As a person that has had previous experience with buying and selling a home, I found myself gleaming with information that I was not aware of on how to maximize profits when buying or selling a home. I trusted that my real estate agent would have my interest in my mind, but I was very very wrong. Ignorance was really bliss but I would rather have my money in my pocket. I felt that this book was very thorough and gave me all that I needed in a very compact easy to read reference material that we all should read especially for new home buyers. Her advice was practical and rational in the approach of the information presented. It covered the mechanics of home valuation, the right pricing, preparing your home for a sale or what you need to prepare when buying your home, marketing and branding a home fundamental information on permits, inspections, and disclosures.

My only wish was that I had this resource years ago when I first started, but it is never too late. I highly recommend this for anyone planning to purchase real estate, for property owners, and anyone who wants to invest money in real estate.

This should be required reading for anyone selling their home. I have always trusted my RE agents to guide me on the best things to replace, fix up in my home for resale. I have wasted a lot of money, suffered frustration with unrealistic offers and hated almost every minute. Seriously, selling your home is a huge thing that most of us are uneducated on the details.
This book explains the details, how to value your home, what to ask for it and what offers to accept. That right there is a major question that Ms McLaughlin guides you through in a straight forward way, minus emotion. She goes over staging, and how to set the stage for someone to see themselves living there. Permits, inspections and what to disclose, all covered.
I learned so much from this book and I’ve sold 4 homes, you’d think I should have known these from experience. I have had good and not so good agents. I’ve trusted the wrong people blindly and got burned. If you are selling your home, read this book, know what is happening at least so you can make a educated judgement when an agent says you should do…..

Are you in the market for a new home? My fiancé and I will be looking to purchase our first home together in the next couple years, and being that we are both first time home buyers we can use all the help we can get! So I was super excited when @suzyapprovedbooktours @mangopublishing and @tracyamclaughlin sent me a copy of Real Estate Rescue!

This book has really helped us better understand the Real Estate Market and has equipped us with the wisdom we need as we begin to navigate this important purchase. We definitely are marking sections as we go and will refer back to this book many times in our home buying process.

Real Estate Rescue is out today!

Chapter by chapter, Real Estate Rescue with Tracy McLaughlin covers each critical step in the home sale and acquisition process, explaining it in depth. Along the way, McLaughlin delves into the psychology of homebuyers and sellers, calling attention to common emotional traps. By following her practical and rational approach, prospective home buyers and sellers will gain an edge on mastering:

• The mechanics and art of home valuation—which has nothing to do with what you paid for your home, what you need to net from the sale, or how attached you feel.

• Pricing right—with the aim of getting the highest offer without letting your home be a high-priced bread maker.

• Preparing a home for sale—from timing the market to staging a home for buyers to see themselves living in, with design tips and insights into environmental suggestions.

• Marketing and branding a home—using the power of storytelling to engage buyers while keeping the seller’s emotions in check.

• Fundamental matters of permits, inspections, and full disclosure, plus a list of the critical things buyers should be aware of and cautious about, yet often overlook.

Do you have any home renovations in the works? One of the biggest things I’ve been contemplating is built-in bookcases. I actually wanted to get my husband to start this project ever since we moved in but as soon as I got him to agree to it, I started second guessing the move. I don’t *think* we’ll be buying another house because I truly love our home but you can’t predict life. So, I started thinking about resale value and began doing some research online. That was a huge rabbit hole! Luckily, I got this book just in time to help me out. The book has SO much information about real estate and it’s a must buy if you’re buying a home, selling a home or simply thinking about renovating or adding something, like me. I didn’t read it cover to cover. I read it sections and skipped around a lot but I did end up finishing the book. I learned so much I wish I had known before we bought our home and even some fun facts I didn’t know I wanted to know. I’m really, REALLY glad I read this because I nixed the idea for built-ins. The way I wanted them was something that I don’t think would work for someone else down the line if we sold. I’ll still be getting wall-to-wall shelves but it’ll be something we can take with us instead.

Tracy McLaughlin is a very successful real estate agent in Marin County CA, selling multi million dollar houses all the time. She shares her knowledge on how to not leave money on the table when you buy or sell a house. She shares tips on how to find the best agent and what things take a mediocre house to the next level. Speaking of next level, while I thought the information was great, it's a hard sell for me to believe that spending the kind of money she's talking about will work on my little house and area. Also, if you're expecting a design idea book on what you should update your house to, this is not that book. You'll need to reach out to a local agent for ideas about that. Tracy definitely tries to sell the reader on the necessity of real estate agents, especially herself. She's not exactly complimentary of several she talks about though. Overall, good information but a bit braggadocious.

Thank you Net Galley for the opportunity to review this book for my honest opinion.

WOW! Another non fiction book that I can say was really good! Tracy McLaughlin has created a wonderful read that will be beneficial to anyone who is thinking about, or who is ready to, sell their home. It’s really interesting!

This is a book that some of my family could have benefited from many moons ago when When they were moving. This book could have helped them maximize the amount they sold for. With each page, McLaughlin tells the readers(ultimately, the sellers!) the best ways to stage the home to draw in potential buyers. She shows the sellers the best ways to maximize that profit. Keeping up with any renovations to make the house stay up with the current market values, making your yard look glorious, and so much more!

If you are thinking of selling your home this would be an interesting read for you! If you know someone who is thinking of selling their home, it would be a great gift for them! Definitely a page turner with lots of insight! McLaughlin’s book is definitely one I’ll keep and turn to when and if I sell my own home so I can get the most for my house! Fantastic job!

The book is intended to create disruption in an industry that has never had true regulation. Agents are basically in the money management business, and yet we are not held to the same standards as stockbrokers, money managers, managers of funds, etc. All of those other industries require art least 4 year degrees (most have also attended graduate school) and then are required to pass tests like the Series 7 and other rigorous exams to work in their fields. They then have constant checks and balances in what they can or cannot say; how they can advise their clients etc. The real estate industry manages a far bigger asset class across the united states, and yet the standards are abysmal, and nobody is cross checking or holding agents accountable for what they tell a seller or buyer. That starts the “marriage of deterioration” of the asset. An agent can prey on the vulnerability of people feeling their home is worth more than it really is by agreeing with them to get the business. Same applies to buyers. They may be selecting the “wrong” house for them, but an agent needs the commission, so will tell them what they want to hear so the deal closes. The problem is that neither the seller or buyer draw a line back to the agent. When they go to sell, they think that the market was bad and that is the reason that they never did better. This was really my motivation for writing this book.

Every grownup should read this piece on the realities of buying & selling real estate so they don't leave money on the table.

Each state has its own rules when it comes to real estate. It’s up to buyers and sellers to make sure they know the rules to stay out of legal and financial trouble. Or, if they’re not interested, they can hire a real estate agent or real estate lawyer to navigate the particulars.

I found the intricacies of buying, owning, and selling so fascinating, I thought I should educate myself more so that I could begin to make wise investments for rentals for a passive income.

So I asked around, signed up for independent classes, and dedicated a few months to completing the pre-licensing and a few more to getting my post licensing requirements done before the deadline so I could become a full broker quickly as I dealt with some things that needed my immediate attention first.

Since I hadn’t planned on becoming a residential sales agent, just a wiser investor, I took my time. Eventually, I found the right firm that got me excited about selling. I signed on, and began the actual, real-life, on-the-job training that classes tried to prepare us for. Nothing could have prepared me for the actualities. The chasm between book learning and actual implementation was wider than I liked.

I had been warned. Recent changes had cracked down on the industry, making the already-hard job of obtaining a real estate license in North Carolina, one of the more stricter states, even harder.

I thought I knew a lot; after licensing, I know how much I didn’t know. I understand why agents get paid what they do. Much to my surprise, they net much less than I suspected, once everyone get their piece of the cut.

I also understand it from the client side. We had bought and sold our homes. Some using an agent; one not.

THIS IS THE BOOK I WISH I’D HAD FROM THE BEGINNING of my homebuying, selling, and before launching my real estate sales career.

This is the book I wish I’d had when I started the heels-on-the-ground training to use all the software and obtain clients. This is the book I wish I’d had when I bugged my colleagues and mentors for explanations. This is the book that would have saved me lots of independent study.

Tracy McLaughlin is a great mentor for everyday folk and for professional. She’ll help you understand the money and the emotional side of buying and selling real estate. So if you own or plan to buy, you want this book by your side. It’s a quick, thorough look into the current real estate profession. It will save you money and many anxious, sleepless nights.

I HIGHLY recommend this book.

Linda's Book Obsession Reviews "Real Estate Rescue" by Tracy McLaughlin, Mango April 2020

Tracy McLaughlin and Kevin Lake, Authors of "Real Estate Rescue have written an intriguing, informative and helpful book. This is really a great "how-to" book, providing not only statistics but pictures and examples of ways to sell your home, and buy your new home. The author/s mention that updating your home every 10 years to meet the market's demand is beneficial. Most new younger buyers want the keys and want to move in. Today's buyers are not usually interested in renovating.

There are statistics of the neighborhood, and the housing market that most people have access to, but the author/s feel that the professional expertise is key in getting a return and profit. Important is staging, repairing, and renovating, the inside structure, doorway, and landscape.

Recently, my husband and I have thought about selling our home, so I was really drawn to many of the suggestions and ideas in this book.  Realistically some of the suggestions are not as practical as I wish they could be. For one, I have no control that the next-door house was a foreclosure, and the corner house sold way under market value because of a divorce situation, on a cul-de-sac of 7 homes which would affect pricing my home. There have also been necessary things that "pop" up that need attending too,  rather than cosmetically spending the money to update other things I would like to have done. In other words, I have had to spend money on things that were necessary to do, rather than what I have wished to do.

I would recommend this helpful and interesting book for those to get an idea of what the market is like.

I admit I thought a book about real estate might be a dry read, but I also admit that I was wrong! This is a book I wish I had found years ago.

Tracy Mclaughlin is a real estate professional as well, as a very talented writer, and I was drawn in from page one. Using a combination of her years of experience and research from many academic fields, Mclaughlin teaches the reader what a good real estate agent should be doing for them, how to try to avoid losing money in buying or selling a home, and common errors that are made that result in real estate financial losses. She also touches on what owners should consider when making improvements to their homes which is helpful for people who know they will ultimately, but not immediately need to sell. It presents a wonderful information about protecting a very expensive asset.

There are before and after photos that provide examples of staging a home for sale. I have a very old Kindle so unfortunately I only got tiny black and white photos, but from the descriptions I could still follow what she was saying, and for owners of newer kindles I think it will be a very useful touch.

I received this book as a goodreads giveaway which does not influence my review in any way.

Thank you to Netgalley for the e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was super informative and not the typical real estate book. Tracy Mclaughlin (the author) gives her personal tips and tricks of the trade. This book in informative in all aspects of the buying process and would be helpful to prospective sellers, or buyers.

I really enjoyed that Tracy used personal and fictional examples in this book.

One thing that didn't quite meet my expectations was that this book is very geared toward the Californian housing market (which is fair because that is where Tracy is a real-estate agent) - but some of the advice and sale-tactics wouldn't be relevant at all in Ohio. It's not everyday that you are selling houses for multiple millions and houses with a view, etc.

Overall, I thought this book was intelligently written with a lot of great insight to the real-estate market and how to maximize your home's value.

*All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I agree with the other reviewers comments that it is a useful guide for buyers and sellers, easy to understand, and has some nice before & after color illustrations. Her predictions about the future of her industry and the impact of technology are interesting, too. Something nobody has mentioned, however, is that McLaughlin sells multi-million dollar homes and the prepping for sale she recommends often runs $250K and up! She is one of the top realtors in the country. Owners of more modest homes without access to an agent of this caliber should be cautious about making expensive last-minute improvements that will waste time and may not recoup the investment. Few major home improvement projects return 100% of money spend according to most home magazines, never mind McLaughlin's claims of making hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional profit. Most libraries can skip purchasing this book.

This is the first book I've ever read on real estate as I always thought my agent knew everything that was needed to know. This book is very informative for any one selling or buying a home. It is explained in such a way that it is very easy to understand and can be very useful for any buyer, seller and the agent. As my husband and I are currently in the market to buy our next home and sell our current home, this book gave me a lot to think about. Including how knowledgeable, or not our agent is. It was very interesting to read about how real estate was handled in the past, how it is now handled and the future. I would love to find a realtor that has the experience and knowledge that Tracy McLaughlin has. I highly recommend this book to anyone in the market, whether a seller, buyer or representative. Brokers and agents could learn a thing or two from this book. I received this book for free from the author and her publisher in exchange for an honest review.

For newbies and experienced hands, her work is comprehensive, essential, and powerful information delivered with flair and humor. Being an Insurance Agent as my full time job I see many homes daily that people are looking to insure whether it is a new purchase or just looking for better rates. My favorite part of the job is getting too see those homes inside and out and all the different architecture and designs. I’ve always been interested in the interior design element of homes and always up for a remodel project myself. This book definitely caught my attention just by the cover itself, "how America leaves billions behind in residential real estate and how to maximize your home’s value." With this book covering topics like valuing a home, getting the highest offer, preparing for sale, finding a real estate agent, and offering lots of before and after photos to maximize that value, you come out of this book with lots of knowledge of the do’s and dont’s of real estate whether you are buying or selling and what to expect.

As a homeowner, it was eye opening to gain the knowledge on what to do to prepare and stuff we would want to upgrade and fix to maximize the value of our home when it does come time to sell.

I definitely recommend to anyone that will be in the process of buying or selling in the near future, lots of great information. Available in May.

It may sound crazy but if my husband and I are bored, we sometimes go to open houses. You go in, and you can see how other people live. How do they decorate their spaces? Can I get any ideas for my home? It’s like looking at Better Homes and Gardens in real life! Of course you can get into trouble and right away start envisioning yourself cooking in their kitchen or watching tv in their family room!

If you’re thinking of buying or selling a home or helping someone who’s in the process, Real Estate Rescue is a book that will help! Described as the real estate for dummies book, author Tracy McLaughlin gives us easy to read detailed guidelines for how to save money and make money. There’s advice for finding the right real estate agent. You’ll learn the mechanics and art of home valuation and what buyers want. She’ll explain how to understand appraisals and how to price your home or talk a seller down to the right price for your purchase.

Featured is a section on preparing a home for sale. Staging your home, knowing the market, and how buyers respond to environmental suggestions. Tracy’s knowledge is valuable as she is the #1 producer of real estate sales in Marin County, CA. She’s ranked 51st out of 2 million licensed real estate agents in the United States by the Wall Street Journal.

I loved the before/after photos of homes she has listed. It’s amazing to see the refreshing changes.

Real Estate Rescue
By Tracy McLaughlin

This book provides a wealth of information for anyone thinking of or in the current process of selling their home.

It taught me a plethora of information and resources that were available that I wouldn’t have thought or known of on my own to maximize my profits and increase the value in my home to its upmost potential.

Also, if you are in the buyer’s market looking to get the best value for your money. This will definitely be my go to guide that ensure I don’t miss a beat or get taken without having to be a professional myself.

You will learn all the terminology that is used in both buying and selling and understand the process behind each and every step that may normally overwhelm you. She breaks it down to make it comfortable and makes you feel more educated on making informed decisions on your own behalf.

I highly recommend this over any book I’ve read to date; especially when you’ve made the decision to buy or sell.
