust issues, he knows that Emilia is keeping secrets but doesn’t realize the extent of the trauma she’s hiding.
This was a heartfelt story that takes you from steamy encounters to emotional family drama and then to sweet and tender moments with Tommy and Emilia. I had been looking forward to Tommy’s story since reading Mess at Heart and was not disappointed. This is book three of the Bluerock series and while can be read as a stand-alone is best if read in order.

Doll at Heart by Danielle Marx

Bluerock Series Book 3

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I was given the opportunity to read this book as an ARC, this review is my honest thoughts on the book.

After the unfolding of a tragic incident, Emilia relocated to Bluerock with her mom and stepfather. Little did she know she would catch the eye of her new neighbor.

This is an age gap, friends with benefits, neighbor trope. I really enjoyed reading this one. I do recommend that you look at the ⚠️ TW before jumping into this one as it may be too much for some readers. The obstacles that are being over come and lead to the growth of both characters really melted my heart.

I was kindly sent an ARC of this book by the author and happily leave my honest opinion. I was really looking forward to reading Tommy’s story after reading the first 2 books in this series and will admit to being a little disappointed to learn that it was an age-gap romance are these are not my favourite. Especially when the h is so young (probably because I have a 19 year old, so purely personal taste). Emelia comes to town looking for a new start having gone through one of the most horrible things imaginable. She doesn’t want anyone to know or to treat her differently. Tommy is finally getting a divorce from his horrible ex and the stress is getting to him. When he sees Emelia dancing on the roof opposite him it brings him peace. They start talking and are drawn to each other, the age gap doesn’t seem to be an issue for them. Things are meant to be casual, but feelings get involved and get hurt. I could understand both points of view from the story and was sad for both of them. Emelia has a lot to sort through and it looks like Tommy might just be the man to help her with that and Emelia has brought a spark back to Tommy’s life. I hope there are more books in this series and we get to see them again.

This was the first book I read by this author. I have not read the first two books in this series but think I will after reading this one.

This is an age gap, next door neighbor romance with some trigger warnings.

Emilia is a ballerina but has secrets she is trying to hide. After an incident, she is forced to relocate with her parents to Bluerock. Deciding to make a new start she ventures to enjoy things in her life she previously couldn’t. I loved Emilia in this book!

Tommy is her new older next door neighbor and bar owner. Like Emilia, he has a dark past and secrets as well. Rumors spread about Tommy but he still pursues her.

I loved how Emilia didn’t believe the rumors and still wanted to be with him. With what started out as friends with benefits they soon developed feelings. The drama, angst, steam and sweetness of this book left me wanting more. And of course I loved the ending!

The story is about Emilia and Tommy who are working on dealing with the cards they have been dealt. This is the third book in the Blue rock series. It can be read as a stand alone but best if read in order.

Emeilia is looking to start anew after some bad experiences from her past. Emeilia was a gifted ballerina. Tommy is a sexy older bar owner. They meet and are drawn to each other. They both have secrets they will have to face and get past. They decide to become friends with benefits and keep it secret . As times passes of course feelings get involved and get hurt. This story has everything you are looking for from steamy encounters to soft deep emotional drama. It is a must read.

These books can be read as standalone books or as a series. (I personally did not read the first 2 before reading this one)

There is a trigger warning so just be aware.

I want to start out by saying I love how well rounded this book was. There were no lose ends at the end with the characters.

I felt connected to Tommy and to Emilia (and even Lana). I could feel their emotions and could definitely feel their pain/anger. I was able to understand each side as well.

I'll be going back and reading the other 2 books as well and was so glad I got a chance to read this book.

I think this is now my favourite one!
I have read the other two in this series and loved them both so I was really looking forward to this. It did not disappoint in the slightest. Amazing chemistry and build up. Beautiful love story and it was incredibly hot to boot.
I literally read this in a day and could not put it down.
Can't wait for the next one.

Typically I don't DNF, I either push through or heavily skim. But I had to DNF at 21%. Maybe one day I could pick it up again, and that's a maybe. But this book and the characters are not my type. And up to now, I dislike and can feel myself get an ick by the hero, Tommy. So far he's a player (reformed player? Since meeting the heroine?), immature, and quite frankly dumb. like dude, slow down and fucking think lolol!!!!

"Ryan whistled and Colton banged the table like a pair of rowdy teenagers. One of these days we’d have to act our age."

Yeah, this is a no for me. A grown tatted up man with a beard, yeah I expect maturity.

The story is about Emilia and Tommy who both have baggage and learn to overcome what cards they have been dealt in life. It was a slow start for me, but picked up in the end. I felt the couple lacked chemistry. I think if I had read the previous books prior to is I may have been more invested. It is a stand alone and I had no trouble with the characters. It is a age gap and has sexual assault.
