Oh my gosh, this is definitely one of my top reads of the year!
Gigi was one feisty heroine. She knew exactly how to put Beau in his place in as few words as possible. Her actions and reactions were often hilarious as well as smart. For a younger woman, she knew what she wanted and how to get it. She was an incredible asset for her team and I loved that she was always there for her teammates.
Beau was prone to act first and then beg for forgiveness. But that only added to a lot of the fun moments. Of course, he also messed up royally on occasion and was a tad clueless on how to correct it. It was nice that he never fought his feelings for Gigi. There was also a thread of possessiveness/jealousy with him that I was gobbling up. I can never get enough of that!
I loved the banter between Beau and Gigi. They had quite a combustible beginning with the enemies-to-lover vibe going on. The chemistry between Gigi and Beau was evident even as they argued and fought with each other. But holy heck, when this slow burn finally ignited, this couple were FIRE!
And then, just as I was getting comfortable for the wrap up at the end of the book, BAM. A twist that leads us straight into a cliffhanger. This is just cruel and unusual punishment! I am in desperate need of the next book...immediately!
Wish I would have known about the cliffhanger ending when I started this. This novel was off to a rocky start, but got better the farther I wne. A little overly dramatic and the pacing was a little off.
I was hooked from the first page, I am a sucker for hockey and throw in that it is a book by Jessa York and it is complete.
I love that Gigi is a strong and independent woman that takes no shit from nobody. She keeps her head cool in hard times and is really there for her team, which makes her amazing.
Beau is a player on and off the ice but he is capable of change, which is part of the reason why he stole my heart.
They added bonus of puppies is of course greatly appreciated.
The storyline is incredible, the hockey, the effort they put into their teams, its funny, hot as hell, but also an emotional rollercoaster.
This book reads so easily it was over before I knew it, I was just absorbed into the story as if I were there myself.
I was less of a fan of the cliffhanger but I am on the edge of my seat to read what's next in store for Gigi and Beau.
Thank you for the amazing laughs in this book and the incredible sass.
Wow, loved this story from the absolute first sentence❣️ The characters are amazing and well developed and kept me entertained throughout with their “relationship”🤩 A not to be missed new series😍
Gigi has always looked up to Beau as he has been playing professionally hockey since she was a young girl and she has had a crush on him since that time. Now they are about to captain a male and female hockey team, while televising their daily lives - what could possibly go wrong🤷♀️
A great love story between Gigi and Beau and some fantastic laugh out loud moments I won’t soon forget😂 I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️
This book had it all; enemy to lovers: check, age gap: check, sports: check and steamy sexiness: um check, check! This book had me hooked from page one and I stayed up all night reading. It was totally worth it!
I fell in love with these characters and the storyline; it was cute, funny AF, steamy, angsty and just an overall great story. I felt so much for both characters and they were both equally frustrating. I wanted to reach through the book and knock them upside their heads a few hundred times. But that was just part of the reason I loved this book, it’s those angsty parts that just stabs your heart and you say “ohhhh”.
And that ending! Good Lord, I need book 2 NOW!! I really miss their little world right now. Great job once again, Jessa! And now I laugh a little when I see a cucumber.
This book is awesome! It’s an age-gap romance, I love that trope!! Anyway, it’s Gigi and Beau’s story. I love the fact both of them are hockey players. This is the first book I read in which the heroine also plays the sport. She strong, kind, smart, beautiful; he is strong, older, kind, but at times dumb! Ha! It’s an exciting book with lots of sexy times, time on the ice and two awesome hockey teams, as well as adorable puppies. I loved it and can’t wait for part 2!
This is Gigi and Beau’s first book out of two. Their story is funny and filled with heat. They are both captains of their hockey teams. They got off on the front foot at first but soon turn to friends then more. Their story is full of friends and laughter. When you get to the end of their story you will definitely be left ready for book two.
2.5 stars (?). Maybe? I didn't really like this duet but I also couldn't put the first book down for a while, so I'm going to rate it smack down the middle.
I honestly don't know how I feel about this duet. First of all, it didn't need to be a duet. It was incredibly long with a lot of repetitive stuff in there. The twist at the end of book 1 really could've been a normal twist in the middle of book 1 and we could've just had one book. I felt a lot of parts dragged on and on and on.
Also, the maturity level. Goodness gracious. Beau was immature. Very, very immature. 35 years old in the hockey world is definitely the end of the career. The guys are vets and have been there done that, they're not going to go out and party all the time. Nope. Also, they know how to have a normal conversation with someone and not run constantly when they overhear something or things get tough. If this is how 35 year old men act, then you need to find yourself some new 35 year old men. Otherwise, write them as 20 year old boys. GiGi was also immature as could be, but she was 22 and relatively inexperienced. I can see that.
I didn't like Beau and GiGi together at all. They were SO annoying. It was push/pull, overhear something and run, complain and run, whine and run. It was the most obnoxious, least-healthy relationship. I didn't think they were a good pairing and honestly I was rooting for her to dump Beau and get with Trey.
If I don't like the main characters nor their relationship, the book just doesn't do it for me, unfortunately. It's a shame too, because I really like hockey romances. I also liked what the author tried to do for female sports, I just don't think it was an issue that was properly addressed or tackled.
Zero Pucks Given (Las Vegas Angels #1) by Jessa York is a contemporary, enemies-to-lovers, fake-relationship, age-gap, sports romance told in first person, dual POV. As part one of a duet, it ends with a cliffhanger.
There are two brand-new start-up hockey teams in Las Vegas - one women’s and one men’s - and the entire journey is being filmed for a reality TV show that will air twice a week. Gigi Martin is captain of the women’s team. Her childhood hero/crush, Beauregard Moreau, is captain of the men’s team. Beau and Gigi get off to a very rocky start. But when somebody posts some out-of-context photos on social media, the public responds favorably to them as a couple, and their agent and team owners suggest they enter a fake relationship for publicity.
Can Beau and Gigi fake it convincingly with cameras watching them all the time? What will happen when the lines between fake and real blur?
I loved Gigi and Beau’s story. It was so flirty and fun! Both Gigi and Beau are strong, stubborn, and well-matched. Despite their initial dislike for each other, their chemistry is undeniable. The story was full of great banter, humor, and steamy scenes. If it weren’t for a complication introduced in the last chapter, this book would work as a standalone because, until that point, it felt complete. Beau and Gigi’s story continues and concludes in book two, Zero Pucks Left.
What starts as a slightly contentious relationship evolves into a fake relationship that’s full of chemistry between Gigi and Beau. Beau has always been Gigi’s hockey hero crush. But reality is a different story. There’s banter and some immature behavior from Beau but Gigi is a strong character. After the cliffhanger I can’t wait to read book two!
I love a good sports romance and this was definitely a good one. I loved that it followed 2 Hokey teams. Gigi I absolutely loved. The chemistry between Beau and Gigi *phew* off the charts. This was well written and engaging. I could not wait to see what happened after the ending!
I loved the first half of Gigi and Beau's story. Age Gap and a little enemys to friends to lovers with sexy times. Both Gigi and Beau are captains for their brand new hockey teams and have to lead their teams while navigating their budding fake not fake relationship on national TV. Both make mistakes however nothing stands in the way of true love for very long. At least until book 2???? Book one ends at a good place for the couple however more drama on the horizon.
This was a slow burn story that had it all, enemy to lovers, fake romance, age gap, sports and lots of steam.
The storyline was great focusing on the men and women's hockey teams plus being filmed for a reality show. I really loved Gigi and Beau, their romance, their puppies and their teammates. I didn't love being left hanging with that ending though. I need the next book now!
I loved this book! Beau and Gigi are an awesome couple! Gigi is the BEST heroine! These two are captains of a men's and women's hockey team, so they have a lot of work ahead. On top of that a television crew is following the teams for a new show. What happens when love is thrown into the mix. The writing is awesome, the plot is interesting and the characters are the best. Jessa York has a way of writing characters that endear you to them, make you completely invested, but also want to know them in real life. This is book one in a duet and does end with an "oh boy, what is gonna happen!" Awesome read! Can't wait for book two! I was given the opportunity to read a copy of this book.
Zero Pucks Given was a fun, flirty and entertaining read. Gigi and Beau are the captains of the new start up hockey teams in Las Vegas. They have a rough start but as they get to know each other, that all changes. Omg! These two were fabulous! So good together. You could feel their personalities coming off the pages. Of course, I wanted to knock them each in the head at different times lol. Ms. York did a great job showing the growing relationship between Gigi and Beau. Their story had me hook from the beginning to end and I am craving more! After that ending, it's a game changer! Another fantastic story and I can't wait for Zero Pucks Left.
This was such a fun read that had so many emotions in it. I did want to smack Beau at times for his immature behavior and letting Gigi think the absolute worst. I loved what she did as payback, an idea she got from a friend who also helped her as it was pure gold!!! Gigi is a fighter & a strong woman. This was a great start to a duet and I can't wait for book 2!
I am not a hockey fan, but this is an amazing story. Fake dating turns into real dating, but with lots of complications. The stories ending had me freaking out! I cant wait for book 2!!!!
Talk about angst and emotion! Gigi had me wanting to sob for her and the pain Beau put her thought with his immature behavior. I mean, he let her think the absolute worst for a while there, but when the truth came out, I was thrilled. And I was even more thrilled to find that Gigi truly was the strong, warrior woman I knew her to be when she’s faced with his stupidity. Her payback, with the help of Isaac’s wife’s advice, was pure GOLD. But now I definitely need more. I need to know what happens next!
While this is definitely a hockey story, it’s also so much more. It’s a unique tale of how male and female athletes are treated, how utterly unequally they’re valued, and how two people thrown together for ratings can burn everything in their vicinity via their chemistry without even trying. Beau is your typical pro who’s had far too much time living the charmed life, so it’s easy for him to act the fool. Gigi is used to hard work, but she also has a plan for “after”, along with an incredibly smart brain and quick mouth. And that drives Beau crazy, in so many ways. Their tale is exactly what I’ve come to hope for from Jessa. The rollercoaster of emotions, the humor and friendship, the skater you never saw coming to check you into the boards...it all made for a story and group of people I’m desperate to see again soon!
Author: The book is ending and they are together, happy. What should i do to drag it out? Oh yeah! In last chapter I will make a old ex from 5y ago show up with Hs twin kids. 0 mention of her before. H did not know about the kids. Yay. Another book of push-pull and H and h hashing it out.
This is baaad! This is really bad! I'll come back with more when I cool down and that is how bad this is. I'm so over scumbag male characters and absolutely weak heroines. In G's stand, I'd create such a media hell to destroy the asshole's image he'd never be able to recover.
Just wasn’t my cup of tea…my only real complaint is when there was dialogue in French I wish they translated to English as well. Ya girl is not cultured and has no idea how to read french
There is so much that is good with this book and just so much that is not.
The love story has the right amount of heat and great pacing. The two main characters on the whole spark off each other beautifully and the give and take as they find their footing in the fake relationship is fun to read. Their shared Quebecois background and godparents move seriously into the plus column and Beau's family is a riot. More bonus points for Canadian snack foods. Add in puppies and it really should work well, if that is supposed to be the main story plot.
Sadly, I felt blindsided by a reality tv show with convenient rules and dual (not at all believable) professional hockey teams that begin with shirtless men and angel wings.
All of the characters are almost wonderful, they foretell a series that will be fun to read. They have rich layers, nuances, and need-to-know backstories that are ruinously overbalanced with a level of immaturity that knocks suspension of disbelief at all levels. It is no wonder to me that the MCs are captains of their respective teams due to the nepotism of fairy godparents because any casual hockey fan will tell you that they aren't fit to get there on their own, especially near retirement 35-year-old Beau, who too often reads more like a twenty-something than GiGi does.
I really want to read the next book just to see how their romance comes together. I am just not sure that their story is worth another 300 pages. Also, GiGi sounds like a spoiled brat in the blurb. The story twist that ends book one is probably not enough to carry the story through a whole other book, though it would have made an interesting twist in the middle of the first book. I see myself giving in and reading it though, just because the author knows something about how to tell a story.

When the hockey hero you have dreamed about marrying comes into your life and is not what you thought he was, how do you deal with it? Will, you decided that you were just a kid with those dreams or that maybe he was always a jerk?
Gigi is the captain of a female hockey that is about to be on a TV show with her team and her male counterpart's team. She has had a girlhood crush on the guy's captain for as long as she can remember. Will she be able to focus on hockey, and live within the same complex as him while the TV show is filing. The problem is that there are cameras everywhere as it is a reality show.
Beau is the hotshot hockey player that is the captain is the guy's team. He is older than the rest of the guys and has a teammate trying to take his captaincy away from him. He wants to focus on his game, but Gigi walks into his life and causes all hell to break loose. She is infuriating and absolutely gorgeous. Will he be able to focus or will the tension finally break?
Will they finally give in to the sexual tension? Will they do what their agent and the TV show people want? Can they survive all the fake stuff going on? Does Gigi survive the heartbreak that Beau causes more than once?
Jessa writes a great age-gap, hockey lovers romance story that you will absolutely love to read. The twists and tension will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book.
Summary: Throughout Gigi's life, she has always watched and looked up to Beau and his professional hockey career. While watching from afar, Gigi mimicked Beau's career path and finally made it to a women's professional hockey league. A once in a lifetime opportunity is opened up to both players to captain their own hockey teams while also having their lives recorded and broadcasted on T.V. Gigi's expectations of Beau are broken and speculations of them are made. To raise the ratings of the show and to bring peace, the owners propose a fake relationship between the two captains.
My Thoughts: Wow, wow, wow! The chemistry between the two of these characters is so explosive! I loved Gigi and how strong and independent she was. I really related to her breakdown...😏 Girl has her priorities straight!😂 Beau was definitely a cinnamon roll hero and complimented Gigi's personality PERFECTLY! Plus, puppies!!! Need I say more?!?!?
I was hooked on the slow burn and fell off the cliffhanger!
This story was a lot! I really enjoyed the back and forth of the relationship as well as the slow burn.
This was a relationship heavy plot that, despite being about hockey teams in a reality TV setting, there wasn't much sport or TV involved. That isn't to say I didn't enjoy the development of Beau and Gigi's relationship. The crush that turns into fake dating and then into feels, there is, of course, a lot of confusion about feelings and miscommunication around who feels what. This thankfully plays into Gigi's strong, take no shit personality and Beau's pure stubbornness but weakness for this woman. I love an age gap, and this wasn't played on to hard as part of the storyline, but it's probably because Beau, living the famous hockey player life, left him a tad immature.
The interaction between the female team is wonderful, the friendships they have felt real. I can see these relationships with my friends.
I must find out what happens next so I will be onto the next book.
This first book in Las Vegas Angels Duet is amazing! The Angels are a new Mens and Women Hockey Team just formed in Las Vegas. Genevieve (Gigi) is the Captain of the women's team and Beauregard (Beau) is the men's team Captain. Gigi has had a crush on Beau since she was a child, but when she first meets him he destroys the image she has created of him.
Gigi is 22 and Beau is 35. I love age gap romances. Gigi is very mature for her age, and also very stubborn and strong willed. Beau still has some growing up to do, and showed his immaturity at times. When these two agree to be in a fake romantic relationship while their teams are on a reality TV show, tensions and tempers rise. Real feelings get confused with fake. Lines are crossed and then new ones drawn. Puppies bring added sweetness and drama. I couldn't put this book down!
This book ends with a surprise twist and leaves you eager to delve into the next book, Zero Pucks Left! FIVE PUCKY STARS⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a new author for me and I very much enjoyed this book. I enjoy a great sports/contemporary romance and this one had much to offer. The author was very descriptive so you got a great sense of who the characters were and the world around them. There were great pictures building in my head from the beginning. The back and forth banter between the main characters and the other characters was also great. I have to say the only thing I had trouble with was that it was a bit slow-moving for me at the beginning, therefore I had to drop a star. However, I hung in there and once I got about halfway in, I was rewarded and completely hooked. I was wanting to know more and more where the story was taking these characters. There were lots of emotions flowing throughout this story...laughs, tears, heartfelt love and steamy times. By the time I read the last page, I had jumped onto Amazon and grabbed myself the next book (yes, Book 1 is a cliffhanger). If you like sports/contemporary romances, grab this one. I think you'll like it.
New Hockey Teams + Reality Show – What Could Go Wrong!?!
Beau is captain of the men’s team. Gigi is captain of the woman’s team. They are housed in an apartment complex with cameras that run from 7 AM to 9 PM. No fraternization. Except.
The owners want the two captains to “have an on-screen relationship”. Gigi crushed on Beau for the last 10 years. Beau was a jerk first time they met. They are beginning to grow on each other. Pretending becomes easier / harder.
This is so well-developed and enjoyable to read! I’m thrilled this is a duet, as we are promised more – and right away! The characters are great – and puppies!!
The struggle of maintaining fitness, team and relationships. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
**I am voluntarily leaving my honest review of this book**
