There wasn't much of this book I liked, I'm sorry to say. I liked the forbidden aspect of this teacher/student secret relationship, but it felt too fake for anything else other than an adult film, of some sort. Largely, this novella gave me the ick, and that was a bummer. There are no characters I consider a favorite; they all suck... in many ways. The characters, their chemistry, and the scenes they were in all felt too fake to ever be a reality other than in an adult film. Looking up reviews for this book, it's so-so both ways, but a lot of people besides me mention how something like this wouldn't happen even in some alternate reality. My favorite part of the book was the ending, because I knew long before I'd never read a book as badly-written as this ever again. No one was forcing me to read this novel except myself, and the main thing I disliked most about this novel was how clear it was to me that a man wrote this. No woman would describe a female teacher like that, nor go against traditional school dress code, which could be hotter in a scene of removal instead of Ms. Perkins' undressing from a very-not-teacher-like strapless top. If I could drink a potion that would allow me to forget this whole book, I'd drink it right now. The only scene that I felt I could appreciate as a reader of the weirdest smut out there in the world was the MFMM scene at the end, because I can enjoy a scene like that from a distance because it's so far from my reality that I can enjoy it without having it happen for me, but still, it didn't feel real, and none of the characters had any connection; their static electricity was exclusive to the physical sort alone, which is something I dislike in any and all romance novels I read. When I read a dark romance novel, yes, I want there to be smut and totally outrageous steam that gets me higher than Cloud Nine, but I like when there's something more to the characters' connection than just physical chemistry. I didn't get that here, so in that regard, this book was a major letdown for me... Even though this novel is less than fifty pages, I wouldn't consider it a page-turner. Even though it didn't take long to finish, I felt bored by the novel in most of the time I read this... There was no cliffhanger ending to speak of, nor an ending I truly liked. Wannabe-antihero Cassius never developed a true relationship with Ms. Perkins, nor proposed marriage or got her pregnant. There was a missed opportunity, because that could've been the saving grace of the novel, but it just... didn't happen. If I was the author of Ms. Perkins instead of Ian Snow, there's actually a lot I'd change to make this novella better-- ~ I'd make the novel longer and give real effort to make the novel a true page-turner. ~ I'd have a scene where Ms. Perkins reveal to Cassius that she's inexperienced in BDSM but wants to explore having a polyamorous relationship. ~ I'd write a scene or two of Ms. Perkins and Cassius sneaking around without ever getting caught, and then I'd have Ms. Perkins take Cassius home. ~ I'd get creative with the smutty scenes involving Ms. Perkins, Cassius, and his few friends from school, but I'd need to do "research" beforehand for "inspiration." ~ Finally, I'd add an epilogue where Cassius graduates, then proposes to a pregnant Ms. Perkins, and then have all characters deserving get their happily ever after. As a reader who is very familiar with the forbidden teacher/student relationship subgenre under the dark romance umbrella, I can say with complete certainty that this novel falls short in so many regards that it isn't even funny anymore; it's just sad. At best, this is a 2/5 stars rating, and that's being generous. I wish more happened in this book, but it didn't, and even though I tried to appreciate this quick-read fiction for what it was, I have a feeling I'll completely have forgotten about this book in a matter of days... I felt this book was subpar and not something meant for everyone, but if you're the kind of reader who enjoys reading books under the umbrella of "novels so bad they're good," then give this book a try, because that's exactly what it is! This book wasn't for me, and I don't plan on reading any other Ian Snow novels; that's fine by me.
I would have given iit 5 stars, but the story, even though it was super hot and extremely erotic, it was unbelievable. I'm sure if the teacher had any sense, she would never have gone through it giving it up to not one, not two, but three students and ended up air tight and after that, went for another DP and again in the bathroom. I loved the story, but it could never happen.
