Himari agrees to be the manager of Izumi’s band, Lorelei. She’s excited to take up the new challenge—but not everyone is so thrilled. Yori knows she should be happy to see Himari embracing new opportunities, but she can’t help but worry: What if Himari cheers for Lorelei instead of SSGIRLS at the culture fest? What if her new responsibilities start to take over her life? What if she likes Izumi’s singing better than Yori’s? The fact that it’s going to be summer break and they won’t see each other every day only makes her feel worse. Not to mention that Yori wants to move their relationship beyond holding hands, but she has no idea if Himari feels the same way… As Himari throws herself into her new role, blissfully unaware of her girlfriend’s inner turmoil, the two girls will have to discover how you do love after love at first sight.
Himari is now managing the rival band to the one that her girlfriend, Yori, is in. This divides a lot of her time, but how about her allegiances? As the summer break wears on, so do the tensions, and this might be a problem that not even yukatas can solve…
Well, it’s a whole volume of getting back to our leads, with the focus shifting nicely back to them at their cutest. After a volume where Yori was pretty sidelined it’s nice to see her back to the fore, although the circumstances could be better.
Shiho still sucks. Our usual bonus manga reveal suggests that her actual reason for breaking with the band was, indeed, heartbreak that she couldn’t deal with compounded by Aki’s growing fondness for Yori. It’s hardly the most shattering revelation, but it’s nice to see that it’s (probably) not strictly malicious.
It’s not quite overtly suggested that her interest in Himari is based out of petty revenge, Himari fits in with the other band really well, but given Shiho’s nature I wouldn’t put it past her. I did like the point raised that she is just as hard on herself as she is everybody else. However, she still sucks. While I don’t love her, Shiho is definitely the type of person who attracts some and repels others and that’s not something we see enough of in manga.
But that’s all stuff that we know, less so Yori, who succumbs to the relatable paranoia when your new partner who you love to bits is spending time with somebody else and they get along really, really well. Despite rallying here and there, Yori is ultimately overcome by her feelings of potential inadequacy and missing Himari.
What I really like here is that even amidst this whole ‘band competition over Himari’ plot and coupled with Yori’s issues, the manga reminds us that amidst all of this trouble brewing… Himari’s a human being. That might sound trite, but the story rightly pivots on the point that she’s a human being and has thoughts and feelings of her own. Yes, Himari is probably too nice for her own good (almost certainly so), but the love she’s discovered in Yori is not so shallow that it could be tossed aside just like that.
And, just like that, this competition is completely defanged of the rather unfortunate feeling it had of being a competition for Himari’s heart. It really seemed like it was going there, but I love the way it just pulled back to show how inconsequential it is to the feelings between our leads. Shame it caused so much friction getting there (Yori really puts herself through fifteen flavours of hell).
Between these points we get a lot of dating, which it’s great to see back in the series. As usual, I have covered the broad strokes of where we go, but there’s a lot more nuance to all this. As fluffy as this can get sometimes, and good lord the fluff when they’re dating, it knows how to do the drama really well, even if Himari’s incredible earnestness does tend to uncomplicate things rather quickly.
4 stars - always a delight and I was especially pleased to see how it treated the band competition, taking it in a direction that I think was far healthier and realistic that acknowledged Himari as something more than a prize. It has weight in the narrative, but it’s not some make or break point for these two, as it should be.
August 2023. A sweet and charming Girls’ Love manga about high schoolers, between a quiet girl in a band and her biggest fan.
This series continues to be adorable and sweet, really enjoy it. I really love that there are 0 male characters and it’s a world with no homophobia; there’s no part of the story where characters act as if being in love with a girl is something someone would react poorly to or have to be prepared for.
Borrowed from the library, saw it in the “new arrivals” section, didn’t even realize volume 6 was out 🙂
this is THE FIRST TIME i cried while reading a manga. the character that i thought has NOTHING in common with me, put the thoughts i have ALL THE TIME in just few sentences. i love this comic, it makes me feel understood.
I liked that this volume showed the characters having honest discussions, dealing with real issues, and eventually talking through their feelings. Yori's inner turmoil and jealousy at her girlfriend now managing a rival band manifesting in her coming across as cold to Himari felt real to how a teenager would react in this situation. I liked the fact that she knew she was being petty but couldn't help herself, and when she finally does tell Himari about it and Himari offers to stop managing Loralei, Yori feels even worse. She doesn't want to hold Himari back from doing the things that she likes but she also can't stop feeling this way.
I don't know what's going to happen with Izumi, and if the reveal as to why she quit SSGirls and has some big hate boner for Yori is because she's actually in love with Aki?? Who the heck knows. Secrets are afoot.
i don't really like how Hima being the other girls band manager was handled here, mostly because i am surprised she can be on such friendly terms with Shiho after seeing how nasty she acts towards her literal girlfriend and the rest of her friends :/ i get that she's naive and wants everyone to get along but come onnnn. just because Shiho has always been friendly to her doesn't mean she should just be automatically absolved (and i like Shiho! she's one of the most intriguing characters so far and i LOVE her backstory and her motivations)
i do, however, like the communication and openness between our two main characters. ALSO WAAA THEIR FIRST KISS ^_^
obsessed with how both Yori and Shiho cling to music so much that it becomes their main source of self-pride. just compare how worried and distraught Yori acts at the idea that Shiho is a better singer than her to how Shiho acted during the flashback on ch 25 when she realized that her friend was a better violinist than her. they have oppposite results of course, Yori tends to be brought down by it to the point of spiraling pretty badly, but with Shiho it mostly happens to fuel her rage more than anything else, but yeah. *clenches fist* i LOVE narrative foils so much <3

Man, this series. Talk about love at first sight. We need more LGBTQ+ manga like this! Especially between two women! What a breath of fresh air in a sea of manga aimed at sexualizing wlw for the male gaze. None of that nonsense to be found here. These six volumes have stolen my heart with their beautiful artwork, kind, swoon-worthy, deciphering queer characters, and emphasis on the communication at the heart of maintaining every kind of relationship—even the one you hold with yourself. I cannot wait for the next two volumes to arrive in the U.S. this spring, and I’m even more stoked for the anime to premiere!!!
again, i just LOVE how this story handles conflict in a relationship!!!!! a jealousy plotline COULD be a really annoying or Just Bad thing to introduce, but the way this manga does it. works???
like it’s something himari’s friend tells her to ask yori about, so she does (i was worried she’d. like. forget?) and yori lies!! so it doesn’t make himari seem like an idiot or like she’s not emotionally intelligent/doesn’t pick up on things (which she is and does!!!!)
and they resolve it by. communicating? like you do in a healthy relationship?? and when it comes up later, you see that this helped?????? oughhh i just love them tbh
Jealousy rears its ugly head in this volume. It's presented on a very relatable level. Himari helps out the rival band in hopes it will smooth things over with everyone but it just makes Yori jealous that her girlfriend is off things for others instead of spending time with her. Also, the intent to have a special first kiss is a cute concept in stories but feels out of place a bit reading here. Especially with the compliment from the previous volumes that the series was legitimately having a simple but believeable motivation for a character.
Another great one for my monthly dose of youthful feelings! More of the same-ish flavour of last volume's---jealousy. But this time it's more intense because Yori has to find a name for her feeling without letting it consume her. It doesn't help that her girlfriend is the dense kind who's nice to everyone, so...
And where the volume ends???? Classic cliff-hanger which I am not mad about.
Holy shit this series is so good. This was such a good volume. The emotion, the drama, AH. Its chefs kiss. I was like screaming internally for these characters, it was so good. I love how the romance is written, using fluff and angst properly. Also the art in this really ads to the story, the expressions are great.
Such drama. Such cuteness. I love that Yori is opening up to her feelings and insecurities now that Himari is managing the rival band. 3 more months till the next volume. WHATEVER SHALL I DO UNTIL IT COMES OUT?!?!??!!
4 stars. I really liked this volume. We got more of our main couple Yori and Kino which was lovely. I liked seeing them work through things, especially with Yori feeling insecure about Kino managing their rival band. I can’t wait for volume 7!
This volume was actually really good!! It saved the series actually lol. Also, the character development was really nice as well. Major breakthroughs for sure between the two. Sweet moments even. I didn't realize that the series was still being translated, but nonetheless I'm super excited to read the rest once it's available.

Once again my main takeaway is I LOVE THAT THESE GIRLS COMMUNICATE. There was a bit more angst in this volume than others but it still got to a place where Hima and Yori were being honest with each other about their feelings and smoothing things out together and I’m so here for it.
This is easily becoming a favorite series. This has everything and shojo should have. I absolutely adore Yori's and Himari's relationship and love it when a couple can communicate and be honest with their feelings.
