As a retired hockey star, I could have anything, or any woman, that I wanted. Around this small town I was known as a player, or a life-long bachelor. And, I liked it that way.
Then she showed up. A beautiful woman literally washed up on my beach. She needed help, and I couldn't turn her away.
She's different from anyone I've ever met. And, after years of being a womanizer, she made me want one woman.
Her.
If only she knew her name.
If you like hockey players, a little bit of mystery, and a couple of scene stealing dogs, you will want to check out Falling for the Legend. Falling for the Legend can be read as a standalone, or as book 7 in the Laketown Hockey series.
I received this book as a arc member. This is jake story the owner of the otters and ex hockey star . What a great end to this series . Jake finds a women in the lake at his house not remembering who she is or where she comes from. Way better then 5 stars . This author did an amazing job of telling this story . Loved it .
Loved this, it’s different in its not as sports based, more of a mystery really, but saying that, it’s also a very satisfying read.
I’m sad it’s the last in the series, I’ve loved every character and these two were no different, excellent chemistry and a brilliant relationship between them. I will miss the Otters and Jake. Recommend read , but I also recommend you read the series in order it gives you a better understanding of the history and characters.
I'm a fan of A.J. Wynter and Laketown Hockey series so I've heard about Jake for so long at this point. When Wynter announced about this book, I was a little bit excited because I think I would get a chance to know him because like I said before, we've heard about him... we knew he is a legend hockey player who now is a team owner... he also has a good relationship with his players and employees... but that's it. So yeah, I have high hope to know more of his background and some. Too bad that this book is more focused on Cassie than him. I don't deny that Cassie is a mystery to be solved and the scene Jake found her is quite intriguing. But because of I get caught up with Cassie's mystery, I can't focus on Jake and Cassie's relationship even if Wynter tried so hard to bring them together in every chances. I also think it's unbelievable that Jake would get involved with her romantically that fast. Well, they have a chemistry but with all suspenses about Cassie it's so hard to believe in their love though. What if Cassie has a boyfriend and someone who loves her so much waiting for her to come back to him but she chooses to give in to her attraction instead. And Jake has no restraint and get involved with Cassie like that?!? That's a hard no for me. I know that for some readers their love story would be dreamy and romantic but for me, I want it real. I can tolerate with angst, tension, and all but it has to be real. So no, I'm disappointed with Jake.
Anyway, the reason I still give it 4 stars is because even if I'm struggling with Jake and Cassie, the town is still calling to me and I like how close Jake and his team are.
I received the book as an arc and are voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Mystery, intrigue, romance, passion In my opinion, I just finished one of the best of this series by Ms. Wynter so far. It has passion, intrigue, a wonderful story and BEST. EPILOGUE. EVER. Jake McManus ice hockey legend was forced to retire even though he’s only in his late thirties because he suffered a major concussion on the ice. The game was good to him though as he is a very wealthy man and able to contribute to his community of Laketown, known for its love of hockey and hockey players. Jake lives on Danger Island so he must commute via boat. One night he’s returning home and he sees litter in front of his dock. What he discovers takes him on one surprising, intriguing and romantic adventure. (When he cries, I thought my heart would break for him.) Saved by Jake, “Cassie Jones” so called because she doesn’t know the woman in the mirror, finds out very slowly things about herself. Whoa! This is one great story and becomes literally hard to put down after chapter 25. If you like mystery with your romance, read this book. I can guarantee your satisfaction. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book.
It's difficult to find a new way to tell an amnesia story. Apparently AJ Wynter didn't get the memo. Her refreshing tale definitely had my attention from page one. I liked the way Cassie recovered her memories through her daily living. It was apparent to her that she had experienced particular activities or if she never had done them. Her awareness that she'd never loaded a dishwasher before was a great counterpoint to her ability to fly a plane. Being a 'plant person' I was fascinated by her knowledge about plants and gardening. Jake, who rescued her and became her lover, didn't demonstrate the requisite attention to his civic duty of taking her to a hospital, reporting her mysterious appearance to the police, or use protection during sex. His wealth and fame may have influenced him to go with his baser instincts. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
It's time for Jake's redemption. Fans of this series will probably come into this with a lower opinion of him, new readers might not have a full understanding but should still be able to follow the story. I would give this book 4.5 stars but rounded up because I love the author and the cast of Laketown characters.
Jake is very surprised to find a woman in the water under his doc. He brings her inside his house and helps her recover. When she comes to he finds out that she has no memory of who she is. There are so many missing pieces at first with only a few clues. As they start to explore their relationship more and more comes back to her and we start to unravel the mystery.
I felt that Jake became more likable with this story and I enjoyed how much he's grown as a character.
I received an advanced copy of this story from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.
Rescuing His Soulmate - Wow is all I can say. When I started reading the story, I thought it would be just a run of the mill romance between a wealthy playboy and a woman he rescued across. However, this story has so many facets to it that I was constantly on tenterhooks and looking forward to turning the pages. The story is a combination of mystery, romance, mind blowing steamy moments, wonderful camaraderie between friends and unconditional support.
I was hooked on the story from the beginning and found myself so engrossed in the story, that I ignored all the calls I received on my mobile. I urge you to buy this book, because you will be happy to read and recommend it.

Jake was all about hockey until he’s retired from it. Now he lives in a small town and is used to having any and all the women he wants. He’s known as a womanizer and loves it! But he finds a woman washed up on his beach and has to help her. She doesn’t know her name but he calls her Cassie. She’s alone and he’s feeling protective and he’s going to be there for her. This is unusual for him and soon realizes that he wants her. He’s helping her to remember and she’s start to and realizes that it could be dangerous to be around him! Will he convince her that he can take care of them both? I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
So I love this series and was very happy to get Jake’s story. As always the author makes you fall in love with another hockey man. Jake exceeded my expectations. Again I enjoyed the mystery behind Cassie. She can’t remember who she is and Jake does save her life and is determined to be there for her. So with that being said I guess the instalove and I started attraction between the two was quicker than I expected; hence my four stars. If you love hockey romance than definitely read this series. Loved seeing Andy and Ellie again. I am volunteering to leave a review for this book
So let me start by saying this was a great book and I recommend reading it if you thinking about it! I’m not using a fan of sports romance books, however I love this author son I gave it a shot. Like I said it was a great book once I started reading I couldn’t put it down.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This is the story about Jake and Casey. This was a wonderful story I read in one sitting. I loved the first person point of view which is a deal breaker for me. This was an action packed from the start. 5 stars. I received an ARC copy of this book through Bookfunnel in exchange for an honest voluntary review.
I loved Jake’s story. He saves “Cassie” from drowning. She is unconscious when he finds her and can’t remember anything when she wakes up. They are very drawn to each other and start a relationship. Things slowly start to come back to her. I thought they were perfect for each other. Loved the added mystery in this story.
Loved this book. Jake is a retired hockey player and when he gets to his home in lake Casper he finds cassey floating in the lake, cassey doesn't know who she is but with jakes help will they find the answers? Has Jake found his forever?
This was a quick read with likeable characters. While there is an element of mystery to the story, it's relatively low drama as the book focuses on Jake and Cassie's developing relationship.

Jake appears as a background character throughout the series until The Defenseman's Second Chance, when he did something underhand that I despised. A.J. promised me that she was going to redeem him and I suppose she made him a kind and caring person in this book but frankly, I couldn't care less. I can't explain everything without spoilers so if you don't want to know, ignore the paragraphs under the SPOILERS header below. Jake and the woman he rescues are okay as characters but they never resonated with me and I found it hard to be invested in their story. The mystery element was interesting and well done, but if you're not enamoured of the main characters, the rest tends to lose something in translation too. I just didn't feel their connection and I was disappointed, though I kept on reading because it's A.J. and I will always read her books regardless. A.J.'s writing is as good as ever and she did write a decent mystery with a twist in it, and I loved seeing Andy and Ellie so happy together, so I've given this a three star rating but it's probably two and a half (and at least one of those stars goes to Jake's dogs). Other reviewers have loved this book so don't take my word for it. Give it a read yourself and make up your own mind, whether you've read the rest of the series or not, because I genuinely loved The Defenseman's Second Chance and gave it five stars, and it would be a strange world if we had the same opinions. I notice that there's a new book called The Puck King up next so fingers crossed for that one.
SPOILERS
Jake and Cassie don't know each other from Adam when he saves her from drowning and she has complete amnesia, but he just knows she's a good person, and she just knows that she can trust him. What? Why? If I woke up naked in a strange bed and then a man enters the room, I don't think I'd be as blasé about it as Cassie was. Why didn't Jake take her to the mainland to hospital and notify the police? Just because she kept saying 'no police' when she was conscious isn't enough reason. She could have been seriously injured and needed immediate attention but he decided to take her wet clothes off, put her to bed, check on her every twenty minutes and that was all she needed? Even when she wakes up and confesses that she can't even remember her own name, he still decides that keeping her hidden in his home on a remote island is the best thing to do. Don't even get me started with the 'instant connection' that they have which means it's all right for Jake to keep her and for her to stay, and try not to jump into bed immediately. They actually kiss far too soon, then (also far too soon, IMHO) have sex. Unprotected sex, without even discussing it, though Jake does seem to pull out just in time each time but it isn't always made clear, and neither do they ever talk about contraception. Jake says Cassie can be his gardener as her cover for living in his boathouse, but soon he's prancing around Laketown and introducing her to all and sundry as his gardener/girlfriend. Jake is as big a celebrity (and a player) as you'll get in Laketown and it's obvious that that sort of behaviour will attract attention. If he really wanted to keep her presence hidden, as she had wanted, that's not what either of them would do. The reason no one is looking for her is that she was going on a retreat and should be out of the country, but she ended up in the drink because the plane she was flying crashed. How did no one miss the plane? Regardless of where she was meant to be, a plane can't just disappear, even if it was a private plane. It's not like a thief could nick it and hide it under their coat and no one would be any the wiser. And how did she learn to fly a plane? It's not clear if she had a job at all, but she 'just knew' she'd never done the dishes or loaded a dishwater before, so maybe she was a spoiled princess (who remembered a housekeeper) but information was given about her family, I wasn't sure if they were rich enough to have their own plane. Her stepmother had reported that she'd stolen a valuable necklace but that wouldn't have explained why no one was looking for a missing plane, whoever it belonged to. I'm sure there were other things that bugged me but all those points were so implausible and more than enough to pull me out of the story at every turn.
This book seven in the Laketown Hockey series. Jake McManus is a well known name and for good reason, he was a professional hockey player but has since retired. He is still very active in the hockey world as well as trying to get his own business up and going. In a nutshell, life is good and Jake is happy with where things are at. One day he comes home from the mainland and sees something white under his dock in the water. Thinking it is just garbage, he is in for an unexpected surprise, it's a woman in a white dress. Meet Cassie. She is rescued by Jake but has lost her memory, to the point she makes up a new name and starts over. As Cassie and Jake get to know one another and become closer, her past drops bread crumbs until one day, the gates burst open to the past. Can the past destroy the future for these two or is it just a small wave in the water? A great story that pulled me in as always and gave me the whole experience of being right there inside the story. I loved it! I look forward to reading more. Enjoy!
This is my ultimate 5+-stars best mystery novel to date! I loved how the author has the hero, Jake, saving Cassie from near-death. Saving her is the start of the mysterious woman who literally washed into his life. When she revives experiencing amnesia, Jake protects her & helps her in every way possible in finding out what her story is & who this mysterious woman is who has captured his heart, turning his world upside down.
Definitely a page-turner novel with tidbits of her memory returning in the chapters. Will there be hidden surprises neither will like when her memory returns? Their feelings for each other are very strong but will it continue when the truth comes out? This story will keep you captivated & very interested on what will happen with these two characters & if a HEA is in their future. This is a must-read novel if you love romantic mysteries. Beautifully written!
I volunteered to read this ARC & leave an honest review.
Loved this book so much! Jake has lived his life all about Hockey. Until “Cassie” crashed into his life. At first, he’s not sure what to do, but he quickly realizes there’s just something about her. He wants to help her. Wants to protect her. Together they work to recover her memories and fall quickly for one another. As “Cassie” slowly starts to remember her past, she realizes that she may be putting Jake in a difficult position. Jake doesn’t care about her past, he wants a future. He’s willing to do what he needs to do to help her. Nice to see Jake get his HEA.
Jake McManus, former NHL hockey star and owner of the minor league team in Laketown, rescues a woman from drowning in the lake. She has amnesia, so she names herself Cassie Jones. She begs Jake not to contact the police until she can figure out if she is a good person or a bad one. AJ Wynter weaves an intriguing tale of love and it is somewhat suspenseful. A great read that I highly recommend. I received an ARC for my honest review.
I'm so happy that we finally got Jake's story. He has been such a key character in all the other stories in the Laketown Hockey series so it was so good to see him get his happy ever after. Loved the premise of the story with Cassie suffering from Amnesia. She brought a softer side to Jake. I'm so glad that he ended up with a nice woman and not a celebrity. The epilogue was super cute and now I can't wait to read more about Colton King.
I read this as part of ARC. Let me tell you Mr Jake was so worth the wait!! (If you read the rest of the Laketown series you know who Jake is) You thought you knew him but this story shows you a whole different side to him! You have to read this! It's another amazing book from AJ!!
She had the worst luck in the beginning of the book. It improved as things improved for her. She was truly lost from her experience and really needed someone in her corner. Luckily. He was there to help her and most importantly, believe in her.
This book was enjoyable. Not May favorite book in the series though. I struggle a bit with that insta-love, but overall it was a good story and well told. I recommend this book.
Finally we get to see Jake from another perspective and I loved this character. He was a good person with a lot of warmth. ’Cassie’ was also a good character, that was a good fit with Jake. I liked their story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book
Definitely enjoyed reading this book. Amazing characters. Entertaining storyline. Grabbed my attention from the first chapter. Highly addictive book that I couldn’t put down.
