Captain Jacob Brown knew something was up when the United Earth Navy sent two capital warships to their small outpost base. Nobody ever came out to Mosler Station unless they had to.
Scout Team Obsidian was scheduled to stand down after two lengthy deployments, letting the team recuperate and rest, but leadership had other ideas. A prototype weapon system has been stolen from Earth and Obsidian is being called up to track it down.
What appears to be a simple search and recovery mission on the surface will push the team and its captain to the brink as they wade into the middle of a civil war on a far-flung world. Tracking the thieves was one thing, taking back what they stole would be something else entirely.
This universe that Joshua has built is incredible, and while this book didn't do much to add to everything, it provides a bit of extra context and aftermath from the last big picture books. I'm glad in a sense that this was a very stand alone book in the sense that it didn't bring in Jason's crew, but it hints at much bigger things. I'm always so impressed with how the author is able to keep track of things. After reading a ton of space operas, I always come back to this being a great example of a well built universe. The only downside is he doesn't give much description of the aliens so it's 99% imagination.
I’m a huge fan of This author’s works anyway, so I may be a bit biased, but this was my favorite book in this series so far. The plot really moved quickly, the characters have become more defined, and there was plenty of action, humor, and even drama. The only complaint I have is that it was not edited well and the typos and sometimes backwards phrasing made the flow difficult at times. All in all though, an excellent addition to the series and an immensely enjoyable story.
Obsidian is tasked over & over in the typical military fashion, meaning that the reward for an extremely difficult task well done is to be given an even MORE difficult task. The team is betrayed by several different entities during the book which makes things murkier than usual (which is really saying something!) I’m not sure where this story will go now, with many things obviously not resolved yet but hopefully the author will put out some more information soon!
While this was yet again a great read I wonder why Mr. Dalzelle insists on rushing the story.
He has so much good material, such a great story to tell yet he races through it like a teenage boy through mowing the lawn before seeing his girlfriend.
I feel the very end of the book hints at deeper emotional issues that should have been more explored in this book as opposed to the next one.
You can take this down after you read it. I enjoyed the book, yet must complain about the editing. There were grammer issues and word order problems that took away from the story. Being in flow, then having to drop out to decipher a missing word situation breaks up the narrative.
It's unfortunate. I am not an editor, but would be willing to proofread your next effort.
I use ratings to decide which books I am going to buy, and I recently decided I am partially responsible for inflating the ratings on books. Either they were 5 star or 1 star. I decided to use the star rating more objectively as follows:
★★★★★ Great book! Can’t wait to read it again (and I will). ★★★★☆ Good book. I am glad I read this. ★★★☆☆ OK book. Nothing special but not bad. ★★☆☆☆ Not good. Why did I waste my time? ★☆☆☆☆ Lousy. I didn’t finish.
Another great installment in Terran Scout Fleet and the Omega Force universe. My reviews of the books in set in this universe tend be similar. These are a fun read with great characters that you grow to love more with each installment. While I prefer the Omega Force series more, Terran Scout Fleet is right on its heels and really feels like a true extension of the same universe. I love these books and look forward to reading them all again at some nebulous point in the future.
A liitle Omega Force and some Black Fleet give you the solid blended story for this series. Action for the OF fans and enough military jargon and nuance to make the BF fans happy. Also some twists that keep you guessing how it will end.
You always know what you’re getting with Dalzelle, and he delivers another gripping sci-fi tale. Rather than running out of steam, the depth of the wider universe - built in the Omega Force series - grounds a plot that would easily stand on it’s own. The weight of the surrounding politics and intrigue add colour without dragging down the action - which continue at a breakneck pace.
Very good read with Jacob and his human crew and his Battlesynth, Tin Man. This time he was sent after a stolen proto-type of machinery called Atlas. The machine is killing people and is up to Jacob to stop it.
No romance and the F-bomb was used 44 times.
As for the narration: Paul Heitsch does an amazing job.
Finally, Jacob has been matched with a villian that could challenge him, and that's exactly what he did. This was the best book in the series so far. I also like how they are all starting to pull together as a team and Jacob is trying to make some progress on getting a better relationship with his Dad. On to the next book...
Mr. Dalzelle does justice to that trait common to most men that makes them want to be a part of something bigger than themselves, whether they realize it or not. Like Kipling, he tells a tale of young men who want to “see the elephant”, until they lay eyes on it and hope they never see it again.
Hadn't realized a new book in the Terran Scout Fleet was available until it popped in my suggested reading list! I immediately purchased it and completed it same day. Once again, Joshua Dalzelle provides a very intriguing story that keeps you fully engaged until the end. As with the Omega Force series, I truly hope this series will have some longevity to it, and hopefully another team with these two crews working together! Thanks again for another terrific read Mr Dalzelle!
Jacob and his scout team are again chucked into the deep end, as they are sent to find and retrieve some stolen earth tech. Good, fast paced story, with the team dynamics and interactions now we'll gelled.
JD has done it again. Another wonderful Scout fleet adventure. Really love the way he tells their story, and each book gets better. So excited for the next one to be released. Keep up the great story telling......
I've read a bunch of this author's books and really enjoy all of them. I'm getting into all the characters. And the storyline he puts out there with every book that he does.
In a time where I have not been afforded the luxury to sit and read, this book held my attention. Joshua Dalzelle is definitely a favorite author of mine, and should be one of yours, too.
I enjoyed this story it was full of who was covering for who but the ending was a little to moralizing at the end they were bringing down the really bad guys this time it’s a 5 star read though
Part detective novel part action fight storyline. Really enjoyable reading. This author does not disappoint. I would recommend his work if by like a great page turner.
Just like Omega force, Terran Scout Fleet is a fun action packed read. Tin Man is coming into his own, and like Lucky, great character development. Cannot wait for the next book.
What a team hard fighters that support each other through thick and thin
This book covers several different plots. But it constantly shows that it's the team and the fight that gets the job done. These guys bust each other's chops but they have each other's back always.
His and omega force have been great books. Dalzelle is a great story teller, and it's nice to have some authors I can trust to give give entertainment instead of frustration
This book was a good new storyline after the main plot was completed in the previous book. The storyline set up future books. Looking forward to reading more by this author.
This is a great book , I had not read any scout fleet for a while , and it was if I had just put the last book down , same great characters, good story line , give me more , well doe Joshua , keep them coming ..
Continued story arc that makes it hard to put it down and do other things... I especially like the father-son tie-in with the other series. I can't wait until the next book is available!
Loved how well Jacob Brown and the obsidian team works in getting their objective met. Enjoyed seeing how working to find a dangerous mechanism can be but great teamwork is necessary
After being a fan of the Omega force series for a decade I was thrilled to have this one come up though in many ways similar it is different enough that you're not feeling like you're reading scoot .This book has a great story line with characters that relate well
Like his other books, Me. Dalzelle tells an exciting and unpredictable story. Character development is superb. I highly recommend reading anything he writes. Bravo Zulu!
I enjoyed reading this 4th volume of this series. Looking forward to others coming out. I highly recommend reading it. It's worth the price and time David Schlosser .
