Two Wolves

Rate this book
In 1848, a thin piece of metal about the size of a ladybug altered the history of California. To some, the discovery was a dream come true, but to others, it became a living nightmare. The story of Two Wolves follows the lives of four childhood friends that make the arduous journey through California gold country with dreams of striking it rich. They soon discover that the gold rush wasn’t quite what they expected.

I like the Gold Rush Era, it's truly a fascinating time in US history. So, I decided to check this one out even though my expectations weren’t particularly high. This is the first book I've read by Giselle V Steele but I have to say it definitely will not be the last. I loved her writing and the characters she created, each one interesting in their own way and each one important enough to move the story along. It’s a pet peeve of mine when authors throw in a bunch of characters whose place in the story doesn’t always pan out. It makes for a boring storyline. But Two Wolves is a truly great story. I'm looking forward to checking out Steele’s other novels next!

I've read some books with the gold rush theme, and I was reluctant to pick this one up because I'm usually bored stiff with them. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this one! The story is interesting in that it brings up the moral dilemma many had to face when they searched for gold and the hardships that came along with it. But what I liked best is how it's written, beautiful descriptions as is usual with Giselle Steele books, entertaining characters that you care about, and a twist ending!

This is the kind of western I like to read! It's a fun read with interesting, well drawn out characters and a plot that moves along at the perfect pace. The book starts with a guy (we don't know if it's the main character or who it is) frantically running away from something. Thrilling opening. After that we get to know each character (the main ones are all childhood friends), a little background on everyone and join them in their journey to strike it rich. I'm giving it 4 stars because frankly I thought it was too short. I would've loved to have read more about these guys!

I'm a big fan of Giselle Steele's books because she can really pull in a reader into the fictional world. Every chapter opens with the colorful evocation of a particular scene and her characters are always rich and full of life. I wish I could have given this book 4 and a half stars. The reason I didn't give it 5 is because I was disappointed in how short of a read it was. I really wish it would have been longer and we would have been given more time to enjoy the characters and story. That being said, I anxiously await her next book!

I'm blown away by this author's diverse book offerings. How she goes from suspense/science fiction to historical romance to now a western theme - all of it exquisitely written, is beyond me. I thoroughly enjoyed Two Wolves as a fresh look on the old gold rush topic. I only wish the author would have expanded more on the relationship aspect of the four friends. I think that would have made this one a five-star.

Loved this book! Well written, interesting, and great story. Loved all of the main characters and was truly interested in knowing what was going to happen to each one. The ending was not at all what I expected but it was excellent just the same. The story stayed with me and it's one of those kinds of books that I really wouldn't mind reading all over again.

I highly recommend this as a great summer read! I found the characters engaging and the story constantly moving forward. The story captivated me from the first page and I’m not going to spoil it for you all…but the ending was not what I expected. It was a fun and entertaining read and I look forward to more from this author!

Interesting twist on an old subject. I really enjoyed this western themed book. Characters were developed very nicely and there was plenty of unexpected twists. For the most part historically correct. I also liked that the author took time to do her research and it showed in the plot as it moved along in the story.

What a fantastic story about four childhood friends in the gold rush era! Although it's been done (gold rush themes), I found this story so much fun and engaging to read. Loved the characters, the setting and descriptions, the dialogue, and of course, the surprise ending!

Best book I've read on the theme of the gold rush. The characters were not cliché, which was refreshing. But what I loved was that since they all got the "gold fever," it was interesting to see what happened to them and how they all changed because of it. Twist ending too!

This was a great book! An interesting twist on a worn-out subject - the gold rush. Still, it kept my interest all the way to the twist ending!
