Kakori a small place near Lucknow is witness to one of the very first battle of resistance against the British Raj. This place holds a very significant incident of Indian History. The book gives a general idea of the Kakori incident, a train robbery in a relatively small village near Lucknow that reignited the fire of independence amongst Indians after the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, the first war of Independence. A robbery that shook the British Raj from their very core rendering more such fierce battles of independence to come their way. An enticing journey, deeply emotional yet inspiring that is completely different from what our mainstream history has taught us.
The story goes on with the first person narrative of Ram Prasad Bismil, who plays a pivotal role in shaping Indian History. He was one of the proponents of bringing the youths together and founded the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA). This book narrates the situation of that time giving a glimse of political unrest amongst parties and how extreme conditions led to one of the most dynamic and most organised approach of revolt of our history. Throughout the book good flow is maintained by stacking the plots one top of another in an alligned timeline. It has wonderfully captued the characters, the mental turmoil, adversaries, extreme poverty and unrest amongst the youths, most important their relentless pursuit to thrive and free the nation from the shackles of British Raj is magnificently reflected in the writing.
Though beautifully penned it lacks details and very repetitive in some places. It gives a basic outline of the whole story stretched from the beginning of HRA to the ending of the Kakori incident, would have liked to see more details and complexities behind the whole ordeal and what happened after that. Moreover it gives just a glimpse of political situation, it would have been much more enlightening and profound to know the whole situation at large and understand the same.

Ram Prasad Bismil, the book reverting to his legend. When India was unsettled with the flow of cognitive activities of patriotism and the colonial government brutally killed, caged, and thrashed their young blood amidst the dark prison rooms, once again the story is speaking here and embark the saga of the first fist that blew towards British Raj, it was considered the first most explosive and impactful movement of revolution.
This book offers a first-hand account of the Kakori train robbery incident from the history of India's freedom fighting movement against Britishers. The formation and the aftermath of that faithful day 9 August 1925.
This book also displays a clearer picture of grassroots freedom fighter's life, their emotions, and their work which was overshadowed a lot of time by higher positioned political leaders. They were neglected, didn't have the training, higher education, and proper ammunition except for the love of their nation, and often they were even unacknowledged when they were alive.
"My country is my home and I do not want to serve anymore. I believe in the capability and integrity of my countrymen and refuse to bow down to a foreign master. "
With simple language along with philosophical prose author, Prachi takes us to the life of Ram Prasad Bismil. Uncomplicated words are used herein to narrate the whole train robbery from Bismil's point of view. His emotions, his love, and care for fellow freedom fighters were drawn here with tremendous passion which I loved the most. How much he cared about his team, specially Manmath Nath, who unfortunately jeopardized that operation, was very heartfelt and the brotherhood he carried out to everyone was a heart-wrenching part of this book. And how much he advocated for education was simply brilliant. When Bismil regret his failure for lack of study and choosing the wrong person for the wrong job, and how desperately everyone wanted independence for their country, cast a pall of gloom in my heart, my heart went out.
Prachi Garg also documents the Last chapter from Chandra Shekhar Azad's POV, how Bismil's life was toyed with by the insurgents. The beautiful writing, those heart throbbing furry, the beauty of love for the country settled here only to end in a tragedy. The Britishers committed atrocities against freedom fighters by tagging them as hooligans, dacoits, and murderers. We saw them to sent Andaman for Sazaye Kala Pani and Bismil was sentenced to death just because of planning robbery only to reclaiming back what was ours.
I loved this book because Prachi Garg started every chapter with the poems of Ram Prasad Bismil

This one was the mission of near about 25 members of HINDUSTAN REPUBLICAN ARMY who were now just want to go fullest the hardest against the Britishers after the removal of non-cooperation movement.
They broke down the train in Kakori & looted cash & govt documents. The mastermind behind this is Sri Ram Prasad Bismil. The incident created a terrible terror within the British rulers.
This book retells a story where the narrator is Ram Prasad Bismil. It's completely a mint fresh venture where the author has rewrote the history through the vision of a valiant personality.
Every chapter starts with a new quote which I think was a really nice touch, and the cover is quite gorgeous as well. So a very nice overall presentation for the story.
All the characters are nicely developed and
perfectly presented in the book.
Author researched well before writing the book & that can easily makred while reading it as it gave some unknown informations about the historic event.
Overall, it's new, unique and deserves superlative complements only.

This book gives account of revolutionary - Ram Prasad Bismil and the train robbery that was the bold step against British Empire.
The biography is a sentimental saga of a freedom fighter, who has devoted his entire life to the motherland. With this biography, it also brings out the true colors of Gandhi and Nehru and their likes. And how they would forego anything just to be part of governance, which is evident in today's congress too.
Heart-wrenching, the narrative, should be read by everyone who enjoys the freedom and understand, at what cost that freedom came for.
I have not read this book for any reading pleasure, so cannot really comment on the anything apart from the sentiments portrayed by Bismil.

Many of us don't know how the Robbery of Kakori was planned and who planned it and how many people sacrificed their lives in this movement this robbery was planned to get the money from the British Empire which they took from the Indian people as a tax by harassing them, in this book you will come to know a lot about the Robbery of Kakori who done this and why it has been planned and how all freedom fighters got in jail because of betrayal.
When the incident happened the Kakori robbery was not looked upon as petty theft or a crime of violence. Instead, it was perceived as an event that had set the motion of revolution into a gigantic wave, this robbery was an eye-opener for the people who were asleep after the 1857 war, the people became more energetic and participated vigorously in the fight against British Government.
This book is about the story of Ram Prasad bismil and his robbery of kakori which was planned by them to get some money for growing the support of fellow Indians.
I am quite intrigued about the national movement of India after reading this book about Ram Prasad bismil and his comrades, this book has given me some light on the dark rule of the British government, and I would like to read more about the national movement.

A line that literally gave me goosebumps was- "My country is my home and I do not want to serve anymore."
This book is a beautiful historic fiction which talks about a time before the freedom struggle. The great big train-robbery which was the first step for the freedom moment that shook the Britishers to their very bones!
This book bring out the in depth details of the freedom moment and the struggles, the emotions and weariness of the freedom fighters, and it was a very insightful book that I think everyone should read. The author has done a fantastic job in narrating the tale, it's like giving voice to every single person who fought for our free India. The MC in this book is Ram Prasad Bismil on who's POV the book is written, the emotions and the love he had for his country is so much that our heart goes out to the poor man!
The book is written in single POV until the end and then another POV is introduced, the plot is well constructed, the emotional elements are well used, the characters are easily lovable and the historic element on the book is so powerful and impactful. Overall a good book for history lovers!

Kakori The Train Robbery that Shook the British Raj is a very interesting book based on true events presented in a very impressive way. This book has been written by Prachi Garg after a lot of research on the subject and this particular incident. There are many specialties in this book. It has been written based on the truths and facts and presented in a very simple way without trying to cover up in any way. In a way, while reading this story it takes its reader through a time machine back in time, we reach that era where the whole incident seems to be happening in front of our eyes. We feel each movement witnessing like a silent spectator. I felt as if I myself was a part of Ram Prasad Bismil's team. This is how I experienced this whole incident in the form of this story.
All the credit for this kind of phenomenal experience goes to its author who has written this story so vividly and vigorously. This is the story of Kakori train robbery incident which changed the course of revolution in the pre independence India. It has been rightly termed as the modern day first war of independence or a focus point of it. The book is from the first persons narrative. From the thoughts and words of a man who started the HRA,ingniting the youth with passion and love for their country. A man who was a firm believer in the power of books and channelising the energy of youth in the right direction.
The revolutionary, the man who inspired many freedom fighters like Chandra Shekar Azad, Bhagat Singh and many more. Ram Prasad Bismil recounts his days in the HRA, the live of the comrades,the equation and differences they shared with the Congressmen, the influence of Gandhi's principles of non violence on his life, the non cooperation movement and its abrupt closure and much more.
He gave an account of how the lives of the fellow comrades has impoverished and how they were struggling to have one decent meal a day. He also recounted why they hatched the Kakori plan, how it was implemented and the entire process.
Throughout this narration, I could see myself in that Train which was halted in Kakori and became a part of the comrades rooting for their victory.
The painful incidents which preceded after the Kakori incident and how our heroes sacrificed their lives, the intent and their vision is inspiring.
The book ends with the narration of Chandra Shekar Azad where he pens his thoughts about the same.

The men of Hindustan Republican Army (HRA) held up the 8 Down train at Kakori, an obscure village near Lucknow, & looted its official railway cash. Government crackdown after the Kakori Robbery led to arrest of many, of whom 17 were jailed, four transported for life and four - Bismil, Ashfaqulla, Roshan Singh and Rajendra Lahiri- were HANGED. (In a nutshell this was Kakori Robbery)

As a student and from my personal interest I've read about Indian Revolutionary Movements which was operating in Bengal, Punjab-UP-Bihar several times but honestly speaking I barely knew these minute details written in this book by Ms.Prachi Garg. And the most interesting part is that, the narrator of this book is Sri Ram Prasad Bismil. This dragged my attention immediately towards it's content.
The revolutionaries had faced so much repressions and tortures during the First World War hence they were extremely agitated with the British(including other obvious reasons) so they joined the non-cooperation movement and suspended their activities but the sudden withdrawal left many of them disillusioned and forced them to question the basic strategy of nationalist leadership.
The book shows us the scenario, the actual difficulties they faced and dealt with. Their objective was to overthrow the colonial government and establish in its place A Federal Republic of United States of India whose basic principle would be adult franchise.
Really appreciate the author's effort for selecting such an important topic and making it easy for the masses to read, comprehend and to understand the struggle & Importance of our freedom fighters. I love the writing style along and the descriptions, truly a good book. I think every Indian should read this book and books like this in general. You can definitely give it a try, and you'll not regret for sure.

This incident is still now unsung in history. It is just a mere event of robbery in the eyes of common people of India. But no! Actually it was the struggle for freedom , the fight for freedom. 'Kakori - The Train Robbery that Shook the British Raj' by Prachi Garg is a book that shows us the struggles that our freedom fighters had to go through to take back something which rightfully belonged to us - our Nation's freedom. The book describes a life changing moment for all when young freedom fighter Ram Prasad Bismil alongwith his Comrades - Ashfaqullah Khan, Chandrashekhar Azad, Thakur Roshan Singh, and Rajendra Lahiri plan to rob a Train to take back the money which was collected as tax and rightfully belonged to us and our country. All the plans were made and it was decided to stop the Train at Kakori a small town and to utilise this money for the freedom fight. On the decided day they set forth on this dangerous plan but Will things go according to the plans? To know read 'Kakori - The Train Robbery that Shook the British Raj'.
My Thoughts:
The book is well researched and I Iiked how it is from the perspective of Ram Prasad Bismil. We can actually get to see the struggles that these young revoluntaries had to suffer. Even at such a young age Ram Prasad Bismil decide to lead the youngsters of India to utilise their energy for a good cause.

It is a remarkable book. Author has done extensive research and has given references wherever applicable during the story and also at the end. It reflects the hard work and the true facts that have gone in writing this majestic book. The poems of Bismil before every chapter is icing on the cake.

Every Indian must have read/heard about the famous train robbery in Kakori which was executed in 1925 by a handful of HRA freedom fighters. It was one of the most revolutionary and symbolic acts of those days. Many books have been written about the same under nonfiction as well as fiction genres. One may question what's new in this book written by Prachi Garg? Well, not much, but the narrator. This book retells a story where the narrator is Ram Prasad Bismil, one of the main conspirators in the robbery. Written from the point of view of Bismil, the book highlights the disappointments of young revolutionaries when Mahatma Gandhi pulls back the non-cooperation movement against colonial rule and the circumstances that forced HRA members to conspire and execute a train robbery that would be remembered for centuries.
The book reconstructs the internal turmoils of Bismil and his retrospection over the conspiracy and its execution.
While the book is a nice attempt at retelling the story from the point of view of one of its main conspirators, it is not able to hold the interest for long. The concept is good, but the narration could have been better. There is too much philosophy, at times repetitive, which deviates from the main story. Also, the blurb on Amazon says this book is an intensely researched, comprehensive account with hard-hitting facts, but unfortunately, there isn't much in it which isn't easily available on the internet.
Overall, it's a book which may find its readers among those who are not aware of the Kakori Conspiracy. Others may give it a pass.

Kakori ,The Train robbery is a very famous incident that has a lot of importance in the history of freedom struggle. Being a responsible citizen I too was very well versed by it. But when I went through the read, I almost lost my senses. The grave reality behind the robbery was never brought to surface. The freedom that we enjoy today, is the gift of our freedom fighters ,who had to go through a lot of struggle and in human treatment.
The book is all about a group of revolutionaries united under the guidance ship of Ram Prasad Bismil, who gave design to the robbery. Multiple
reasons and purposes were responsible for this act ,that was an direct attack on the British Raj. One of the most important reason was, lack of resources and deficiency of money to sustain the revolution.
The money that was robbed was directly collected by the poor people ,who could not pay the taxes but we're forced to do so.

i m very much impressed with the way Prachi garg written this book.
Ram Prasad Bismil who we know as Freedom fighter but few of us know he is poet too.
The story get you to the predependence era.
Freedom was not given to us silver platter and many of heros toiled beyond to liberate our motherland from the shackers of british Rule.
Gandhian nature is non violence and gandhi is firmly believe in goodwill and cooperative relationship with british which Ram Prasad Bismil and many indians are not agree
The principle is simple

✨Ram Prasad Bismil the revolutionary is narrating his story about the Kakori train robbery from inside his prison cell about how he and his revolutionary friends attempted it which shook the British Raj as this was a big step someone had dared to take against them.
✨The story shows the struggle of freedom-fighters the ups and downs they went through, how difficult it was for them to do it without lack of resources. Author has done a amazing job connecting the dots.
✨The stress they went through be it emotional, physiological, or psychological the trauma they had to face the burden they had to bear with them is written very intricately.
✨Although at parts the story felt a drag the same thing was going on again and again, repetitive. According to the blurb the book is well researched but I didn't feel so. The book is moderately paced at times it felt very slow.
✨You can go for this book if you want to learn about the incident for the times they went through.
