One night of fun with a gorgeous guy, that’s all I thought this was, but when Ben walked out my door, he left behind more than just a heart that ached a little.
There’s no way I should’ve been able to get pregnant, yet here I am.
For nine long years, I’ve been fighting to bring my daughter up right, trying to cater for all her unique needs, even as I go to bed every night knowing I’m failing her. So, when I’m offered help by Riley Taylor from the world famous Crowe Corp, I jump at the chance.
But that’s when I run into him.
He shouldn’t look that good, not after all this time and his brothers shouldn’t be clustering closer, trying to catch my scent. He definitely shouldn’t be looking at my daughter with awe and wonder, knowing exactly where her blonde hair comes from.
Ben and his pack want to be part of her life, but more than that, they want their mate and they think I might be her.
If you loved A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing and wanted more of Riley and the gang’s story, join Lily as she struggles to balance motherhood, bringing up a very strong willed daughter, being a beta in an alpha’s world and being forced to consider another chance at love.
I feel like the shit that’s in this books gets overlooked and a free pass because the heroine is a single mom. However, her actions led to her being a single mom. Yes, it was just a hook up, yes he told her it was only for one night, and yes he left her. BUT she knew how to contact him, knew his friends, yet never told him about his daughter! Her reasoning “I would have told him if he contacted me”! Bitch NO! You had the responsibility to contact him. This is YOUR fault. It doesn’t matter that she’s a beta and wasn’t suppose to be able to get pregnant, the fact is she did. IT WAS A SURPRISE TO HER SO IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AS EQUALLY AS SURPRISING TO HIM! She owed it to the H to tell him he was a father but decided to pass the buck. She was extremely unlikeable and not the victim she acted like. She stole the father from her child and had the gall to act innocent. No thank you.
Also, ya know how most of us hate OW/OM sex scenes? Yeah, we get an explicit scene of the h hooking up with OM. But don’t worry…he ends up being one of the Hs brothers so it’s ok. It’s ok that she went and had sex with OM after reuniting with the H because….well, just because! If it were the H doing this people would be up in arms stating how he doesn’t deserve the h, no, just no. The h doesn’t get a free pass from me..
DNF and as this was my 2nd attempt at reading this author I gonna say I’m done with her too. We obviously don’t mesh.
I really enjoy Sam Hall's books and her writing style. Problem Child is a shifter omegaverse reverse harem with a beta heroine and a pack of alphas pursuing her once they realize she's their mate. There's also a secret baby, which I'm not usually a fan of, but I thought the reasons for why were well thought out. While this story is in the same world as book 1, and characters from that story make appearances in this one, it does standalone nicely. The story is written in first person, single POV of Lily (h). No ow/om drama, h is not a virgin and it seemed like all of the guys were experienced, no mm/ff, and bc is used.
The story begins with Lily about to start college and she meets Ben at a party. They have a hot ONS (this is a fast burn) and she ends up pregnant. She decides to keep the baby but not to tell Ben because as part of an alpha pack, she expects he'll find an omega, and she thinks of her telling him as basically ruining his life. Instead she single moms with the help of her BFF and her BFF's mom (her own parents disown her). Things are hard but she's managing for nine years. Then she goes to Crowe Corp to get help because her daughter, Evie, is shaping up to be an unheard of female alpha, where she has a run-in with Ben and some members of his pack. From there begins the pursuit of the pack of both Evie as their daughter, but also Lily as their mate.
I enjoyed the relatability of Lily as a mom and her struggles to do what's best for her child, even when she didn't understand or wasn't sure what to provide. There are lots of scenes of parenting, with Lily on her own and with the guys once they get to that point. The story is character-driven and very focused on relationship building. There's also a lot of focus on designation, including the differences between betas and alphas. While instincts play a role in the story, sadly we don't get to see much of the guys as wolves. I would have liked more scenes involving shifted forms, esp since it's likely Evie will have a wolf too.
I really liked most of the guys, there's one jerk that's a holdout for much of the book. He does come around, but I wished he had earlier since the other guys had more positive moments and I felt their relationships with Lily were more established at the end. The guys remind Lily to care for herself as a woman, not just a mom, which I loved. Each guy is also distinct and they have their own baggage to sort through, some of which comes into play as they're trying to adjust to being fathers. I'd say this is a high heat book with a lot of steamy scenes. Even though Lily's not an omega, there's still knotting and claiming bites. She was not celibate while apart from Ben, which I liked and it's vaguely mentioned he wasn't either. I wasn't crazy about how many times she had thoughts about interactions with other alphas she was with though, some of those thoughts were also more detailed than I like.
There's quite a bit of angst and drama as Lily and Evie adjust to having the pack in their lives. Lily accepting herself as their mate is a slower process, which I thought fit her character well. There's also family drama from the guys' father. The story wraps everything up by the end and I really liked the epilogue with a couple of jump-ahead times that really established their HEA.
I can see that I'm very much in the minority here, but I really struggled with this sequel. I loved A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing and I was hoping for another winner, but no such luck.
Don't get me wrong, the writing is great and the single parent plotline is sympathetic, but my word, the romance really rubbed me the wrong way.
While the FMC is an absolute boss of a woman and an amazing mother, as a romantic lead however, she's a bit too submissive for my taste. Practically from the first moment they reconnect, her 'body betrays her mind' whenever they're around her.
The lack of relationship development really let this down. Especially if you consider that Ben and Lily only met for a couple of hours before being apart for nine years, there should have been more focus on getting to know each other and figuring out how they fit together as adults, rather than all the constant body-betraying sex.
What makes it worse was that the men were hard to like; aside from Jasper and maybe Ben, ll they seemed to care about was sexing her up.
Basically, I would have liked to see more of a connection between the men and Lily beyond her need for alpha d*ck and her child's need for a father.
Whaaaat, a secret baby plot that I actually liked? Is there a cold front in hell? Beta Lily has a one night stand with alpha Ben her freshman year of college and gets knocked up. Since alphas usually can only impregnate omegas, and Lily also has PCOS, this is like a one in a gazillion chance. When she finds out, she decides not to try and find him, since he's likely back home with his pack and an omega. This is usually when secret baby plots lose me, but I rolled with it this time.
Nine years later, her daughter Evie is showing signs she's a female alpha--unheard of. While at Riley's (heroine from the last book) clinic getting help for Evie, she meets Ben again with his pack, who have been unable to match with an omega. Cue wooing and pampering and dysfunctional men who were raised by an asshole of a father trying to learn how to be dads themselves.
I liked that Lily wasn't celibate the whole nine years. No relationships, but she had needs and knew how to get them met without disrupting her life with Evie. I did think the one asshole brother's heel-face turn was a bit abrupt. This is why I usually like dual/multiple POV over single. If we'd gotten Logan's thoughts all along, maybe it wouldn't have seemed so quick.
Lily is a beta and has a one night stand with an Alpha. When she realises she’s pregnant she has the baby on her own without contacting him thinking he has already found his omega. Fast forward 9 years later when Lily is at her wits end with her Alpha daughter Evie. Lily stumbles upon Alpha Ben and his pack when she’s is trying to get some help for her daughter and the pack realises that Evie is their daughter too!
I loved this book, I found it to be a unique twist when a beta gets her alpha pack instead of an omega. However in this omega/alpha dominated world, mating with a beta is frowned upon and with that comes its own set of problems.
After the success of A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing Sam Hall has dived right back into omegaverse with Problem Child. This standalone focuses on Lily, a beta, who has an alpha for a daughter, and when the dads find out its pure drama. Sam is one of my favorites so I knew I was gonna love it and I was right, it was a great read.
Problem Child feels a little different from Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing (WiSC), Lily being a single mother who is struggling to give a daughter with special needs all the help that she can because a world isn't used to a female alpha and certainly isn't prepared for a nine-year-old female alpha. That's where Riley and the gang from WiSC come in. They are still working at the lab doing, alpha/beta/omega studies at Crowe Corp, helping all the special cases that can't get help anywhere else.
Crowe Corp waiting area must have some magic ju-ju because it happened again. Ben and his brothers find Lily and discover Evie, their daughter while looking for a mate. Ben (bio daddy) is sweet but doesn't really think and does his own thing, Reed is dark, Damon is the thrill seeker, Jasper is sweet and Logan is a controlling asshole. Unfortunately, the guys have their own issues due to a less than steller childhood. The guys aren't a tight pack, they're not as close or functional as they should be but they aren't bad guys. Jasper is my favorite, hands down I wanted him right away. Most of the guys are trying very hard with Lily and Evie while the other two are just idiots but things work themselves out, eventually.
There was a lot of emotional turmoil in this book. Lily tries to provide for her daughter, the alphas realize that they've had a daughter for ten years and missed it, and to add to that all of them trying to become a family. There were some strong moments that really got to my heart. Seeing the little alpha struggling and Lily at loss about what to do was really hard. However that was just the characters' personal problems. As with Sam, some deeper issues were addressed, including how society treats people differently, the city is generally beta territory and they have so many different prejudices about alphas but don't really understand them, which is just a simplification of societal issues.
Problem Child was a hot mess of emotions and drama but it ended with a happy ever after it just took a whole lot to get there. Sam already has another omegaverse in the works and I can't wait to jump on it.
I HATED this book. I hated the style of writing; it was honestly difficult to read and get through. It felt stilted and uncomfortable.
I hated the plot and the characters. It just wasn't good. I also am seriously struggling with the child in this book and the entire conversation surrounding her. Our FMC is exhausted and tired and the Alphas just don't do it for me. There are moments in the book where they can clearly tell she needs a break and they step in but there are like.... no real conversations had about this or what she needs or anything.
It just felt like an awful fever dream and was hard to get through. Lots of good reviews here so clearly I'm the minority, but I genuinely think this isn't a good book.
This book was exceptional and deals with two subjects close to my heart - a single parent, and a child with extra needs. I thought both topics were handled with a lot of thought and care.
Beta Lily is a single mom after a one-night stand with an alpha, Ben. Against all odds, Lily gets pregnant. She has to make several big, life-altering decisions at a young age. With the support of her best friend and her best friend’s mom, she looks at all of the options available and decides to keep the baby. She also decides not to tell Ben, because of the extra complication that comes with an alpha pack - she knows that someday they’ll find their omega, and omegas are not known to be accepting of children outside of their mating.
I relate to Lily in a few ways - I am also a single parent, although it’s recent and not from a one-night stand - my child’s other parent is still very present in her life. And while my daughter, who is also named Evie, is not quite school-aged, signs point to her having at least some extra needs as well.
Lily and Evie’s dynamic was absolutely beautiful and a bit heartbreaking. Adding Ben and his pack into that was so, so we’ll done. I understood Lily’s fears and frustrations, and despite those feelings, she made an incredibly reasonable deal with the majority of the pack so that they could be involved with Evie while not making things worse. She sets aside her fears and tumultuous emotions to do the best thing for her daughter, and that takes strength.
The plot was very evenly paced and I didn’t want to put the book down once I started. The spicy times were *chef’s kiss* perfection! I absolutely love this series of omegaverse standalones that focus on tying in common problems that women and society deal with, as well as those who don’t fit into the box that society expects them to.
Like the first book in the series (A Wolf in Sheep's Clothing), I get why people love it, there are just some things not working for me.
Again, I love the premise : a beta just starting college and wants to enjoy life has a magical night with an alpha, who leaves the next day not knowing he managed to get her pregnant. And although I usually hate the trope "hiding the baby from the daddy", the world building gives our heroine a great reason to not track him down.
And again, I love the steamy scenes. There's a bit of everything for everyone. Even though the story might not be my favorite, the spice in here places the book in my list of rec for steamy books.
But, again, I didn't care that much for most of the male characters. Or rather, I was left wanting more (and not in the good way). In this one I was firmly team Jasper; Reed and Damon had my interest, I wished we had delved more into what makes them tick; Ben had a lot of potential but ended up boring; and Logan... too little too late. Again, a lot of telling and not much showing. We were given hints to more for many of them, but in the end it didn't deliver and many ended up lacking depth.
Also, there's a lot of angst and drama set up, but no real explanation given or resolution, which just leaves a very unsatisfying empty feeling behind.
And like the last book, I think it tries to do too many things. I love Evie's story and the work that Riley and her mate do, working with children who due to genetics or family structure struggle in a beta world. I don't think the parallel with neuro atypical people isn't too far-fetched, and I did enjoy Evie's story in that respect. But it meant a lot less time to focus on the romance. Logan's arc was an interesting one, but the resolution to that was so unsatisfying because rushed and forced. I get why Lily was an anxiety-riddled tense beta, but we spend so much time in her head in that state, I didn't really buy the romantic parts (when she finally accepts the mating, it feels like giving in/up, not like she's looking forward to something).
The characters start from a place of drama and conflict and hurt feelings, the goal is to end up in love, mated to each other, but not much time is spend on getting them there (aside from sex). What I love and look for in romances is the build up, the cute moments, the intimate and open-hearted convos. Here, we do get the angst, and we get the steam, but I feel like the actual romance is lacking. Hence my lower rating, even if there's a lot I do love in this book.
They both agreed it was only one night but it changed Lily's life forever. Pregnancy wasn't supposed to be possible between an Alpha and a Beta. Girl babies did not come from Alpha fathers. Girls are not Alphas. Everly Rowan McGregor defied the facts. Evie or Evmonster as her family affectionately calls her is a force of nature. And like nature, she can be beautiful or destructive. She is a blessing and a challenge, and Lily barely makes it through many days. Seeking help at Crowe Corp, a Designation Clinic specializing in unique cases, Lily and Evie run into Lily's one-night stand, Ben and two of his brothers. They immediately recognize Evie's scent as one of their own and want to be a part of her life. They also believe the reason they haven't found an Omega to mate is that they are mated to this Beta. Lily's life just got even more complicated.
This was a difficult book to rate. It was enjoyable. Despite itself. Sam Hall's books are easy to fall into and they entertain. However, I can't think about them; I need to keep them on a surface level. Otherwise, I get frustrated and disgusted, even angry. Lily loved her daughter, sure but she was not in control. She apologized for her daughter and spoke about her like she was a dangerous delinquent. I understand she didn't know how to deal with her but I didn't like the language she used. She was also portrayed as this capable, strong woman but the moment the Alphas came around, she became knot-hungry and turned her daughter's care over to Ben. I thought she would be worried about being replaced since Evie was so enamored with her fathers, and Lily had some internal angst but ran off at every invitation. The Alphas came in and took over. They spoke in front of Evie when they shouldn't, they undermined her mother's role, and became the Evie-whisperer, making all of Lily's efforts seem fruitless. Not to mention one brother and their father were actively working to take her away from her mother. That's not love, that's ownership. But my biggest issue was with her relationship with the Alphas. I was never convinced of anyone's true feelings. I know for certain the Alphas loved their daughter. I felt like Lily came as part of the package deal. Yes, yes, I know I was told they wanted her but outside of sex, I was never shown true love and affection. They wanted their cub, they knew the Beta could take their knot, and produce offspring. There was nothing deeper than that. The whole story seemed to go halfway. The love affairs, the parenting, the custody dispute, Evie accepting the one she said was not her dad, and the brother needing to atone for his words all needed more. Instead, the story was interrupted by sex, repetitive "I can't take it, I'm not an Omega, I need it, there's nothing like it" sex. I love steamy scenes but they should be the icing on the cake, not the batter.
Usually, I like the smut that Sam Hall deals. It’s the kind of smut that you secretly enjoy while trying not to think about it during the workday, because the sweetness paired with the steam makes you sweat a little at your desk.
**Mild spoilers** This one just made me angry. One brother was a deal-breaking tool. Anyone who tries to take a kid away from their loving mother, without even knowing the kid’s name, without knowing particulars, just to punish the mom— that’s messed up. The grandpa who asks for sole custody but demands a paternity test? On what earth does gramps have authority over both parents? They talk him to pound sand and BAM! Plot resolved.
It seemed as though it was just frustrating drama for the sake of frustrating drama.
It’s kinda unnecessarily long and it got boring because ✨repetitive smut✨ like ugh I’ve read this before and tben I just skipped it over. The main issue was kinda big but it all just got settled without much heat. Ugh.
Like, the thing where she didn’t say anything to him for YEARS? I knowwwwwww it’s the alpha omega bullshit she’s worried about and blablabla OH I tried to love these characters but I just can’t. The writing was okay IMO but I JUST WANT TO ASK THE AUTHOR WHO HURT YOUUUUU
I do not agree with the heroine, hiding the child from her father. Because she had the means to contact Ben but she didn’t. ARGH! Rage!
And then let’s talk about Logan. What in the everloving fuck? That plot pissed me off. Ahhhhh JAIL!
Lily and Ben had a one night stand and a few weeks later Lily discovers she’s pregnant which should be impossible since she’s a beta. Betas shouldn’t be able to have an alphas baby. Being a Beta in her mindset she was not good enough for the Alpha Ben. Ben and his pack would want an omega to produce litters of babies not a beta. She chooses not to try and find him because she and her baby would be set aside once their pack found an omega. Omegas are territorial so Evie would not be accepted.
Some years later when Lily starts having behavioral issues with Evie, she reaches out to the Crowe Corp for help to control Evie’s alpha tendencies.
The first day there Ben and his brothers are attending an appointment at the same company. Ben and his brothers have not been able to find their mate so are there for help.
When Lily and Ben run into each other it seems like fate has decided to step in. Ben realizes Evie is his daughter because she smells like pack. Also Lily is his mate, beta or not she’s his too. Lily is stubborn and says a beta can’t be their mate.
This story has some emotional baggage that Lily, Ben, Jasper, Reed, Damon and even Logan have to sort through. They all want to do what’s best for Evie. Ben and his brothers must convince Lily to let them in so they can be a real family.
Through ups and downs, twists and turns, impossibilities become possible. I’m really liking this Wolfverse series. It’s a refreshing view of the A/B/O world.
Problem Child by Sam Hall is an utterly intriguing shifter romance that’s part of the Wolfverse universe that, if you’re a fan of Sam’s, you know and love well! But this one has a unique spin on the traditional omegaverse book and I absolutely LOVED it!!! This story will take your heart through a wringer, but it’s totally worth it as you come out the other side rebuilt and stronger than ever!
This is a unique story about Lily, a beta, who somehow becomes pregnant after a hot and steamy one night stand with an Alpha—something that’s not supposed to be possible. Fearing that she’ll ruin Ben’s chances of the perfect life with his pack and future Omega, Lily keeps her pregnancy and beautiful daughter Evie a secret. Until fate intervenes and Evie starts to present alpha tendencies and she goes to have her evaluated…and throws Lily right into the path of Ben and his pack.
And when they realize Evie is rightfully their daughter, and Lily is their mate? They’re willing to do anything to try to convince Lily she’s right where she needs to be. Even when their own family tries to sabotage them along the way. What ensues next is a definite must read of a journey with characters so beautifully broken that you can’t help but root for them all to have the happy ending that they all deserve. I absolutely love how they all eventually came together and overcame the odds against them.
Overall if you’re a fan of unique omegaverse stories then this is the one for you! There is so much more to this story then just hot steamy chemistry, (though it does have that trust me!) it’s a definite must read! Full of emotional growth, an intriguing storyline and amazing character development this book has it all and I can't wait to see how this story evolves and read Evie’s story!
When Lily's life changes after her one night stand with an alpha, she has to learn how to navigate these new changes alone because she's just a beta and this isn't what's supposed to be in her cards.
Lily's daughter is exceptional in all things, and Lily struggles with how to help her. She does everything possible until she finally meets Riley and her guys. This is where everything changes and Lily's life is turned on its axis once again. She can no longer deny Lily the help she truly needs and who can give her that help.
This book is sweet and steamy, And I absolutely loved the character development with not only Lily and her daughter but the whole pack.
I couldn’t quite point out why I didn’t seem to enjoy the rh in this series since vol1 but with this vol, it was glaringly obvious. It doesn’t feel like a cohesive harem/"poly" relationship. They felt like 6 pieces of different puzzles aligned in a row instead of 6 pieces of the same puzzle that fit together. However, it did change towards the end (~90% of the book…) so ig it’s a progress?
Same observations as vol 1 too, we can barely graze the surface of who the love interests really are. And these characters NEEDED more details, we needed to know more abt them and not just catch a passing by remark of "I wanted to put a gun barrel in my mouth"!!! All their distress and traumas were awfully handled imo. Too shallow, too many, and they were resolved too easily too late. Logan’s bagages were dealt with towards the VERY END!!! Why?? Literally incomprehensible. They just all decided to ignored him for 300+ pgs then resolve things in 20 pgs tops! Then she sleeps with him and promise to work together forwards. NO??! What abt Jasper and his 3 pgs of showing weakness with his trauma then everything is swept under the rug. Give us more??!! You can’t just brush things away like that??
And that’s once again bcs they were too many imo. I had hope at first that there would only be 3 of them Ben, Jasper and Logan (the one she met after the 9 yrs) but the dream (we still don’t fkg know how mates do the dream thing) with the 2 more shadows shattered my hopes.
Evie was ok…Carmen had more use in the story than the bff (cant even recall her name) and the sudden grandpa/grandma drama was too late and resolved too fast/easily which made it too shallow. It could’ve been great if it was introduced way earlier!! All this length for nothing in the end. This author needs a beta reader/editor to trim, trim, TRIM!!! Some passages were unnecessary too long making it unbalanced and frankly boring :/ (i hate having to say this!!) The writing was like overgrown vines. Not the romantic/gothic but the neglected type.
Anyway, I’m not sure I even want to finish this series and I was really looking forward to vol3…
As a person with my own childhood trauma I really find it unrealistic that after 20 ish years Richard suddenly decided to become a better person. He physically abused his children and they let him babysit their daughter at the end? What? This just makes me angry and sets up for readers to think that kind of action is okay. The male leads deserved so much better. Not to mention Grace let the abuse happen and was the standby parent who let grief consume her in a way I’m sure her dead mates would be ashamed of both of them. Like wth the climax and drama shouldn’t have been added if you were gonna give it an anticlimactic and just abrupt apology that didn’t have depth to it.
Another issue is Logan, he honestly shouldn’t have been added to the sexual encounter with him being in the window, or just in general it felt wrong and out of place. Lily clearly wasn’t involved with him like that and was if anything disgusted with him for 85% of the book. That felt creepy and like just wrong for him to be watching that and his brother being okay with it even tho he was clearly still in an antagonist role trying to take her child away from her. Just all around shouldn’t have added that scene or did something that was consensual, it just felt wrong that she didn’t put up a fight with anyone. I understand they’re mates but if she’s a beta, and betas don’t feel mate connection, why was she okay with it? Just rubbed me wrong. Logan just wasn’t even a good character, yes he was abused too and had his own issues, but it doesn’t give him the right to continuously be bias against Lily cause she’s a beta. She shouldn’t have accepted him so easily and he should’ve groveled so so much more. Or if anything I would’ve enjoyed seeing him end up being the actual antagonist who ends up betraying them worse and he ends up in jail or something.
Maybe I’m being to harsh but this is all my opinion, I normally am all for Sam Hall’s books, I enjoy them a ton, and was counting down the days for this one to be out. However it was so hard to keep reading once I got to 75% and there was still Logan drama with no real character growth from him. He didn’t even get more growth until the last two chapters. This book felt more like spice and less plot which would be fine if the author didn’t add in the extra trauma from male leads parents, and just the Logan issue.
I would love to see maybe a more in depth plot version of this book, there’s a lot of potential in this book, it just needs probably a few more chapters on character growth, and maybe the male leads and grandma legit cutting Richard off for good. Why would you trust him around your child? I thought that was the point was to get away from him but the epilogue shows she went on a trip with Grace and him.
Again no hate to Sam Hall, I love her work, however this one just felt rushed at the end like she forgot things were still rocky with Logan and that Richard was forgiven easily by his mate and kids just feel uncomfortable. Abuse is abuse and shouldn’t be forgiven easily or at all unless there’s some intense group therapy and even then I’d think they’d go low contact.
Broke my heart...then slowly pieced it back together.
I don't read a ton of A/B/O reads because the power dynamic usually is too skewed and off putting for me, but I really enjoyed the first release Sam had in this series. Riley's story was sweet and sexy so I was really looking forward to this second book. Wow. Problem Child is a whole different level. This story broke my heart. These characters are so sweet. So broken. All of them so sad. What Evie is experiencing as a child, feeling alone, feeling like she doesn't belong. Heartbreaking. 😭 Lily watching this as the mom and trying to solve all the problems by herself, with no help. Bearing all the weight. Heartbreaking. 😭 The guys, Ben, Jasper, Reed, Damon, even Logan, these guys are carrying some serious baggage. 😭 Then you start to see some small sparks of magic when they find each other. You start to get glimpses of what they could look like as a family. Beautiful. This story was intense. I loved every minute of it. So far, this is my favourite in this series, but hey, why choose? 😄😘

DNF 62% If you're not a fan of children, you won't be a fan of this book.
I tend to avoid books involving pregnancy/children at all costs. The kid always steals the show in one way or another, and Problem Child is no exception. Fortunately, the kid in Problem Child acts like a genuine kid, with growing pains and a fleshed-out personality like a kid you'd seen in real life. The parent-child relationship and single-motherhood take the lead in this book, and those aspects are done excellently. Unfortunately, I didn't read Problem Child for the mother-daughter bond. The romance takes a firm backseat. Tension and drama are practically non-existent. Relationships and characters are severely underdeveloped. Though most of the men are instantly attracted to the FMC due to the bond, the FMC doesn't feel any of that insta-love and it makes the interactions with the men uncomfortable as a result. They feel weirdly pushy and their attraction appears one-dimensional. With parenting scenes taking the lead, there's little screen time left to distribute between the five men. MMCs proclaim themselves as "the funny one" and "the sweet one" as a shortcut for character development. The book definitely could have benefited from a smaller harem. It could've been an M/F with just Lily and Ben, even. Overall, it felt like I was reading a prequel to Evie's story rather than Lily's grand romance.
“You’ve been out here, hanging tough, doing everything yourself,” she said as she sobered up, her smile turning wicked. “But honey, Daddy’s home. All of the daddies are home.”
Well, fuck.
One momentous one-night stand. The best shag of her life, however Lily knew exactly what the situation was and happily accepted the memories; because Beta’s don’t end up with Alphas. Nor do Beta’s fall pregnant to an Alpha, except she did. So, Lily also accepted those consequences.
Fast forward 9 years and Lily is a single mum to a female Alpha. And through the good and bad times, her Alpha Ben never returned. But the one-time Lily seeks help (because an Alpha child is something else ~ a mini tornado) fate puts Lily and Ben together at the right time.
Many mixed emotions. A secret child, a neglected lover and an Alpha who fucked up. And to complicate matters, Alpha’s come in packs. Immediately this becomes a second chance courtship between Lily, her daughter Evie and 5 wolf shifters, Ben, Reed, Jasper, Damon and Logan. Too many personalities and deviants in one mix. What a hot ride!!
Problem Child was Quirky, Steamy and emotional, that sucked me in and had me abandoning my responsibilities just to continue reading. This was was different spin to what I’ve read in the past. A change of dynamics to the whole Omegaverse trope (Beta/Alpha romance) and a heartfelt portrayal of motherhood many could relate to.
I loved this book because it brings originalty in the big amount of omegaverse currently published. The point of view of the author about A,B,O designations is refreshing and I like that this book speaks about single mother, unwanted pregnancy, child with specific needs, and paternity.
Lily is a good mother who struggles between her job and being the single mother of a child with specific needs linked to her designation. Lily does her best but suffers from this constant guilt every mothers know very well: am I doing enough? Am I a good parent? Is my child happy? etc. Well, mothers, you understand me. As a mother of a toddler, this topic strikes such an emotional chords❤
The guys are a handful I want to say. There are of course growling sexy alphas but some are struggling with their newly revealed paternity and it makes this book very realistic. There are the eternal assh*le one and I was very happy that Lily didn't forgive him quickly and that he had to work to be a part of her family.
I just kept wondering about the results of the genetic tests of Lily and her daughter. It's mentioned in the book but we never known the results. I was expecting a plot twist about it but nothing...maybe a just a detail in fact🧐
The fan of omegaverse will be delighted with this book!
Fans of Omegaverse will love this sweet and steamy second chance romance by Sam Hall. Problem Child takes place in Sam’s Wolfverse and while there’s some character crossover from a previous book, Problem Child can be read entirely on its own.
I can always count on a few things while reading a Sam Hall book— relatable characters, lots of engaging plot and high levels of steam. Problem Child has all this and more, packaged together in a consuming and emotive read. Truthfully, I’m not a huge fan of the secret baby trope but I really like how Sam created and built the family dynamic here and I was completely invested.
I’d call this a slower burn since the FMC holds out for a while until finally giving into the alpha pack. I wish this happened a bit sooner but understand that the characters needed time to develop their relationships and build trust. When the spice does come, it’s filled with all the delicious growling and knotting you’d expect in an Omegaverse read.
Another amazing read by Sam Hall. I swear, Sam can write absolutely anything and I will devour it gratefully!
This went everywhere and nowhere at the same time. It’s all insta attraction with a little drama but overall it wasn’t something that made me want to dnf it even tho there were a few cringe scenes which is a plus! I still think that we hardly made any progress with the child. Needed to have more content with her and the dads to see her evolving rather than just getting to know about it, especially the 4 other mates besides Ben. There was hardly any Logan content either (the last mate to come around and the hardest to thaw). Otherwise they were fun individuals to read about. Lily (FMC) did piss me off at various instances for sure. She was hard on not accepting them all as her mates so how come the I Love You’s started dropping fast once they all started hooking up.
That was amazing!!! Seriously I loved this story. Let me tell you something, this was 100% original. This checked all the boxes for me. One it was not cookie cutter like every other author, two the characters are real and flawed, three the sex is amazing!!! Above all they loved that little girl and her momma once they knew she existed. I can not wait for the next book.
