It was supposed to be a quiet night for Bobbie Casto and his friends outside their small town of Rion, West Virginia. But when two police officers arrive, things quickly spiral out of control. Now, Bobbie is on the run, his friends dead, and himself wanted for the attempted murder of a police officer.
So when Bear Beauchamp checks on his business partner Raymond Byrd and finds him abetting the young kid, he knows of only one person that can Jackson Clay.
Together, they try to piece together what happened that night, but what they learn may be even worse then what's happened. Prying eyes aren't welcome in this part of West Virginia. As the group begins to uncover an organized crime racket that stretches to the highest levels of state government, they go from being the hunters to being the hunted.
But unexpected enemies mean unexpected allies. Jackson and Bear begin to recruit a band of unlikely cohorts, but time isn't on their side. They need to expose the truth before those wanting to silence them catch up, and Jackson and Bear are running out of road.
B. C. Lienesch is a former freelance writer and featured columnist and editor for GuysNation.com but has done everything from owning a bakery to selling fireworks out of a pair of shipping containers. Born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Northern Virginia, he now lives in the same area with his wife, Meg, their two dogs, Kaia and Aria, and two cats, Luna and Hitchcock. CHASING DEVILS is his third novel. He previously wrote COUNTRY ROADS and THE WOODSMAN.
B.C. Lienesch does it again. Starting on page one of Country Roads violence with extreme prejudice is in the air. More than once I had to remind myself to breathe, as the unrelenting action, suspense and psychological warfare intensified until the very last page.
Just so happy there are still two more books available in this series for me to revel in. Not to mention, one more coming this summer.
Highly recommend for anyone seeking a high-octane, suspense filled thriller overflowing with charismatic, witty and villainous characters.
Another well written novel by B C Lienesch centering around the main character of Jackson Clay. Clay continues to stand up for the underdog. Corporate supported shady police force is the main problem. Clay is the remedy for the victims. This writing is full of action, greed, dishonesty, anger, frustration, hope, conflict and resolution. It is a fast read with a respectable ending. If this is a reflection of the rest of the series it will be worth the while to invest in Lienesch’s future writings.
When I grabbed a copy of The Woodsman I had an inkling that it was going to be a phenomenal read. I was able to pace myself and savour my first read. Not so much this time around. Once you've met Jackson Clay and Bear there is absolutely no pacing yourself. I managed to devour this book in 2 days.
I've met some pretty awesome characters in my time reading books and I'm absolutely thrilled to count Bear and Clay as some of my favourites. This book was nearly impossible to put down (stupid sleep) and those last couple of chapters were like 🫣😰🥹😭🤯
Do yourself a favour - This series takes it to 11.
Loved “Country Roads.” It’s a thriller with a lot of heart. Three kids go up the mountain to party and run into lawmen who have never heard of the straight and narrow. One of the kids is wanted by the police, but he evades capture and seeks help from his uncle. The uncle has friends, and they defend their own.
Jackson will remind you of Jack Reacher, except warmer with more friends.
This compelling book will keep you turning pages late into the night. It’s the second in a series, but it doesn’t feel like it. I can’t wait to read the prior book, “The Woodsman” to see what nuances I might have missed. Highly recommend.
I was lucky enough to have the author in my local bookstore set up selling copies. Before I left I walked over and asked about his books and Country Roads really piqued my interest so I figured I’d give it a shot and bought it! (And I got it signed!) I was NOT expecting the ride of my life with this book!! I haven’t stayed up late to finish a book in a while and this one had me up past 1 am because I could not put it down!! Needless to say I will be buying the other two and recommending this book to everyone!
This book was just as amazing as the first if not more! It was a real tearjerker for me on some parts and I can honestly say I am definitely looking forward to reading the third installment. Bear and Jackson have stolen my heart and I can’t say I’ve read about a more perfect duo since Sherlock Holme and Dr Watson!
Kindle Unlimited Jackson Clay is NOT a PI. He considers himself a 'finder'. If something is lost, he will find it, be it a person or a thing. We are in the South, that area of several states surrounding D.C., and the lost in this case is a boy, Bobbie Casto, running from the local cops, who saw two of his friends killed by those same cops. Jackson and Bear will do everything in their power to protect the boy, as do their friends. We met Bear in the previous novel in this series, and by the end of this one, he's like family - both to these characters and us readers. We are introduced to several other characters, well-defined, and squired around some beautiful countryside as they try to uncover the dirty cops involved in the murders of those teens and clear Bobbie's name. REVIEWED on April 6, 2025, at Goodreads and AmazonSmile. Not available at B&N, BookBub, or Kobo.
I enjoyed this story very much. It was well written and easy to read. The writer was able to keep me intrigued and it was hard to stop reading it once I started. This is an excellent series.
Excellent second out for Clay and friends. Maybe a bit over the top but quite exhilarating overall. Looking forward to continuing adventures of the Airborne Ranger.
Dateline criminal minds and law and order rolled into one book and it was a heck of a ride. Jackson Clay is the person the decitives when they need to find someone.
B.C Lienesch is definetely becoming one of my favorite authors. His books are real page turners. Very refreshing reads. The details make it feel like you are there!
Light read. Action with impossible scenarios but thats the genre. He needs better editors, the start of a chapter had virtually the same words as a few pages before. Fun characters
Story is entertaining and action keeps going. There are some parts that are not very realistic. Over a dozen bad guys keep attacking until they are all dead. It is only a book.
Loved book 2. What I really enjoyed was the edition of the other colorful characters. I hope they continue popping in the future books. The same and new ones.
This is book 2 in the Jackson Clay series. I loved book 1, the Woodsman and I couldn't wait to read book 2. This story takes place several months after the ending in The Woodsman
This story continues several months after the events that took place in The Woodsman. This story takes a completely different turn of events and Jackson and Bear now have to take on a corrupt small town police department and their supervisors. This story is full of action and intrigue along with a mystery of who is good and who is bad. Brian has a way of pulling you into the story and keeping you there. I read this book in one afternoon. I was enthralled with the characters and loved the plot. We are introduced to some new characters that Jackson picks up along the way. I have a feeling that Brian will add a new person to Jacksons team each book and we will end up with a crazy rag, tag team for victims to hire that work for those who have been wronged. I am here for it all. I truly loved this story and if you love a good morally grey character with some great witty banter, this book is for you. I give this book 5 stars.
