Edenbrook, a usually quiet college town, was ravaged last year when four sorority girls went missing. Their bodies - or what was left of them - were found months later, badly mutilated. The man charged with killing and torturing those women is now facing trial for murder.
His attorney, Elliott Anderson, is a professional manipulator. He uses his charm to convince Lola White, a sophomore at Edenbrook University, to enter into an affair with him and eventually agree to become his sons' nanny.
Despite the danger that looms in the air, Lola's sexual craving overpowers her fear. It isn't long before she realizes the job is not what she signed up for.
When I stopped thinking about this as a romance, it became better. All the red flags of an unhealthy (dangerous) relationship were there, making the smut not enjoyable. I like the underlying thriller story but hated the main relationship. Check out all the trigger warnings: rape, murder, getting drugged, etc
