The Bad Boys of Wall Street #2

The Price of Revenge

Rate this book
The rest of the world calls her the Princess of Wall Street, but I call her shallow. Traitorous. A she-devil in Prada. Those are the nicest words I’ll use for my ex, Cora Margulis, since I’ve made it my mission to keep her name off my lips. Though I can barely keep her memory out of my head.

My brothers and I have climbed the rungs of success, starting from the basement. Now that we’re at the top, I don’t lack much. But my newest charity needs a particular type of building. And the Realtor who holds it is the father of the Princess herself.

If he was anybody else, this would be an easy transaction. But there’s so much bad blood between the Margulis family and myself, I’m liable to drown at any moment.

But revenge burns hot inside me and I decide to alchemize this opportunity. It’s time to give the Margulis family what they deserve. I’ve been waiting eight years to show this man just how high a poor Kentucky boy can climb.

But in order to get to Allan, I need to get much closer to Cora.

The price of revenge, it turns out, is pretty steep.

I just might lose my empire—and my heart—in the process.

Billionaires. Bad boys. Bleeding hearts. These outsiders are known as the Bad Boys of Wall Street and every book in the series features glittering Manhattan skyscrapers, swoon-worthy heroes, and a guaranteed HEA.

First of all, it is complete #fuckery that I have not been drowning in this woman’s stories before now! Why has no one told me?! Every single one of you is blocked! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

Obviously, I loved this book. LOL But it’s more than that, I really love this author’s skill level in not only making sure that all layers of the story had a purpose, but also her way of captivating the reader even when the story isn’t exactly not not predictable. (ya’ll see what I did there with my phrasing? lol) For me, with this story, as far as plot was concern, I knew what would come, yet I was glued to the story every second of every minute. And that’s mainly because she added unique factors to the main characters that actually helped them in coming together. Yikes, I think that was wordy and I may not have said anything LOLOL Better put would be they had a common goal for different reasons and that common goal is what thrust them back into each other’s circles which in turn allowed them to see past the *past* and move thru to the future. OMG, I just read that, and it was wordier! *sigh* I just cannot give you details!! *cries*

I’m moving forward LOL, just know that the circumstances written into the story were genius but like “subtle genius”. Feel me? ANYWHO, I loved the spark that Cora & Axel always had which made their chemistry undeniable and getting thru their past hurts and humiliations that much sweeter. I really loved these two. But I also loved the brothers and their commitment to each other. I loved that both Axel & Cora had a mission of “giving back” and took their pasts to motivate them in the future. I KNOW, I’m wordy again!

I am super stoked to get a lot more stories from Ember Leigh. I like the way her brain works!

🎧Narration🎧… Jeremy York & Jill Smith were fantastic as Axel & Cora and all supporting characters as well. Both their voices have great range and distinction between characters was never an issue!

My absolute favorite trope is an enemies to lovers trope. Ember Leigh took it on step further and made it a second chance enemies to lovers. Ember is a new to me author and I have to say, I will be making my way through her entire list after reading this one!

Axel and Cora were engaged when they were in college, until her family interfered and she ended the engagement, essentially shattering Axel’s heart. Eight years later, they are brought back together by a business deal and it’s obvious they both have very strong feelings for one another. Although, Axel’s feelings aren’t anything close to love. In fact, it’s hard to see how this would end up being an HEA.

I have so many things I want to say, but I don’t want to give away any spoilers. This book was just that good!! I am very much looking forward to the next book in the series and to which Fairchild brother we get next! What a great start to a new series!

Axel Fairchild and his brothers Trace and Damian, the self-made billionaire owners of Fairchild Enterprises, have been searching for a building to serve as the headquarters of their charitable foundation for over a year. The perfect one just came on the market; unfortunately, it's currently owned by real estate magnate Allan Margulis, father of Axel's ex-fiancee Cora, who has hated him since the day they met. Seeing an opportunity to combine business with revenge, Axel decides to meet with the Margulis board of directors in person to present his company's offer for the building. What Axel doesn't know is that all is not as it seems between Cora and her father, or that she's secretly preparing to divorce her estranged husband, Eli, who was handpicked for her by her parents. Sparks fly between Axel and Cora once again as they work together in an effort to close the deal against her father's wishes, but the forces that dragged them apart eight years ago are stronger than ever before. Can they find a way to be together or will their relationship end in disaster the second time around?

"The Price of Revenge" was a fantastic start to Ember Leigh's new series and I absolutely adored it. Despite their years apart, the chemistry between Cora and Axel remained intense, and I couldn't wait for them to act on it. There was so much tragedy and sorrow in both Axel and Cora's backgrounds, but I loved that they were both so dedicated to giving back because of it. They found a found a way for some good to come out of all the sadness, and it was also one of the primary ways in which they connected.

I highly recommend "The Price of Revenge" for all fans of angsty/emotional contemporary romance and can't wait to find out what happens in the next book of the series.

DNF at 40%.

I just can’t.

I hate second chance with my soul and bones, but reading a second chance knowing why they broke up it’s frustrating because I don’t want them to end up together.

It’s frustrating. The author shouldn’t have changed the order of the books.

I loved this book and it was such a fantastic start to a new series. This book was angsty, emotional, and steamy. This book hooked me from the first page and there was so much that happened between these two in the past. The pain, anger, and chemistry between the MCs was intense and I could not get enough of this couple!

Jeremy York and Jill Smith were brilliant as Axel and Cora. I could not stop listening to this book and I can't wait for the next one!

What to Expect:
🖤 Enemies to Lovers
🖤 Second Chance
🖤 Billionaire
🖤 Revenge

To be honest I enjoyed the previous book more. I felt like more needed to happen during this book or it needed to be shorter. Also the FMC kinda got annoying to me at times. But in general, i enjoyed it.
The audio was great

A new series that pulled me in from page one (and that doesn't happen often!)
Meet three self-made billionaires, one of whom has an ex-fiancée whose father owns the property he wants to buy and there's a lot of bad blood between the families. Can Axel succeed or will he use Cora for his plans? And just why did she call off the engagement and marry someone else? He's going to find out one way or another, but what's going to happen when he does? Her husband isn't going to let things go easily and puts Axel and his brothers in his sights.

Some definite steamy scenes - video calls will never be the same again - and enough background to the characters to be believable without over padding the story.
A slight cliffhanger at the end only has me impatient to read book two, I hope we're not left waiting too long! Definitely one to read, and I for one would make it a five star one-click read.

Axel and Cora were together eight years ago until her family decided Axel wasn't good enough for her. She never got over him. Axel hated her, but deep down he still loved her he just hated her family. Eight years later there is a building his family wants and her family stands in his way. This time they come full circle and although it doesn't seem like it is in the cards for them they still have strong feelings for each other. She helps him get the building and they rekindle their love that never really went out. Watch out for the irritating character Eli, many times i wanted to jump through my kindle and punch him too. Ember really knows how to pull you into the story like you can see everything playing out. Im so excited book two is available, i definitely hate waiting :) Kudos to Ember!!

I love the rival’s daughter trope especially with billionaires. It feels like if Succession was a romance and I live for the thrill of boardroom takeovers. Cora and Axel were college sweethearts who we’re forced to break up by Cora’s dad. Years later, Cora is married and Cora’s dad owns the building Axel wants, the tension and the sexual chemistry is off the charts from the moment Axel and Cora are in the same room again.

The plot of this book was so good, especially with keeping the issues within the business and yet making it easy for a lay person to understand. Cora and Axel’s inner thoughts and their memories were amazing at showing how deep their love for each other runs. From Cora’s necklace, to the beach glass and every other little moment we see overtime, I couldn’t help but love Cora and Axel! I can’t wait to finish this series!

I enjoyed this one. We have three brothers who came from nothing. Now they have everything. They have a booming business. There are certain people in NYC that don’t like them. They don’t like them because they came from nothing. Also because they aren’t old money. Axel and Cora are set to marry. Cora’s family doesn’t like Axel. Cora brakes up with Axel. She has a new life going on. With a business deal they need with Cora’s family. It brings Cora back into Axel’s life. They both still are not over each other. Cora tries to get Axel to give in to their feelings. There are some stolen heated moments. Axel tries to push Cora away. It works for a bit. Then they decide to give it a go. Then there is drama with her family and her husband. Then the brothers are apart of a big scandal. Will Cora stick with Axel this time? Read the book to find out.

*slight spoilers*

I really couldn’t get into this book and felt like there was no real plot. The only conflicts came towards the very end and didn’t really have a resolution.

I never felt any chemistry between Axel and Cora and I didn’t find this to be an “enemies to lovers” type of story since from the very first interaction Axel talked about still being in love with her. There also is very little actual conflict between the two and she immediately jumps to help him so it just didn’t land with me.

I also really hated how much emphasis was put on Axel’s wealth. “I sat and ate my gourmet, luxury lunch that was so luxury on my luxury plates that cost a million dollars each and then jumped in my private elevator which is private and rich to go to my luxury high end car which is very expensive and also I wear expensive clothes.” We get it. He’s rich.

Amazing!
Wow! This is the first book I've read by Ember & I know it's the first if many. Axel & Cora's love hate relationship had me sucked in from the start. She'd hurt him really bad 8yrs ago & he hated her for it but before the reason behind her actions can be told there is a lot more emotional & physical drama to unfold.
This story has pain, anger, sexual chemistry with a mega load of steam, heartache, hope but also shows what happens behind closed doors is not all it seems but your desperate for a happy ending.
Going off the cliffhanger we've been left on I'm already counting down the days for the next brothers story.

This story of Cora and Axel had me hooked. The hate that Axel feels for Cora but also the strong love that never went away, made me root for a second chance. There are secrets that Cora kept from Axel to protect him and his two brothers. But is Cora willing to risk everything to give in to what her heart desires, Axel and freedom?

With the dual point of view and the few twist that happened in this book, I had trouble putting it down. Cora’s parents and husband, Eli made me want to strangle them and hope that Cora to get away from them. The last 20% part of this book had me at the edge of my seat waiting for the crazy stuff to happen and it was so worth it to binge.

Some things are worth losing for the sake of love and freedom.

This enemies to lovers story has a twist in that the main players were together before. It's also a second chance romance. Axel and his foster brothers have built their company from the ground up and are finally billionaires and gaining a reputation among businessmen. Except for the owner of Margulis Real Estate, his ex-girlfriend's father. The brothers want a particular building for a home base for their charity work and the ex-girlfriend, Cora, wants Axel to have the building. She has to work behind the scenes and closely with Axel in order to make the deal happen. Soon, as they are spending more time together, old feelings resurface. Is Cora willing to go against her father and everything she has stood for to have a 2nd chance with Axel again?

After having his heart broken 8 years ago, Axel wants revenge on the man that took it all from him but to get to him he will have to get close to his ex-fiancee. Will his heart survive? Or will history repeat itself.

Everyone loves the bad boy but a bad boy in a suit is just irresistible in every way. No wonder Axel had Cora dripping just with his silky voice.
Oh my Revenge definitely is sweet 🤌 can't beat a juice tell-all article.
This book gave me all the feels, from anger to full blown laughter.

Awesome Story & Narration🎧 Gripping & Intense!

The Price of Revenge
The Bad Boys of Wall Street, Book 2
By: Ember Leigh
Narrated by: Jeremy York, Jill Smith

Ember Leigh delivers more “Bad Boys of Wall Street” greatness and an amazing followup to “The Price of a Promise”, a continuation of Axel and Cora’s story, a story that picks up eight years later. Cora has lived her life just as her father wanted, married the man he chose for her, Eli, and is working in the family business, but she is not happy, her loveless marriage is on the rocks and she is tired of pretending. The Fairchild brothers have done everything they set out to do, became billionaires and continue to excel in the business world. They have been looking for a commercial property for their next project and saw one just come on the market that would be perfect, except it is one of Margulis’ properties. Axel would not let that stop them from pursuing it and comes up with a plan and for the first time in eight years he steps into enemy territory and sees her, the woman he loved and the one who betrayed him and broke his heart. Axel knew dealing with the Margulis was going to be challenging, one he was up to, he has some tricks up his sleeve, but would that be enough to stand up to the ruthless Allan and equally ruthless Eli, who always played dirty, even with an unexpected ally in his corner. This is a fantastic second chance romance, a story of vengeance and even redemption, and a story like no other. I loved all the layers of this story and how it all played out, with a perfect balance of drama, angst, twists and turns, heartfelt emotions and a steamy and meant to be romance. Ember Leigh, thank you for this amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧   Jeremy York and Jill Smith continue to do an amazing job portraying these characters, giving each a voice that is fitting and humanizing them with their emotions. I loved how they took each role and owned it, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters to sound. The pacing and tone are perfect and the quality of the audio is top-notch. They are entertaining storytellers and their performance elevates this already amazing story to another level. Thanks for another fantastic listen.

The Price of Revenge
The Bad Boys of Wall Street, Book 2
By: Ember Leigh
Narrated by: Jeremy York, Jill Smith

This is a fabulous story! Easily in my top ten this year, this duet is so good, I could not put it down. Ember Leigh is crafting a story of the Fairchild brothers that is second to none. We pick up after The Price of Promise and finds Axel and Cora eight years later. Cora's choice to stay with the family business finds her unhappy and in a loveless marriage. Nothing she has accomplished is recognized by her parents, but she is slated to be the next CEO of their company. Axel and his brothers have risen to the elite. Working hard and smart, their way to the top is through hard work, and as a result of their wealth, they are philanthropic. Now wanting a building for their charity offices and events, Axel is ready to go to Cora's office with an offer. And our story begins. Betrayals and pain are at the forefront as soulmates work their way through guilt, heavy hearts and love. I love this couple for so many reasons, but what stands out the most to me is the concessions they make for each other. Life is hard, decisions can be life changing and these two find a way to make it work. It's an amazing listen and I loved it!

Jeremy York and Jill Smith finish out this duet and it's amazing. York is a favorite and he nails the role of Axel. He is emotional and real, strong and resilient. His voice gives every inflection so feelings go straight to the heart. Smith comes in as Cora and what a woman she creates. Cora has a lot to deal with, and her pain and love are strong. Smith brings it all out, each nuance making her real. I loved this pair and their narration impeccable.

🎧 Audio Review 🎧

#ThePriceofRevenge by #EmberLeigh is #2 of the #BadBoysofWallStreet series and it is important to read #1 as this is the second part of a duet, although it could be read as a standalone but you wouldn't get the back story.

I loved both books, but this one happens 8 years later where Cora has become the Princess of Manhattan, and luckily realises that it's more important to be happy than sad for the rest of her life. I am not sure whether she made the right choice 🤔 by going for protection the way she did, but in a weird way it seemed to be the safest, but not morally, the way to go.

I loved the camaraderie between the three brothers but more than anything, I loved how devoted to Cora, Axel. I mustn't miss out the dear dog, Zero and the amount of F's he gives, which I did enjoy!

I'm only giving this 4 ⭐️ because I felt it was too light on detail and without giving anything away, e.g. how Axel dealt with Allan, the investigation and how Cora dealt with Eli. These were major parts of the story which were skimmed over and rather than discuss them, we entered the realm of arts and crafts which seemed odd to me.

The #dualnarration by #JillSmith who was the perfect Cora and #JeremyYork - well, he can read the phone directory to me and I'd be a happy woman!! I look forward to listening to the rest of the series when they get released. 😊

Thank you #HomeCookedBooks for allowing me to listen and review this book. I confirm all opinions are my own.

Eight years ago Cora dumped Axel, then went on to marry Eli. For all that time, Axel has been drowning in anger to the point that he and his brothers avoid Cora and her family at all costs. When they are forced to interact, he can't stand to look at her and is incredibly rude. He doesn't even ask her why she chose Eli over him until several chapters into the book. Cora is miserable and has been the entire time, yet she doesn't try to reach out even after she separates from Eli.

It took a while for this book to get going and didn't really start developing until around 50%. At that time, I would have given it 2 or 3 stars because of the level of Axel's ongoing anger and Cora's willingness to be everyone's doormat. When she starts growing a backbone it gets more interesting, however the ending feels incomplete. Things are not truly settled and Axel has ongoing issues with his business. I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't immediately take action against Eli and Cora's father when given the chance. My rating was creeping up to 4 stars until the ending and epilogue pulled it down to 3 stars.

The series continues with the epilogue setting up the story about Damien, Axel's brother. I'm assuming it will deal with the ongoing business issues although I don't intend to read it.

This is book 2 in Leigh's The Bad Boys of Wall Street and a wonderful addition to this series but can be a standalone as this delivers the conclusion to our main characters Cora and Axel whose journey we started in book 1 The Price of Promise. Eight years have passed and with it, Cora has become the Princess of Manhattan and Axel and his brothers have made a name for themselves with the wealth that comes with it. I adore the comradery between the Fairchild brothers - their love and affection for one another comes thru in true sibling ribbing. And Axel's dog Zero is wonderful too and shows Axel's dedication to helping those who came from a similar background as he and his brothers. Overall, I loved the push and pull as well as the sweet and steam balance this storyline provided. The dual narration was perfection, and I loved how the history between Cora and Axel made their conversations or lack of conversations so in depth. A wonderful read / listen and the ending while we have a conclusion for Axel and Cora I definitely need more of these Fairchild brothers!
