It’s been five years since that last bit of bad business and I'm ready to put it all behind me! Welcome back, my adventurous friends. I’m Shady Greg, and I’ve got a plan. Jadera—the land that stole me from Earth and assigned me to be a Merchant—is opening a new area soon, and I’m going to be the first to plunder its riches! Ahem, I mean, set up shops that help adventurers like you. At reasonable prices, even! It's ripe for the taking! I've never seen an opportunity this good. With the dastardly villain of my last adventure out of the picture, there’s really nothing between me and a monopoly of the new Misty Isles! Nothing could possibly go wrong! Even The Profit thinks it’s a good idea! (Oh shush, you. I hear you laughing. I’m trying to keep this optimistic!)
At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review.
Genre: Gamelit, system breaking, profit focused, fantasy business owner Explicit/adult material: None.
Summary: Greg has lost it all and is starting again. Heading out to the new islands created by the system. But others have the same idea, and even with great innovations, rebuilding his business is going to be quite the fight.
Narrators Voice diversity: Each character had distinct voices and it was easy to follow. Pacing and intonation: Well done. The storytelling is immersive and alive. Overall: 4.5 / 5 stars.
The book’s strengths. - I love books where the MC keeps trying to break the system - I love trading and wealth building in stories - The premise of an expanding world with a dungeon focused gold rush is great - I really enjoy that the storyteller is the main character. It is fun, collegial and breaks the fourth wall in a way that works. - Great narration
The book’s weaknesses. - The pacing. I feel like each of the failed attempts of getting rich could (and should) have been their own book. - There are a lot of gotchas. Everything feels too easy. We did it! But not really. We did it! but not really!
Shady Greg really cracked me up. This has some action and adventure but is not a dungeon crawl, it's more of a shady businessman RPG trying to make coin off of the actual adventurers. I didn't read the first book and it wasn't necessary because the author did a great job of filling in any gaps that were presented. I previewed this for my teens that are really huge into D&D and will be letting them listen as it's right up their alley.
Parents- PG - suitable for 12 and up - the MC is a "Shady" guy so there's underhanded deals and "backstabbing" Language- don't remember any bad language, no f-bombs Violence- normal to genre, nothing too graphic Sexual Content- None
Narrator- did a great job with the differentiations and was fun to listen to. I listened at 1.25x speed.

Wolfe Locke and Mike Caliban continue an amazing series and it just gets better and better! Shady Greg once again gains it all, only, well, if you read the first one you know what will follow. The characters continue to develop, new interesting and devious characters are introduced, and old friends make their appearances. This story is absolutely amazing and I cannot wait for book 3 in the series! Audio Version: Christopher Harbour continues to do an amazing job with every character and the overall narration.

Audiobook: I found the 2nd book in "The Ballad of Shady Greg" series entertaining. This story captured my imagination from the opening until the end, and I listened to the whole audiobook in one sitting. Shady Greg and his companions were fun characters. There was action, adventure, and humor within the pages of this story. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. Christopher Harbour's narration was great and enhanced the entertainment of the tale. I was given a free copy of the audiobook and I have voluntarily posted this review.
Everything 2nd book should be. And wonder of wonders even though its a second book it stands on its own. You can read this and understand it without having to read any previous books!
