Crossroads #1

My First: Jason & Katie

Rate this book
Jason Sloan is known as Harper’s Crossing’s resident Romeo, and he’s never had to work too hard to live up to that nickname. With his easygoing charm, whiskey-colored brown eyes, and sinfully sexy half smile, women just seem to fall all over themselves when he’s around.

Well... most women, anyway. Katie Lawson’s the one woman who isn't putty in his hands, and she's the only one he’s ever wanted in his arms.

Katie Lawson left Harper's Crossing in the middle of the night ten years ago, immediately after her high school boyfriend Nick's funeral. She left behind all memories of Nick, and she left behind her life-long best friend, Jason Sloan.

Now she's on the fast track to junior partner at one of San Francisco's top law firms. She's made a life for herself that's all about maintaining order and sticking to the rules. Rule #1 is keeping herself WAY too busy to think about all that she ran away from. If she can do that, after all, she can keep everything under control.

But that rule is about to be broken. She’s headed back home to be the maid of honor in Nick’s little sister’s wedding. It's time to face the truth she's been avoiding all these years, the same one that sent her running ten years ago - that maybe she didn't lose her first love the summer after high school. Maybe her first love has been waiting for her all this time, at home in Harper's Crossing.

NEW YORK TIMES & USA TODAY bestselling author Melanie Shawn writes HEAs filled with sweet and sassy heroines, heroes who are cinnamon rolls in the streets alpho-holes in the sheets, casts of supportive *cough: meddling* friends and family who put the fun in funny, toe-curling combustible heat, and sugary sweet “aww” moments that will have your hearts and e-readers melting.

I'm glad this was a freebie... That way I don't feel bad for DNF-ing at 20%!
Katie is one of the most obnoxious heroines ever.. The inner monologues are excruciating and while her babbling is supposed to be endearing (I think?), it was so over the top it was just really embarrassing.
The H is so smug and arrogant, which is in stark contrast to his inner thoughts. Right from the start Jason makes it clear that he needs to apologise to Katie for something he did in the past, but the first time he sees her after 10 years he's a smartass. And not really the funny charming kind, just the "what the fuck is wrong with you?"..
Yup... Moving on!

My First - Jason & Katie BY Melanie Shawn
Genres : Contemporary Romance

New boyfriend alert!!!
I liked this book a lot, it was funny, sexy, and sweet. the relationship between the two main characters were great. I don't usually read books with third POV, at first i was disappointed, but then i met Jason Sloan he is so ASDFGHJKL . this story is about finding yourself again, it's about leaving secrets behind and move on , it's about family and love. It's about Home

The themes are awesome, the characters are fun and sexy. It was alo somehow cute? and very sweet. especially when you read about everythig that Jason did to Katie while growing up, the so called " bad boy" is actually the good boy from next door.

I REALLY want to read more about the Sloan brothers.
I recommend this book for you guys. ;)

this was such a sweet story!!! I really enjoyed it. I had it in my head it was going to be a certain, way, but I actually thought it was better than that.

Katie is a nervous wreck. Poor girl! Jeez. When we first meet her, we find her having a panic attack in a rental car. She is home for the first time in ten long years for the wedding of her friend, who happens to be the younger sister of her high school boyfriend who died in an accident after graduation.

You relive a few moments from the past in various chapters. When it all comes to light, it was wow .... I didn't even see it coming!

Jason is her best friend of 25 years. He was there through it all, and stood by her side, but in the background through out her relationship with Nick. They were the three musketeers. After Nick dies, Katie flees town, leaving Jason behind after something happens. She comes back to town thinking he thinks the worst of her....he doesnt

This is a story of love in its truest form. I absolutely adored these two characters. I'd rec it to anyone wanting a cute, sweet, and slightly amusing story :)

I read this book after reading the 5th in the series in order to see if it was just the heroine in the 5th book who bugged me. Nope. Katie bugged me too. The author's heroines are too emotionally weak for my tastes. Katie is supposed to be on the fast track to a law partnership but she is written like a tongue tied teenager. Yes. She has feelings for Jason but why does that then mean she can't carry on a basic conversation with the guy? There is one scene where she hasn't read the itinerary and is blindsided by what happens next. What? Did I mention she is a lawyer? There are some things that become rote after time and training. Why in the world would she not read the schedule, even cursory glance? It doesn't make any sense.

I couldn't picture her in a high powered career that she was supposed to have. I certainly wouldn't want her representing me in any case. I don't think this author's heroines are for me.

What a wonderful and enjoyable read. After ten years away Katie is back home and hoping she can get out of there in one piece. Jason has loved Katie his whole life and he's hoping that while she's here he'll have the chance to show her how much. This wonderful story shows us how facing what we thought were awful demons can free our hearts! Grab a copy and read it today.

I was so in love with this book. First of all ill say that I think the author explained things too much.
BUT....... wow. I think because they had been in love after all that time that the story was better.
And this was another book where it was on both of their point of views. And if you read read if you will get tears in your eyes, it was that good.

Light, sweet, charming and funny.

“Well I’ve always known that God put you here for me, Kit Kat. You might be a little slow on the uptake but I’m just glad that, even though it took you more than twenty years, you finally realize it, too.”

I cannot even begin to tell you how much I loved and enjoyed this book.

Katie was in town for a wedding. Coming back to your hometown after 10 years was difficult especially because of the reasons she ran away in the first place.

Jason was Katie's best friend. He was also her Nick's best friend (Nick is her ex). When Nick died tragically, Katie sought comfort in Jason's arms and then she left town.

I liked how the two characters tell the back-story of their friendship through flashbacks. I swooned when I read about things that Jason did for Katie back when they were younger and the things he kept on doing for her even though he hadn't seen her in 10 years.

I laughed, I swooned, I cried towards the end - but through it all the chemistry, friendship and romance between the two kept me entertained and rooting for them.

I got this as a free ebook and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. The main character was irritating in the extreme, the male lead started off way too strong (seriously, you haven't seen the girl in ten years and within five minutes she's pinned up against her car with you nibbling on her neck?), the "friends" of both characters were shallow and catty, the whole weird stalker subplot was superfluous, and the anxiety stuff? Honestly, I started out thinking the authors were doing a good job with describing panic attacks, but then I found out the main character (who apparently has no idea how to deal with them) had been helping her mother deal with them for years???

It wasn't a bad book for a 2-3 hour read. But it wasn't anything I found really compelling.

This book Is the perfect "book-after-reading-an-intense-emotion-draining-novel", the perfect read if you want a squee/spazz session. The banters between Jason and Katie were funny and their musings were hilarious, It's also good that it was written in dual POV. I really admire Jason's love and devotion towards his Kit Kat, makes you wanna wish having your own Jason and being the recipient of an enduring love for almost 25 yrs. This story is so fluffy it floats. Can't wait to read the next one.

Laugh and cry with the citizens of Harper's Crossing. The story is well written with some surprises along the way. Jason and Katie are your typical kids that grew up and apart without having the courage to tell each other what they were really feeling. Love that I have found the team of Melanie Shawn...will continue to read their books.

I really enjoyed this book. I love reading a book from both male and female POV because you get to see how both characters are feeling.
Jason and Katie are perfect for each other the only one who has realized this yet it of course Katie. She has some issued and guilt to rid herself of, because her boyfriend of 6 years died the summer after they graduated high school. Well sometime you figure out the " love" of your life is not the person you thought he was. This book is emotional and heart warming and and all around great read

This was pretty cute and I'm sure I would have finished it sooner then what I did but I kept falling asleep after work and would nap for awhile but that had nothing to do with this book just a long week at work. ANYWHO, I really enjoyed this story, hopefully we can see their wedding in one of the next books coming up and also maybe get to meet (spoiler alert) Katie's siblings. Excited to see what is next in this series.

The covers of books always captivate me and sometimes you can be swayed by a cute couple and the book isn't that great. But from the first i was captivated by what was happening. Usually i predict what the outcome or the scenario surrounding the characters is quite easily but here i was kept on my toes lol.

i liked Jason and Katie story. it wasnt obvious and he tried everything to capture her heart yet she was the only one oblivious to even her own actions. what i really made me fall in love with this book was the hero Jason. It was love at first sight for him when he was 5 and he had to endure unrequited love for years till Katie finally opened herself up to what she felt for him

Bothersome moments set in when the writer rambled on about the quad squad... but to me Jason redeemed all the negative aspects.

Douchbag:
-Nick Hunter. im glad he treated Katie with respect but playing her for years was WRONG and the 'girls' he did it with is another story.
- Katies dad who never came back to visit and had a secret family...

but i liked the fact CJ who came to search for her...
LOVED: THE DESCRIPTION OF when Jason saw Katie for the first time; when Jason explained why he was late to prom; when jason...(jason is hardcore adn sweet and kind[a really awesome lead character])

LOVVE THE TRAILER!!!!!

This plot line had possibilities, but this work is in serious need of a good editor. It was, I thought, "overwritten." Numerous paragraphs should have been edited down to a single sentence. Most readers know if you're going to open the trunk, you get out of the car, walk around the back, insert the key, open the lid, etc. A writer really doesn't have to explain all of that.

I found some word choices to be odd. I've never heard or seen the word "marinate" used for people; for me it's a cooking term. I don't picture people who "sit and marinate in their thoughts." Loc 824.

I also did not understand this from the beginning of Chapter 4: "Well, I swan." Huh? What does that mean?

Lastly, the main character is asupposedly a 28 yr old fast track San Francisco corporate lawyer. She is very scially immature, inarticulate, and has the emotional maturity of a 14 yr old.

This story was so sweet. Katie hasn't been home in ten years, she has a lot of memories back home some of which she doesn't want to re visit...I thought the writer captured Katie's feelings perfectly , her sadness, her panicking, her lust for Jason. I felt everything that she was feeling. I loved Jason's character, so freakin sexy and sweet I just wanted to hug him...when the two old friends see each other again, sparks fly and keep on flying. I thought the reminiscing was special in the story both thinking back to the past and trying to wish for the future. I thought they made a sweet couple. I also loved Sophiebell character, she's so full of life and happy...if your looking for some light sweet romance this books for you ....4 stars

I really enjoyed this story and I liked Jason and Katie as a couple so much. Although if honest, I liked Jason a lot more than Katie. There were several things that came out in this book that shocked me as I was not expecting them and I really felt bad for Katie as a result. Katie and Jason definitely caught my attention along with a great set of secondary characters that have me looking forward to their stories. The only thing about this book is that there was a lot of character inner dialogue/thinking. I have to admit that I actually did skip some of it and just read the actual dialogue. Since this is my first read by Melanie Shawn, I'm not sure if this is just her style or just this book. That said, I still enjoyed the book and I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Nice lovey dovey cute story about a love meant to be...
This whole book happens in just one weekend with a few remembrances from their past.
Jason was just one of those guys that's just to good to be true, he saw Katie like she walked the moon and more. His adoration for her (since they were five I may add) made me wonder why he didn't look for her in the TEN years she was gone!! Or even when she was dating his best friend... But it served the story right I guess, and it kept me rooting for them...
Great side characters that I can't wait to read more about.
Only 4 stars because it really wasn't a new story per se and it was pretty predictable ...
