In a frozen land where power and wealth are sought for at any cost, a dangerous old man seeks revenge on his children for crossing him one too many times.
"Spend a Winter in Hell" is a dark fantasy short story by Caleb M. Powers.
With the word Hell in the title, I was skeptical to read this short story at first, thinking there would be too much darkness and I'm not one for dark and scary plots, but the emphasis of this story is found elsewhere. Read this at night all curled up in a big blanket in front of a fire and be whirled into a different dimension.
Intense. Dark. Fantastic. This short story is seriously epic in more ways than one. You'll gasp out loud and be on the edge of your seat the entire time.
"Spend a Winter in Hell" is an interesting short story that dives into a fantastical world unlike our own. Manulf is a complex character with some sad motivations and a lust for power that cannot be quenched. Caleb M. Powers' words fly off the page, and while this one wasn't exactly my speed, I can appreciate how well-written it is.
