**You DO NOT need to read anything prior to this story. This is something completely different. Brand New**
Pandora Harris grew up in an inclusive community just outside of Atlanta, Ga called The Black Women Separatists. They do not believe in men, sons, or any other race aside from their own. Pandora is bravely ready to risk it all when she decides to break out of the community in search of her best friend, but ends up with more than she can handle. Khalin Jones is a no nonsense detective in Atlanta who was placed on leave after being on the task force that deals with one of the most dangerous cults in the south. Black Women Separatists. His traumatic connection with the cult is a direct result of his mother giving him away just because he was born Male. 30 years later, he gets a call from a woman who is in search of her daughter who she believes is alive and wants his help in finding her. The Perfect Sister who has never laid eyes on a man, and a irate Male who struggles to trust women enough to let his guard down. The craziest twists and turns happen when these two cross paths in Atlanta on a Friday night that leads them to realizing they’re connected in more ways than not.
5/5!! - The first thriller I have EVER rated five stars!!! Literally can’t stop thinking about this book. Every character feels so real and after finishing the first book, I’ve already started reading book two!! I can’t get enough!!! - This book has one of the most unique concepts I’ve ever read and I had no idea where the story was going to go which I loved. Couldn’t predict one second of this book! It’s so unique that you’ll never get bored. Felt like I was watching a movie!! - I’m SO glad the second book was available to read right after I finished this book because OMG THE ENDING!! I need answers!! Initially all of the povs felt like a lot to follow, but I ended up falling in love with every single character and now I couldn’t imagine having the story without every single one of them. This book is such an easy read. Perfect for new readers! You could literally finish it in a day! So so good!!
I am so happy that I waited until the second book came out before I read this because the enddddd 😮😮 I was literally on the edge of my seat.
Desiree is so creative, I loved everything about this. The world building was great and I had already read The Brotherhood series so I was so excited to see Stacie Newman and her husbands.
Rushing to book 2 because I need answers! Raven and Desmond were so cute. Sis just had to know about getting her back blown out 😂 Serai is an absolute mess but I get it. The disappearance of her twin sister made her invisible to her mom- she’s hurting. Khalin and Pandora are connected in ways they still don’t even know!
I have been “under the guidance” of the BWS for a few days now and I am worn out😩😩! My circuit board has been overloaded because WHAT on earth did I just read?!?!?!!! I HIGHLY recommend this series as well as the Brotherhood series. After the last 20 pages, I need book 2 asap!! My heart is breaking right now for my two favorite characters! The innocence….they didn’t deserve that and I need Desiree to make it right ASAP!!!
This was a good story that will hook you almost instantly! If you’ve watched the Handmaids Tale, this book is that x 1000 and with all black women! Since I read The Brotherhood series first I thought that the way Stacie lived was the norm for this group. Boy was I wrong! There are 4 different groups within the Black Women’s Separatists and they function and behave very differently! I’m really not sure how they can operate as a collective under the so called guidance of one main woman when the views are very different. You have one group that’s free spirits that behave…..freely lol while the next has multiple husbands in the home while the next raise their girls to have never even seen a man in real life.
This was some twisted a$s $hit and my brain loved every minute of it🤣🫣! Andera really surprised me being head of the same organization that destroyed her. If anyone should know the pain they are causing it should be her! This was a LOT. I can’t wait to see how things come together! 🤯🤯 I don’t want to give much of this story away, just know that it’s worth reading!
Woah that was a wild one!! I’m trying to figure out what really just happened because I’m shocked. After all the True Crime, mystery this and Lifetime that, I wouldn’t be surprised that there is a secret society/“cultmunity” somewhere out there like this. Let me just go ahead and start the second book expeditiously!
That is all for now… I’ll be back once my brains stops spinning 😍😩🙌🏾‼️
Update: Okay, this book sent me for a WHOLE LOOP. There were scene I laughed OUT LOUD and scenes I was sitting with my mouth on the FLOOR I was so appalled.
The Handmaids Tale, Meets Divergent, Meets Switched at birth, meets SISTER SISTER / TWITCHES ‼️ (( I swear I saw some Maggie Grey Easter eggs ))
This book touches on SO MUCH, from your views as a Parent, as a BLACK WOMAN, hell Id say it even tests the boundaries of what a father looks like. And all the while, when things are heavy to the point your eyes are popping out of your skull… you’re also LAUGHING YOUR BUTT OFF.
How? 🤷🏾♀️ You may ask‼️ How can something so serious also be so funny 👀? Because it’s written in a way that is SO DAMN RELATABLE that you can’t help it. YOU LAUGH to keep from crying… you laugh cause you’re angry…. And you Laugh cause the shit was funny 🙌🏾🙌🏾
This book is 🗣️ FOR BLACK WOMEN ‼️ PERIOD ‼️ It touches on everything…. Our struggles with Identity, Strength, Independence, Freedom, Sexuality, MOTHERHOOD, OUR BODIES, EVERYTHING that uplifts AND breaks us down.
IT ALSO DRAGS black men in the Best way 😩😩 I swear you’ll understand if you read it. 😅😅
I wouldn’t recommend if you are not able to respect Black Stories. Just mind your business and let us enjoy this one in peace ✌🏾 🫶🏾‼️
The interview TV segment that Dr. Torri and Khalin did together put me in the mindset of what is Dr. Torri hiding when it comes to these women and what is Khalin's full story.
I want to say that Khalin's story was revealed as he was a baby when it happened. So because of that, his side would consist of what was gathered from what people have told him. Now if the only person to tell Khalin about his story was his grandma, then I'm sorry but I do not give her enough credit to show the truth about her own life so I do not think she sufficiently told Khalin his story. I did feel sorry for Khalin, but then to see how he behaved while in the presence of the young ladies. I no longer felt sorry for him. I was upset more than anything. Pandora handled herself just like Raven and Princess held their own, and they weren't even from the Ward District! 😂😊👏🏽
The reveals pulled me left and right. Raven's mom is a piece of work. Princess. Lol I have no words besides 'okay Princess Tomorrow'!! I wanna see what you do in the next book. You and Stacie
Got to 38% and had to DNF. Way too many POVs making it difficult to follow. I really wanted to stick it out though because the reviews are glowing. Just couldn’t do it.
Imagine if you will, an all black female cult, based in the city of Atlanta. Here, women are taught that they are the dominant gender and males are evil. Each faction has their own responsibilities, which equates self-sufficiency. The cycle of life within this community is amazing, because the reader is taken on a journey behind the gated walls.
Pandora, the daughter of one of the council women, senses that something isn't right and ventures outside of the walls, in search of her missing friend. She takes Princess and Raven with her. Each young lady experiences something that will change her life forever.
Khalin has been hired to investigate the possible kidnapping that goes back 30 years. He is also led to believe that his biological mother is also a member of the Black Women Separatists. What he discovers is so much more.
This 💎💎💎💎💎 book by @authordesiree played across the screen, reminding one of The Handmaids Tale. I was completely blown away by the fact that the cult had members from all areas of life, and the ideologies that they instilled in them. I was left wanting to know more about Raven, Desmond, Seraí, Khalin, Stacie (and her husbands), Princess and Erin.
I don’t know how or what to say. So many thoughts! The world building was amazing with these new characters I’m drawn in immediately. Although we are bashing men in this book and specifically black men I’m not missing the jabs taken at black women who are misogynistic and colorist. I want to like a few character but with the way Desiree writes idk if that’s possible 😩. I’m ready for book 2 because although one of the biggest secrets were revealed the fall of the Sisterhood may occur on the secret Khalin hasn’t realized yet.
This book was so good and so very DIFFERENT! Admittedly this is my first time reading this author but it certainly won’t be the last. She crafted a storyline so unique and well written I felt that I was watching a movie, literally enthralled into the lives of the BWS. The ending most definitely suggests there will be a follow up and I’m excited to see how everything falls into place.
Absolutely loved it! This was a different type of book for Desiree, but it drew me in and kept my attention from beginning to end. The drama, suspense, secrets and lies kept the suspense going. The storyline was awesome and made me want to learn more about the cult/operation that was going on. This well written, exciting book was definitely worth the wait. I can’t wait to read book two.
I can honestly say this was unlike anything I’ve ever read—and, judging from the author’s note at the beginning, was very much the point. Some of the things written are just so crazy, you audibly gasp or laugh out loud, I know I did.
I read the whole thing in a single day, which says a lot. It’s one of those books you find yourself picking up any moment you can steal. I truly had no idea how anything was going to play out, and keeping readers in the dark that long? That’s good writing.
Someone in my book club called it the “Black Handmaid’s Tale,” and I’d agree. That’s also where my rating starts to dip. By the end, I found myself thinking, okay… this is getting a little too dark. The mix of heavy profanity and some of the scenes depicted were just a bit much for my reading palate.
That said, I’m invested enough that I’ll be picking up book two—if only to cross my T’s, dot my I’s, and see where this all lands.
4⭐️- *Blank Stare* 😳 I can't believe how much this wild story pulled me in! I added it to my Kindle library on a whim because the cover was beautiful , and I'm so glad I did. It's an exciting, fast-paced, and thrilling read! I can’t wait to read book 2!
WHAT THE HELLLL @ the ending omggggg talk about addicting!
Desiree/Granger has quickly cemented herself as one of my favorite authors. I’ve not been disappointed yet and I don’t plan to be. I’m so fascinated by the way her mind works and creates the stories!
I’ve noticed the author utilizes a bunch of characters in her books and typically I wouldn’t enjoy that but it’s done so well. Everything and everyone plays a role and it always comes back full circle leaving your mind blown.
The Perfect Sister was a WILD ride and I enjoyed every bit of it! The plot, the characters, the drama! I was able to visualize every aspect of the setting and I loveeee that about Desiree’s writing. This book is different to say the least and will definitely have you questioning some things but there are also some hidden messages and tokens embedded in the storyline. I could not put this book down. Moving on to The Perfect Sister II.💓
I have been a super fan of Desiree’s work since ATL Diaries. She cultivated a whole world within that huge series. This book is totally different from her other works but still just as great….brilliant. I only noticed a few slight grammatical errors (my bad…I am a English major, can’t help it) but I always read through and this story here is just wonderful. I cried, got angry, and worry about everyone’s fate as the tale ended. But the storyline though….just so real, engaging and I can’t wait for the next book that continues this drama. Yes! Buy this book or read it with your Kindle Unlimited….it’s well worth the time to spend on it. Desiree will also comment on your post, at least she did to mine via Facebook,a few years back while commenting on one of her books. I love her craft and mind, I am a book lover and I’m telling you to read not just this book but all of her work if you haven’t already.
Baby listen… this Black Women Sepratists group🤦🏾♀️ They are a wild bunch! I wouldn’t be surprised at all if something like this was actually happening. 🤷🏾♀️
Raven, Pandora and Princess… these women got a taste of real life in the ATL all for the sake of trying to find there good friend… or so they say. As time went on we learned that low-key at the very least Pandora was trying to dip off. It was just something not right about how she was raised and she knew there had to be something different out there.
The Sepratists… this reminded me of The Handmaids Tale, except these Black Women were moving in power… or was it brain washing? Either way I was scared for all of them.
Of the three, Ravens story broke my heart. Her mom🤦🏾♀️. Like really sis?
But no… what happened to Erin? All this dang time and chile😩. My mouth DROPPED! Let’s just say that was one heck of a celebration.
I know for sure I have never read ANYTHING like this before, and I can’t wait to get into part 2. Desiree you a wild girl! 😂
If you’re looking for an unconventional read, this the one.
I was looking for something different and damn if this wasn't it. My mouth is still agape at this ending. I'm also pissed because the sequel needs to be out ASAP.
A Black female separatist cult set in Atlanta. Similar to Handmaids Tale but worse. It's designed and run by Black women, and they are powerfully connected everywhere. This is a stand alone book, but I understand that there are other series of hers that tie into this one.
3.75⭐️ the story was good and I kept wanting to find out what was gunna happen? Where was it going. How did they end up back at Middleton. It was a little confusing with all the characters 😩 will read the 2nd book
Listen I am worn out!!! After reading the Brotherhood Kindle Vella's I was bought in and the twist and turns kept on happening and I'm just stunned. The Black Women Separatists have several factions and I was not prepared for the stark differences between the Coleman faction Stacie was apart of and the Brentwood faction that was heavily highlighted in this book. The Brentwood faction also believed that Black Woman are the most High, but they strived to function with no males at all. They highlighted the mistreatment and threats black men posed to black women. They wanted the women to understand they would never be safe with men, especially black men. This story was wild to me because they basically erased the entire male species from the women in the faction, many of them never even seeing a male before. I can't even articulate the lengths that they went to keep their community "pure" from males. Choosing only to accept daughters. I was left speechless. Andera is where this story starts and after the pain she went through I couldn't believe how nasty and underhanded she turned out to be. We see three women look for their friend, while they are exposed to the world outside of the safe walls of their faction. Poor Khalin is still bitter in this story and believes women are untrustworthy. His experiences with them definitely have not been the best, I understood his pain because of the way he was abandoned and raised. Overall this is a story like I have never read. It's intriguing and different and the author does a good job thinking out side of the box.
There is so much I don't want to spoil, however I was disappointed that the story didn't come full circle. There were so many loose ends and I felt at least one story line could've been closed. We never learned what REALLY happened with Khalin's first investigation that caused him to be on leave. The connection with the Brotherhood series was never fully made. I was hoping they talked about the differences in the factions with the characters, but instead it was glazed over. I hope there is a book 2 that brings this all full circle. I also hope that the editing is tighter with the misspelling and odd changes to the font throughout the book.
In Atlanta, an all-black female cult teaches women they are the dominant gender and men are evil. Each faction has its own responsibilities, promoting self-sufficiency.
Pandora, the daughter of a councilwoman, senses something is wrong. She ventures outside with Princess and Raven to find her missing friend, experiencing life-changing events.
Khatin, hired to investigate a 30-year-old kidnapping, believes his biological mother is part of the Black Women Separatists. His discoveries reveal much more.
There is an all black women’s community (The Black Women Supremacist), labeled as a cult, located right outside of Atlanta. They have created a world in which black women are the dominant race & gender and men are vile scum. What happens when you no longer want to play by the rules?! It gets ugly quick!
I’m not even sure what made me pick this book up, but I’m glad I did! This story was unique and captivating, very well written and I’m recommending it to everyone! The story ends in a way that lets us know there will be at least one follow up. I’m not sure when, but I’m definitely checking for it!!
Under HER guidance..I don’t have the words to summarize how I feel after reading this! The story itself is so creative, I was a little frustrated with the world building but you’re immediately sucked in to the storyline and the characters. This was wild if I could compare it to anything it would be handmaids tales on steroids!
