Ha capito di avere dei numeri nel giornalismo musicale quando, incontrando casualmente Tom Jones nei bagni di un hotel, lui le chiese: “Dov’è l’uscita?”.
Gli amici la definiscono “una teppista buona”; i non-amici non la definiscono proprio.

Had some interesting information - unfortunately it also had a lot of spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Also found a lot of repeated words as well, sometimes entire parts of sentences were repeated twice. I read the English translation of this book, which didn’t seem to be proofread. I also found that the translator had taken a complete sentence and broken it up into a series of shorter sentences, so sometimes the flow felt very stop start and could have flowed much smoother if the sentences had been left in their entirety. As I haven’t read the book in its original language, however, I can’t say whether this was how it was in the first place. In a nutshell it wasn’t a very easy read, but for all the wrong reasons.

Sebbene sia altisonante nel titolo, Valeria Sgarella svolge in questo inedito libro un eccellente lavoro di ricerca (con testimonianze dirette del fratello e della madre di Andy Wood) consegnando anche in Italia (ed in italiano) le vicende -finora poco trattate- della Seattle pre-Nevermind, senza retorica e quelle facili autocelebrazioni, disgregando con grande professionalità il “what if” che ha sempre aleggiato sopra la testa di Andy Wood e della sua prematura morte. Consigliato anche per la passione con cui è stato scritto.

Overall a worthwhile read. Some great interviews with family members and friends of Andy. A ton of rare and interesting stories and despite the obvious translation issues very enjoyable.
However there are some wildly inaccurate statements in this book. As someone who has studied Andy’s life for over 30 years, I learned some things but there were things that are just not true in this book. I find that strange being how extensive the research obviously was.
I would recommend reading this but with a grain of salt. For the best source check out Scot Barbour’s masterpiece “Man Of Golden Words”

La fine di una storia può a volte, decidere l'inizio di un'altra storia. Straziantemente gelido ma verosimilmente profondo. La ricostruzione di una vita spezzata troppo presto, ma senza la quale non avremmo avuto un enorme pezzo di storia del Rock. Inconsapevolmente, Andy Wood è stato il catalizzatore indiscusso che ha permesso al suono di Seattle, di trovare un suo posto nel mondo. Per gli amanti del genere: da leggere assolutamente!

While this book gave an interesting account of the history of Landrew and Mother Love Bone, it felt tabloid-y at times and written as if it was a movie script, with weird and unnecessary cliff hangers at the end of almost every chapter. Some very obvious typos showing a lack of proper editing. Still good to read once if you like MLB and the history of the early Seattle/grunge era, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it otherwise.

The sign of a good biography is when you've finished, you feel that you know the person a little... you don't simply know the details of their life; you have a sense of who they were and how they fit (or didn't) in their family and in the world.
This is very much the case with Valeria's book about Andy Wood. It's beautifully written and tells the story so well - a story I was almost completely unfamiliar with. The storyline is filled with intimate little touches about Andy's relationship with his mom, his brother, his dad, his bandmates... details that illustrate his world and bring him and his work to life for the reader, clearly the work of someone who knows how to tell a story and who has done so with great care.
The book was written with the cooperation and involvement of many of Andrew's friends, family and bandmates, including his mother and brother, and bandmates/peers Regan Hagar, Mark Arm, Steve Turner, Jack Endino and Stone Gossard. It was the first book ever written about Andy Wood when it was published in 2016 - in the Italian language. Now, finally it has been translated into English.
A beautiful book about a complex, talented and supremely influential soul.

Una bella storia raccontata male.
Ha il merito di aver raccontato Andy Wood in italiano, ma ci sono delle divagazioni che non sempre sono pertinenti e che rendono la narrazione sconnessa e slegata. E spesso l'autrice allo scopo di creare - forse - un effetto drammatico, si incarta e quello che sortisce è solo confusione. In a nutshell, ha le potenzialità ma non si applica. (Lei e l'opera).
Ad ogni modo, leggendola ho provato tanta nostalgia per qualcosa di veramente bello e grandioso che fu. E concordo con Gilmore: quando il mondo ha scoperto il grunge, era ormai già tutto finito. Come l'innocenza.

Do you love 90's grunge? You need to check this book out. It was put together well. Andy Wood "God Father" of grunge. Lead singer of Mother Love Bone. From his childhood to his first band Malfunktion....his cross roads of Green River and transition into Mother Love Bone. Tragedy that lead to Temple of the Dog and the birth of Pearl Jam. He has crossed paths with so many people. The book Includes Chris Cornell and Sound Garden, Nirvana, Alice in Chains and other greats. All of this took place in the small scene of Seattle in the mid and late 80s before the grunge scene became huge.

scritto con passione e competenza, un ottimo modo per avvicinarsi alla musica ed alla poetica di Andy Wood, consigliato in combinazione con l'ottimo documentario+doppio cd "Malfunkshun-The Andy Wood Story" e al recente cofanetto contenente l'opera omnia dei Mother Love Bone.
