My Tales of Ardonna series mixes fantasy with familiar. It covers things I love: nature (particularly trees,) wildlife (animals I knew as a zookeeper have prime roles,) anthropology and psychology (enough to go into debt for degrees,) family (of the heart and/or blood variety,) and friends who accept your quirks. I also enjoy a good romance, but these are subplots and leave a lot to the imagination.
I took a forest ecology class in graduate school. At the end of the semester, I remember thinking to myself, "I will never look at the woods the same way again."
I thought the same thing at the end of this book.
The world of Ardonna is full of magic—ancient, knowing, and entrancing. In this story where trees are friends and there's more to nature than meets the eye, Rowena goes in search of a better life. The power she gains along the way helps her achieve that, and also brings her true friends and allies.
But some people are more than they appear to be, and not everyone has her best interests at heart. Will she finally find a way to live the life she's always dreamed of, or will everything she's worked for come crashing down around her?
Woodspell was a delightfully magical read, and I look forward to continuing the adventure in book two!
This book surprised me, taking me in directions I didn't expect. I enjoyed exploring the world it is set in and meeting the characters that live there. Looking forward to reading the next 2 volumes.
Wonderful book. The characters are really well-developed and interesting. The world is quite unique and I loved the interaction between humans and trees. A fantasy world that feels very real.
