The Seasons Change #4

Where Waves Break

Rate this book
My new boss is:

-A former rock star, turned grumpy mechanic

-A single dad

-My teenage crush

It was supposed to be a one week job. Nannying Diego Garza's adorable, four-year-old son should've been easy.

But things get complicated when Diego catches me doing something I shouldn't. When he confronts me, I do the only thing I can think of: get down on my knees.

To my surprise, he doesn't get angry.

Instead, Diego Garza calls me a good girl.

Then my one week job turns into all summer. I'm living with Diego and his son, desperately trying to forget how right it felt to be on my knees for him and how badly I crave to hear more of his praise.

Except Diego doesn't forget. All day I take care of his son, and every hot summer night, he takes care of me. He tells me I'm perfect. Beautiful. Sexy.

I want to belong to Diego Garza in every way. But he hasn't asked me to stay when this job is over at the end of summer.

The question is...when I'm not his nanny anymore, will I still be his?

"This isn't good, you know. We're never going to get over each other if we keep getting pulled back together."
"I'm never going to get over you, no matter what."

Stop glowering at me like that, book cover dude.
I'm not raising my ratings because of it.

***I always try to be as objective as I can with my ratings for DARK THEMES & TRIGGER WARNINGS, SMUT TECHNICAL CONTENT/INTENSITY, SMUT QUANTITY, ROMANCE QUANTITY, ANGST LEVEL, ENEMIES-TO-LOVERSNESS; the ratings for CHARACTERS, WRITING, PLOT, WORLD BUILDING, SETTING, SMUT QUALITY, ROMANCE QUALITY, are instead tied to my own subjective reading experience and final opinion of the book.

This had so much potential, I swear. It pains me to admit it was average at best.
I've purchased this on a whim after reading and absolutely going feral over another one of Julia Wolf's books.
Was I waiting for the magic to repeat itself? Kinda.
Was I let down? Unfortunately.
Serves me right for being an eager little bitch who can pace herself when it comes to her romance binges, I guess.

Where Waves Break has a premise that would make me salivate on a regular day, but it's the execution that left me questioning a lot of things, including my own capacity to judge books based on their plot.
The characters were absolutely unrealistic and I even dare say unrelatable (in Diego's case more than June's). Diego is described as a grumpy single dad but in reality is just a stubborn and rude ass. Don't disrespect the Supreme Grump Daddy Extraordinaire that is Tobias Rhodes (All Rhodes Lead Here) by putting assholes like Diego Garza on his same category ever again, pls.
When we first meet him he goes all spoiled bitch on the house help's ass and he was insensitive and treated the FMC like an used tissue most of the time and for no reason at all. A real heartthrob in the flesh, right?
He also kept calling June a good girl out of nowhere and in the most inappropriate of ways, and instead of resulting hot, he came out as a total patronising creep.
June is sweet and lovely, unless Diego is involved. In that case, she turns into a doormat and pushes all her personality under the rug to give his ego all the room it needs. Please, girl. I get it, you've got a praise kink (don't we all at this point) and were basically thrown into the open arms of your teenage crush like a piece of meat into a lion's cage, but for the love of everything holy under the sun.
Grow a spineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
I'm glad in the end she stands up for herself a little (especially with her sister - get a life, Iris), but having to witness her letting everyone dictate how she should live and think was exhausting.
The part where she got sick and Diego took care of her made me cringe so bad. It was one of those moments that should never make it out of a self-indulgent fanfiction, and it only confimerd neither June nor Diego would actually survive in the real world.
The smut was frigging underwhelming. The relationship between the main characters is latent and dull, and I can excuse June because she's had a crush on Diego for years now, but him falling for her as fast as he did was pretty unbelievable.
The dirty talk kind of helped, but there isn't enough dirty talking in the world to make up for the lack of chemistry.
The only part I really liked were the scenes with Diego's son, his brother and sister-in-law, or his dad and step-mother. Basically, everyone related to Diego, except Diego himself.
Oh and I also really loved that part where Diego's dad and his brother give him shit for being an ass.
Good times, babes. Good times.
Yeah, I guess you guys've figured it out by now.
I can't stand the dude.
The subplot about June's dad infuriated me to no end, because it had the potential to give this story the angst it (actually) needed -not the third act breakup bullshit I had to endure-, but was resolved in a rush and in a way that left me wondering why it was even there in the first place.

Cute epilogue.
Too bad Diego ruined it by being there 😩

I’d never be the same after Diego Garza. He’d changed me irrevocably. There was no going back to a life of not knowing how good I could have it. I was ruined for anyone else.

I’m telling you all now, Julia Wolf is one of the most underrated authors I’ve read recently. So many of her books are fantastic and this is one of the best I’ve read!

June is Iris’s (lead singer of TSC) little sister and has finally quit her job working for their father to follow her own dreams. She’s taking a break with Iris and the band for a week or so and ends up nannying for Diego Garza. Diego is someone June has crushed on for a while, and now he’s a single dad of the most adorable four year old son.

Diego works with his dad as a mechanic, but still drums on the side when bands need him to fill in. He’s content as he can be with his life and he loves his son more than anything. Then June comes in and turns everything upside down. June is sunshine personified. She’s sweet, patient, and gentle with children and the perfect nanny. And Diego starts to fall.

I loved watching June and Diego together. They were truly opposites attract in the best way and June is by far my favorite heroine Julia Wolf has written. I was so dang proud of her by the end of this book and how she learned to stand up for herself. I loved her with Diego and also his son, Milo.

This book was perfect for me. It had the perfect amount of sweetness, fun, spice, and angst. The ending was so satisfying and I’m sad ‘The Seasons Change’ series is complete!

i love love love diego and june! single dad x nanny just always hits.

june’s the temporary nanny when diego un-retires from music for a week to help out june’s sister’s band. when he gets back to his usual job as a mechanic and his son breaks his foot in his garage, he knows he needs a full-time nanny for the summer and his son won’t stop asking about june.

their chemistry was so good and the way diego’s whole family just embraced june was so adorable to read. this is emotional, a little angsty, spicy, and sweet.

he’s a soft d0m aka he’s a little bossy in bed but mainly just wants to take care of her and could that be any more perfect?

this had one of my favorite hurt/comfort scenes EVER. he finds her sick in bed after he thought she went away for the weekend and spends the next week not leaving her side 😭

Absolutely beautiful story! Julia Wolf completely knocked it out of the park with Diego and June ♥️. Where Wave's Break is the perfect intersection of the Season's Change series and Unrequited series with a story that grabs your heart and gives it a good twist. June is the opposite of her super famous older sister. Quiet, a people pleaser, and naturally submissive. She finally makes a break from her overbearing father to play nanny for her sister's band when she comes in direct fire with her old crush who never knew she was alive, Diego. Diego ends up needing her as a nanny after the tour completed and June agrees, despite misgivings because of her attraction to him. Soon a relationship begins, but both have major baggage that may undermine their burgeoning relationship.

Ugh! I don't even know where to start with this one except to say FLOVED it! Great storyline that is the best culmination of two wonderful series. Ms. Wolf's character development is just phenomenal. You fall in love with these characters, you feel their pain. June is just a sweetheart, but I LOVE that she owns her own sexuality and knows exactly what her limits are - both sexually as well as emotionally. She may be quiet, but she's no pushover is this is further developed as the story goes along. Diego is just a mash up of all my favorite grumpy things, lol. Doting and overprotective, both of June and his son, and dominant. In bed and out 🥵. The chemistry between these two is super hot and spicy, but it's really their emotional development and the support they both provide each other that steals the show. Beautiful end to a beautiful series. Definite recommend!

3 🌟

I’m kind of shocked how high this is rated on here because the story was not 4.5 star worthy, and the relationship was not 3 star worthy.

I did enjoy the side characters. And honestly, I enjoyed the female mcs mother relationship to the male mcs son more than i enjoyed her romantic relationship to the male mc. But I’m not into that whole praise / good girl kink whatever was going on, idk not my vibes.

Also, the way he treated her was always so terrible to then be like “okay be a good girl” why would she want to, you’re an asshole?

You know a relationship isn’t good when at the end you’re hoping they just split instead of a “HEA” together.

🌶️🌶️🌶️

Julia Wolf did it again, she made me love another rockstar romance. It probably helped that he’s retired with four year old.

This was as adorable as it was mouth watering.

I was drawn in from the moment June fell to her knees for Diego. Maybe I would’ve liked a little more impact in the D/s but it was still pretty freaking yummy.

June is the perfect example of that old saying ‘a sheep in the streets and a tiger in the sheets.’ She was definitely full of surprises with how dirty she got down.

And Diego was that perfect growly, possessive alpha that we don’t want to admit we want but deep down he’s everything we’ve ever dreamed of.

But the star of the show was definitely Milo. That rambunctious, too curious for his own good kiddo won everyone’s heart including mine. The chemistry was almost better between him and June than Diego and June.

I will say I was annoyed with the last quarter breakup scenario. I wanted to smack Diego upside the head with a two by four to knock some sense into him. His dad and brother almost did a good enough job with their words.

A single, musician dad x nanny romance... this could have easily been a 5 star read. I'm a complete sucker for this trope.

AND YET.

Our wonderful FMC June caught the flu (I would argue it was the plague making a comeback with the way it was written) mid-way through this book.

The flu, I hear you ask? Yes, the flu.

And our wonderful MMC Diego, who I really enjoyed as a character, acted like June was minutes from dying. I love a good 'care for the sick person which naturally brings the characters closer together' moment but good lord... this felt way over the top. FOR THE FLU. THE FLU!!! Actually I don't think they ever said flu... it may have been the common cold!

I question whether this author has truly been sick because I was waiting for June to die, and the second half of this book would be about Diego's grief. I've never read something so dramatic to be quite honest and my eyes may be permanently stuck from the continuous eye-rolling this scene caused.

So for that scene alone, 4 stars (nearly 3 but feel this may be too dramatic from me).

I loved this, what a wonderful conclusion to this series!!!!! We finish our The Seasons Change journey with June, iris’s little sister. June is shy and quiet, but mighty. She’s lived her life under he father’s thumb, but that ends now. She quits her job and joins her sister in Spain where the band is performing, and June is set to be a nanny for Wren and Callum, and unbeknownst to her, Diego. Diego is standing in a drummer while Roddy recovers, and June is beside herself. She met the grumpy single dad once before, though he doesn’t remember. June is used to being overlooked, though it makes her sad that Diego is the one doing the overlooking. But then…he looks.

June continues nannying for him in Maryland, and loves looking after his sweet boy Milo. And I loved him too, JF knows how to write cute, believable kids and realistic parents and I loved reading those parts!!!! Her writing is so realistic and relatable! Anywho, June and Diego have my heart, with their grumpy/sunshine dynamic, how special June is with kids, and the PRAISE!!!! As someone who loves praise and hates degradation, I was INTO THIS. The ending was so lovely and beautiful, I had such a great time reading this series! Can’t wait to read more by her!

This was a really fun time.

If you loved Heartless, you might also enjoy this.

Grumpy/Sunshine. Ex-band member frummer. Single Dad/nanny

D/s relationship with some fun kinks that pop up. Praise. no degradation. Caretaking. and more. AND the heroine actually knew this about herself beforehand and it wasn't a teach me situation. Which I found very refreshing.

The 3rd act conflict kind of came in like a hammer though, no foreshadowing that I really saw.. BUT, the resolution was sweet and beautiful.

Where Waves Break is the 4th book in Julia Wolf's The Seasons Change rockstar romance series. Diego's book was long in the making since we first became aware of him in another of her series and I for one wanted to know everything about Unrequited's former drummer and wild-ish younger brother of Santiago Garza. There was much to unpack in this guy's tumultuous backstory and I was surprised to discover he had some sexy secret spice tucked away behind that grumpy exterior. I loved that Julia went there with Diego and then let that side of him come out to play. Gimme, gimme, gimme!

Diego is older, wiser and much more cautious with his heart now- most importantly, he's a father to a young, precocious son who lights up his entire world. He's got a passion for working on cars at his Dad's shop but can still be persuaded to play his drums, given the right opportunity. He's about to go on tour with the band, The Seasons Change, but needs a nanny to come along to care for his 4 year old son. Lead singer Iris comes to the rescue by offering up her highly qualified, younger sister June for the job.

Sweet, sunny June Adler tries to look on the bright side of everything. She's escaping a life she hates- getting far away from a bad situation by taking a chance on this job. Her new boss was and still is her secret crush but this moody man has no idea he's even met her before. Well, not yet anyway! They clashed like thunder and lightening right from the start- their differences, so apparent and against his better judgement, he's drawn to this beautiful, kind woman. He's a protective father who can't deny that June might be the best thing that ever happened to his boy, so this short nanny gig turns into a job for the summer. Let the fun begin as she moves away from all she knows and into the home of the man she could never forget, with a rambunctious little sweetheart she's already begun falling for.

Where Waves Break combines so well many of my favorite tropes in romance- rockstar, of course, was right at the top...age gap, opposites attract and a super sexy single dad with a hot, spicey side of woweeeeee! Add in forced proximity, amazing connected characters from this author's world, an excellent story and I was all in.

A big highlight for me was sweet, hilarious Camilo- Diego's upbeat, smart as a whip and intuitive little show stealer. He became a delightful addition to June's life, as did Diego's entire family. I cheered June on as she fought for control of her own destiny and those moments of brilliance as she goes for what will make her happiest in her life, career and in love. There were some forks their path and differences so big, they could be deal breakers, so it was all the more heartwarming to see how Julie Wolf brought it all together in the end. I'm not sure what's next for one of my go to authors, but I do know that I'll be here waiting for whatever comes along next.

I was given an early copy of this book to read and review. These are my honest thoughts and opinions after reading Where Waves Break.

'"What the hell was that?" he gritted out, stopping directly in front of me. All I could think was how sorry I was for disappointing him. I wanted to show him, make him understand the depth of my remorse. Tipping my head back, holding his molten eyes, I dropped to my knees on the floor in front of him.'

Woo! Pass the fan; it's hot in here! Where Waves Break just might be the spiciest book from Julia Wolf, ever.

We have:

A grumpy, slightly damaged, super sexy, dominant H ✔️

A sunshine, sweet, submissive h, who is also a woman who knows EXACTLY what she wants ✔️

Praise kink 🥵🔥 ✔️

Boss/employee relationship ✔

The sweetest 4-year-old ever

June and Diego's story has been a long time coming, and it definitely did not disappoint.

The final book in The Season's Change series brings together characters from Julia Wolf's Unrequited series and The Season's Change.

June Adler is the sweet, innocent younger sister of The Season's Change lead singer, Iris. June has long had a crush on former Unrequited drummer Diego Garza. Unfortunately, he doesn't even know she exists and doesn't remember meeting her.

When Diego joins The Season's Change for a few shows in Spain, June is put forward to be his 4-year-old son, Camilo's, nanny for a week. But when circumstances change and Diego needs help back in Baltimore for the summer, June agrees to take care of Milo. She can handle one summer, right?!

June and Diego are fire together. Their chemistry just jumps off the page. June might be quiet and shy, but she was also a confident woman in the bedroom and knew exactly what works for her and what doesn't.

Diego could read June like a book, and her willing submission to his praise and instruction led to some incredible scenes between them.

But this book is so much more than heat. There's heart and emotion. Diego's backstory is heartbreaking, and June has had a terrible time with her father, who has controlled her life and career.

I loved how they both loved and supported each other; their openness, honesty, and communication are fantastic. But when a difference of opinion and how they see their future arises; will they survive?

Those scenes were heart-wrenching, but June's inner strength shone through, and her unwillingness to change her desires just to keep a man was inspiring. She stuck to her wishes; she didn't give up part of herself to please a guy, despite how it broke her heart. She was the star of this book for me, personally.

I finished this book with a tear in my eye and a very happy heart. This book was the perfect end to a fantastic series. I feel like these characters are old friends, and I will miss them, but Julia Wolf has sent them off with the best conclusion possible - and I secretly hope she'll let us visit with these guys again in the future.

Absolutely superb! Don't hesitate to pick up this book; you won't regret it.

"When Milo was born, I got this pain in my chest when I looked at him. The only thing I can compare it to is a wave, swollen to the pinnacle. That split second before it crashes. The love I have for him, and now you, is where waves break. There's nothing bigger."

Ok this author and I have a roller coaster relationship atp 😂 I get the highs and the lows and this one was a high

Diego is an addict/ former addict who's content with his life with his son.he had it very rough early in life and then hooked up with another recovering addict and had a child. Unfortunately she spiraled and died from her addiction.
June is a sweetheart beloved by all and a pied piper of children. I too am a huge fan of June, she was equal parts confident and shy. I loved her relationship with Milo
I loved that Milo was a child and not a filler or plot device....his relationship with everyone around him was just the cutest.
Sexy times were hot 🔥
Third dct breakup man ugh!!! Could y'all quit it with this 🙄
All in all I really enjoyed this one

No cheating
H is a former addict and a single parent. He'd been celibate for quite a while
h experimented enough with sex clubs etc to know what she liked and didn't. She hadn't been with anyone in a little while
Slight slight OM drama

Can I give this infinity stars?

I loved this book with my whole entire heart. Julia has done what I never thought could be done... I have a new favorite Julia Wolf Hero... That seems absolutely INSANE to write. There is just something about Diego... Broody, broken, beautiful Diego. Big and gruff on the outside, but soft on the inside. Soft for his adorable son. Soft for his June. <3 I just absolutely loved their love. It was so big, I don't think he knew how to handle it. They were just absolutely everything I wished for them to be - and so much more. The relationship between June and little Camilo was the most precious thing.

This book moved me. I already can't wait to go in for another read. <3 It's bittersweet to see this series come to an end.

This book gave me the ick. I don’t know how it has so many five star ratings. He called her baby or baby girl constantly. She’s only four years younger than him and they were acting like there’s a big age gap. I liked how she had a good relationship with milo and Diego’s family. I thought there would be more about him playing the drums or her singing.

OMG, Diego and June’s story was soooo worth the wait. Where Waves Break was a beautiful and emotional story that is a fitting conclusion to The Seasons Change series. Diego and June plus little Milo are absolute perfection and I was addicted to their journey.

“I’d never be the same after Diego Garza. He’d changed me irrevocably.”

I loved June. While she outwardly seemed a bit shy and awkward, she was such a breath of fresh air when you got to know her. She had such a beautiful heart and soul that was so caring. She’s bright and spirited and so full of life. I loved how she slowly gathered the strength to take a stand against those who had hurt her in the past and how she felt safe to let her walls down with Diego and his precocious son.

“The only person in this world I love as big as you is my son.”

Diego was such a contradiction. He’s such a gentle giant underneath his grumpy façade. His protectiveness of those he loved was so beautiful. I loved how he took care of those around him and refused to let anyone harm them if he could help it. His love and possessiveness was swoonworthy and I couldn’t get enough of him.

“He chased the bad moments away and made me feel so incredibly safe.”

The chemistry between Diego and June was absolute fire. The push and pull was palpable and I loved watching their connection develop. I loved how they brought each other out of their shells and cherished the hearts they found underneath. The friendship and communication they shared was so emotional and just beautiful. I couldn’t get enough of their conversations because they were so real and both broke my heart as well as mended it.

“I’m here with you, Diego. This is you and me. Always, always.”

I devoured Where Waves Break and was so sad when it ended. Diego and June took me on a stunning, angsty, heartwarming rollercoaster ride that I never wanted to get off of. You could just feel their love and longing through the pages and their captivating story is to be cherished.

“What I’m telling you, June, is I want you. I want to take care of you, suck your pretty lips, and more than anything, I want to earn the right to ask you to get on your knees for me again.”

I really really wanted to LOVE this book, but something just wasn’t working for me. Don’t get me wrong I still enjoyed reading it, just not as much as I had hoped.

It has some of my favorite tropes
Single Dad ✔️
Nanny ✔️
Grumpy Sunshine ish ✔️

But even then I just didn’t really connect with the book or the characters.

I had only read 1 other book by Julia Wolf prior to this one, which I really enjoyed but didn’t obsess over (Sweet Like Poison). However, this one?? DIEGO GARZA, my friends. And the caretaking scene in this one was just TOP TIER. I loved the kinks and the communication in this book. This was just an all-around winner and now I need to read everything this author has ever written. 5 amazing stars!

This Book was breathtaking. I really loved every word and am going to be thinking about this one for a good long while. Honestly, this whole series is intoxicating. Each story uniquely their own. Each book is so dynamic you will not be disappointed. This book is a 5 star read but really I want to give the whole series 100 stars! This is a must read!

i love julia wolf. oh my goodness, oh my god.

i didn’t know how much i needed this book until now. this book reached into my reading slump and pulled me OUT.

i loved this book with my whole silly little heart 🩷 it was such a cute read, which i NEEDED. it was so quick and easy to read. honestly, this was just mindless reading. the book flowed so well and it was set at a nice pace if i’m being real.

anyways, time to dive 🌊 in.

i loved the characters so much. at the beginning of the book, we’re met with june (our fmc) and she was working for her 😒 ..father. however, she was leaving his workplace and never returning 😈 anyways, we go on a little journey with june, she goes on tour with her sister, blah blah blah and then ends up nannying for diego (😫), you can guess the rest from there! 🎀

june. my precious girl. i cannot tell you how much i adored this character. the words that came out of her mouth. phenomenal. the practice she wants to get into? utterly amazing, gobsmacking. this girl is the sweetest, i genuinely love her so much.

don’t even get me started on diego. this man. OH MY DAYS. 🩷🔥🎈 he was doing the absolute most. man was head over heels. the second i read about this man, i knew i was going to have a new book boyfriend because EXCUSE ME - HE BOUGHT HER A KETTLE. i know that sounds silly and basically the bare minimum but trust me on this, it’s a really cute gesture.

anyways, diego’s kid - camilo, was the cutest ☹️☹️ he said the silliest things and i couldn’t help but giggle. man was so silly. you know who i also loved - diego’s parents xx they were so… literally no words. i loved them.

now… there’s two reasons why this book didn’t get 5 stars and one of those reasons is completely my fault because i’m silly.

the first being that… when diego and june first started having interactions, diego was a little bit 🤔 odd. but its totally fine. i looked passed it.

the second being… i didn’t read the first 3 books in the series 😊 there were references in this book to the other books in the series and sometimes i was like Wha x but once again, that is completely my fault. i am silly. 🐎

overall, i will be reading from julia wolf 🐺 again.

4.5🌊/5

For fans of this author’s Unrequited and/or The Season’s Change rockstar romance series, you will not want to miss out on Where Waves Break! Even if you are not familiar with the series, you will enjoy this standalone, single dad romance as this author has a brilliant and entertaining writing style with likable and relatable characters that one cannot help, but love.

Diego is broody, rather gruff, and a little broken. He is also the talented former drummer of Unrequited. A dedicated father, I loved his fierce protective nature when it comes to his son and also when it comes to June. As his many layers were skillfully revealed, I came to love his character!

As for June, I have been anxious to see how things would play out ever since Falling in Reverse. She’s the sister of the lead singer of TSC and has attended many shows in the past. During this time, she developed a mad crush on Diego, but his failure to notice or even recognize her at first is an arrow through the heart. I admired her spirited nature, her massive heart, and the strong connection that she had with Milo (Diego’s 4 year-old son) and Diego. As with all of this author’s characters, June was so easy to identify with.

Both June’s and Diego’s pasts have shaped who they are today and how they approach life and relationships. They have flaws and make mistakes, but they also also grow throughout the story as individuals and as a remarkable couple. And they are just that - a remarkable couple with intense chemistry and the ability to bring out the best in and encourage each other.

Now let’s talk about Milo. I am not often a fan of single parent romances or kids in my books, but this spunky 4 year-old was such an adorable hoot and often stole the show. The story nor would Diego and June’s relationship be complete without this sweet, rambunctious little boy.

It is a tad bittersweet. I am sad that The Season’s Change series is over, but I am also thrilled that we got to have Diego and June’s story. These two characters (along with Milo!) captured my heart and I loved seeing some of the other characters from the previous books. The family dynamics and the camaraderie that is threaded throughout each series is something that I come to cherish while also find amusing. This author truly is talented and I cannot wait to see what she writes next!

I read an early version of this manuscript. I voluntarily leave this review and all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
