Influenced by the extraordinary tales of Jane Austen and Maria Edgeworth, Hazel Linwood has always adored the fairy-tale like romances of the past. The youngest of four sisters, she has spent most of her youth lost in the classic historical romances of her favorite authors. Despite her parents’ efforts to persuade her to pursue a career in medicine, she found her heart's true calling in English Literature.
After obtaining her degree, Hazel worked as an English teacher. That was until she met her husband and decided to indulge in her secret passion...writing! When she isn’t writing, Hazel enjoys spending time with her family, travelling or roaming the Texan countryside.
Embark on this journey of desire, decorum and intense love of Regency England. Let Hazel transport you into an era of pure, sincere love and charming lords that will take your breath away!
A complete waste of my time. If the author’s goal was to depress and bore her reader, she succeeded. Not worth the time it took to read and skip (hoping it was going to get better)
This was a beautifully crafted historical regency romance where two strangers were forced by different circumstances to enter into a marriage of convenience, facing the challenges that came with getting to know each other and forming a bond as they battled with their own insecurities, their views of marriage and the expectations they had of their relationship.
I wish that there would have been at least a few more chapters before the epilogue, as it feels that there's something missing going from A to B with no explanation and with just the mere knowledge of how things turned out. Overall, it was a great story that took me on a delightful journey and I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a good historical regency romance and is a fan of the marriage of convenience trope as they are in for a sweet treat.
This story is about two people that about to get married. Only she does not want to be married and he has to marry to get his inheritance. They couldn’t be more opposites. Her bad family background, his good, he wanted love she was afraid too, he was kind and patient, she threw obstacles, could they ever find common ground and be happy ? So much happening in this tale with much excitement, emotional drama, plotting and learning to trust for love and happiness. Cecilia and Gregory the Duke of Groveton met when her Father announced she was to marry him. Not being a happy camper about this starts a very rocky road ahead. As you read this captivating story you will be deeply involved with the characters and hope for Happiness and Love to prevail.
Loved the story about a Duke who waited to marry for love, but time was running out so he decided to marry for convenience to someone he admired. Lady Cecelia didn't want to marry because her father always brought women into their house and not care what his family thought. Now she thinks all men are the same way. The Duke fell for Cecelia and tried to convince her of his feelings, although someone tried to convince her the Duke was in love with her and not his wife. Do they convince Cecelia that she is unloved or does the Duke convince her he really does love her?
This was an interesting book. Cecelia believed men were shallow and dishonest, pursuing their own interests without regard for the feelings of others. She had to overcome a lifetime of distrust to accept that some men could be trusted and loved. The strength of this book was the development of the relationship between Cecelia and her new husband. The weakness of the book was how naive and unaware of the true circumstances she and her maid were at the culmination of the book. Neither were unintelligent people.
Will Cecelia allow herself to love her husband? It starts as a marriage of convenience for them both but the attraction is there but like all good romance things will happen that will put the brakes on them coming together. This was such a good story with likable characters put into challenges that could break any human. I could not help falling in love with the characters and being drawn into their story. It was a charming romance with a touch of intriguing and suspense.
This story offered a view I feel we don't often see, that is, the marriage after the wedding. I was definitely intrigued by that and happy to read about it, but it did feel a little too good to be true at times. In saying that, I really did like the lead up to the wedding and the bride's thought processes as she was basically married off and then learning to find her place in her new life. Overall, an enjoyable read.
A father that thinks women are only put on earth formers amusement, Cecilia catches her father in a tryst when she was a child. And can’t trust men, plans to remain unmarried. But her father betrothed her to young Duke Gregory, as he has to marry to get his full inheritance! But people in his home are set to cause trouble at every turns! Enjoyed it very much!
Mixed feelings on the beginning of this book. The end was great.
Ms. Lindwood spent so much of the book on the relationship between father and daughter that I felt like not finishing the book. The villain was not hidden, but I with the writer had hidden her it would have added interest to the story. I wonder if this was an early book by Ms. Linwood, that would explain why her current writing is so much better.
This is a nice sweet and clean read. I personally was not a fan of the heroine she was obnoxiously rude and arrogant. Why she would trust Marianne and why she continually distrusted her husband made no sense. It was also not normal to e.e ate one’s maid as she did. It made no sense to me
I loved this story. Cecilia’s parents seemed real to life for that era. Cecilia and Gregory’s story is really beautiful. Neither of them wanted to marry, but he needed an heir. Cecilia was forced to marry Gregory by her father (a terrible man). They do find the love they both need in the end!
Cecelia was very opposed to marriage. Gregory was looking for a bride and hoping it would end in love. Cecelia had walls around her heart and Gregory had to work really hard to win her trust. Then disaster strikes and he nearly loses Cecelia but as in true love they find a way to reconcile and move into a loving relationship.
Cecilia married Gregory a duke because her father insisted and they began to grow close but someone tried to tear them apart The characters are kind and sweet and they find happiness A very good read and well written
I’ve never given a book 2-star rating but I had to. It started out okay but I could not understand the attitude of the father. The h was just silly. The H seemed like a great guy. I think I’m done with Ms Linwood.
This is a magnificently crafted story of love overcoming mistrust and scheming enemies. The heartache and emotional turmoil, combined with the characters who are created with immense courage and strength, make this a very enjoyable read
Imagine being forced into a marriage of convenience. Cecilia doesn't want to marry but Gregory must. Her father decided to marry her off anyway. She starts to trust but someone interferes. Can they work it out?
I really liked the first part of the book where the lady faces her trust issues and her insecurities. The dialogues were charming. Mid way through the book though, it just seemed rushed. Suddenly went from gradual to deep in love in an instant. The story could have been better developed in the later half.
I usually love all the characters I Hazel Linwwod's books. This time though I had trouble relating to the main characters. The book was interesting though.
Well written. Novel moved along slowly & steadily without a lot of emotion or chemistry between the H & h. The h was very immature & the H was disappointing.
