There’s a lot that can happen in two minutes or less…
Kendall “Snoop” Dogwood has something to prove.
After a devastating ending to his first year with the Houston Skyhawks, getting redemption is the only thing on the veteran quarterback’s mind coming into the new season. But when a picture of him and a woman he barely knows, but wants to get to know, goes viral on social media, it doesn’t take long before Kendall finds himself on a different kind of mission going into year two.
A mission to pursue her.
As a social media influencer and the daughter of a well-known sports bettor, Shakira “Kiki” Knight is used to seeing her face tied to all sorts of internet gossip. What she’s not used to is having an actual crush on whoever she’s rumored to be involved with. But when it comes to Kendall Dogwood, Shakira just can’t seem to contain her attraction, especially once she learns the Skyhawks quarterback is equally interested in her.
Considering the messy way in which her last relationship with an NFL player ended, Kendall is probably the last man Shakira should be checking for. And after Shakira’s sports gambling ties are unveiled, the conflict of interest makes her the woman Kendall should probably be avoiding at all costs. But the instant chemistry between the two of them makes both of those things worth looking past for the sake of being together… until the stakes get higher and there’s more than just a game on the line.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, unproblematic couples are my jam! Snoopy and Shaky came through with all the romantic feels and I was 100% here for it! I absolutely love how uncomplicated their love journey was. Their chemistry, attraction, and vibe are what romance novels are made of. The kitchen meet and greet was cuteness overload. Shakira was instantly attracted to Kendall and Sis wasted no time shootin' her shot. Her bold personality was the perfect match to his strong and silent persona. The feelings Shakira and Kendall had for each other came through the pages loud and clear. It felt like I had a front row seat for every text message, DM, or facetime they exchanged. Public displays of affection were not their enemy. Theses two were definitely sprung off each other. The family dynamics were beautifully displayed. I loved Kendall’s relationship with his mama and sisters and how they supported one another. Auntie Iris was, lowkey, a creep and Papa Stew was a gambling addict but, those were Shakira’s peeps and she stood beside em’. Alexandra Warren penned the hell out of those game scenes. It felt like I was in the skybox watching every touchdown, tackle, and interception. Chile, I was stressed during the playoff game. Whew! Two Minute Warning was such a good book. It was romantic, sexy, and funny as hell. If you’re a true fan of sports romance then, add this one to your TBR expeditiously.
😥😥 Omg why was this sooooooooo good. But, it's Miss warren. I should not have expected less. This was pure love. From the first meet to everything in between. When Shakira and Kendall started getting to know one another through the text messages, the DMs, and the FaceTime, this was my face the entire time: 😁😃😀😍🤩. My face hurted. Kendall was sooo humble. Even being the starting QB, he wasn't flashy or obnoxious, and, get this: He did not have a plethora of girls around. He was a one woman's man. Shakira's man. My dude was chill, laid-back and loved him some Shakira. Their compatibility was almost tangible. I loved them together. As for sweet, beautiful Shakira, I don't have much to say about her. Except that I loved her thoroughly. I loved her. She loved and supported her man. Ya'll, I swear the way the author wrote the last game, I was there. I was at the stadium. I was so tense, I was stressed, I felt all the emotion Shakira and the girls felt. Ms. Warren wrote that scene sooooo well you guys. When I tell you, this book was a breath of fresh air. And I loved every single page. I can't wait for more Houston Skyhawk. A.W is one of the best best to ever do it 🙌🏾 All the ⭐️
I would give this book 10 stars if I could!!! It was soooooo good! It was an easy, refreshing love story🥰🥰. Just so pure and innocent! The character development was amazing and Kendall and Shakira were everything. I love a good sports love story and this book actually made me interested in football. I mean it was just the right amount of everything. Nothing was too over the top or unbelievable. It was a very realistic love story. The family and friendship throughout was thoroughly enjoyable! This was an ENTERTAINING book… from the flirting to the sliding in DMs. I loved everything about this story! I need more Snoopy and Shakey in my life 🥰🥰
Nailed it!! I loved everything about this one. From the way that these two met, sports betting, meddling exes and background noises that come with relationships. This book was so stinking cute! I literally could not get enough of Snoop & Kiki- out of everything they endured, they still were solid and each other’s safe place. Very good read!
What was there not to love about this book..absolutely loved everything about this book…Seeing them slowly fall in love..her getting him that birthday gift everything about this story was perfect 🥰🥰…can’t wait to read the rest of the series hopefully there’s a book about Ana & her “boo”
I absolutely love this series. Snoop and KiKi were adorable. Snoop is book Bae material. Kiki was fictional bestie material. The family dynamics was a welcomed bonus. Momma Dogwood almost hijacked the book. This series has definitely added Alexandra to my favorite author list.
Kendall and Shakira were adorable! Kendall is feeling down about his past and future as a quarterback. He is invited to a house party where Shakira, the host herself, refuses to leave him alone until his frown is turned upside down! It’s no surprise at all where an innocent picture of them together is leaked to the press, who assume these two are #couplegoals. Though far from the truth, it’s this picture that brings these two together for the start of something beautiful.
From the outside, these two seemed like opposites, but at their core, they were both big family people & open to receive love when they least expected it. I loved how the author highlighted Shakira’s career as an influencer just as much as she highlighted Kendall’s football career. They supported each other so much! Of course, this author knows how to write smexy times cause the chemistry was on FIRE. The audio makes it even smexier because Wesleigh and Jakobi know how to do their thing!
I’m ready for Anastasia’s book now!
TROPES: Black romance/BIPOC; sports romance (football); influencer heroine
TRIGGER WARNINGS: gambling addiction (parent); loss of a parent due to drug addiction
Update 7/2/22: Still soo good! I’m ready to figure out what wide receiver had Anastasia caught up though! I have thoughts!
Original review 6/23/22
What a sweet love! Whimsical love at first sight maybe! I love easy romance where the love just happens and feels right. There’s no drama within the couple the drama comes from outside. Snoop and Kiki hit it off from the start and came together through someone else’s hate and that’s pretty cool if someone’s hate for you lands you in an amazing relationship. We go through the journey of Snoop getting his starting spot back and navigating having a gf, Kiki. Kiki we get to see her go from single baddie to baddie in a relationship!! I like how Alexandra let us know Kiki wasn’t dumb and just chose a route in life that made her money. A takeaway I think is important because college isn’t for everyone and there are other ways to be successful! I will say Zara and Kim were annoying for opposite reasons but both enough I had to mention it lol. Loved the updates from book 1 and possible hints to a book 3! I will say I need to go back to the Nymphs and Trojans series because I felt left out when characters were referenced. You don’t need to read them before this book but you’ll get the references better! Overall this was an easy enjoyable read and one I will probably go back to! The epilogue or final chapters were super sweet and I loved every sec of it! Definitely recommend!
Just like everyone else I lovedddddd this book so much. To read the love that blossomed between Snoop & Kiki kept me cheesing. I read this book slow AF because I didn’t want it to end. Their relationship was very much drama free besides that damn pesky ex Enzo. Like boyyyyy scram! lol and that gambling situation Shakira daddy put them through. If you love football, it’s all up in through here. Very detailed.
From beginning to end, Alexandra Warren had me all in with Snoop and Shake! I adored their vibe, their chemistry, their friendship. I loved being able to witness the very beginning of their relationship and it really just made sense. This was such a great story.
Absolutely loved that there was more focus on the actual football games played on the field. Super exciting, especially when Snoop plowed through Enzo knocking him on his "keister" exactly the way he deserved!!!
However, I must confess that I am thoroughly ashamed, of how I unfairly judged Shakira, in much the same way, a lot of the other characters did. It reminded me of just how much gossip and outright lies can destroy a person's reputation.
Shakira and Snoop are perfect together and I'm happy they decided to do the right thing where her sleazy father was concerned.
4-4.5 stars I really liked this couple. It’s refreshing to read about a couple that communicates well and supports each other (even though I do love messy, lol!). In these cases, I usually need something else to keep me from getting bored though, and here I think it was supposed to be football. As someone who actively dislikes the game, there was a bit too much of it for me in the second half of the book, but that’s really the only thing that kept this book from being 5 stars.
✔️ Dual POVs (Snoop x Kiki) ✔️ Set in Houston ✔️ Open-door contemporary sports romance (3.5/5 🌶️) ✔️ Tropes: Sports romance
This is a pretty straightforward sports romance. I loved the couple, who had instant chemistry with a solid meet-cute. There is a good amount of actual sports in this, which can read a little tedious on the page. Her dad’s gambling addiction is the central conflict of this book (with some minor family drama on his side, too), and it was resolved just a touch too tidily for my tastes.
Two Minute Warning (Houston Skyhawks #2) by Alexandra Warren is about quarterback Kendall “Snoop” Dogwood and social media influencer Shakira “Kiki”Knight. Let me just say this, THIS BOOK WAS WORTH THE WAIT!! From the moment Shakira and Kendall meet the attraction is potent and the chemistry is natural. I mean, that meet cute gave me everything 🥰 Shakira is bold and Kendall is the strong silent type but when he does talk 🤤 he matches Shakira’s energy. They are so sweet off each other from the jump, no false pretences. Their communication is top tier! Kendall is husband material: loving, affectionate, supportive and family oriented. Shakira is so intentional and thoughtful when it comes to her Snoopy. This book gave me all the FEELS; every embrace, kiss, picture snapped, DM and text exchanged. They are never embarrassed to show each other love or look sprung. Both Shakira and Kendall lead busy lives but they always make time for each other. Kendall is not playing with her, Shakira may have made the first move(s) but he applies pressure! He is on his grown man ish! It doesn’t the hurt that the sex is sexing 🔥, with the chemistry these two have that’s no surprise though! The family dynamics are great and each gave something different. Snoop’s younger sister Anastasia, his mom and Gerald are my fav secondary characters 😂. I love that we got to see who they were outside of their professions. Shakira is about her money but also about spending quality time with those she loves. She’s always hosting a gathering, cooking and baking up a storm when she’s not booked & busy. Kendall having a degree, a plan for after football and his love for animals added something special to the story. Alexandra Warren does a great job of writing fleshed out characters. I highly recommend this book especially if you’re a fan of sport romances.
P.s. I’m ready for Hunter’s book! The Houston Skyhawks series is a hit!
Sports romances are my fave and Alexandra does not disappoint.
Kiki and Snoop hit it off at one of Kiki's little kick backs, but they don't capitalize on the moment. Kiki a social media influencer and Snoop an NFL QB find themselves thrown together in the age of the internet. Truth be told they were both intrigued by one another and they decide to see where that connection might lead them. I loved this couple because they were unproblematic and fine. They very much matched each other's fly. Snoop was definitely Book Bae! He was confident, fine, sweet, intelligent, with the right amount of aggressiveness. Most importantly he was loyal, he was focused and didn't entertain anyone but Kiki. Kiki was everything too. Sis was booked and busy and stayed getting to the bag. She was funny, beautiful, sassy, smart, and protective. She definitely looked out for the people she loved without hesitation. Oh and Kiki was a regular chef in the streets and made sure to spoil her friends and family with good food. Together they were nasty....mmm hmm lol. Physically they were definitely in sync. They also seemed to just genuinely want the best for each other, it always felt like love before they knew it was love.
I enjoyed the sub characters, Kiki's suspect dad and her rachet friends added flavor to the story. Snoop's teammates were annoying and they kept me laughing. Snoop's family also really helped with character development.
Overall I really enjoyed the lack of conflict between the couple. I appreciated them navigating outside forces together. I wanted them to relate a little more around the loss of a parent, I felt like that was a missed opportunity to connect. I however am locked in on these characters and can't wait to see how Snoop's teammates go in on him because they were so right about his relationship.
I'm looking forward to the next book which I predict is Anastasia and Hunter.
I absolutely loved this book. It had two fantastic main characters, it was surprisingly intense and emotional. spicy, and great football rep. I could tell Ms. Warren is an actual football fan. Detail... Anywho, she is going to mess around and make me a Houston pro football fan. I can't wait for the next book. Happy reading!
This was so very sweet and cozy and had the attention to sports details I’ve been told to expect from an Alexandra Warren sports romance. Something about the way this was written just felt really good. I was smiling from ear to ear the entire time. I liked that there wasn’t any extremes it was a low angst, well written, fun and romantic read!
Shaky & Snoopy!! I absolutely loved this one! I found myself smiling and giggling the whole time I read it. Kendall is a professional football player and Shakira is a Social Media Influencer. Kendall and Shakira are a match made in heaven. The way these two cared about each other and how they took care of one another was so special. There were so hiccups along the way but the love between was genuine and far from toxic, which is so refreshing! Kendall didn’t play about Shakira and she didn’t play about her man! I would love to read more about them. 10 out of 10!!
There was something different about this one. A few times I wanted to have a different experience with the main couple. Their connection was solid sexually, and the friends action in the story was sorta aloof for me. I cannot put my finger on the discord in harmony. Overall, I liked Kendall a lot, he was a good fit for Shakera. Their connection and interactions were always ripe. But, Shakeria's dad had me shaking my head anytime he was mentioned. Anastasia was my favorite. She and Snoop had an amazing relationship. I liked this edition, and meeting this couple.
If you like instalove and football, I think you’ll adore this one. CW for gambling addiction, overdose of a parent, addiction to prescription pain killers, toxic ex.
I have no idea why I almost skipped this book, but I'm so glad I didn't. This was a great, low relationship angst, slightly higher external angst, friends to lovers romance. Alexandra Warren has such a fun writing style that feels realistic without being boring. Both Kendall and Shakira were well-developed characters too, I love when an author can make me care equally about the MMC and the FMC. I really appreciated the dialogue and banter...just the overall communication was so well done. Also I live for a sports romance with actual sports content. So though I'm not really a football fan, I liked that inclusion here. I don't read a lot of books with content creators as FMCs but I liked how it was portrayed here and Kendall was really supportive of her too, both of which I appreciated.
I do think some of the external plotlines were wrapped up too quickly/neatly.. it wasn't egregious but since the romance itself was relatively low angst, I felt like there could have been room to flesh out some of the other plot moments and make their resolution feel a bit fuller. So even though I liked a lot of the elements of this romance, I do think those moments brought it down a bit for me.
This is sitting between a 4 and 4.5. Overall, I'm just really glad I finished this duology...definitely convinced me to read more of Alexandra Warren's backlist!
Hands down! This story was IT from the very first page. The banter, the chemistry, the love… this author showed off with Snoopy & Shakey! Absolutely a lovely book. Happy reading 💖
5 star read!!! From beginning to end, this was such a good read that I swallowed in literally less than 12 hours. I started at 7AM and was finished by 6PM...i could not put it down. The way Shake and Snoop loved on one another was brillant and lovely. It was such as good wholesome story that did not include a lot of extra drama (basically her father and his addiction) and showed how a great story could not fall totally off the rails. I was almost unsure of a sports foundation...however, the author blended sports and romance very well. So, so good! But I couldnt expect anything less from Alexandra Warren. Her writing is basically unmatched.
I was so hyped up for this book! That kitchen scene when Kendall and Shakira first met was everything! Unfortunately, this book fell flat for me. It’s like something was missing. While I really did like these characters individually, their love was not believable. I just felt like we were missing more chemistry buildup. I just didn’t connect with them as a couple. Overall this was a decent read.
What a great sports romance! That playoff game had me on the edge of my seat as if I was watching it on the screen. It is apparent that the writer did her research and gave us realism. The chemistry between Kendall and Shakira lit up the pages and their coupling was genuine and authentic, not forced. I was grateful that there were no crazy exes lurking. Enzo does not count as he qualified as a F** boy on steroids. Well done story.
The storyline was cute, okay. The main couple professional basketball player Kendall (Snoop) Dogwood and blogger Shakira (KiKi) Knight was cute, ok. I mean, everything was cute about their loving relationship, okay, ok...! All thanks to author Alexandra Warren.
