The first half of this book was very hard for me to truly get into. There where a lot of things that bugged me with the writing. I don’t read a lot of third person, so maybe that was one of the things that made it hard to read? I also found there was a lot of descriptions, even on mundane things and repetitive description whenever something is mentioned like “fire engine red” whenever MC’s hair is mentioned, or Jacobs eyebrow “well-groomed”, and Gage’s “mint green eyes”. I don’t think we need to hear those same things over and over whenever one of the characters hair/ eyes etc. is brought up. Also, discrepancies in character description. Jacob had sea-blue eyes and than he had sea-green eyes. Than Evaine, Gage and Jacob all have green eyes. Thought that peculiar 🤷🏻♀️ Maybe I’m just being picky? Idk.
One thing I loved about this book was the trio’s aesthetic. Mohawks, leather, band tee’s, purple hair, piercings, tattoo’s, studs, docs, and combat boots. 🫶🏻
The banter throughout between Evaine and Jacob was cute. Jacob is easily one of my fav characters !!!
So about half way through is when we start to get some reveals on what’s going on. I was NOT expecting the book to be about that… at all. Sorta started to pique my interest, as I loveee to read these types of books !!!!
I’m really upset we didn’t get the party. SO much could of happened plot wise during it. Missed opportunity to really develop or make the plot actually interesting. More mystery, suspense, tension etc.
I LOVE Julien 🙌🏻
Without revealing…. I really, really want to see if a love interest is in the works for the next book 😝
I found Evaine to be bratty and difficult to like, so everything she experienced didn't get much of a reaction from me. Plus, the story plops itself so squarely and unceremoniously into the different plot points and characters that I didn't feel attached to, invested in, or otherwise satisfied by anything I got in the story.
Like, what was the point of all the descriptive sex scenes with Gage when I doubt he's going to be more than fodder for getting the main crux of the story going?
Overall feels like an earnest first attempt at a book, but it just wasn't working for me. I skimmed to get a sense of what the plot even was trying to be, but found that I felt adrift in a sea of pointless fluff scenes about sex, milkshakes, and a woman in her 20's who still says Daddy and is spoiled by everyone in her life.
It was nice to finally read a book where the girl isn't preppy, but how many times can you reference your Doc Marten's? It was every other paragraph.
They killed off the only character with some depth and it was hard to separate the boyfriend from the best friend since they looked, dressed and spoke the same. Each calling her the same nicknames and kissing her on the lips.
I was ok with the book until the end, it started getting weird and instead of the ending pulling me in it made me not want to continue the series.
This book was good but it had the slowest start and an almost abrupt ending. I did enjoy it a lot though. Vampires, magic, feuding clans, and a girl stuck in the middle. It was just getting to the really good stuff at the end and I’m interested in what comes next. Spice: 🌶🌶🌶 Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Sweetness: 💗
