Sarah Reinert is a perfectionist. She’s spent her life trying to live up to the expectations that her parents drilled into her. Always dress well, be successful, find a husband, get married…
But that’s impossible.
Especially when she finds out her long-term boyfriend is cheating on her via anonymous emails. When she sees the pictures of him with other women, she knows she’s going to break up with him.
But that also means she has to move out of the house they own together.
Overwhelmed by the idea of admitting to her parents that she’s failed, and having to cram her life back into her childhood bedroom, she asks her best friend if she can move in with him instead.
When Sarah comes to Bret with her idea, he thinks it’s the perfect opportunity to finally show her how he feels about her. He’s loved her since the first night they met, but he knew she was in a relationship, so he never made a move. With them living together, he’s bound to find the perfect opportunity to ask her if they can try to be more than just friends.
There’s only one problem.
He doesn’t know how to tell her he’s the one that sent the emails.
Tropes: Friends to Lovers, Fake Dating, Small Town, Found Family, Contemporary Romance
First of all, thank you to the author, Cecelia Conway, for providing me an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book is the 4th in an interconnected series, but it can also be read as a standalone, which is what I did, and now I am very interested in reading all of the other books in the series.
This book has some of my favourite tropes: fake dating and forced proximity! I am such a sucker for books with these tropes!
Overall, this book was fun and I ended up reading most of it in one sitting. I really enjoyed following Sarah’s POV and I was rooting for her the entire time. Bret was not my favourite MMC, but I do think he was a nice juxtaposition to Sarah and is very good for her.
This book is well paced and easy to get into. I would say this is a fun summer read for anyone wanting to read a sweet small town romance!
Two Nights in August is the fourth book in the Door County Dreams series by Cecelia Conway, featuring an entertaining friends to lovers/ fake dating romance with Sarah and Bret. Sarah has always struggled with self-esteem and body image issues, as she constantly tries to live up to her parents high standards of success in work and relationships. Too bad her long-term boyfriend didn’t get the same lessons! She receives anonymous emails with photos proving him to be a chronic cheater. With nowhere else to go, she turns to her best friend Bret, who has been secretly pining for her for their entire friendship. Bret may finally have a chance to tell her how her really feels with her living with him. First though, he needs to tell her that he’s the source of those emails. Can a fledgling relationship last with such a huge secret between them?
This was my first book by this author, and I enjoyed going into it blind. I connected with Sarah immediately, as I’ve experienced some of the same body insecurities myself. Despite the years of conditioning, though, Sarah showed an admirable strength when she stood up for herself. Although I liked the friendship and evolving connection between Sarah and Bret, I spent a good portion of the book frustrated with him. She’s supposed to be his best friend who he has romantic feelings for, and he knows she has trust issues, yet he still fails to communicate with her?🤦🏼♀️ He’s just a bonehead sometimes.😆 Then at other times he’s super sweet with her, and they do have some downright spicy chemistry together.🔥 And he did win me over eventually.😉 I enjoyed the small town vibe, and the witty banter and fun brought by all the characters. I look forward to seeing what comes next and checking out the earlier books I missed.
I received an advanced review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you @katerocksbooktour and the author for a copy of this book. This is part of 4 of the series and I did not read the other books and didn't feel lost at all.
This is a great friends to lovers romance between Sarah and Brett. I love in this story that the guy falls first and he was so honest about his attraction to Sarah. Which made zero sense why he wasn't honest about the other stuff. I did love Brett Sarah as she is and gave affirmations to help her gain her confidence back.
I now need to go back and read the previous stories.
Bret and Sarah have been best friends for a while now. Bret has always had a thing for Sarah, but settled for friendship after learning she had a boyfriend. When he sees that boyfriend in a bar and obviously on a date with another woman, he doesn’t quite know how to handle it. He snaps some pictures, but bottles out of telling Sarah directly.
When Sarah receives an email containing pictures of her boyfriend out with various other women, she runs to Bret for help. As he currently has a spare room, it makes sense that she moves in with him temporarily while she gets back on her feet. However, as they start to spend more time together, she realizes that she may have feelings for him too!
I really enjoyed this story, especially as the female lead wasn’t your typical thin character, but someone who was larger and more real, and who was still admired for who she was. Although she was insecure at the start, thanks to her mum and her ex, she ended up being body positive. It was a refreshing viewpoint from a novel.
There were definitely some cheesy parts to the story, and the grand gestures which were a little over the top! There was also a section towards the end which felt rushed but otherwise the storyline was set at a nice pace, and enjoyed reading about the two of them falling for each other, with the threat of Bret’s secret being revealed hanging over him and the potential of a happy ending.
Two Nights in August is the fourth novel in the Door County Dreams series and can be read as a standalone. I did not read the books prior, and even though there were minimal mentions of the previous book's events, it did not take away from the primary focus of this story.
With that said, this is my first read from Cecelia Conway, and it was a pleasant surprise! The story unfolds between Sarah and Bret, two souls facing extreme difficulties and odds, finding their way to one another. Sarah faces defeat and poor life choices after her long-time boyfriend is discovered cheating on her. She turns to her best friend, Bret, who has been hiding his feelings from her throughout their friendship, and the two make a pact to begin fake dating. The two friends grow closer once Sarah moves in with Bret. As Sarah's walls start to break around Bret, a secret Bret keeps from her can cause their blooming romance and friendship to crumble forever.
This was a cute read, and I enjoyed Bret and Sarah's small-town vibe and budding romance. I am also going to read the first three books of the series. Highly recommend this one.
I love a good “friends-to-lovers” trope, but add a fake relationship, and you got me. Sarah has a lot going on already in her life, but then add anonymous emails with photos of her boyfriend cheating on her, well… it’s a lot. She turns to her best friend, Bret, who has been pining for her for quite some time.
I didn’t realize this was part of a series when I signed up, but I had zero trouble following along. I’m glad I went into this without knowing the previous books. I enjoyed it that much more. Sarah is entirely relatable. Conway did a fantastic job with that.
Bret wasn’t always the smartest in some situations. He was a bit of a knucklehead sometimes. He pulled me to his side eventually, and I have to say, I understand him and his reasoning… even if I didn’t agree.
I’m so curious about the previous three books, so I’m going to have to take a look at those. The series is currently available on KindleUnlimited.
A big thanks to author Cecelia Conway for providing me with an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is the fourth in an interconnected series, but I read it as a standalone and still enjoyed it immensely. Moreover, after reading it, I am now intrigued to go back and read the other books in the series.
This book covered some of my favourite tropes such as fake dating and forced proximity, which made me an instant sucker for it. I found myself rooting for Sarah throughout the story and enjoyed following her POV. Bret, while not my favourite MMC, served as a good foil to Sarah and was an excellent addition to the narrative.
The book's pacing was ideal, making it easy to get into and finish in a single sitting. Overall, I would describe this as a fun summer read for anyone seeking a sweet small town romance.
I received an ARC copy of this book from Breys book tours and Cecelia Conway in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much for this opportunity! I really love the cover photo of this book. It is really cute and attractive.
This is the fourth book in the series 'Door County Dreams' but it can also be read as a standalone. I have read the first three books already so I really enjoyed reading them. This book combines two of my favourite tropes: fake dating and forced proximity.
The author's writing skills are quite captivating. She will keep you engaged throughout the book without getting bored. It was a delight to read and I devoured the whole book in one sitting. I really enjoyed reading Sarah's POV and bret tried to bring out the best in Sarah. I will definitely recommend this book as a fun summer read for anyone who loves reading a Sweet Contemporary Romance.
This is my first read by the author. This is book four in the series but can be read as a standalone. I’m so happy I found this author & cannot wait to read more of her books.
I really enjoy a small town book & this did not disappoint. I really was invested in the characters of Bret & Sarah. I loved the banter between the two and the friendship they had. These two characters had just enough spice as well. Their story will definitely stay with me for quite sometime. I definitely plan to read the other books in this series. If you like a great small town romance, I highly recommend checking out this series & the Author.
This is the my first time reading a novel in which the female MC is plus size, and I have to say that I am quite speachless. I really have no words to say what a wonderful job Cecelia did describing insecurities and weaknesses of plus size women. Sarah’s big fears of not being enough and of not deserving to be loved aren't something which can be easily overcome. Both her mother and her cheting ex-boyfriend let her believe that she has to be someone else to be appreciated, both physically and mentally. The true reason why Bret is a real perfect boyfriend is that he not only loves Sarah as she is, but he also tries to convince her that she should only be her truly self to be loved.
I just finished this book, I am reading The entire series. I liked it, the couple is cute, the plot is good but the book is far too long. At moments felt like the author has the need to fill up gaps to don't be a short story. When I actually feel more back story in the characters will have been appropriate that excessive detailed unnecessary moments. Yes, we meet them in other books, but this is THEIR book and if I was to pick this one first I would have been left with so many questions unanswered. I like the versatile group of friends the books have, I just think this one miss more spotlight in the protagonists. Into the next one!
I really enjoyed this small-town romance. Brett and Sarah are best friends. He's been in love with her since he met her, but she's had a boyfriend. That is until she discovers that he's been cheating on her through emails that were mysteriously sent to her. She moves in with Brett, who thinks that this would be a good time to let her know how he really feels. The only problem is that he doesn't know how to tell her he was the one that sent her the emails.
My thoughts: I loved this romance. It had all of my favorite tropes, small-town romance, friends to lovers, and forced proximity. Sarah was a great character! A plus-size main character, with trust issues and coming out of a toxic relationship. I loved her friendship with Brett and their circle of friends. It's part of a series but can be read as a stand-alone.
I resonated deeply with Sarah. She is only of the only plus size characters that felt right, and I believe was actually fat. The forced proximity is delicious and felt very much like a real experience! While this is book #4 in Door County series it can be read as a stand-alone which will absolutely make you want to read the rest. (And you should!)
A great indie author that hits the mark on the real life with enough drama to keep things interesting and make you want to keep reading.
Two Nights in August is really well written. Sarah and Bret are relatable and feel authentic and it’s so obvious they love each other (at least to anyone but them). Bret is a waaaay better man than her ex. Ultimately this wasn’t my type of book and I have to admit I didn’t finish it , because I’m not a big traditional romance reader, but I think if you’re a fan of sweet, slow burn friends to lovers romance with a side of fake dating and spice, you’ll really enjoy this book and the whole series!
Love following the characters through this world and seeing their interconnectedness thru each new book in the series. Love that everyone is getting their very own love story. Sarah and Bret are no exception.
You know a book is gonna be good when the dedication gets you..
This is the fourth book in the Door County Dreams series, but can be read as a stand alone. Our characters Sarah and Bret have been best friends for so long, but Brets been keeping a secret..
This is a sweet friends to lovers story with a few twist that will leave you wondering .. and routing for these two! Sarah has been hurt in the past and has some issues to work through and Bret is just the guy to see it and her through. Let's throw in some fake dating, and small town romance.. and we have a winner!
There is good character development and if you are new to the Door County Series, you can step right into this story without missing anything. Great friend relationships with some new additions.
