The Altruistic Capitalist: How to Lead for Purpose and Profit

Rate this book
Are you tired of hearing that companies can’t create a profit and make a positive impact simultaneously?

The Altruistic Capitalist looks to spark change in conversations in board rooms, offices, and schools to turn the focus from sales, profits, and returns to the impact good business can have on people and the planet. Through her interviews with prominent business leaders as well as her personal experiences in the business world, author Lynn Yap offers ways to rethink capitalism, create a positive impact, and do meaningful work. Yap looks to tackle questions

This book speaks to leaders, social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs, and innovators who want to change the relationship between business, our people, and the planet. We can no longer rely on governments and non-profit organizations alone to solve our social and environmental problems. As we look urgently to the business world for solutions, this kinder, more mindful brand of capitalism just may provide a pathway out.

This is a very important book. Over and above meeting targets and maximizing profits, all entrepreneurs and leaders of institutions want to leave a legacy, a lasting reminder of what they have built. Some really passionate people may successfully do so, but for many, all they have is a vague idea of what that legacy is to be. Lynn Yap in her book gives these entrepreneurs and leaders of institutions the inspiration and the ideas to leave a legacy that makes a start up, an institution, and ultimately, our world, a far better place for humanity. Read this, people.

A mandatory guide for current and aspiring leaders. This book lays out a good framework to leaders on how to achieve business goals in a people, planet and prosperity centric manner. I loved the summary and self reflection questions at the end of each chapter as well as powerful examples showing how to become and flow as mindful leaders in a fast changing world.

Working in the education business, my guiding principle has always been 'to think with the mind of a business person, but to feel with the heart of a parent'. The Altruistic Capitalist resonates strongly with me as all parents want a better world for their children amidst the push for higher profits.
With her diversified corporate background and deeply personal experiences, Lynn Yap approaches this tricky subject with courage, innovation and a passionately caring heart.
