Enjoyed reading these books but there were a few things that dragged it down and made it a little ridiculous. Number 1 being the language; the only character that seemed to speak in an appropriate manner for the time period was the Scotsman and I believe that is just because he was scottish. Seemed like the author read Outlander and just copied the common Scottish phrases. It would have been much better if Henry actually spoke like a pirate from the 1700s not a modern man. Also the amount of times the phrase “God, I …” was used was irritating. The 2nd annoying part was the fact that Dianna was the only character to come up with any good ideas when they’re in battles etc. oh and not too mention why on earth would a woman from 2018 with ZERO experience sailing a ship let alone controlling one become a captain of men who have decades of experience! So funny. To build on that, it was so cringe and unrealistic that after she is captain Henry just sits back on the ship and goes along with whatever Dianna decides without ever giving his two cents… as I said with decades of experience sailing whole does that make any sense. The reason he was so desirable when she met him was because he was strong, powerful and intimidating. So it just really devalues his character. 3 stars is seeming like a high rating now but I actually did enjoy reading this series despite the annoyances.
