Having her ship hijacked by space pirates was bad.
Getting thrown into a cage sucked.
Being sacrificed to a crazed alien beast as some sick form of entertainment for those same pirates?
Yeah, that’s the pinnacle of a shitty day. Kessia Donovan of New Terra is on the way to her next job when her life goes sideways. In the space of a few hours she’s been kidnapped, stripped and offered up to the mercy of a terrifying alien. Assuming she’s about to become his dinner, she’s shocked when this brutal giant vows to protect her. Stolen from his planet and kept like an animal in a cage, Baron is just waiting for a chance to escape. When it finally comes, he finds a female unlike any he’s ever seen. Small, soft and curvy with a scent that tantalizes and taunts his mating instincts. He wants her. But first he has to get them both out of this situation alive. With her brains and his brawn, they will form an unlikely alliance – and perhaps much more.

This book contains mature situations that may bother some readers including violence and sexual situations.

"I had intended to put on a show of taking you. I admit I lost control of the situation."

So MMC sexually assaults the FMC to 'protect her' (he was going to *pretend* but apparently the terrified crying woman got his dick hard and he couldn't help himself, oops!) and three minutes later she forgives and trusts him and they're laughing companionably. Reasonable. After all, he didn't *mean* to SA her! She's not even upset after his explanation, because that would be inconvenient for the romance plot.

I specifically purchased this because the author promotes this as having a cinnamon roll MMC. He not only SAs her but immediately, repeatedly ogles her after. That is cinnamon roll behavior on what planet?

LETS GOOOOOO!! This was what I was wanting in my search through the Hoopla abyss 😌😌😌

It was sooo sweet and hot af (the devotion!! The protection!!)
I enjoyed the writing too like it was descriptive in a way I really enjoyed for the in between/logistical things (making a bathroom, cleaning spaces after taking over the ship etc etc) Like I think the author is neurodivergent or just thinks like me tbh
Also I had an epiphany that I like alien romance because the communication is usually really blunt and honest and literal (aliens are autism coded and I’ll die on that hill)

Wow! Great story💖💖🔥🔥

This is a brand new author for me. It wasn't wildly expensive so I decided to give it a try and I'm so happy I did!
Kessia is a Terran and she's on her way to her new job. She said goodbye to her parents and excitedly boarded her starship that was going to start a whole new journey for her. What she didn't bargain for was being raised and boarded by insect like space pirates ready to abuse her and sell her to the highest bidder. When she's thrown into a cell with a huge beast with four arms she's thinks her life is over until he whispers in her ear " I'll protect you, "! Baron was taken off his planet when the insect like space pirates stopped on his world to steal rare animals to sell. He and his younger brother were hunting when he sacrificed himself so that his brother could getaway. He's been forced to fight for the pirates amusement and they don't seem to realize that he is actually an intelligent being and not an animal. When his tormentors open his cave and throw a small fragile being in he knows that if he doesn't find a way to help it that bad bad things will happen. When he realizes it's a female a very beautiful one of a species he's never encountered he goes to care for and protect her with everything he has. As they both fight back and escape the confines of his cell they work together as a team to bring down the pirates and along the way grow to respect and care for one another greatly. As the danger grows more intense so do their feels and passion grows and love soon follows. There is so much tough on and th end definitely leaves you with the hope of a second book. Great world building, I really loved the main characters their chemistry was fabulous and I'm really looking forward to reading more from this author!🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥

Perfectly balanced story and my first for this author

I love this take on abduction. The characters were both easy to fall in love with and the story a unique twist on the trope. The story felt perfectly balanced between serious and sweet while keeping to the plot without bogging it down or leaving it lacking.

The hero is a cinnamon roll guardian with serious “Goliath” protector feels minus any rage moments and plus serious bow-chick-a-wow-wow appeal. Seriously melt worthy personality and the strength to back it.

The heroine is one of a few that I would not change something about. Her character was such a joy and relief for me. So many females in stories like this are pushed too far into hard or snarky or b***hy. She was not and I reveled in her being a “normal” relatable feeling character with a beautiful personality to match.

I sincerely look forward to the next book in this series and am glad to add Sarah Winters to my must read authors list.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, my first from this author. Kessia was a tough little human with skills that came in handy during their early time together. She ends up a captive and then stripped, thrown into a cage for her captors pleasure. That being the rippling Baron, an alien being but one who protects her. They have quite a journey in getting their freedom and desposing of their captors! They both grow to care for each other, deeper over time. I loved Baron's experience with the oranges and keeping that find, to take with them. Even his mother! Though there is more to come, it does end with a HEA, for now. You know they will have more adventures and still have Baron's brother to find. Please don't keep us waiting too long! :)

A Protector and a Planner

This book was not at all what I expected. It was way more exciting and romantic than the blurb revealed. Two beings held captive by an evil race of aliens , forced together as entertainment. But their captures made a mistake. Instead of ravishing the little human, Xebaronik only sought to protect her. Initially I thought the two were only trauma bonded, but as Baron and Kessia worked together to free themselves from their captivity it quickly became obvious that it would end much more than bonded by their trauma. It was exciting and so hot! The world building was awesome and I hope to read a book where they find the missing brother.

While this book is much shorter than my normal reads, I'm so glad I gave it a chance.

I thought Baron and Kessia made a great team as they worked together to regain their freedom, and had great chemistry between them. This was a fun read from beginning to end, and I'm glad it sounds like these characters will continue on in the series even though they got their HEA.

great world building

4.5 stars I almost feel like this book beginning was the "same old same old" tale. I was pleasantly surprised that no this story had more depth. The world building was so imaginative. The heroine was so much a girl next door. The hero was so kind and caring. I enjoyed it. I want to read more by this author.

Amazing story

I absolutely loved this story. Kept me hooked from their first meeting! When Baron took off his cloak, I was actually surprised. Though my favorite part was the sweet ending!
Hopefully the brother gets his own book!

Short, size difference steamy read

I liked the characters, but I thought the 'bestial' part of their relationship was very superficial. The primal play was very subdued and the description of the size difference didn't extend beyond the saying he was a very big guy.

Still great potential so 3.5 rounded up to 4.
