Naga's of Protheka #2

The Naga's Pet

Rate this book
I am human bedsport. Death would be a mercy at this point.

As a human woman on Protheka, my life is miserable.
So it’s no surprise when the dark elves put me up on a market in Nagaland.

That’s when Kazhir sees me.

At first I don’t know what he sees in me – a frail girl in irons.
But he brings me to his home.
Gives me food and rest until I am healthy and comfortable for the first time in my life.

Am I to believe he is more than my master?

There is no way I can ever pay back Kazhir for his kindness. But I have one gift to give.
It's broken, bruised, but slowly healing. And I’ll give it to him if he just asks.

My heart.

Author's Note: This full length monster romance has a HEA but has some dark themes.

Celeste King is the author behind the Worlds of Protheka, a collection of interconnected series that promise dark fantasy, intense romance, and washboard abs. When it comes to her stories, there are sure to brooding alphas, sassy humans, and plenty of spice to look forward to.

With the ever growing fantasy worlds, the 'what ifs' are endless, and that is what excites her the most. Even she doesn't know just how far these characters will go, but she's gladly along for the ride.

You can always find her fearlessly diving into an adventure (in this world or another), typically with her husband, and partner in crime, at her side.

She helps keep the excitement alive for the rest us with each of her Prothekan works, where there are no heroes coming to save you and being kidnapped...isn't so bad when your captor is this hot.

⚠️ 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗚𝗘𝗥 𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗡𝗚 ⚠️

**𝙍𝙖𝙥𝙚, 𝙉𝙤𝙣-𝘾𝙤𝙣, 𝙊𝙧𝙜𝙮

This book could have been really good. In fact, it actually started out fine. I even found myself getting emotionally invested with the mc's family because of how accepting and nurturing they were to our fmc. Our hero was extremely thoughtful and despite the horrible life dealt her, the fmc was quite strong.

That said however, some highly alarming and very serious plot development hit around 70% of the book. That in of itself isn't bad, what soured the story for me was that the serious situation was just completely swept under the rug once our main couple were reunited.

***SPOILERS BELOW****

Human women were collected by the king, including our fated mate fmc. The king then allowed all the nobles and their families (soldiers included) to rape the women before deciding who they wanted. Basically, they realized that human females could get pregnant much faster than their Naga women and also bear multiple pregnancies as well. So, the king decided to have these poor women, who've already escaped Orcs and Dark elves – which enslaved them — become sex slaves a 3rd time. Most of them were so traumatized that they dissociated while multiple Naga brutally raped them. You'd think the story would address that but it doesn't at all, the plot just smacks you in the face and stays open.

I've read some pretty dark romance books and I understand the whole 'dark theme' labeling, but this came out of left field. Normally labeling a book #HEA means that there's some sort of feel-good happy ending. To even consider the ending here that, despite the spotlight on the main couple, would be a lie. We were shown the ugly truth of the Naga people right up until the end, and then the curtain was dropped as if that whole shitty scenario didn't just play out. Badly done, badly done.

** Trigger Warnings **

Non-Consensual, Orgy, Rape

The Naga's Pet is book two in the Naga's of Protheka series by Celeste King.

This book started out good. I enjoyed our hero’s family and found myself getting emotionally invested; because of how accepting and nurturing the family are. Our hero was thoughtful and caring despite the horrible life our heroine has lived.

Then around the 70% the plot takes a very alarming turn. That in and of its self isn’t bad, but this situation was momentous and the author just completely swept it under the rug once our main couple got back together. This plot twist wasn’t addressed and left hanging. The other thing that bothered me was after our hero fights for our heroine, his injuries aren’t dealt with; even though they are severe our couple jumps into bed, but how can they if he was bleeding so badly. Last, there were some issues with the writing.

Spoiler Below About Plot Twist

The plot twist killed my interest in the Naga's of Protheka series. The Naga's Pet started out good, but ended up not being the book for me. If the blurb intrigues you, I urge you to give it a shot. Just because it did not work for me does not mean it won’t for you.

Great story

So the second installment to the Naga's of Protheka was a great story. From how Shana was saved, to finding love, family and friends was very special. This adventure was relatable in many ways, from depending on people to see the world different even though the trauma and pain of a recent stitution.

I look forward to continue this series.

The Naga’s Pet maintains the ongoing search for true mates.

Although there were some distracting errors that should have been caught in editing, the second book in the Naga’a of Protheka series still provided a wonderful storyline and endearing characters! I look forward the the third book.

Disappointed

It started out great until the King decided to take human females and then I was totally disgusted… I finished reading the book hoping that something would be done about that part of the book but NOT…I guess I’m done with this series 😡

I loved that Shana is not the typical heroine, she is not feisty and confrontational yet she has strength still. She has endured an awful lot yet stil she remains a quieter sort of person, not everyone rebels from slavery with aggression. Shana has always managed to take herself away from the awfulness of her life by retreating into her head. She has not disassociated herself from life just taken a timeout so to speak. She is being sold again, not an uncommon happenign in her life and she has no reason the trust the Naga any more than the Dark Elves. Yet somehow when she is taken to Nagaland and bought there is something about her new owner. He doesn't seem to have the streak of cruelty she is used to. He is gentle and kind with her as is his family. Could it be that there is a chance of another type of life here? Kazhir has become good friends with the human mate of his best friend. He has taken time to speak with her on many topics and knows that she is not in any way the lesser that Nagas had assumed humans to be. Possibly they have just accepted it because the Dark Elves did and yet... Taking Shana to meet Jemma was an inspired idea because it meant that she slowly started to understand the culture she has been dropped into and it also meant that she started to understand himm as well. He was worried that she would always be frightened of him. He wants to claim her but has he waited to long as the humans in his area are all collected up and taken to the King, Shana included. Has he lost his mate before he even had her?

Shana has been a slave all her life and the two dark elves that have taken her off to Nagaland hoping to sell her are getting discouraged. She is sure that her death is imminent, since they are not going to bother trying their luck elsewhere. She doesn’t even care anymore if she lives or dies. When a naga finally shows an interest in buying her, she is sure she will just get more of the same treatment she has always been subjected to. Imagine her surprise when that doesn't happen.

Kazhir is searching the market for gifts for his parents when he spies the human woman in the cage. Having come to know his commander's human mate, he immediately heads over to bargain for her. The treatment the two dark elves have subjected her to sickens him, but he is low on funds and must barter with them to be sure he can afford the purchase. He takes her home and he and his parents begin the process of convincing her that she is safe with them and is no longer a slave.

Shana slowly starts to recover her strength and will to live. She and Kazhir grow close and she thinks they may have a chance together, especially after he takes her to meet Jemma, another human woman who has mated a naga. Then the soldiers show up at Kazhir's house and force her to go with them to the King's palace where she will be mated with a naga to bear children to help repopulate Nagaland. Will Kazhir be able to claim her or will others challenge him to take her away from the first happiness she has ever known?.

This is the second book and I loved it just as much as the first one and having past characters turn up in this book just made it all the more special. This author weavers her magic again as I was drawn into this book. Shana is a human that’s born and breed on Protheka and is treated like all human as slaves and entertainment but mostly very badly and now she is being sold by dark elves at the markets in Nagaland and she is spotted by Kazhir a naga who buys her and takes her home and his parents and himself feed and clothe her and treat her better than she has ever known and she wants to thank them by serving them but they tell her she is a guest in there home. Kazhir is at the markets and see a human being sold off that is serious need of his help and after his Commander Uzha found his human mate Jemima he knows she will be safe with him and his family. She is malnourished badly but under his care she will be healthy and happy for the first time in her life but he never thought he would fall for Shana but being with her makes him happy but others want his human and he will fight to keep what’s his. Now he wonders if she feels the same way he does and if so can they have a future together or will others try and take away there happiness. There is so much more to this book that will take you on a journey where hopefully humans will get treated better.

Shana was born a slave and never knew any family. She has been sold repeatedly to many abusive masters. Now some dark elves have brought her to Nagaland to sell her. All Shana wants to do is die and end her suffering. She has been starved, not given any water and is laying in a cage in the hot sun. The dark elves are getting angry that no one seems interested in her. They have decided that if she doesn't sell, they will take their pleasure and then cut their losses. Knowing she will be dead by night, Shana is resigned. Then Kazhir, a naga comes by and buys her. Shana hates the idea of dealing with a new master but Kazhir is nothing like her past masters. He just seems like he wants her to be healthy and happy. Is he too good to be believed?.

Le doy 3.5 ⭐

Primero que nada. Por qué les mama poner todo suuuuper bien y bonito desde antes del 50% del libro!!! Eso solo significa que todo está por irse a la mierda! No me gusta.

Kazhir, a naga sees a human slave, Shana for sale. She has been terrible abused and because of his friendship with Uzha and Jemma from book one ( The Naga's Mate ). Kazhir brings Shana to his family home to help her recover from this horrendous life. He and his family have earned her trust and more. Kazhir and Shana have great chemistry, sizzle, and steam and as their relationship grows, he hopes she will come to love him as much as he loves her. The book has great pace, some twists and turns. Another great look into the worlds of Protheka. And all of them are available to read for free with Kindle Unlimited. Enjoy all the creatures and worlds of Protheka. Thanks Celeste King.

I enjoyed this second book in the series which focused on human slave Shana who has been traumatized by her captivity on Protheka and must learn to trust and love again.
Naga Kazhir finds Shana shackled and caged in the Nagaland market by Dark Elves and is immediately drawn to the female’s plight and purchases her ostensibly as a helper for his parents who have come to live with him. But as events unfold Shana soon becomes so much more as she and Kazhir begin to connect with each other emotionally.
This was an expertly written and engaging read by the author and a wonderful Sci-Fi Romance!

Kazhir (H) is at the market when he spies a human slave, Shana (h), for sale. Friends with Uzha and Jemma (Book 1), Kazhir brings the injured and terrified woman to his family home to help her recover from the terrible existence she's been raised in. Gradually Shana comes to trust Kazhir and his family and as their relationship grows, Kazhir and Shana becomes lovers. But as the potential value of humans becomes apparent, there are others who want Shana too, and Kazhir will have to fight to save his lover if they're going to have an HEA. Definitely some very hot and intense sexy action - special eggplant makes things spicier. Great second book in the series. Love the Nagas!

I was so excited for the second book in this series after how much I loved the first. I loved this one even more. Great world building. But the characters did it for me. I absolutely loved them. Both naga Kazhir- who sees human Shana in a cage in a marketplace being sold by dark elves and buys her- to Shana herself, and his wonderful parents. (I loved Kazhir's mother almost immediately!) This story was sweet and beautiful. Of course there was also danger and action- this is still Protheka after all! A fantastic read! 5 stars.

Inconsistant

I generally like alien romances, but not when they don't stay on track. In the first one, The Nagas Mate, I made allowance for the fact that he knew how to kiss like a human without being shown but when this one brushed the hair back back out of his eyes, when a Naga is a reptilian being a nd obviously has no hair, I could no longer suspend my disbelief. I like a sci-fi book that is reasonably believably. This one wasn't and I didn't even finish it. Details like that bother me.

I am really enjoying this series and this book was very captivating. Kazhir and his family are so very different from the average Naga. Shana had a rough life but can she truly trust the kind Naga who bought her or is he binding his time to be cruel like all her other masters. I would have liked to see Jemma and Uzha more involved at the end but overall it was a great read.

A Thoughtful Man

Rating 3.5*
The Naga’s Pet contains surprises, a big hearted patient, kind Naga, Kazhir, and an abused by dark elves human, Shana. The story starts slowly but ramps into non-stop action and heat.
* Reason for the 3.5:
p 57 leave me and Laura alone (who the heck is Laura)
p 72 she…comfortable he (believe it should be she)
p 80 and it only be pleasure
After this point I started reading faster so errors would be missed as these are disrespectful to the reader.

Very entertaining

I enjoyed this book and found it entertaining. The characters were also nice to read about. I didn't like how the Naga who belie ed they were better than the dark elves start acting just as badly by bringing female humans for breeding. Also, what happened to Uzha when he got to the castle? He wasn't even there to witness the challenge fight. Otherwise it was a good read.

This was emotional touchily healing romantic story that I devoured. This story is about Kazhir and Shana. Kazhir bought Shana at a Dark Elf market. Shana a slave was used by the elves as bed sport and was never treated with kindness and respect. Kazhir desires her as a mate, but as they get closer to his dream, she's taken away by a degree from the King Naga. What occurs was an enjoyable story that I received via Booksprout and I volunteer to read and review.

nice story line, horribly edited

After reading several series from this author I think that they self edit, which in most books is fine. However, the inconsistencies in this book ran from calling a character the wrong name to introducing information in the POV before the character was able to know it. There were also several spelling mistakes.
While the story line was entertaining, it overall could have been improved by using at least a beta reader if not paying an editor.

Definitely rooted for this couple more than the couple in book 1. Not to say that they were better characters necessarily, but there was just something about how they had to fight more for their relationship, on both personal and social levels, that made me more invested in their stories.

Anyway, for the time being I do believe that I'm done with this series for now, but I will keep this author and the world of Protheka in mind for later reads!

Compassionate to Passionate

Shana is a slave, barely clinging to life when Kazhir buys her at the market and saves her. From there, Shana slowly rebuilds as a person, all the while the two of them fall for each other. I think the dramatic climax was my favourite part of the book - no spoilers, but that was tense! This series in Nagaland is building up to be an interesting one.

I enjoyed reading the first book so much that I decided to follow this series. Meeting the MMC proved me right, he is wonderful. He is just the right naga for our FMC.

I loved the story and I hope there is more to this series.

Perfect Pair

Kazhir and Shana are two lonely souls. Kazhir’s impulsive act of kindness was rewarded in ways he could not anticipate. Shana, the recipient of Kazhir’s act, is likewise fortunate and sees the potential of a future with happiness. I would definitely recommend this book!

The world the author created is very interesting and wild. I don't feel anything for the characters, the world is kind of unexplored, all you have to know it's that is dark and that's quite boring. Everything was too fast and the ending wasn't for me, overall I won't continue the series, next.

The Naga's Gift

Shana had given up and death seemed her best option. Then the Naga General bought her. It took awhile to realize the Naga and his parents were good beings and Shana was safe.

The na gas Pet

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, however; Na gas don't walk. Nagas don't have knees. Nagas don't take steps. Nagas don't wear pants.

There were also some grammatical errors.

I hope that the next Nagas sliter.
Thank you

What Fun!

This was an exciting read for me. I loved Kazhir’s parents and he seems softer in this book than the first. Everything felt like it flowed at the right pace with the right things happening. Very satisfying.
