When city girl Bethany Fields arrives in the town of Redwood two days before her 21st birthday, her main reason for traveling to this small town is to find the mother she's never met. She refuses to listen to Sheriff Peter Stevenson's doubts that she will adjust to living in the middle of nowhere.
Peter doesn't believe the prissy Bethany has what it takes to become a schoolteacher, no matter how much she protests. When her lodging placement fall through, they have no choice but to share the same residence. Peter thinks Bethany is a spoiled woman whom he will only have to tolerate for a year. Then why can't he stop thinking about kissing her and making her his?
Publisher's Note: This conclusion to the Stevenson Brothers series contains some steamy scenes and elements of power exchange

The story will see the oldest of the Stevenson brothers take a wife. Sheriff Peter Stevenson never had any intentions of marrying and settling down, but now he wants what his two brothers have. When the new schoolmarm arrives, he is asked to meet her at the stagecoach and take her to her new home. Both Bethany Fields and the Sheriff will be surprised at that meeting.
Bethany Fields has grown up in an upper-class home in New York, where her life has been socializing and attending parties. What a shock to her father when she informs him she is taking a teaching position in Redwood, Wisconsin. She recently had learned that the mother she assumed died when she was an infant instead gave her up. Bethany wants and needs answers, and her father cuts her off from his purse strings.
The story’s plot will have Bethany setting out on a journey to locate her mother in Wisconsin, even knowing what her father has told her. She will apply to Redwood to be a teacher. While she may have a teaching certificate, she has never taught. She will arrive in town a day early and take a room for the night in a boarding house. Overhearing a couple who are loud during intimacy, she will rudely storm in on them. What a shock to discover the man picking her up the following day is not only the town’s sheriff but the guest she interrupted.
The story has plenty of angst, interaction, dominance, and submission. Bethany is stubborn, and rather than asking for help, she rushes into situations, like going two hours away to a town looking for her mother—not once, but twice. Peter is furious with her disregard for her safety and shows her the error of her ways by spanking her—and yet, she does it again and again.
The story is heavy on power exchange with this May-December relationship. It doesn’t contain multiple discipline scenes and explicit intimate scenes before marriage. I felt the couple had a natural chemistry and liked that the story has an epilogue and gives closure.
Peter, the eldest Stevenson child, gets a run for his money with city girl Bethany. She's the new schoolmarm, but she has an ulterior motive for being in Redwood that gets her in trouble more than once. Even though she doesn't quite achieve her original goal, she does find an all-consuming love with the sheriff. A great end to the series, with all the Stevensons hail and hearty, with little ones on their parents' hips.
