It Continued at Pemberley The sequel to It Started at Pemberley, a What If? Novel by Jennifer Lang, Elizabeth and Darcy’s wedding day is the start of an eventful year. The Bingleys, Bennets, Lucases, de Bourghs and Fitzwilliams all make an appearance, but it is Elizabeth and Darcy who are at the heart of the novel. Follow them through the joys and challenges of their first year of marriage, culminating in the birth of their first child. For maximum reading pleasure, this book should be read after It Started at Pemberley. However, a brief summary of It Started at Pemberley is included at the back of the book (accessible from the menu) for those who would like to dive straight in, or for those who would like to be reminded of the first novel.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5 stars. This story was 418 pages on my Kindle. However, I have to point out as other reviews also stated: this story did not come to a complete end. There are many threads left dangling.
As Book 2 this is not a stand alone story. However, the author does give the reader a short summary of the first book at the end of this story.
Elizabeth and Darcy are married but it is not all smooth sailing at the beginning as Elizabeth is given tours of various parts of Pemberley. Oddly, Darcy shrugs off her questions about...first a rusty key found among things in the boat house and secondly a locked door hidden behind a tapestry that is moved during preparations for the ball they are giving. Elizabeth leaves the estate without saying farewell to go home to Longbourn and there to nurse Jane who is ill at Netherfield.
Others events include Richard and Charlotte settling in the steward's house, Anne becoming a more active part of the story, and Georgiana blossoming as both Elizabeth, Kitty and Charlotte help her open up. Lydia also manages to compromise one of the Lucas boys but Mr. Bennet only allows a 2 year secret engagement.
A decision is made to begin a stud on estate grounds. A trip to London to Tattersall's to buy horses finds a new character there and he reveals some previously unknown characteristics which, in turn, lead to questions about the deaths of certain wealthy individuals who just happened to have named this man as their heir. I won't identify him as that would be a spoiler. And he has a connection with Anne now.
Caroline Bingley and George Wickham have a big part in this story but we never learn how their parts intersect with the Darcys. So is there a third book coming out?
This story was interesting and there is some angst. Jane and Elizabeth have a disagreement about the part a certain couple will play in their lives. Jane believes they are due a second chance; while Elizabeth points out how she cannot trust them as their past speaks for itself.
Others have mentioned it and I will repeat it: there are many errors in this book. I highlighted many of them. Some are as simple as "the" instead of "she".
A rather lovely and emotion packed variation inspired by author Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Jennifer Lang. Since major plot points are yet unresolved I am guessing that a third book is planned.
This a good follow-up to book 1. Really enjoyed some of the twists and turns. Hopefully we will get a 3rd there is still more story to be told I am thinking
For the best reading experience the books should be read in order.
It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. The story is well written with a very good storyline. You will see the most beloved characters in a whole new way. This is a Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice variation. This is book 2 of 4 in the Pemberley Continues series Elizabeth and Darcy’s wedding day is the start of an eventful year. The Bingleys, Bennets, Lucases, de Bourghs and Fitzwilliams all make an appearance, but it is Elizabeth and Darcy who are at the heart of the novel. Follow them through the joys and challenges of their first year of marriage, culminating in the birth of their first child. So with all that and more this story pulls you in and holds you tight. It’s a must read. I highly recommend to everyone.
While you got to go back and follow up with the characters from the first book, there wasn't a whole lot of happiness in it. There was angst that created discomfort, distance, and conflict between the normally steady relationships that was never resolved. I feel like an epilogue was needed as several things were set up for characters but you never get a true feeling for how it turned out, especially with Kitty, Lydia, Caroline, and Wickham (which is actually like half the characters). The relationships felt naturally built and maintained and the developments in them were normal and believable, just not really enjoyable or in a way where you felt like everything worked itself out.
I enjoyed reading this book even though there were several slow spots at the beginning. It’s an enjoyable read without a lot of tension although there are villains (Caroline Bingley and George Wickham) to spice things up! If you want to hang out with the Darcy’s on a day-to-day basis you’ll like this book. Personally, I love the P&P sequels because reading the original always left me wanting more. The author does justice to the characters and that’s very important to me.
