Saving her Highlander Book 1: A Time-Travel Romance (Reunited in the Highlands Series One)
by Laura Wells

I received a complimentary copy and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Lizzie leaves her home in the US to travel to Inverness, Scotland. Whilst working as part of a research team at the McEwan clan castle, she takes advantage of the situation and delves into her mother’s Scottish roots.
Whilst investigating the ruins, she loses her footing and falls through not only her surroundings but also through time, right into the arms of John McEwan, son of Laird Alexander, still in the castle, but the year is now 1452!

Arriving out of the blue, Lizzie splashes around in what appears to be a well. How is Lizzie supposed to explain this? When John is as eager as she is to cover up the method of her arrival, Lizzie hopes her secret stays exactly that. Can Lizzie bluff her way through John’s initial questioning, drawing on her knowledge of medieval Scotland? Or will he see right through her deception and accuse her of being a witch? Read the book to find out!
Saving her Highlander is the first book in a time travel series where Laura Wells lays out the story surrounding Lizzie and John, their initial meeting and how their relationship develops. This introduction brings to light clan politics, harsh battles and dilemmas of historical events. Lizzie is acutely aware of how anything she does can change historical happenings and sincerely does not wish to interfere, but things become more and more problematic the further she integrates herself in the time she finds herself in.

I enjoyed this first book and am looking forward to discovering more. Watching Lizzie and John’s relationship develop is sweet and heartfelt. I genuinely like the character of Isabel, John’s sister, as a strong independent woman who insists on being recognized in such a male-predominant era.

This is a story of a modern woman, Lizzie, suddenly thrust into the historic past of her favorite castle in Scotland. In this castle is a well, a well Lizzie has no idea exists. As she is looking through the ruins the floor gives way and she drops into the well. When she fear she will never find her way out of the water a hand reaches down and saves her - John McEwan's hand. John Believes she is a witch because the well is a secret and the well is cursed, and how could she be anything different in her odd garb and suddenly appearing in the well???

The blurb on the book gives far more information than is in the story. In this book Lizzie is trying to convince John that she isn't a witch without telling him she is from the future, and he is trying to figure out how to meld her into his world without her being found out for who she is, even though he has no real idea of who she is. At the same time an opposing clan is preparing to wage war on his clan and he has to convince his father that they need to prepare! The story ends suddenly and moves into book two.

Overall an easy read. The writing isn't polished, but it is written well enough that it held my attention and I want to continue on with the story. This is also a clean read, no bad language, no sexual content - not even a kiss!

A Time Travel Mystery!

by Barbara Kelley

Saving Her Highlander Book 1: A Time-Travel Romance (Reunited in the Highlands Series One) is written by Laura Wells. This is Book 1 of 5 continuing episodes, each about 50 pages long.

This first episode shows how Lizzie, who lives in the year 2022, is examining the ruins of the McEwen Castle, when she falls into a cursed well and ends up in 1452. John McEwen, A man from the era, is said to have been killed, along with all of his men, by a rival clan. When he saves Lizzie from the well, he thinks she's a witch come to harm his clan, but she promises she's not a witch, and she means no harm to his clan. He hides her in his chambers, while he goes about doing his business at the castle. He returns to his chambers later that day and takes her on a tour of the lands. This is an era of long dresses and capes and Scottish armaments, A period that I have loved since I was a little girl. My mom used to make me long dresses, and because I loved wearing them so much said I was definitely born in the wrong century. I have been interested in all historical events and all the costumes they wore. Remember, this is only Book 1 in the series. Will Lizzie be able to save John McEwen and his men from getting slaughtered? I gave this first episode 5 stars.

This is an extremely short time travel novella set in 1452 and it has been suggested that there will be romance as well. It is best to read the book called Theia first to understand more about the background of the well that is mentioned in this story.

In 2022, Lizzie from America, has come to Inverness, Scotland to research an historical site AND her mother’s past. She unexpectedly ends up somewhere she has no idea how to return from and is about to help her rescuer make a decision in a very important historical event when this story ends…so am away to read to Book 2!

Enough interesting elements and descriptions of the main characters both past and present to hold the reader’s attention. However, if you do not like cliffhangers and a number of novellas to complete the entire story then this may not be for you.

Received this as a free Advanced Reader Copy and this is my own opinion.

Well drawn characters and a nicely paced almost lyrical story!
Interestingly, I read the second series first by accident but both are standalone even though series two does continue the water well portal way of traveling through time. In this book, we meet a present day Lizzie who is a medieval times buff seeking to learn more about her family’s history. On a trip to a Scottish castle, she wanders about the ruins and accidently falls down a stone well with a splash. Upon emerging, she finds herself most perplexed to now be in the 1400’s at the same location and meets a man from the clan McEwan. Looking forward to Book 2 for more! (And note that these are novellas, perfect for a bedtime read!)

The first in series, but read the Prequel, Theia, first so you get the story of the well. Great story but she didn't end up telling him who she really was. I would think this essential to an honest relationship. Besides the obvious angst of being thrust back into the 13th century, there was not a lot of relationship stuff. His relationship with his father seemed to resolve after he took his own life into his control, but there was not a lot between the couple. Both had thoughts that didn't translate into sharing. There were unanswered happenings, such as her staying in his chambers - shock horror - everyone would have known, especially the Laird. She was introduced as an ambassador but never met with the Laird. Odd. Nevertheless, I look forward to reading the next in the series.

Part 1 of 5 - Short time travel story with potential

To make this a better reading experience read the prequel Theia first.
So far am loving what I’ve read of this one hour short read of Saving The Highlander.
In 2022 Scotland, Lizzie accidentally stumbles through time while looking around castle ruins..
Thrown back to the year 1452 to Clan McEwan’s castle in Scotland she meets the lairds son John McEwan.
Am now looking forward to continuing Lizzie and John’s story in Book 2.

This book is the first time travelling romance book i've read and I loved it. I loved that Lizzie travelled to Scotland to see where her mum grew up and to see and study the castle she use to play in. When Lizzie went back in time to 1952 and met John who kept asking if she was a witch I laughed as that is exactly what they would of thought back then.

Plagiarism at its finest!

Huge rip-off of Mariah Stone, right down to the covers, font, logo, etc. Gross. Get your own style, author! Or are you just one of those ghost-writer author mills?

Curiosity will land you in some interesting places, and your adventure could be bigger than you thought.
Lizzie takes off to Scotland on a research trip. In the process of exploring the site of the castle on her own she is transported back in time. John is in 1452, and sitting by the well to clear his head after another argument with his father. Suddenly, he sees a woman in the well and pulls her out.
Confusion and hard to answer questions ensue, as Lizzie is trying to figure out how she got transported. John finds her answers, or nonanswers hard to deal with but accepts her for the person that she is.
Clan feuds, politics and the day to day of the time period continue, while the two grow closer and learn more about themselves in the process.
The story is sweet and sincere. A smooth flow, events do not rush and overlap. Characters grow with each page.
Life just has away of fixing what it misplaces.

I received an advanced copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
