1 book with 12 stories - very well written - to the point without personal opinion - I had not heard of any but 1 and found out one had happened where I now live - most were solved and handled but there are a couple unsolved and believe they never will be - "that will keep you up at night" - Not a fast read due to the well explained murders.
The True Crime Storytime Volume 4 was a twisted set of stories that at times had me gaping and other times doing internet searches for validity because these could not be real. Yep, they were. All of them. Wowzers! It’s said that truth is stranger than fiction. No lie after reading this book! A must read for true crime enthusiasts!
1950s The Good Old Days - NOT! If you are a true crime fan I urge you to read this book. Or if you are a Sociology, Psychology, or History enthusiast I believe this book would intrigue you as well. The crimes take place in the so-called "idyllic" fifties. Where TV shows like Leave It To Beaver portray a typical American family living in the suburbs. As is the case in several of these stories housewives were alone in their homes sometimes with young children when the perpetrator attacked. How were the killers able to gain entrance so easily? Were the doors even locked? Were the women so trusting that they let in their killers without much persuasion?
Some of the murders turned into family massacres as the killer waited and killed each family member as they returned home. Even safe small town / rural communities were not immune. Sometimes these victims were easier targets. No one around to sound the alarm or neighbors assuming the person at the door was an expected visitor. Owning a gun was almost expected, but the home Invaders came locked and loaded as well. These hard-hearted murderers planned to leave no witnesses.
Despite the concerted efforts of law enforcement and the communities' citizens some of those cases are still unsolved to this day despite all the advances of DNA and other forensic methods. I like how the author named some chapters not just after the murderers and but also others after the innocent victims who were peacefully living their lives never anticipating an attack that would lead to their deaths.
At the same time the killers seemed very bold and confident that some continue to kill. I truly recommend this book that I easily read in one day. I also like that references were placed at the end of the book for further research.
I haven't read a true crime book in years so when I saw this offered as a giveaway I thought I'd give it a go. As promised in the introduction, it is easy to read in the sense that it doesn't contain a lot of literary words. It's pretty graphic in some of the stories, so if you like to get a visual the details help with that. I thought reading about crimes in the earlier part of the 20th century would be intriguing and it definitely was. I wouldn't suggest reading this before bed. I made sure to watch or read something mild before I went to sleep so bloody scenes wouldn't invade my dreams. Overall it was entertaining, if not a bit creepy. I did enjoy this book even though I don't like watching those true crime shows on television. I couldn't help empathizing with the victims, especially the unsuspecting ones and the children. The disturbing thing about these stories was that the crimes mentioned actually happened. This isn't fiction. They say real life is stranger than fiction and in the case of these stories... totally agree. I would read another book by this author and publisher.
True Crime Storytime Anthologies Volume 4 contains 12 Disturbing True Crime Stories (to Keep You Up All Night) by M. Moore and True Crime Seven. It's a collection of short, terrifying true crime cases. If you're a fan of true crime, you'll likely enjoy this installment. It delivers on the series' style of delving into dark and disturbing crimes, usually spanning several decades. Be forewarned, however, the content can be unsettling. If you're sensitive to violent details, this book may not be for you. I think readers will appreciate the book's exploration of these disturbing crimes and the insights of the criminal mind and the human capacity for evil. True Crime Storytime Volume 4 will take you, the reader into the depths of these heinous crimes and the chilling graphic details of the cases will intrigue and unsettle you for the duration of not only this anthology but, all of the volumes. I'll gladly recommend checking out this true crime series.
I don't know how I just seen this book normally I notice the day it was released. That being said I must admit it was well worth the wait abd my favorite so far in this series. First off only a couple I even knew about. Which now a days says a lot. Second, as always it is very well written and to the point without personal opinions. And finally, all of the above and so much more. If you are looking for a great true crime book then look no further. These authors are great!! The only thing I wish is they came out more often. But that is me being selfish!! Keep up the great work and as always I will continue to read and follow this and all series!!
3.5-4 These books are always a good overview of the cases they mention. The sections are not long or overly detailed, but you get the basic information if you have never heard of the case. The writing is not groundbreaking but it is good and True Crime Seven books are always quickly readable and interesting.
This is a quick and easy read, full of chilling tales that remind the reader how dangerous life can be. Stories of a mother killing multiple family members, a babysitter who was murdered, a perverted criminal who posed as a photographer while on a killing spree in California and many more. I’d recommended this book to any true crime fan looking for a good, quick read.
The 1940s and 50s—the era of the suburban sprawl—the perfect time to raise a family… or kill. It's a dig deep into the twisted thoughts and desires of killers. It was interesting to read about solved and unsolved murder cases, but also a bit disturbing that there are people who would so easily murder other people. It seems they are doing it just because they can.
I have now read the whole series. Each book was sad, but fascinating. All were written very well and easily understood. I find it hard to believe that someone could perform such acts of violence to another human being. Why are some people just born bad? Seems like every night the news tells about another murder. I wish we could all get along and accept each other.
