Will Luigi and Lily be lost to each other forever? We will have to wait for the next book to find out.
Thanks to Faith Bloom for allowing me to read and review this book .
The latest installment in Faith Isabel Bloom's saga lives up to the high expectations of earlier volumes. Bloom successfully handles a tricky balancing act, juggling fiction that is at once history, mystery, and suspense, with more than a little drama and pathos thrown in.
One criticism applies to this as well as the three earlier publications. While all have been well-paced and plotted, I would have been happier reading larger chunks of the narrative at a time. With half a series of my own already published, I certainly understand that each installment should end with a "cliff-hanger" or some such device that leaves readers anxious to get the next work, and Bloom accomplishes this objective successfully. Nevertheless, I found the present volume, which I received as an ARC, almost too short.
That said, the author has delivered yet another well-constructed story arc. In THE GREAT FIGHT, we become yet more emotionally involved with Lily, the crises she endures, the conflicts she faces, and the inevitable decision she ultimately makes. Bottom line: a compelling tale and a good read!
Heartwrenching Book 4 of Faith Isabel Bloom’s historical romance series is heartbreaking in so any ways. Its 1940 and the war continues. With Luigi gone to the front lines and Mary returned home, Lily is by herself except for Mr. and Mrs. Gianelli. Working for the British gives her something to do, but if they ever find out she is pregnant with the enemy’s child it will be treason. I was not able to put this emotional story done till the last page and now I have to wait for Book 5 find out what becomes of Luigi and where life is going to take Lily. Very much worth the read. I received an ARC of this book from the author in return for voluntarily writing an honest review.
The opening line sets the tone for the entire story of this tale of torn alliances.
Pregnancy under the best of circumstances is fraught enough with anxiety and potential risks, but add wartime conditions of fear, poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, etc. … Then to add a premature delivery? Without the other parent present for support and consolation?
War adversely affects everyone it touches – down to the depths of the soul where the damage lingers for decades.
Absolutely great book but it’s so sad that Lily lost her daughter Gabriella at 3 days old and Luigi was away at war. When he return he was so sad by the lost of his daughter he spent a hour at the grave grieving. This book was filled with so many emotions for me from Lily giving birth to the baby dying to her leaving at the end. You must read this book it’s so good. . Another great one by Faith Isabel Bloom.
The heartbreak continues. Lily is still hiding, trying to protect her unborn child and pray for a life with Luigi. As the war rages on, she is losing hope. This series has happiness, love, loss and hope. I would recommend this Historical fiction. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
This story is very heart wrenching. To be pregnant during peace times brings anxiety but in war time it must have been very difficult. This series has brought moments of joy, laughter, tears, and uncertainties. What will become of Lily in this foreign land?
