A professional manga creator and her slacker girlfriend try to relieve the pressures of adulthood by finding joy in the little things in life–and each other!
Two young women—one an overworked manga artist, the other a jobless slacker—try to escape the realities of adulthood. Whether it’s by going into debt while splurging on an epic meal or taking an impromptu trip, “Kouhai” and “Senpai” find a way to make the most of their days! Kick back and relax with this adorable yuri comedy!
Kohai is a mangaka who doesn’t have any time to relax. Her partner, Senpai, is jobless and has nothing but. This is the story of two partners goofing around when they should be working and having the time of their lives as a result.
This probably tops even The Two of Them Are Pretty Much Like This for utterly inessential but charming yuri fluff. Especially since that manga took a turn to the dramatic last volume (to excellent effect, I might add).
The stakes, such as they are, involve Kohai’s perpetually encroaching deadline and Senpai’s dogged pursuit of getting her to goof off. The romance is practically nonexistent, but has the occasionally lovely moment of ‘we’re just ridiculously comfortable around one another’ that a tightly bonded pair have.
Thus the two of them go all over the place in a series of travelogues that often feature some pretty solid jokes. The first couple chapters in particular end on excellent punchlines - I’ll single out the very first chapter where the phone business pays off note perfect at the conclusion - but there’s a better consistency than most straight comedies (pardon the expression) throughout.
It’s as warm and enjoyable as it is absolutely inessential. There are bursts of clever that make the whole thing worthwhile, along with that heartfelt sentiment breaking through (when they clean Kohai’s old room, Senpai’s declaration at the end is really sweet).
No driving plot, just two partners having a fun time occasionally battered by job stress. Its weakness is its strength and if you want something that’s a taut drama or searing examination of feelings, don’t even bother. But this is a great book to relax with - it gets its vibe across and then some.
3.5 stars - I think it’s better than the average, slight as it is, but there’s also no way I’d give anything this lightweight a full 4 stars. Definitely recommended if it sounds at all appealing.
One of those cozy, slice-of-life manga that will either make you smile the whole time or leave you yawning all the way through. It was a yawn for me, especially since the premise is built around procrastination.
Two twentysomething roommates hang out in their apartment. One is unemployed while the other is a manga creator. Whenever editorial deadlines loom, they come up with things to do or places to visit to give the cartoonist a chance to recharge before buckling down.
The back cover notes that this is from the yuri genre, but it must be a slow ramp up to that as there is barely any trace of romantic interest visible in this first volume.
Too subdued for me right now. I'm passing on the rest of this series.

This was such a fun, adorable yuri comedy. There's mostly laughs with a few tender moments laced throughout. It's a very light yuri, as in if you aren't familiar with the genre or don't notice the little on page nods to yuri, this could be seen as just two really good friends living their lives together. Do I wish it was a bit more overt? Maybe, but it's also nice just to see a relationship playing out in the day to day moments. I'll definitely be reading more.
2.5⭐ rounded up. I'm not a huge slice of life can so honestly 3 was as high as it could get anyway. This is cute though so if you do like slice of life kinda plotless vignettes then this would be a good read
Futari Escape is a wholesome, heartwarming, and uplifting story. If you want something to cheer you up or fill you with positivity, this is a series to pick up. While the romance isn't as overt as in other stories, the relationship between the two main characters had me going "awww" as I read it. I highly recommend this series. 💖
A delightful calm slice of life manga about two girls (best friends and roommates) filled with drinks, adventure, and some more reality escaping.
I just had to buy this one for myself for my birthday! It sounded like such a fun manga and the cover was so sweet! This is about two girls who go through daily life (one mangaka and the other jobless (not sure if she is just slacking or is trying to get a job) and sometimes go on adventures or just get plain drunk when they need an escape! I didn’t blame them, adulthood sucks at times and drinking some beer or going to a new place is just the thing!
I loved seeing them go on trips, from dinosaur museums to taking the train to the very last station and more! I just wished I could step inside the manga and be part of their journeys. Especially that dinosaur museum, I NEED!
I loved these girls and I loved that they were such good friends. They had some great banter, they were supportive of each other, they motivated each other, and they were just so much fun and quite often relatable.
Though, haha, that mangaka girl really needs to be more careful about drinking giving what she does when she is drunk and almost passing out. XD And maybe not give out the fee she just got for her manuscript on everything and all.
Oh, oh, and I loved that backstory and see how these two girls met up! Well, at least a glimpse to it, as I am sure there is more to come!
The art was wonderful, I really enjoyed the style, there were some really pretty moments!
All in all, I laughed, I relaxed, I enjoyed, I nodded along as I was agreeing on escaping life. And I would recommend this one~
Picked this up cuz the cover looked cute, but honestly it was kind of slow at times, and as great as that is for me, I wish there was a little bit more of an umpth but there wasn’t. It was cute and wholesome and I did really like that but that’s it. It was relatable, is the sense of it was for sure me and my best friend but that’s all really. When the next one comes out I’ll probably read it. It’s cute
This was cute, though not terribly complex. I'd be interested in seeing some more character development in future installations. For now, it's a quick enough read that I would recommend checking it out if you like Slice of Life and couples comics.
This was so cute!! I'm not going to lie, it was a bit of a cover buy and I've had some trouble with Slice of Life recently that made me worry I wasn't going to enjoy this as much as I'd hoped, but I had a really good time, the focus on looking after yourself by giving yourself time to slack off and run away from everything is really cool to see, especially for artists. Also these characters are so cute, I love their dynamic and their relationship <3
This was cute a light. We have a struggling Mangaka and her stay at home unemployed sempai that have adventures including over indulging on meals and taking vacations. There were some funny moments and the art was pretty good. This is a nice read when you're in the mood for something super light and a change of pace.
I tagged this as romance, but it's more romantic than romance and even then it's a wink and a nudge that this is a couple. I might be missing something in the translation, so apologies if I'm reading things wrong. All that aside, this comic is very sweet and a little silly. If you find yourself a little overworked and burned out, you'll probably enjoy this title.
3.5* This was very cute and relatable. Escaping from work and adulthood is necessary sometimes. I know it was supposed to be a light yuri but it was so light that i don’t even know if they were actually partners. I think a little more romance added in to their adventures would’ve made it better for me personally. Still enjoyed it though.
Sweet slice of life, mostly funny. Sometimes the characters drop a serious line but that, too, is often put in a joke context. There are several hints that the two women have feelings beyond friendship for each other so I hope this wont be just queerbaiting in the following volumes.
Light-hearted slice-of-life about two roommates with gay subtext (At least that's how the German translation frames their relationship). And the cover art is really pretty imo.
