It’s an unspoken rule, bridesmaids and groomsmen hookup at weddings.
Everyone knows that. Was it a good idea to use that loophole to lose my virginity to my brother’s best friend? Probably not. But after three mimosas, four tequila shots, and the champagne toast, telling Cash I was a virgin and I wanted him to be my first sounded like the best idea in the world.
And maybe it was. Unfortunately, a side effect of my liquid courage was having zero memory if I’d gone through with my plan. The last thing I remembered was strutting across the dance floor with my eye on the prize. Cut to me waking up in bed with the hangover to end all hangovers and a sneaking suspicion that things had not gone as planned.
Cash Malone
It’s an unspoken rule, your best friend’s little sister is off-limits.
Scratch that. It’s a spoken rule. Billy had made his feelings clear that he didn’t want me anywhere near Cheyenne. For a year, I’d successfully kept my distance from the only woman I wanted and the one woman I couldn’t have. But now everything was different. Now I knew things I couldn’t unknow.
Was a chance at love really worth risking the friendship of the man who saved me when no one even knew I needed saving?
NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, heroes who are cinnamon rolls in the streets alpho-holes in the sheets, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.
Afternoon Delight is the final book in the Southern Comfort series. I love this writing duo and the series, but I struggled with this book. This series does need to be read in order as there is a continuing storyline throughout.
Cheyenne was raised by her maternal grandparents but she’s back to see her brothers and get closure on her past. She’s always had a soft spot for Billy, her brother’s best friend and he the same. They needed to work through this so they could make their relationship work. They were on the right path until a curve ball comes their way. This is were the book lost me. I had such a hard time with this. It was unnecessary heartache and drama that I didn’t think this couple deserved. Especially the last 1/4 of the book.
I also had a hard time with their mother. Everyone kept saying what a great person she was but she constantly cheated on her husband. I know he felt lost after her death, but I felt bad for him. He went into a downward spiral and didn’t deserve that treatment.
There were a few new characters that were introduced in the book that I’m hoping we’ll see them in a story of their own. It wasn’t the conclusion that I was hoping for but glad to see the siblings get their Happy Ever Afters.
Afternoon Delight is the fourth and final book in the sister writing duo of Melanie and Shawna’s Southern Comfort series based on the fictional romances of the four Comfort Siblings, Hank (the fighter), Billy (the fucker), Cheyenne (the forgotten) and Jimmy (the flirt) who live on the fictional island of Firefly Ga. The authors left themselves a challenging “To Do” list with this final book. Of course there’s the romance between Cheyenne and her childhood friend Cash who have been dancing around each other since the first book in this series Panty Dropper when Cheyenne returns to Firefly for the reading of their father’s will after being gone for twenty years, taken from her brothers to be raised by their maternal grandparents when their mother Sabrina died in an auto accident when Cheyenne was only five years old. Cheyenne’s brother Billy whom she’d always been close to having been nicknamed Shadow by their mother for the way she followed him and his BFF Cash around when they were young has made it clear he’s definitely not down with Cash hooking up with his younger sister because of Cash’s history as a ladies’ man. Which is more than a little ironic coming from a guy whose nickname was Panty Dropper for all the women he went through before he fell in love with Reagan. There’s the matter of the siblings getting their mother’s $50 million dollar trust released now that the facts of Sabrina Comfort’s death have been revealed in the last book, Between the Sheets. There’s Cheyenne’s search for her biological father now that it has been discovered that she and her brothers do not share the same father. Although she’s deeply revered and missed by her children and her friends, it turns out Sabrina was neither a great mother when it came to the day to day responsibilities of motherhood, leaving much of that to Hank the oldest sibling. Nor was she a faithful wife. Sabrina was a pregnant teenage bride who married a man who became a functional alcoholic who spent all of his time running Southern Comfort his bar, and drinking. She had at least three affairs during her short life and got pregnant by two men besides her husband. One being Cheyenne’s unknown father and the other Wayne, the father of her unborn baby who was in the car with her the night she died. And as the last book, Between the Sheets closed at the wedding of Billy “Panty Dropper” Comfort and Reagan there are still three weddings to be had. Two of the brothers Jimmy (Isabella) and Hank (Skylar) are already engaged and just waiting their turns to walk down the aisle. Will Cheyenne and Cash join them? Then there’s Nadia who was introduced in the first book as Reagan’s college roommate who encouraged her to come to Firefly when her previous life in N.Y.C. fell apart and has been a regular secondary character in every book becoming best friends with all the Comfort women, and Ashley, Skylar’s younger sister who in the last book relocated from the West Coast to Georgia to be close to her sister and niece Luna. Will the authors leave those two ladies without a forever love? The authors have done a pretty good job of making this book an easy to read standalone for those who have not read the first three books. Without going into great detail you learn enough about the other couples who are not Cheyenne and Cash to understand their relationships. Although Cheyenne has been a secondary character in every book we really only learned in those that besides being taken and raised by her wealthy grandparents after her mother died, she is a doppelganger of her late mother. She looks, sounds and moves just like her mother making everyone who knew Sabrina remark about their similarities. Which is extremely hard on Cheyenne because she can barely remember the woman who was her mother. We learn that Cheyenne is working on earning her PhD. In psychology so that she can open a youth center to help troubled kids by using things like art therapy. Cheyenne used art as her escape and means of self-expression while being raised by her cold and demanding grandparents. When Cheyenne announced she was moving to Firefly Island after the death of the man she believed was her father her grandparents disowned her just as they had her mother. We learn that because of the restrictions her grandparents put upon her growing up Cheyenne had very few friends and none of them close besides Isabelle. She had become friends with Jimmy’s now fiancée Isabella when they both attended an upscale private middle school bonding over them both having lost their mothers at a young age. Even now back with her brothers, having discovered they don’t share the same father and not having any real history with them after being separated for the past twenty years she feels like a bit of an outsider even amongst her own family. Not really knowing her mother and having blocked out whatever memories of her she had and not knowing even who her real father is Cheyenne feels lost, unsure of who she really is. Cheyenne closing in on her 26th birthday is determined to lose her V-card before she turns twenty-six. Cheyenne is in love with Cash and wants him to be her first. But despite all the time she and Cash have spent together since she returned to Firefly she’s not certain of his feelings for her Cash is now co-manager with Billy of Southern Comfort the bar Billy and his siblings inherited from their father. He and Billy have been best friends, more like brothers from different mothers (who were also BFFs) since they were young children. While Cash was away serving two tours in Afghanistan as a Marine Billy stepped up to take care of Cash’s parents in every way possible when his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer. When Cash returned from the Marines suffering with PTSD and anxiety attacks, Billy gave him a place to live and work and insisted he get the help he needed. Although Cash doesn’t have a colorful moniker like Billy he’s no less attractive to the opposite sex and has had more than his share of women dropping their panties for him. Because Cash loves and respects Billy and their lifelong friendship, and owes him so much he does his best to respect Billy’s stated wishes that he stay away from his sister. Cash’s parents did not have a happy marriage due to his father’s dark moods and Cash is also afraid he’s inherited that personality trait from his late father. But the crush Cash had on Cheyenne when they were little children has returned in full force and as they spend more time together as friends, blossoms into real adult love. But Cash is as unsure of Cheyenne’s deeper feelings for him as she is his for her. IMHO this drags out a ridiculously long amount of time in this story for two people who have been sharing their deepest secrets and dreams for the past year. Even after Cash punches Cheyenne’s V-card they both still find excuses not to acknowledge their love for one another leaving them both wondering what their relationship status is. But such is the stuff contemporary romances are made of. Along the way the authors throw in a surprise curveball that could also derail Cash and Cheyenne’s budding romance. If it weren’t for Reagan and Cash’s mother Colleen these two might have never found their happily ever after. Even though I admittedly thought Cash and Cheyenne went on too long without expressing their love for one another I really enjoyed this book. If I had to chose one my favorite scene it was Cheyenne confronting her grandfather at the hospital defending Hank and what follows between Hank and Cheyenne immediately after. As we leave Firefly Island here’s hoping the Comfort Curse never finds our four couples.
What an amazing story. I’d been # teamcasheene since I’d first seen them together when Cheyenne returned. This is as the last book in the series and boy was it worth the wait. There was so much going on in this book and so many emotions, more than once I welled up. There was a lot of relatable situations, the not wanting to spoil the friendship with your best friend who saved you in the past, because you’re in love with his sister, and also the shyness and hesitancy from Cheyenne with her being to inexperienced. However, they took that leap and showed how strong their love was as they overcame every hurdle thrown at them; finding Cheyenne’s real dad, and over protective brother, controlling grandparents, and surprise secret babies. It just shows everyone’s happy ending is different.
I would love to look back in to firefly island in a few years to see these couples again with their growing families.
Afternoon Delight is the fourth and final installment of the Southern Comfort series by Melanie Shawn. The story is written in alternating POV and while I believe it is meant to be a stand alone- this series has a running mystery and inheritance issue that has spanned across all four books. Everything is generally recapped in each book, which allows it to be a stand alone but I'm a firm believer in that reading a series in its entirety is way more enjoyable. The entire series has been amazingly written, addicting, hilarious and so hot that I can't recommend it enough.
Cheyenne and Cash finally get their book! The stolen glances and longing that we've previously seen in the books of the Comfort brothers has finally come to this. I couldn't put it down and it most definitely did not disappoint. Cheyenne is almost 26 and still finding her identity as a person outside of her grandparents expectations and the ghost of her mother on Firefly Island. She is sweet, kind and shy- and really just wants two things, to be apart of a loving family and to give her virginity to the man she's in love with. That man is Cash- Cheyenne's brothers best friend. Only Cash is absolutely in love with her as well- but has held back out of respect to Billy but also because he doesn't believe he is good enough for her. But Cash is so swoon worthy with Cheyenne that you can't help but fall in love with him too. He's sweet and tender when she needs it but he can also be protective, alpha and dirty too. I loved seeing both Cheyenne and Cash grow as characters through the course of the book and while I wish it wasn't over I can say that the book ended perfectly for them.
Absolutely Fantastic Read!! I couldn’t put it down. I was excited with each new page, wanting, waiting to see what happened next. Cheyenne’s story did not disappoint. Cheyenne was snatched from her brother’s arms as a toddler by her maternal grandparents, the same grandparents that won’t even acknowledge their three grandsons, her brothers. Cheyenne has gone her whole life wanting a family, to feel the love of a family, something her grandparents never gave her. Cheyenne is now an adult and comes back to Firefly, her hometown. She is seeking the trust fund her mother had left her when she passed as well as wanting to reconnect with her brothers and finding the love of her family. Cash is Billy’s (one of Cheyenne’s brother) best friend, has been sense they were very young. Cash without Billy knowing as always been in love with Cheyenne. Cheyenne feels the same for Cash but neither of them know it. So, what happens when you have two people that want the same thing in life, including each other? Well, you have disappointments, road trips, heavy storms, medaling brothers, friendships, sex, surprise baby/pregnancy, and most importantly, HEA. This is a MUST read! Highly recommended.
I am so going to miss Firefly Island and the Comfort family. I hope the authors bring them back some in future books. I loved Cheyenne and Cash together. I felt so bad in previous books when Cheyenne’s grandparents came and tore her away from her brothers when she was five and her mother had died. I was not a fan of her grandparents. Some people with money put money, prestige, and false emotions ahead of love. This was the Comfort grandparents. Cash and Billy, Cheyenne’s brother, had been best friends since they were children. Cash had been in love with Cheyenne forever, but fell more in love with her when she came to Firefly Island. I hated that Billy told Cash to stay away from his sister. The sad part was that Cheyenne had been in love with Cash too forever. Both were afraid to mess up their friendship and say anything to each other. I loved watching the two grow closer and help each other with family issues that popped up. I loved the book and strongly encourage you to read it. I was given a copy and voluntarily wrote a review.
Afternoon Delight is the final book in the Southern Comfort series and it was worth the wait!
Cheyenne and Cash have been in one another's orbit for years. With Cash being Billy's best friend, Cheyenne used to "shadow" her brother and his bestie. Both of them have harbored feelings for the other for a long time, but there have been many reasons timing hasn't been right, but maybe their luck is changing. Will they be able to make something work between them?
Cheyenne and Cash were such a wonderful couple and the way their story unfolded seemed so authentic to them. They both had things they were dealing with from their pasts, but because of their friendship and connection, it made it all that much sweeter when they finally came together. There was plenty of chemistry and heat, but also so much love.
This was a wonderful way to end this series. I look forward to what Melanie Shawn has to offer us next!
**I voluntarily read an early copy of this title in exchange for an honest review**
Cheyenne is a 26 year old virgin, in love with her brothers best friend Cash. Everyone knows bridesmaid and groomsman hookup at weddings and so she decides that is the night . Only she might have over indulged a little in liquid courage and next morning she doesn’t remember anything. Cash has been in love with Cheyenne since they were kids and the only thing stopping him is knowing that his best friend and Cheyenne’s brother Billy will not approve. But now he needs to decide is risking losing his love worth the maintaining the friendship? This is a sweet, romantic, steamy and emotional read. The mystery of Cheyenne’s dad finally gets solved and we also get to catch up with the other characters from previous books. This is a very well written book with some wonderful characters, past and present. There are a few unexpected twists and turns but the curse finally proves false and we get a HEA all round. I have enjoyed this series and hate to see it end. Maybe we can have a spin-off with Harlan Mitchell of Farm Strong fame 😁
We are back in Firefly with the Comfort siblings as the last unattached one finds love. Three boys, now men , and their sister Cheyenne where separated when their mother died. FIve year old Cheyenne was taken away by their maternal grandparents not to be seen for almost 20 years. Now an adult, Cheyenne has move Firefly in order to embrace her family. She’s also been spending time with Cash, her childhood friend and the one she’s very much in love with. The story of these two is touching , at times heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. But the best part of the book was seeing how these siblings not only found the ones that completed them, but also found each other as they become a stronger family unit. This series will be missed but I am sure these talented authors already have an arsenal of stories that will be just as wonderful as this series. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Absolutely loved this book! Like, stayed up all night, dry eyes and exhausted the next day type of read. If you're familiar with the other books in this series, you've probably been waiting for Cheyenne and Cash's story. The whole series is amazing and addicting. Cash and Cheyenne have been circling each other since she returned home. I wanted to yell at these two, hug them and laugh out loud at times. Cheyenne and Cash have secretly been in love with each other, but since Cash's best friend is Cheyenne's brother and he did NOT approve, they didn't do anything about it. Then Cheyenne gives herself a deadline to lose her virginity and wanted it to be Cash, after too many drinks, confesses, but doesn't remember the next day. Watching these two on their journey was so wonderful. This book also wraps up a the mystery around the comfort mom's death. This book was simply amazing. I highly recommend it!
I can not get enough of the Comfort siblings and am very sad that this series is over!! Could not wait for Cheyenne and Cash's book and it did not disappoint!! The heat level on this book is red hot so watch out!! With the mystery of who's Cheyenne's father and the few road blocks and miss steps in Cash and Cheyenne's relationship, many secrets come out and could jeopardize this fragile relationship!! These two authors created this story about this broken family on Firefly Island that just drew you in and made you fall in love with these people!! You don't have to read them all but you will get more enjoyment if you watch each brother fall in love and have their HEA!! Go now and get your copy and enjoy!!
I have been waiting for this book and Melanie Shawn did not disappoint.
Cheyenne and Cash knew each other as children but when Cheyenne was taken by her grandparents and raised by them, she lost all contact with her friends and family in Firefly Island. She returned when the man who she thought was her father passed away, only to learn that he wasn't actually her father. The mystery surrounding her father has been hinted to in every book.
Cash has loved Cheyenne since they were young but did not want to act on his feelings due to the brotherhood and friendship he has with Cheyenne's brother. In this book, he finally takes a leap of faith and learns how she feels about him.
Cash and Cheyenne embark on a journey to learn about her past and who her father is. Throughout their journey there are many bumps but ultimately they find their own happily ever after.
Cheyenne and Cash’s story is such a fun adventure from beginning to end. This is the final book in the Firefly Island Series about the Comfort Family and “The Comfort Curse”. Melanie Shawn did not disappoint their followers with their “happily ever after”. The story evolves from Cheyenne and Cash’s past encounters, many twists and turns in their lives, and the many other characters including family and friends. The story is a beautifully written and an emotional high that has an amazing, surprising ending for everyone. I hate to see it’s the end for this series, but it was a fantastic journey!
This is the fourth and final installment of this series and I honestly think they saved the best for last. I have loved each book in this series but there was just something about Cheyenne and Cash. These two were a perfect match. Cheyenne is sweet, and so kind and all she wants is Cash. Cash so wants her too but because his best friend is Cheyenne brother he stays away. I honestly could not put this book down. When it ended I just wanted more. This book is a must read! I voluntarily reviewed this book in exchange for an honest review.
Cash and Cheyenne story is my favorite in this series. I don’t know how Melanie and Shawn do it but I swear every series I have read the last book is always the best.
Cash is Cheyenne’s brothers best friend and she doesn’t want to mess that up but she loves him. Cash doesn’t want to loose his best friend but he loves her. They end up road tripping together and solving their problems together and then finding their love for each other.
I couldn’t put the book down and would recommend reading the whole series but be prepared the best is the last book!
Seems forever since Jimmy and Isabella's story ...
But Cheyenne finally got her man! Cash is perfect for her, and brings out strength she didn't know she had! There much I can say, but honestly, Ladies this has been one of the most fun series I've read in long time. And it worth waiting for each installment, and certainly the laughter and Joy the Comfort's brought me reading about them! Loved every moment!
I absolutely adored this story! I was in such a book funk, but this pulled me right out. Cheyenne and Cash. Swoon! They've been dancing around each other in the other books, observed through the eyes of her brothers, but this is their story. It is somehow sweet, emotional, romantic and heartbreaking without ever going overboard. The balance is beautiful and the story flows so effortlessly while we get to join in their journey. I love everything about this story <3
This is such a fun book! It's a feel-good, steamy & emotional romance. Everything you want in a happily ever ever story. Great characters, old & new & the charm of Firefly Island. You will fall in love with Cash & Cheyenne. Lots of twists & turns, that will have you guessing till the last page. Recommend To Everyone!!
Afternoon Delight is the delightful final entry in the Southern Comfort series and I have been waiting anxiously for Cash and Cheyenne's story!! This book perfectly completes the series and is a fun read - as is the entire series. You should read them all - they are so good!!! My only complaint is that I finished it - I didn't want it to end!!
I really liked the story. It was a good way to end the series but, I will be sad not too see some of the characters in their own stories. I know this is a moot point but in chapter 23, there a geography error. If they were traveling from Indiana to Georgia they would not be staying in a motel in Kansas. Unless they were taking a long way around to get there.
Afternoon Delight was a wonderful wrap to this series! Cheyenne and Cash were two peas in a pod and the perfect couple. So glad Billy and the rest of the Comfort boys let Cheyenne make her own choices. She knew what and who she wanted and Cash was able to get out of his own head. Amazing ending!
Hate to see it end, but what an ending it was. Cheyenne and Cash find their HEA and what a funny, sweet and steamy HEA it was. The Comfort curse bites the dust and only joy and happiness reign in Firefly Island. You girls rock💕. I received this arc for an honest review.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I will miss Firefly Island and it's cast if quirky characters. I'll miss the Comforts and can only hope someday, we'll get a little peek in to the future for all of them! This was a most excellent ending to a most excellent series!
The final installment of the Southern Comfort series. All I have to say is it’s about time we’ve seen Cheyenne and Cash get together. They have been circling each other since the beginning of the series and I’m so glad they found their way to each other. Loved this book!
Cheyenne is back in town after being taken and raised by her grandparents. She's looking for her real father and wanting to tell Cash how she feels about him. Except her plan is to get drunk and throw herself at him. I liked Cash, although his story was a bit thin.
Heartwarming, sexy, fun and sweet journey filled with exciting and engaging charterers, witty banter, breathtaking twists and emotionally thrilling passion. A highly entertaining and edge of your seat adventure from beginning to end.
Afternoon Delight has humor, hot sex, a little sadness, and romance. He is her brother's best friend and she is off limits, according to her brother. But they loved each other as children and now she has come home to stay. Highly recommend.
Cheyenne and Cash’s story in Afternoon Delight by the amazing duo of Melanie Shawn, book four in their Southern Comfort series is another perfect match. This series takes the reader to Firefly Island and quenches a thirst reminding one of the importance of family, which comes in all shapes and sizes. This is a heartwarming, emotional, sizzling romance filled with humor, family, and love; love for family.
Cheyenne Comfort had crushed on Cash Malone since they were kids and along with her brother Billy, raising all sorts of havoc around the island. After the death of the Comfort children’s mother, Cheyenne was taken away from her brothers by her maternal grandparents to live up north. After the death of her father, Cheyenne returned to Firefly Island, hoping to reconnect with the brothers who were left behind. Seeing Cash again, makes her wants things she’s never had before. As a bridesmaid in Billy’s wedding, she believes there’s an unspoken rule about bridesmaids and groomsmen hooking up and since Cash is a groomsman, it’s the perfect chance to lose that v-card to her brother’s best friend, Cash; the only one she wanted to give it to. After drinking a little too much at the reception, she wakes up with a hangover to beat all hangovers, and suspecting things didn’t go quite as she planned. Cash had been warned to keep his hands off and to stay away from Cheyenne by his best friend and her overly protective brother, Billy. Cash was able to keep his distance from Cheyenne for a year, only being her friend; but she’s the only woman he wanted. The big question Cash will need an answer is, is love worth risking and ruining the friendship of the friend who saved him when no one knew he needed saving. Cheyenne and Cash end up taking a road trip together to visit Cash’s mother and find the answers to some really big questions Cheyenne has. While on the road, the magnetism and chemistry explodes, having these two burn-up the sheets while partaking in a little afternoon delight.
Melanie Shawn wrote a wonderful, hot, heartwarming and moving story that should not be missed. They provided a tale rich with emotions, magnetic attraction, sizzling chemistry, humor, secrets, and charming characters giving Cheyenne and Cash a chance at love and hopefully a forever. I fell in love with Cheyenne and Cash, along with her brothers, their girls, and the town of Firefly, making it so I could not put down this book. I highly recommend Afternoon Delight to other readers.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
