Unforgettable Cowboy

Rate this book
Welcome to Dew Drop, Texas. A small town full of characters who will make you smile and help heal hearts of those who come to town or become part of Sunrise Ranch—a wonderful place for foster kids to become family...

Everyone is thrilled that vivacious Jolie Sheridan has returned to Sunrise Ranch. Everyone except Morgan McDermott. Eight years ago, Jolie left the ranch—and Morgan—for a successful career as a competitive kayaker. Now after a terrifying accident has sidelined her, his dad has hired her as the teacher for the ranch's foster boys and Morgan is in trouble. He knows he can't risk getting his heart broken again no matter how rampant his heart has started beating again at just the sight of her.

Jolie Sheridan was just a small-town gal with a dream that came true when she became a competitive kayaker. Now she’s back on the ranch because she can’t bring herself to get back in the water and her heart is hoping that old flame Morgan might welcome her home. Wrong…he’s closed off and unforgiving of how she left him behind…but she needs help and he’s her only hope.

Yep, Morgan is in trouble, just watching Jolie's gentle ways with the boys opens his eyes to the truth: he's never stopped loving her. But she’ll be leaving again—she’s the best at what she does so he can’t let his guard down even though he knows there’s something deeply wrong—he sees it in her eyes and knows it for certain when she passes out in his arms.

Can a "family" of foster boys help give this couple a second chance at love? They see it and they hatch a plan…

Welcome to Dew Drop, Texas—you might not want to leave once you meet the wonderful townsfolk and have lunch at the Spotted Cow Café…

Resembles a Hallmark story

This was a fun, light and predictable book. It very much reminded me of a Hallmark story. A good, clean love story. The love between teacher and students, love between friends and love between a man and woman. It's also a story about trusting God's timing.

I really, REALLY, REALLY do not understand how anyone can endorse Clopton's pitifully bad attempts at writing. I don't. It makes no sense. And it's not like I haven't given multiple books in multiple series a try. She isn't good, and doesn't *EVER* get better.

In this book we have Sunrise Ranch - a group home for fostered boys (SIXTEEN OF THEM) in Texas. Only if you do a Google search on group home requirements in Texas? The limit is twelve to a home. In single parent/co-caregiver situations, it's only SIX. So... how about NO?!

Then there's the timeline. Morgan met hottie when he was 13 and Jolie (Angelina, anyone?! GAH, don't set it up to sway the audience or anything) was 10. She'd moved to the ranch because her parents were going to head up one of the homes for the foster kids (so... multiple group homes on one private property? Except maybe not? And is that even legal? It's like puppy mills for children, or something...).

WHO IN HADES MOVES A LITTLE GIRL TO A GROUP HOME FOR RAUCOUS, IMMATURE, EMOTIONALLY STUNTED TEENAGED BOYS?!?!?!?!?! GAHHHH!!!!! Talk about ASKING for trouble!! Only the fact that this is 'Love, Inspired' saves her from being raped by at least ONE of sixteen troubled adolescent boys, hello!!

WHO APPROVES THE PUBLICATION OF THIS GARBAGE?!?!!

And BTW, we're told (in an aside, of sorts) that Clopton is stealing the idea for this whole debacle from a John Wayne movie called 'The Cowboys'. So this isn't even her own rodeo - she's lifted it from an old classic Western set in days when there weren't the stringent regulations we have now. Which is why it doesn't work.

Back to the timeline. She discovers (on a dusty ranch in Texas, mind) competitive kayaking at the age of 15. How that even happened, I have *NO* idea, it doesn't follow her being all horseback and calf-ropin'. But apparently as a teen she's travelling from river race to river race... all over the country... so in WHAT TIME does any of the back story happen?

Because here we are, Morgan is 32 (which means she's 29), and she's been kayaking exclusively for six years. That takes her back to age 23... and you graduate high school at 18, so... five years. She had five years to do her four-year degree somewhere else, whilst gone all summer on the kayak circuit... then another to do her student teaching somewhere else... WHEN DID SHE EVEN *SEE* MORGAN TO HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM, LET ALONE GET ENGAGED?!?!?!!

Anyhow, sweetie-girl is uber hot (because ALL of Clopton's girls are uber hotties), and she's back on the ranch to be the private teacher for the boys, who need stability and loyalty, to undo the hurt of being abandoned. BUT!!!!! She's only signed on there ONE SEMESTER. Because stability and loyalty with teen boys who are hurting from a revolving door. HOW IS ONE SEMESTER going to show stability to ANYONE?!?!??!?!

Anyhow, she's mostly there for selfish reasons, (((shocker.))) because she's self-centered and oh-so Luv, Inspiring. Mostly she's there because she's skeered. She tipped over in her kayak and nearly drowned. Except it wasn't the kind of nearly-drowned where she had to be fished out of the rapids and she wasn't breathing and unconscious and had to be resuscitated and brought back from near-death. Noooo... she was conscious the whole time and got HERSELF out of the water (pg 21)... which IS NOT NEAR-DEATH, hELLo!!!!! You're seriously telling me that she's sk-k-k-keeered of kayaking because she fell in the drink. As if kayakers never tip over in a river?! As if she's never tipped over before? Seriously?!?!?

Anyhow, she comes back to the ranch to take a very, VERY temporary job, because the last teacher there flaked out (we're told by Clopton) and took off with no notice. Um... considering the delicate emotional state of these boys, wouldn't the teacher 1) have been vetted better, and 2) have taken into consideration the impact on the adolescent young men, if she WAS vetted and responsible enough to be given the role of educator to emotionally fragile foster children? Because all of this smells of BS writing and stupidity, to me.

Morgan's daddy hires Jolie to be teacher-of-the-semester without telling his son, in spite of the fact that it took *Y.E.A.R.S* for Morgan to get over her, the last time. NOT. EVEN. GONNA. HAPPEN. We're talking about his own son's emotional well-being at stake. He wouldn't. EVER. Not a chance. And he did it without talking to Morgan, who is HIS PARTNER in the ranch.

First, Morgan should've told his father that he had to take a 'semester hiatus', if that was the case. Because 1) it undermined him as partner, 2) it threatened the emotional balance of the ranch, and 3) he was being treated unfairly as both a son and a shareholder. It's called tough love and self-preservation, and any man with half a backbone and a smidge of integrity wouldn't just allow someone to railroad him in a precarious situation like this. Not. A. Chance.

BUT. NO.
Because Clopton.

Then Jolie shows up, all hawt and sex-ay, the teenaged boys are drooling and falling all over themselves (which - I'm sure - is GRRRRRRREAT for their emotional well-being, even right there), and she says to Morgan...

...
...
...
... wait for it...
...
...

"When I broke our engagement, Morgan? It was nothing personal."

THIS. THIS IS CLOPTON'S *RIDICULOUS* writing.
I. Can't. Even. Are you kidding?!?!?!!
NoT PeRSoNaL. Seriously.

And when he says, "I have a right to take it personally", she says...
...
...
...wait for it...
...
...

" That's not fair!!!"

((((sigh.)))))

As if that's not bad enough, one of the other commenters pointed out that Jolie is mugging steers and grabs on to the horns of an angus. ANGUS DON'T HAVE HORNS.

I'm out. Sunrise Ranch is headed for the garage sale bag. I have NO USE for the stupidity of this series, just from the first THIRTY-ONE pages. I can't. Checking my brain at the door isn't gonna happen, not for Clopton. I rarely even allow it for GOOD writers. And this is NOT good writing.

DNF@ pg 31.
And good riddance.

What can I say; I’m a huge fan of DEBRA CLOPTON. As soon as I head she was writing HER UNFORGETTABLE COWBOY, I grew very excited, waiting anxiously for its arrival.

Morgan McDermott isn’t please in the least that his father has hired his ex fiancée to temporally fill-in as the teacher for the foster boys on the ranch. No, not one bit.

Jolie Sheridan hadn’t expected to come home to Dew Drop, Texas, and more specifically to Sunrise Ranch. The very place she’d returned her fiancée ring all those years ago. It takes a life threatening accident, but once she’s there, she’s faced with the decision of her past. And a new one that could change the course of her life.

HER UNFORGETTABLE COWBOY is the first of a brand new series. I own each and every book written by MS CLOPTON. I have loved the Mule Hollow series, and didn’t doubt that I would enjoy the Sunrise Ranch as well. I can’t wait to read about Morgan’s two other brothers, or any new characters MS CLOPTON introduces through this new series.

Good story. Lost 2stars for sexism.

I liked the story, but these sentences put me off:"Cooking is a skill that EVEN boys need to learn."
”Not a one of my grandsons has a wife to cook for him YET."
It's sad that in this day and age some people would still teach boys that cooking or anything house related is a woman's job, instead of teaching them that many women have career dreams as well as men and so, when they get home, they're as tired as their husbands and should split the chores instead of doing double journey. I like cowboys books, but few authors seems to have come to the 21st century...

Delightful story

Morgan & Jolie split up 6 years ago because she wanted a career as a top competitive kayaker. And she succeeds, until getting caught underwater & almost drowning. To get over the trauma, she goes home to Dew Drop, Texas, to the McDermont ranch where Morgan still lives and works. Sparks fly! Excellent story. I must point out (nit picky me) that at the steer mugging that Jolie participates in, she grabs a black Angus calf by the horns. Angus do not have horns! Had to be a crossbreed. Aside from that, I loved this book. Will read the other books in the series.

Great clean story!

Morgan and Jolie grew up together on a ranch, were childhood best friends and eventually were engaged to marry. But Morgan introduced Jolie to a sport she loved that caused her to break their engagement also breaking Morgan's heart. Six years later after a near fatal accident she returns to the only place she can heal her fears and return to then only person she ever loved. But Morgan cannot chance the heartbreak of
she leaves again. A wonderful clean story.

Great clean romance

This is a great story. God is clearly involved, but the author didn't offer tons of scripture to fill up space as some Christian romance authors do. Jolie and Morgan finally find peace in their past and romance in their present while caring for boys who need love in their lives. The only problem I had is that Jolie took little blame for breaking Morgan'd heart in their past, & believed if she wanted him now, then dhe should get him. But she mellowed slightly by end of book. Not enough in my opinion. Still a great book

the do over

Six years ago Jolie broke Morgan’s heart when she broke their engagement and left Texas to travel the world making a living in the Kayak world. When a near death experience brings her back to Morgans ranch as a teacher to the foster boys living at the ranch. Can they start again or will Morgan refuse to open his heart to her again not knowing if the same thing will happen again. Sentimental and sweet this is a short read with likable characters. I especially love the foster boys and their conniving ways.

Debra Clapton does not disappoint

I have enjoyed several of Clopton’s books. She shows that leading a Christian life is not always easy, and has her characters grow in their faith through trials. Jolie and Morgan have history that hinders their relationship. Jolie as an accident that sets her back emotionally and spiritually. Add in cute foster boys on a ranch who want them together, and a heartwarming story comes about. Forgiveness and seeking God’s will are a part of the story, too.

She left him brokenhearted.

Now Jolie is back, but she the one that's broken. Morgan doesn't want her back on his ranch. However, he is not given a choice by his father. While trying to recover from her near death experience, Jolie realized she made a mistake leaving him six years ago but knows it will take a miracle from God to get Morgan to forgive her. Is there a future for them or will Morgan force her to leave this time?

Love Overcomes Fear

We all have fear that has the power to rob us of God’s best for us if we let it. God’s Word tells us the perfect love drives fear out. Both Jolie and Morgan have to battle fear to give their love for each other a chance to thrive. Along the way they learn about their own issues and about God’s ability to use even the hard things in life to accomplish good. You will enjoy this book!

Hate the cover! Why? The cowboy's Stetson is totally out of perspective with his head and his orientation (if you photoshop, please watch your perspective). The story was well written, the characters were lovable and the location was part of a strong supporting cast. Both main characters had grow and evolved during their separation. They both had a lot of growing up to do and to determine their priorities and life goals.

Wow, I was so blown away by the ranch that fosters 16 boys to give them a loving foundation. If there isn’t a place like this, there should be and that would really be a blessing to those lost kids. That alone made me want to continue to read this story. I really love Morgan; he was heartbroken but put his sorrow into something good for others. Jolie was a strong woman who had to see for herself what she wanted out of life. This was a great story full of hope.

Unforgettable Cowboy (Cowboys of Dew Drop, Texas Book 1)

What an interesting and challenging read, as the love of Morgan’s life comes back to Dew Drop, Texas. Without telling Morgan, his father hires her to come to the ranch and be the teacher of these 16 boys. Since Jolea had left the ranch, his ring and proposal behind 6 years prior, this transition becomes quite electric, since Morgan has a difficult time even seeing her here…without remembering how she left him. Read to see how God deals with all on the ranch! Awesome!

Rough Water Kayaking

No lie broke Jason's heart when she left to join the kayaking circuit. She was a top kayakers when she had a near fatal accident. She returned to the ranch as a teacher to the group of lost boys there. She feared she'd never go back out on the river but found her place as their teacher until Morgan refused to renew her contract.

Jolie left Morgan holding the ring 6 years ago when she went to kayak professionally in competitions. She came back after a terrible accident that leaves her mind scarred. Can the foster boys at the ranch get them back together?

Clean language.

Contains: premarital kissing, branding and tagging of calves, scary river rapids.

Healing and forgiveness

Healing and forgiveness need to go together. Doing what is best for the other person is essential, as well. The problem is being sure you know what is best for the other person.
All three elements, sixteen foster boys and a town full of caring characters make for an entertaining story.

This was a wonderful Christian romance on the river banks of a ranch. They had broke up six years ago and NIW his dad hired her to teach the boys at the ranch. What a great and sweet story. You'll love it like I did!
