Going, going, gone, to the lady who wants sweet revenge.
Magnolia Popham never forgot the way Donovan Sinclair humiliated her when she worked for his family. Years later, he’s on the auction block to raise money for the children’s hospital, and she’s got the perfect plan to pay him back. A month mucking stalls and feeding chickens is just the thing to make him see what it feels like to be the hired help.
Donovan never meant to embarrass Maggie, yet now he’s paying the price. He didn’t know one stolen kiss years ago could cause so many problems. Toiling beside her at Popham Farm shows him the successful woman she’s become, and he’d like to get closer. Even with the drudgery of working the land, he wants nothing more than to bid on her love…and win.
Donovan is a heartwarming story about forgiveness and second chances set in a small, southern town. This installment in the Last Man Standing series is about Donovan Sinclair, a wealthy, successful businessman who broke the heart of the girl he loved years before. Magnolia still feels the sting and she hatches a plan to teach a high and mighty Sinclair a lesson on humility. What I loved about Donovan was that humility was not his problem. He didn’t need to be knocked down a peg. He needed perspective, and he needed to find a way back into Magnolia’s heart.
This installment of the Last Man Standing series is wonderful. When Donovan ends up working for Magnolia on the farm he discovers the experience to enrich his life more than just earning the big bucks. But even more important to him is Magnolia and finding what was once lost for a second chance at happiness.
This addition to the Last Man Standing series was worth waiting for ( book 13!) I love a good hero redemption romance, especially when the woman is in charge of the redeeming! Many moons ago Maggie heard Donovan say something derogatory about her to his college friends. Since then she had harbored a resentment that digs deep. When she's given the chance to get a little revenge, she takes it. But Maggie is no longer the hired helps' kid. She's now the owner of a thriving farm - a farm that needs every last man to help keep it solvent. When Maggie "Wins" Donovan in a bachelor auction for charity, she decides to show him what being the hired help really feels like. WHo teaches who a lesson is where this sweet romance leads. Kari Lemor is a one-click author for me and this latest little gem proves why. Witty dialogue, a great backstory, and a hero and heroine I can both get behind and believe and root for. Well done. 5 stars to this great story!
Donovan is a wonderful addition to the Last Man Standing series. When our bachelor is "purchased" by Maggie to help on her farm, he learns there's more to life than making money. Kari's description puts you right on a "working" farm, and I learned a lot. A must-read in this series.
Donovan, by Kari Lemor, is part of the Last Man Standing series. Donovan Sinclair is a single bachelor who works for his family’s successful business. He finds himself auctioned off to Magnolia Popham, the daughter of the Sinclair’s housekeeper when he was growing up. Maggie has never forgotten how humiliated she felt when Donovan kissed her and then joked with his friends about her being the hired help. What begins as Maggie’s way of getting revenge turns into a sweet Southern style romance. I love how Lemor develops the characters as the book progresses as both Donovan and Maggie strive for forgiveness and acceptance. And in Lemor’s usual fas,ion the supporting cast has you craving more!
Successful business Donovan Sinclair is on the bachelor auction block for charity thanks t his mother. Maggie Popham of Popham farms sees this an an opportunity for labor and some pay back as she bids on and wins Donovan. Donovan finds himself mucking out stalls, feeding chickens, living in a bunk house and all the other "experiences: that come with living and working on a farm. There are ups and downs, arguments, and compromises Maggie finds herself learning business techniques from Donovan on improving her farm while Donovan finds himself ;earning there is more to life than earning money. Can their differences bring them together and do they have a future when the auction period is over? A beautifully written story with characters that you want to know and admire. You almost feel like you want to step into the book and live it with them.
This is my first time to read a Kari Lemor book, and I was so pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. I loved the refreshingly clean and sweet romance told in the story, one that, despite its lightweight nature, seemed to have a grip on me because I couldn’t wait to get to the part where the two main characters finally acknowledge outwardly how they strongly felt for one another.
There are several main aspects of the story that made me fall in love with it. One, of course, was the heartwarming second-chance romance that we witness unfold between the main characters, Maggie and Donovan. I loved seeing how slowly but surely overcome the pain of past hurts that occurred between them; how they got to better know each other the longer they worked together; and how their discoveries of each other’s strengths and passions led to an attraction that only grew fiercer each day. But of course, there were clear obstacles in the way of them openly acknowledging their affections for another. It was precisely this journey to their acceptance of their love for one another that kept me glued to the book all throughout.
Two, I was drawn to the strong sense of camaraderie and friendship in the found family that Maggie created in her humble farm. It was heartwarming to see how Maggie’s compassion for others allowed her to build a family where members found safety, purpose, and hope for a bright future.
Last, I loved the impeccable work ethic of both Maggie and Donovan, one that they were able to emulate for the others who worked with them in Maggie’s farm. I loved the way farm life was described in the book, from how eggs, vegetables, and fruits are harvested, how they are sold in the market, and how overall the farm was competently run and managed by Maggie from sunup to sundown. It made farm life so appealing for me, given that I was born, raised, and living in the city! Donovan, too, became endearingly loveable as he made use of his business acumen in helping improve Maggie's farm business just because, well, he wanted to do anything and everything to help Maggie and make her happy.
By the time I got to the end of the book, I know I just don’t want the story to end. I wanted to keep being witness to the lives of the other characters in the book, as though you can’t help but want to continue living in Prescott Hill just so you can stay tuned to how everyone’s life there unfolds. Truly, this was one heck of an enjoyable read for me.
Never underestimate the I'm was always was trying to fix him up with the right women, she put him in the Auction held by the Children's Hospital. The Farmers daughter paid $15,000.00 for him to work on her farm for a month. Let the fun begin.
