Power by Margaret McHeyzer
Bennet Adams, America’s youngest President oozes charisma and respect from around the world. The passing of his wife at the beginning of his career has always stopped him from forging a relationship with anyone else. But a man has needs, and so Bennet hires Reece Maxwell for her services. Reece is an escort, but she is no pushover. When she is hired by non-other than the President, she is somewhat concerned, but a job is a job until it crosses a line. Can the president keep their affair under wraps and is Reece prepared to offer her services to the man that blows hot and cold?
I found this story to be predictable at every turn. There were no hidden or explosive plot twists. The repetition of what they both did for a career and their concerns was tedious. I found that the main characters did not have enough time together to actually build up any sort of relationship, in fact, Reece spent more time with secondary characters than she did with the President. And for that reason, I never felt any love or romance blossom between them. While the bedroom happenings were okay, it still lacked that sizzling hot chemistry. As for emotions, I never felt them. The president wanted her because she stood up to him, and dare I say, no one had done that to him before. Or that is what the author wanted us to believe, and yet Liam seemed to do that every day. As for poor Emily, all she did was read night and day. Reece’s reason for not wanting to give up her job fell flat for me, especially when we were told how financially strong and secure she had become. Now let me find some positives. On the whole, the secondary characters were great and May intrigued me the most. I liked Liam, and if he gets his story, I pray he runs for President and hopefully gets himself into more heated situation to add some spice to the story. Ms McHyzer is talented without a doubt, her writing has an easy flow and ‘usually’ her stories push boundaries, but for some unfortunate reason, this did not hit the mark for me.
