Acontius et Cydippe (Acontius and Cydippe) is a story about two lovers who meet on the island of Delos, specifically a temple sacred to Diana. Acontius falls in love with Cydippe so he sings a song to her. Later on, the goddess Venus appears and gives him an apple to carve out an oath to Cydippe. He asks for her hand in marriage and she agrees. When Cydippe returns home, her father tries to get her to marry a different man, which gets her incredibly sick each time. Her father consults an oracle and he realizes that she need to marry Acontius for good health. When they finally marry, Cydippe is cured and they live happily together. Overall, I liked the storyline but the middle of the book kind of dragged on. The level of this book is Intermediate Mid, and I didn't find it to be too difficult. The book was in third person, and many words were repetitive. The pictures that were incorporated into each of the chapters also helped my understanding of what was going on, in case I was confused.
