Bad ending and the beginning didn't express itself. I have so many questions like what happened before the event? How did the event happen? Do they stay? Do they go? And so many more questions. Frustrating!!
and I probably should have. This is a...quiet story. It is a bit monotone in its telling, but I don't necessarily mean that in a bad or boring way.
It unfolds unpredictably, initially, with Angela and Ann walking, improbably, from Florida to Las Vegas, looking for Angela's father. (Spoiler) A goal that encompassed all of volume one and most of volume two only to inevitably amount to nothing. However, I can't predict how it will move forward.
In this second volume, the character development is basically nonexistent. That is, they don't seem to evolve. They don't appear to grow closer, or to understand each other better, or to unite in common goals...i will just leave that statement as is, except to say that Angela is becoming...well kind of predictable and not interesting.
Nonetheless, it is intriguing and a very different post-apocalyptic story and worth the read.
Two young women embark on a journey across the North American continent after a pair of disasters have destroyed civilization as we know it. They're brave, resourceful, persevering, and very, very fortunate.
The post-apocalyptic world is portrayed vividly and convincingly, and the merits and evils of human nature in desperate, crisis-ridden times and environments are also powerfully displayed. There are many moments of horror, but also moments of triumph as the protagonists experience success in their mission to survive and to find a place to settle.
As I read, I alternately loathed and enjoyed the story and the people in it. I was also terrified... but a little hopeful at the end.
I get all the way through the book, right to the very last page, right?, and its like, where's the end of the book? And no mention of a sequel ? Why did I even bother reading this? .
As an ‘after the end of the world story,’ I found it to be extremely enveloping, with well crafted characters leading me through very descriptive landscapes on a journey of growth and discovery. It’s well written (beyond a few typos) and definitely worth a read!
I enjoyed this book. It's not joyful, there's no happy ending, but you know that going in. These are two young girls, on their own, and they make a trip across the new North America and live through it. I would recommend it for a quick and interesting read.
I think this was a really good book. Not a ton of violence or sexy talk, just enough to tell the story. The ending sucked, I mean the way it just ended. I was hoping to maybe read a bit about actual homesteading when they found their perfect place.
I found it hard to get into this book because it's so different than what I usually read. Interesting story. I'm usually not in to end of the world science fiction . But it was interesting. And I did finish it. So bring on another book.
No real conclusion. Goes on and on....not much in the way of character development. I would rather have not read the story. I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't.
