This so called ' high -security facility' , Broadmoor has housed and treated some of the most dangerous notorious , mentally deranged killers in the black annals of British history -the Devils spawn - yet while the majority where safely incarcerated behind the grim walls and glistening barb wire others were free to kill again. Some even escaped and terrorised communities most shockingly with no accountability at all. Therefore this is a must read for everyone with an interest in homicidal insanity , serial murder and the true meaning of evil. Within these walls are stories that the faint hearted would avoid, are you brave enough to take the journey.

For a very long time I've had a fascination about the UK's asylum for the criminally insane Broadmore. Christopher Berry-Dee  gave a humorous foreword that made me more eager to read the book. I was not familiar with the author Boris Coster but his writing style brought an amusing way of using British English to describe the mentally ill and fake residents of Broadmoor, as he gave a thorough history of the maximum security correctional institution. At the time of its inception there weren't whole life terms given out there were minimum & maximum sentences or death. Solicitors saw Broadmoor as a place to help their clients escape the ultimate punishment due to being criminally insane at least at the time of the crimes.

What Boris Coster managed to do in an irrelevant manner will show the flaws of the institution and cracks in the UK's criminal justice system. This book is not for the easily offended, but it did make reading the history of Broadmoor much more entertaining than I would have imagined. References made to other books just made my TBR pile higher. I absolutely recommend this book of the UK's history of their criminal justice system and how they handled the "criminally insane".
