Fairytale Love: Becca & Brian

Rate this book
We’re just friends…

Fair and beautiful Becca Sloan was used to saying this to people… and it was true. The youngest of Harper’s Crossing’s Quad Squad, she knew she could always rely on her best friend, Brian. Ever since their first encounter on the slide in pre-K, they’d had each other’s backs and were inseparable, through good times and bad.

Sexy and charming Brian Scott kept nothing from his best friend, Becca. He knew that she would always be there for him, and she knew that she could always count on him. They had a once-in-a-lifetime friendship that was a constant in both of their lives.

When both Becca and Brian are cast in a dating reality show to find love elsewhere, it becomes clear to them that they may have already found it. With cameras rolling, they’ll have to decide if they should protect their friendship and live un-happily ever after with someone else - or trust in their amazing bond and live happily ever after with each other in a Fairytale Love.

I grew up on folklore. I remember those early days of childhood with my Mom regaling me with tales of princes and princesses, good and evil and happily-ever-afters. I am a sucker for Disney movies and to this day, I relish and lose myself in those beautiful tales of love and romance.

Having said that, it would be no lesser a fact, that anytime I read about the Sloans in “The Crossroad Series”, I have a goofy look, a smile on my lips, sparkles in my eyes, flutters in my heart and sheer happiness in mind. One look at my space out face, and my husband knows exactly what realm I’m visiting ;)

Melanie Shawn’s latest installment in the Crossroad Series (Book#8), “Fairytale Love” brings Brian Scott and Becca Sloan to the culmination of their own happy ending. Childhood best friends, with no secrets between them, one magical kiss changes their feelings for each other, and feelings that both have been fighting to keep their friendship intact.

Loved the concept of the sexy Brian getting selected for a reality show to find his true love and Becca invariably ends up on the same show, with fate lending them a gentle push towards those circumstances. Pairing with different partners on the show, it was delightful to watch them go through the various competitions as they rediscover themselves through the eyes of love.

Brian is one of he most adorable characters I’ve come across with his kindness, his unconditional love and support for his family, his sacrifices with no qualms, he is one man with a golden heart. Becca is one of the sweetest girls of the Sloan clan and adored by everyone and a loyal ally that you can ever find.

Melanie and Shawna create beautiful love stories, with pages of deep feelings, strong and independent characters, steeped in love and passion, filled with the essence of family and belonging and a sense security and protection. They are down to earth, simple and blissful!

Becca and Brian truly are the fairytale couple.Best friends since pre-kindergarten,they are so loving, caring and kindhearted souls,it was a pleasure getting to know them.

No one can describe Brian better than Becca,
“Brian is the kind of guy who not only opens doors and makes sure you wear a jacket if it’s cold outside, he also knows exactly what to do to make you laugh when laughing is the last thing you want to do. He knows what really matters and what doesn’t. He can rebuild your car engine, put a complicated desk together in under an hour after your dad throws the instructions out from frustration, fix your computer when it crashes, and also, notices when you buy a new skirt.

“He has a smile that makes you do things you would never do in a million years. I call it his bad-boy smile. When he flashes that smile, people—myself included—just follow him blindly. Because even if, technically, it’s something you know you shouldn’t be doing, you also know that, whatever happens, Brian will take care of it. He’ll take care of you.

“If you are lucky enough to be someone Brian loves, then you know that, no matter what happens, he will always be there for you. He would do anything, sacrifice anything, for the people he loves.”

or Becca better than Brian,
“Becca’s not just my friend. She’s part of me. As much a part of me as my limbs, because she’s the strength I stand on. My lungs, because she’s the air I breathe. My heart, because she’s the love I feel. My brain, because she’s my sanity.” He let out a puff of a laugh. “My conscience, because she tells me when I’m screwing up.

“Becca’s not just my friend. She’s my…everything."

And despite the sweetness and cuteness of the story,it did not give me a tooth ache. This shows the author's skill in writing a successful fairytale romance.

Oh wow... Every girl should have a Brian in her life, I mean, seriously!
He´s like... perfect!

Ok, so we all know what happened at Haley´s wedding, and the comments she made to her sister´s right? So you just need to know what is going on between these 2 - They have been friends forever and now suddenly things start changing for both of them, but neither wants to give up what they have.

When they both get signed up to be on this dating reality show ´Fairy tale´, you just know they are both going to be affected...

I love how they are both just there for one and other and seriously Brian melts me everytime he kisses her forehead or rubs her back with his thumb.

Somehow I expected them to get together a bit sooner but then again, the book would be over instantly and that wouldn´t make sense...

As usual, I kinda miss having an epilogue (I mean, can you see Brian as a dad??? *swoon* I need scenes like that!) and there was one teeny tiny thing that annoed me, and that is that they refered to the Beast (as in Beauty and the Beast) as being called Vincent... when the fairy tale one (disney) is called Adam - Guess the TV series character must have been used here :P) - It´s something really minor and not even relevant to the characters (just me being special hehe)

Love the knowledge that we will be reading about Bobby and Sophie soon, and after that I hope there will be many more books waiting for us because Melanie Shawn really is one of my favorite authors!

When I started reading this series I loved the Sloan brothers. I wasn't sure if I would like the spin on the cousins. I was pleasantly surprised!! I enjoyed each of the books equally. They all had a great story, great connection, great passion. It was sweet as well as steamy at times.

I would recommend this series to anyone. I love reading a series because you can follow the previous characters. This did just that. Every character was brought back in because they were related and seeing each other at weddings and holidays. I loved it.

I wouldn't mind a spin off of others in the series. Maxi, Colton, Riley's bar partners, Seth's security guys..........anything to keep the storyline of the entire family going. Maybe even a family reunion of sorts showing each of the characters and where they are now. What their families look like. Where everyone is. What has happened in their lives, etc.

Fairytale Love is the 8th book in Melanie Shawn's Crossroads series and concludes the matings of the Sloane clan. It's a "friends to lovers" story of Becca the youngest of the four Quad Sisters as their known and her life long BFF Brian. I'll confess at the start that I've always had a hard time with these friends to lovers stories even though I enjoy them because as a guy it's hard for me to imagine having that strong a sense of affection and friendship with a member of the opposite sex without having an accompanying sexual desire for them. I mean if one or both of you are in a committed relationship then you just don't let it go any further than friendship. But with the long, deep friendships these stories always entail its hard to imagine the friendship hasn't blossomed into something more long before it happens in these stories unless you're completely not physically attracted to one another which is never the case in these stories. This story picks up months after a drunk Becca has referred to Brian as her lobster (lobsters we're told mate for life) and apparently tries to seduce him when he helps her to her hotel room after her sister Haley's wedding. They kiss but Brian leaves her before she can take it any further. Becca returns to her pre-med studies at Stanford after the wedding and she and Brian both spend the next semester having erotic fantasies about each other while in typical friends to lovers story fashion fear to make a move to take their friendship to the next level for fear it will endanger said friendship. Becca was so drunk she's not even certain she kissed Brian and thinks she might just have imagined it and can't understand why she now suddenly sees her lifelong BFF as an object of her sexual desire. Brian knows he kissed Becca and knows he's in love with her but is afraid to act on his feelings. Why when drunk or not Becca was the one to instigate the kiss and try for more Brian doesn't see this as an indication that deep down she too wants more than friendship from him is a mystery? Becca returns home from college for the summer and in a plot that could only occur in a romance novel ends up on a reality t.v. show like The Bachelor or Bachelorette competing against him to win the $500,000. 00 prize he desperately needs to get his parents out of financial ruin. The author has a lot of fun in this book making fun of such reality shows and how scripted they really are. Brian and Becca spend most of the book watching one another pretend to be interested in a relationship with the person they've been paired with and dying a little inside every time they see the other cuddling or kissing their t.v. paired partner. After what seemed like forever and ironically after the wedding of her other sister Krista our two lover birds finally acknowledge their feelings for each other and get between the sheets for some sizzling sex. But what do they do about the show where they're supposed to be coupled and looking for their fairytale H.E.A. with someone else as two of the three final couples and so much money that Brian so desperately needs is on the line? Well the answer is totally over the top, and I loved it! But even though I loved it the ending left me a little unsatisfied because we don't know what happens next. Okay we know they're in love and that love is strong enough to survive separation but....... Do they do the follow-up show for more money? Do they get formally engaged or even married before Becca has to return to the West Coast to complete her studies? Does Brian follow her to California to be with her, stay in Harpers Crossing or return to NYU to complete his degree in film studies? Having read the beginning of the follow-on novella, the story of Bobby and Sophie that closes out the Sloane portion of the Crossing series I haven't yet seen any references to Becca and Brian so I don't think my questions are answered there. There were a couple of stories in the authors Hope Falls series that closed with similar circumstances where the lovers committed to each other but circumstances were going to make it difficult for them to actually be together regularly. I know that in real life in military families its not unusual for couples to endure long separations (which probably explains the high divorce rate) but personally I like my H.E.A. to have couples living in the same zip code if not the same house.

Our tongue has four tastes: sweet, salty, sour, and bitter- I like to call it spicy - and when all these elements are in harmony, comes 'the perfect taste'.
The story is sweet - the friendship Becca and Brian have had since pre-kindergarten is adorable. How they are always there for each other, have each others back, how they center each other with just one look or touch... The list could just go on and on, they are so precious to each other.
It is savory - how Brian takes on his shoulders the responsibility of his family, and the financial burdens, is admirable. How he reacted to his parents illness had me in tears. The first fourth of the book happens in 24 hour period, and mostly focuses on reflection of the past of Becca and Brian's lifelong friendship, how it has developed over the years. Several times I was in tears reading it, it was incredibly touching.
And it is spicy - when Becca and Brian finally come together and admit the new feelings to each other, it is passionate, beautiful, and sensuous.
You also get the hint of the sour, with the reality show storyline, their reaction to the other contestants, the actions they have to take to try to win the show, and what is shown to the audience of the TV show.
The story was so addictive, I read it on one sitting, late to the night (or early to the morning hours). Yes, all the books in the series can be read as stand-alone novels, but I don't know why would you: Crossroads is fresh, adorable romantic series with the perfect balance in taste! Five stars all the way.

This is definitely a book that I will be going back and rereading. Not only is the story something that hooks me in, with the amazing character development, but the way the author, Melanie Shawn, always includes the other characters that were seen in the series. Every other chapter (mostly) is done in one of the main characters point of view. You start to understand how they think, why they think in that context, and why they act the way they do. She then adds a sort of extended epilogue to the past couples by featuring them in the story line. This quality is always something that I love in a book. It became something that makes me pick out a book in the first place because of this book series.

Wonderfully sweet and romantic! I thought that the reality show side of things would leave me cold as I'm not a fan of them myself, but for the purposes of this story it was great! Can't wait to read Bobby and Sophie's story in December and really hope the author's one day come back to give us Colton's story as I'd like to see him with a HEA as he was so nice!
On the whole I can't say enough good things about this series and this book will be joining the others on my keeper shelf! Highly recommended!

This was such a heart warming love story.... Becca and Brian have been best friends since preschool. They have gone through everything together and after a kiss at a wedding, they both realized that they were in love. They just didn't want to admit it to each other, because they were fearful of losing their close friendship. It took them both getting pick for a reality show about fairytale love to make them realize what that have had their entire lives!! Great story for the hopeless romantics!!!

They've done it again

They've done it again

I'm still on the fairytale high from this story. I absolutely love Becca and Brian, I've been waiting on their story. They've been so close for so long, it takes extreme circumstances to make them see their true feelings. Though at times in the story you want to reach out and shake them, missing all that prime opportunity to love each other. I think Brian is my new favorite, sorry Riley.

A fairy tale indeed!

A fairy tale indeed!

This romance novel left me teary eyed with its characters. Another beautiful love story but with the wonderful flare of a reality tv series. Revisiting characters from other books just connects you more to the story and draws a deeper connection. Another hit!:) LOVED it!

I cried at the end, which is something I hardly ever do when reading. I usually leave a good book a lot happier but to be crying...? Well. It takes a lot. I thoroughly enjoyed the Crossroads series. 5 stars. *****

Becca is at, Stanford as a medical student. She has always wanted, to be a pediatrician. She has always been confident about the love of her large family and extended family. As well as, the love and forever friendship and best friend since pre-school, Brian.

Brian may have started, as her rescuing ninja in pre-k on the slide. Now, however, he is sexier than sin, at 6’4’, hard body, and studying film at NYU. Becca can’t even tell you, how many times she's said the words, “He’s not my boyfriend.” Because nobody can imagine a boy and a girl as just friends.

For years it had been true as true could be. It may have been the climate or atmosphere of the family as a whole. But, all of Becca’s sisters had found or refound their one. Not to mention, the five all-male cousins her mom helped raise. All pretty much saying, marriage was not for them, however, all are either engaged or married now to their true one.

But, it's at Haley and Eddie's wedding when Becca got a little tipsy and announced to Jessie that Brian is her lobster, a reference to the show, Friends. Yet, their life-altering kiss didn't happen until he had gotten her sleeping self safely in her bed.

It's now six months later, and Becca’s memory is somewhat, hazy about the kiss. Although, her vivid x-rated dreams and day snippets are intriguing. It's all she can do to keep them at bay when, Brian’s name pop’s up, every other second. But, she can’t remember what happens after that.

It's her summer vacation from school, and sure enough, her beloved ninja is picking her up at the airport. There is a stunted measure of affection, that is usually flowing freely. As if, something has gone, terribly wrong. This is when she finds out there will be a detour on the way home. One that will change their lives forever.

I love the closeness, the undying friendship, and the love they have for one another. I enjoy the emotional angst, and fiery reaction that comes, from what they both know is fake. But, shows their true feelings, for one another.
