In the Unnatural Quarter, the Plot Thickens... and then runs uncontrollably!
When Howard Phillips Publishing announces the 12 + 1 anniversary edition (due to unavoidable production delays) of the famed Necronomicon—the very book that caused the Big Uneasy in the first place—it takes zombie P.I. Dan Chambeaux, a.k.a. “Shamble,” to root out the diabolical schemes surrounding the book, and the fanatics who wish to destroy it.
With enough plot twists to confound a professional contortionist, Dan Shamble doesn’t have time for light reading. Along with his ghost girlfriend Sheyenne, his firebrand lawyer partner Robin, his best human friend Officer Toby McGoohan, and his ultra-cute vampire half-daughter Alvina, Dan faces an unnatural caseload.
Entire neighborhoods in the Quarter have simply vanished into thin air.
Rogue werewolf cop Hairy Harry struggles to write and market his memoir.
Customer complaints turn monstrous over an auto-mechanic shop run by gremlins, to whom “repair” is a foreign concept.
And when unnatural doppelgangers appear in the shadowed streets, it does not mean double the fun.
Entangled in it all is the mousy virgin librarian—now turned superstar celebrity—whose blood sacrifice, through an accidental paper cut, brought back all the monsters thirteen years ago.
Yes, I have a lot of books, and if this is your first visit to my amazon author page, it can be a little overwhelming. If you are new to my work, let me recommend a few titles as good places to start. I love my Dan Shamble, Zombie P.I. series, humorous horror/mysteries, which begin with DEATH WARMED OVER. My steampunk fantasy adventures, CLOCKWORK ANGELS and CLOCKWORK LIVES, written with Neil Peart, legendary drummer from Rush, are two of my very favorite novels ever. And my magnum opus, the science fiction epic The Saga of Seven Suns, begins with HIDDEN EMPIRE. After you've tried those, I hope you'll check out some of my other series.
I have written spin-off novels for Star Wars, StarCraft, Titan A.E., and The X-Files, and I'm the co-author of the Dune prequels. My original works include the Saga of Seven Suns series and the Nebula Award-nominated Assemblers of Infinity. I have also written several comic books including the Dark Horse Star Wars collection Tales of the Jedi written in collaboration with Tom Veitch, Predator titles (also for Dark Horse), and X-Files titles for Topps.
I serve as a judge in the Writers of the Future contest.

Double Booked is filled with Dan Shamble’s ghoulish zombie humor and all the loveable characters we’ve grown to love from this series. Once again, Dan, his ghostly girlfriend, Sheyenne, his human lawyer partner, Robin, and his vampire half-daughter, Alvina, are trying to save the unnatural quarter of the world after The Big Uneasy brought all manner of monsters to life. Dan Shamble is charged with the protection of the retired eccentric librarian who some say is responsible for bringing about The Big Uneasy, but when whole neighborhoods begin disappearing and the book behind it all is stolen, Dan Shamble has more than enough to keep him shambling through the Unnatural Quarter trying to solve this double mystery.
And here we go again, once again we meet Dan and his ghoulish gang and the loveable cast of characters. We are once again united with Dan Shambles, his ghost girlfriend Sheyanne, the vampire half-daughter Alvina, his human partner Robin. And in this adventure, we get not one but two mysteries.
Kevin J. Anderson has such a talent to take every horror trope, every noir PI trop, puns abuse them and take them to write a kick ass entertaining humorous story. He has taken everything above and more and tossed in a basket and written Dan Shambles. This series has great characters and solid stories that flow between each book. And I look forward to each future book.
Kevin J. Anderson has written the perfect balance of action, suspense, surprise, laughter, and wow. If you haven't tried this series yet, you gotta try it. You are going to love it.
Dan Chambeaux and his Crew are back in top form for this latest adventure which threatens the Big Uneasy itself!
The puns fly fast and heavy in this latest story from the superb creative mind of Kevin J Anderson. The pace is good and steady, and his writing is always top-notch. You'll enjoy this addition to the cases of Dan Shamble. There's also an interesting description of the first days after the Big Uneasy occurred. Get this one; you won't be disappointed!
This is a comedy mystery with lots of puns. I believe this is book number six in the series. The entire series S hysterically funny. This book is good, but doesn’t live up to the quality of the previous entries. It was still a fun mystery. Explores the origins of the big uneasy.
I feel like the humor wasn’t up to the quality of the previous entries. It was still there just not as funny. I don’t know if Kevin has just run out of ideas. The first four or five books are still worth going back and rereading.
This is an excellent book. It takes a different approach to a typical PI book by the main character, and most others, being unnaturals. This includes zombies, werewolves, vampires and the like. It could have been very dark but was kept lighthearted by the humor and absurdity of the situation. This was the first book in the series I’ve read but it’s actually the 8th in my series. Now I really want to read the others. I already have the first one checked out.
It actually takes a lot of talent to use and abuse every horror trope, noir PI trope and pun, and write a highly entertaining and humorous story, Kevin J Anderson does that and more with the Dan Shamble series. Great characters and a solid story, and this is book 9! I am looking forward to book 10. Check this series out, well worth the time.
Authors are good at describing their own industry. I have to wonder why more readers are not aware of the processes involved in reproducing a original book. To anyone who understands the publishing world the end was not a big surprise. Still a good read.
