(4.5stars) I was given a review copy to give my honest review!
I wasn't sure if I would be into dark romance at that start, but save to say I absolutely am!
If the TW for this book are ones you're okay with it's definitely worth checking out! This is a quick read for when you want to enjoy some smut without too much plot.
Wings in Captivity is well written and very, very spicy. It tells the interesting story of a relationship between a young girl on the run and the man who holds her prisoner. The story explores the dynamics and the power between the two main characters in an interesting way. It is fast paced and easy to read. I was a little disappointed in the abrupt ending of the novel as I didn’t feel it properly finished the story and I wanted to know what happened next but I hear there will be a second book in the series so the story will continue.
I received a free Advanced reading copy of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and is written voluntarily.
The cover makes you think fantasy right? Wrong... this is a dark contemporary romance. Check the content warnings before you read this.
I received a copy of this ARC for an honest review.
I enjoyed this! It's spicy, like all spice but it's really good spice. The kinks are HOT 🔥🔥 and Grimm is *fans self* Think a slightly lighter version of Zade in Haunting Adeline. IYKYK 😏.
Tara is on the run from an MC called the Rebels. Grimm is called Ghost, a contract for hire who takes an interest in Tara. He kidnaps her and she becomes his captive. Really just his sex toy.
I think the pace was fast, skipping ahead to one month later then an epilogue five years later, which gave me a little whiplash. I wish we had learned more of their journey but what parts we did get were done well. This really is more of a prequel of sorts to the main MC series.
If you're looking for a spicy read with BDSM, captive/captee kinks, great after care, and are okay with the TW, definitely read this.
Here’s the deal, if you are interested in a Beauty and the Beast style dark romance, this is the book for you. If you want a book with so much spice you’re ears will steam, this is the book for you.
I could not put this book down. I started and finished it within 2 hours, so if you want an easy, steamy, fun read check out Wings in Captivity!
This book is so yummy! I love dark romances! Grimm and Tara are a perfect match and watching their games is fantastic! I definitely saw myself in Tara. If you enjoyed Haunting Adeline you will probably enjoy this read as well.
Jessie is on the run from some very bad people. She’s living in a small town, under a fake name, when she catches the eye of Grimm, a bad guy with bad ideas. He kidnaps Jessie for his own personal needs but lines get blurred and what was supposed to be “just for fun” turns into something real.
Release date August 13. I feel if you like Penelope Douglas, you’ll like this.

Grimm and Tara what Can say. This book has lots of spice. I liked how Grimm was with Tara. I liked how his original plan about Tara changed. Even though there is lots of spicy scenes, I liked the story. To me the story was about the unexpected. It was unexpected for the both of them. She wasn’t expecting to fall for her capturer. He wasn’t expecting her his Butterfly. Beautiful ending. Overall great story!!!
Wings In Captivity by C. Soto is a dark romance story where Jessie lives in a small town while on the run. She figures in a small town in the middle of nowhere; she will be safe. Jared lives outside town by himself, coming into town only when he needs something. He was a sniper in the military and now he hunts and kills for those willing to pay for his services. When he sees Jessie, he knows she's a runner, no one to report her missing, so Jared decides he'll take her, break her, then kill her after he's had his fun. Neither of them could have expected how it would turn out. Jessie doesn't mind his "games." She likes them, and he takes good care of her despite her being his captive. He didn't expect to enjoy her so much. When the time comes, will he pull the trigger? Wings In Captivity is a love story filled with surprises. It's a fast-burn fast-paced story with lots of spice and kinks. Jessie sees something in Jared. She knows he's bad news, but she recognizes that even when he punishes her, he holds back and doesn't harm her. He makes sure he meets all her needs. After being on the run, it's almost like a weight is lifted. Jessie surprises Jared. She's not what he expected. There are many triggers in this book bondage, edging, spanking, dominating, and kidnapping. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars. It's a surprising love story showing how sometimes love is found in the most unexpected ways. This book is definitely for adults only due to graphic sexual content, kinks, and discussions of violence and murder. If you like dominating bad boys that fall for their victims and find the light in the darkness, giving them their HEA, then you will enjoy this book.

Honest Review:
Tara is on the run- hiding in a small town when she crosses paths with Grimm. This butterfly finds herself caught in the net of something even worse than what she’s been running from.
This book is heavy on spice and light on plot. The background story is interesting, but it’s not the subject of the book. It is the set up for the first book in another series, that will (likely? hopefully?) focus more on that storyline. 95% of this book takes place in one setting, concerned with the captive BDSM 🌶 and minimal character/relationship development.
Overall, I’d rate this book a 3/5.
The writing in this book is very descriptive, I was interested to learn more about the background story, and I finished reading the book in a day.
I would argue that the trigger warnings should be expanded to include non consent and sexual violence.
I appreciate the opportunity to read and review the eARC of this book.
Grimm is a contract killer and a recluse living in a small town. Tara is on the run from the mistakes of her past. She wronged the wrong people. Grimm catches word of Tara’s flighty habits and sees a perfect opportunity to capture the little butterfly for his own enjoyment and games. Tara may have been running from one monster but caught the eye of another kind of monster.
⛓ Captor/captee kinks ⛓ Lots of spice ⛓ Dubious consent ⛓ BDSM with after care ⛓ Fast paced
🦋I went in blind with this book and assumed it was a fantasy. It was definitely not what I expected. It took me a moment to get over the shock factor of Grimm and his intentions. He was just sinister in my opinion. This was a kidnapping with BDSM play and he had deadly intentions when he was done with her. He groomed her like a doll, punished her when she disobeyed, and then comforted her afterwards. I will say his punishments weren’t extreme though.
🦋Then there was Tara. Her reaction to her situation was as expected at first. Then after only a couple of days she was warming up to Grimm. Playing his games and accepting his behavior. Major Stockholm Syndrome happening. I couldn’t wrap my head around her reasoning.
🦋The ending felt rushed. I would have liked to see their relationship build over a longer period of time. I didn’t feel a connection with either MC. The epilogue was a few years fast forward and I was really disappointed that a big part of the story was skipped over. Although, there is a spinoff series coming from this standalone so maybe that story will be told after all?
First thought that comes to mind after reading this book is WOAHHHHH... this book was intense. I liked how this book was written in both the captors and captives pov esp because the captor does some very dark stuff and it allows the reader to see what his thoughts were and his mindset. It's definitely interesting to see how their relationship starts compared to how it ends.
I will say that this book is extremely graphic, the author didn't spare ANY details in this book. Since I don't read this trope often, I will say that this book was very unique to me as a reader and I enjoyed it. The by author was able to show both the light and the dark sides of the MMC. While i didn't like him in the beginning.... (cause let's face it, some of his behavior makes him seem like a straight creeper). However I did start to see him in a different light as the story went on. The ending of this book was really good, definitely a HEA. I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book. I loved the authors style of writing, even as some of the book was extremely graphic, I was more than intrigued. I finished the book in one day.
To read this book you'll need to be ok with reading about kidnapping, bondage, torture...fair warning. As smutty reads go, we get into the thick of it quite quickly. Grimm is home on an assignment, living in his small town where he gets some privacy and reprieve from his demanding job as an assassin. As a general rule, women in his small town are off limits...however when he sees Tara he recognizes many things in her. She isn't from this town, and she's hiding from someone. He kidnaps her and begins to play his own games...and as she learns to live by his rules, she sees his more gentle side.
Thoughts: Overall this was a well paced quick dark read that kept the pages turning. There was an interesting storyline between the sex scenes that kept things interesting, and I specially enjoyed the overall character development. If you're looking for a quick steamy read and are ok with all the warnings then go grab this book.
Disclaimer: I received an advanced e-copy of this book free for review.
Definitely judged the book by the cover with this one, and man was way off. The wings referenced are metaphorical - this book is all human, and super SUPER spicy.
Tara is on the run from the Rebels and hides out in a small town, thinking she'd be safe there. Much to her surprise, she gets caught by a darker force, Grimm, an assassin who's been keeping a low profile in the same town. He takes her as his sex slave and they develop quite an interesting relationship.
Not being prepared for the spice, I was more interested in their backstories and wish that was more developed. It's a standalone, meant to be the prequel to the Eagle Riders- Motorcycle Club series, and I'm definitely curious to see where that takes us.
Grab this book and bring a towel with you if you're looking for a dark romance with all the spice and kinks you could desire between a ghost of the night and his captive little butterfly.
“I’m darkness that comes to rip people’s souls out and gifts them to death. She is a light. She’s quirky and weird, says the most random things and has manners in the most precarious of situations”
“The puzzle of my destruction will remain scattered in a thousand pieces”
Tara was trying to escape from a monster and all she wanted to do a fresh start but was held captive by an assassin and a ghost in the night, coming to gift souls for the Reaper known as Grimm. Now she must escape from him or accept him as her fate. Oblivion to her destiny as darkness peering, light and darkness is coming together. If Tara is light, Grimm is darkness. He wanted a little more of Tara and Tara always felt love, hurt, pain and every emotion in extreme. Will darkness consume light or light will take over darkness? Will love overcome pain? Or it will be end of Tara?
The story of Grimm and Tara/Jessie was very fast paced - I finished it in just two hours!
The story is by far the most intense, smutty book I’ve ever read. It had a bit of a Stockholm Syndrome vibe, but the POV from Tara/Jessie also showed her internal struggle with the situation, as well as Grimm at some point, which gave the story more layers.
I really hope there’s a sequel to this book, because I want to know more about their history and future. Even though their story got me hooked from the first page, I would have liked a little bit more world- and character building, but that’s just my preference. Overall it was an interesting book, with a sweet ending!
Arc Review First of thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book for an honest review. So lets get down to the nitty gritty, So we have Grimm who a contract killer and Tara whose running away from another monster. He ignores the flare he feels when he meets her but gets so intrigued he peeks in on her anyway. In which he eventually he captures her and man the kink was kinky we have a Captor/Captee kick, some parts where well consent was debatable
He honestly is not going to make it to my book boyfriend list, I just feel that because I like his whole demeanor he just felt mean, since she gave off such meek vibes. The Stockholm syndrome hit in early like she didn’t even try. It was however very fast paced. I might need a couple more chapters to fully feel it closed it.
I absolutely love this cover. It’s dark and gorgeous. It gives paranormal feels but this story is not. I enjoy dark romance but feel that non-con is missing off the trigger warnings list. This wasn’t my first captive romance. But it was my first time reading this author. Tara is on the run and is abducted by Grimm, a hired assassin. He chains Tara to his bed and uses her for his pleasure. I wish we saw more development between these characters. There were moments where the author fell into telling more than showing. My favorite line: “Use your words butterfly.” I’m not even sure why he calls me that. I don’t even have a butterfly tattoo or anything. Stupid if you ask me. Overall: if you want an easy, fast burn, kinky read. This story is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 3.5/5 ⭐️
This is the first book I have read from this author. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the story. I will say that it was super saucy and spicy.
The story started off very exciting with a possessive alpha male assassin that had his eyes set on an unexpecting victim. The captive to lover trope is always a very difficult scenario to write and I would have liked more of a back story of the main characters as it was difficult to connect with them at times. I would have also enjoyed it more with a bit more suspense and drama.
Overall it was an interesting read and ended on a very sweet and heartwarming note.
I have read this author's Tampa FBI books. Which are different from this one. I like the variety in the different genres. While the other books did feature sexy moments, this book is by far the spiciest of them all.
Whenever Grimm is around, the temperature in the room gets hotter and the air a little less making it harder to breathe. Tara can feel it too. Therefore, the intimate moments between these two is through the roof. There are all kinds of sexy playtime had between Grimm and Tara.
I really enjoyed this book a lot and look forward to reading C. Soto's next book. Wings in Captivity is a sexy, romping good read!
Wings In Captivity (ARC Book Review) Rating: 3.8/5
Cute story, and fast read. It’s really fast paced, skipping ahead to one month later. And then a 5 year later epilogue. Gave me a little whiplash. Other then that I enjoyed the story.
This book was super spicy, but the good kind of spice. And the kinks are HOT.
Tara’s on the run from an MC called rebels, and Grim is called Ghost, a contract for hire. He instantly takes an interest in Tara and kidnappes her keeping her captive. (Really just his sex toy)
If you looking for a spicy read with BDSM, Kinks, after care, captive/ captee. You should definitely read this book.
Wings In Captivity was such a fast paced, quick, dark read. There’s many trigger elements to this so make sure you check those first.
Grim and Tara’s story is unconventional to say the least. She’s on the run and he’s a professional chaser, if you will. He’s borderline a villain and she’s his butterfly.
As for the spice, I think the book went places many books don’t and sometimes made me uncomfortable. The second half of the book really changes the perspective of it.
Pros: Dual pov Spicy Part of a series
Cons: Triggers I wish the FMC was developed a bit more
I received this as an ARC for my honest review, thank you!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Okay, this book was not at all I was expecting! I saw the cover and figured it was a fantasy.. could not have been more wrong, lol! This is a dark romance, with LOTS of spice (which I love, so was in no way disappointed). Definitely check TW before reading this one.
Our FMC, Jessie AKA Tara, is on the run. She is currently staying in a small town, trying her best to keep a low profile, when she happens to meet Jared, our MMC. Jared, or Grimm, or Ghost, depending on who you are, is a killer. He is a contracted hitman who is self-proclaimed to have no empathy, compassion, or conscience. When he sets his sights on Tara, he has to have her for himself. His little butterfly, he calls her... and he wants to tear off her wings.
This book is incredibly spicy and definitely dark. It was a fast paced, quick read, that engrossed me from the start.
Thank you to the author and Katie & Brey PA for the ARC, all opinions are my own.
This dark romance is sure to knock the reader's socks off with how spicy it is. Tara is a young girl on the run. That is, until she is kidnapped by a man who takes her captive. Basically, he uses her as his own personal toy. This book is well written and just a great story. Make sure you check it out, it's worth it.
For me cover is important and most of the times I choose books on how appealing their covers are. I liked this one and I said to give it a try. I realised I don't like some tropes: captive, bdsm, rape. In the triggers I saw dubious consent but in the book consent does not exist, but rape and sexual abuse are there.
Holy moly! I didn’t expect this book at all! It was soooo good! I truly enjoyed it. The spice and relationship was intense and I couldn’t put the book down. I read it in less than 24 hours. I do highly recommend ♥️
I couldn’t put the book down I finished it in three hours. The way the author described the spicy scenes had me like OMG. I was imagine myself as Tara and it got a little hot. I have to say OMG and the characters development in this book is top notched. I will highly recommend this book.
Spicy. Kinky. Fast Paced. Did I mention Spicy? A kidnappinig with ominous intentions takes a turn. So let’s throw in action and suspense. Well, this folks, has it all. Definite trigger warnings. Don’t plan on putting it down until you’re done.
