The Scent of Deception

I was raised to live a pampered life, and now it can never be mine.

As the omega who never manifested, I became the family secret. That is, until a wealthy alpha makes me a deal: Marry him and pretend to be his pack omega so he receives his inheritance. After six months, I’ll get my money and live out the rest of my life in peace.

But the deception is wearing thin—someone knows I’m not who I pretend to be. The threats to expose us get more intense, bringing my temporary mates and I even closer.

And as I start to see just how hard they're willing to fight for me, I find myself asking: Is this the happily ever after I’ve been searching for?

Hi! I'm Laurel, I love all things fantasy, magic, and sci-fi, so you may find that my books have surprising twists that you didn't see coming.

I'm an avid traveller and adventurer, and I find my travels inspire stories I want to write! I have an amazing daughter and we currently live in the shadows of the Smoky Mountains. I love a good craft cocktail, sunny beaches and snowy slopes, and a cozy chair with a nearby fireplace for the perfect read.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It did drag a little for me at one point, but that was more down to my tastes - I'm not a fan of straight-up contemporary romance and at one point this felt very much of that genre. Once the suspense elements soon kicked in, along with some well-written angst, the story soon picked up the pace again. I would have liked a little more depth to the blackmail storyline - it felt very much as though it ran out of steam, and was tied up a little too easily for me to fully buy into the resolution. I also wondered why so much was made of Sapphire's former singing career since it seemed to be forgotten part way through the story. It felt strange that two performers were living together and we never got a single scene of them sharing their love of music - such a missed opportunity.

I found the characters enough, and thankfully it was easy to differentiate between the men. So many "why choose" books don't seem to achieve that very important aspect. The guys turned out to be a little sweeter than I care for, whilst I don't mind one guy being "gentler" in nature I do like at least one to be more dominant or ruthless.

This is an enjoyable omegaverse with a "why choose" romance, sweet alphas, a pliant heroine and a marriage of convenience.

I had mixed feelings on this story. I enjoyed the premise a lot, however the blackmail plot felt a little obvious and the story relied a little too much on it for it to be so flimsy. A lot of the timeline is them just waiting for something to happen with the blackmailer and I feel like we needed another layer of tension or drama in there to spice things up. I thought it was pretty clear who the blackmailer was immediately (like before they even got the blackmail letter…. I saw it coming from the first time you meet that character tbh), so it would have been fun if that was a little less obvious. In terms of the relationship building and character building it felt a bit weaker than the previous book, but it was better than the first book.

My main issue with this one is, again, the inconsistencies with the basic biology, societal rules, and world building that is going on in the shared universe. The authors all really needed to do a better job of agreeing on the basics of their shared ABO world. In this book, the pack consists of 2 Alphas and 1 Beta, it was a major plot line in the first book that a registered pack must have 3 Alphas. This is a big inconsistency that invalidates the world building established in the rest of the series. Book 1 shows no importance for marriage with a big emphasis on pack bonding and marking during heat for things to be legal. Book 2 shows pack marriage as being important and the marriage is a pack thing, they also talk about bonding as being part of sex but it can happen outside of heat and doesn’t establish a legal tie. Book 3 (this book) has the marriage as being a 1:1 thing with the pack as ancillary members which seems out of place for this world. There is also no mention of bonding or marking whatsoever even during heat. Presumably these are all things that are either basic biology or established societal norms, and therefore their consistency across a shared universe is vital for world building. As I’m reading through this series, every time a previously established world ‘rule’ is broken it takes me out of the story because it clashes with what we already know rather than building upon it further.

Even though this is an omegaverse romance, the tropes really veered into contemporary romance territory. We’ve got billionaire alphas + an omega with a secret + fake marriage/pack relationship for an inheritance + mild romantic suspense. ✅✅✅ to my preferred tropes, basically.

Sure, points taken off for somewhat uneven characters and an anti-climatic conclusion for the romantic suspense plotline… but honestly, I really enjoyed the premise and had a pretty good time reading this.

Note - I switched from audiobook to ebook about 20% of the way in, as I wasn't fan of the male narrator.

Scent of Deception is the third book in the Bonds of Steele series and I'm sad that I hadn't read the previous two books before this one. I'm sure they can be read in any order, so I'll probably go grab those soon. As far as this book goes, it was a really sweet omegaverse story with a bit of mystery to it as well as a rocky beginning between the characters. Sapphire, Jasper, Rodie, and Winchester go into an arranged pack/marriage. It was something beneficial on all ends but you could tell no one was going full in as it was meant to be a means to an end. The relationships between each character were somewhat slow forming, minus Sapphire with Rodie and his comfortable and friendly disposition. Although things take a bit to get going, when the connections are authentic instead of forced, the relationship between Sapphire and the guys really takes off.

One interesting thing that was in this book and not in other books that I've read is an omega mark that omegas will get on their bodies once they manifest. I've seen fated mate marks or something along those lines before where mates will have matching ones, but the omega marks were something unique. However, there was something that felt off with this book. The lack of mating marks to show claim or that they were involved in a pack was a bit disappointing. There was no biting whatsoever during any of the intimate moments. Instead, the packs were married in a ceremony to show their new bonds. I think this is the first omegaverse book I read where marriage was a necessity once finding an omega instead of something complimentary to their already bonded pack later on. Other than those things, Night did a great job focusing on scents and the attraction of an alpha to an omega or at least their pheromones as well as the knotting--although that came much later in the book since Sapphire wasn't manifested as an omega and their relationships took time to form. I know it sucks, but just have to be patient for a little bit. I promise it is worth it.

I loved this book so much. It hits on the emotional pieces but is on the sweeter side. I got to the end and said “aw man” before realizing there was an epilogue 😂

Bridget did a great job with the narration but Jake seemed to struggle with the southern accent for one of the characters. Still a very enjoyable audiobook though!

This was the most boring omegaverse I’ve ever read.
I wish there was someone I could call to ensure a warning label is placed in the beginning, it’s that bad.

I always suspend my disbelief with these, but beyond the general unlikeability of everyone, this is just not how people talk.

Their conversations are more like presentations. Unending paragraphs of long winded soliloquies and propositions.

No!
There needs to be an exchange or it’s an unrealistic snooze fest.

And what are they doing while they’re speaking endlessly?
Looking out the window? Picking at a loose thread? Juggling decanters of wine?

Setting the scene is integral to the readers immersion in the characters, story, and evoking the necessary emotion from what they’re saying.

Instead, we even get one instance of seventeen (I counted.) substantial sentences of speech with no breaks in between.
But if that doesn’t sound like a lot, don’t worry. We get a twenty sentence monologue later.

We similarly breeze over months at a time and integral events.

Their phrasing is that of someone in their 40s, at the earliest.
She calls the television the boob tube, just like my relatives in their sixties do.
She says things like ‘that’s outstanding!’ like a complete weirdo.
She calls sex: ‘getting some booty.’
They say things like, “I’m going to retreat to my room.” Like they’re some Victorian viscount.
And attention makes Winn ‘wig out.’

You know how they say it takes more muscles to frown than to smile?
I had to massage my face after the workout this gave me.
Even their attempts at banter are stale and just… sad.

And they have their wedding and hangout at plantation homes? Yikes.

I was sighing like a dog who has no reason to be exhausted throughout the whole thing.
It was just so incredibly boring and stiff.

The other guys aren’t even really present until 40% in. And it’s not like the meantime is spent getting to know Jasper or being around him at all.
Man, it’s so boring.

I almost didn’t make it.
I shouldn’t have made it, to be honest.

Over and over again about how her sisters resented her for her stardom but they’ve talked it out since then. Uh, yeah, doubt that was enough.

She only does one cool thing the whole book, and she later has a panic attack about it.
I just…

I had to take numerable breaks for patience.
I normally read multiple books a day.
This is just unsustainable.

So much time was wasted of both mine and the characters’.
We pretty much only get updates every two weeks.
I think I counted eight of those time skips.

There’s a scene that would be cute and even partially redeemable if it weren’t copied verbatim from Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Spice is written passively or just as vague as possible. You’re in the wrong genre for that, beloved.

She and Winchester have multiple conversations where he apologizes for being awful, swears he’ll do better, and then does worse.
That’s manipulation, but at this point, who cares.
At least that’s interesting.

A highly anticipated event was anticlimactically discussed as having occurred without anyone noticing.
Incredible.

The ‘bad guy’ was obvious, of course.

It ended extremely abruptly, and just as poorly as the rest of it. But to me, it was the best part, because it was finally over.

The epilogue was absolutely infuriating because it was actually spicy and even funny! Where was this the whole time?! Why were we suffering when the author was capable of this?!! Ahhh!!!
I will never read anything by this author again.

**Please note: I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.**

This is the third book in the shared Omegaverse in the Bonds of Steele series. Each book features one of the Steele sisters. This is about Sapphire. Once an Omega Idol and apparently the favorite child of her mother, she is now the dirty little secret of the family and hidden away. Because, despite having an Omega birthmark, she never manifested. With twenties years old, which is old as an Omega as it seems, it seems like she is a failed Omega, who is now a Beta.

Still, she has to hide that fact with false Omega pheromone perfumes and fake her Omega mark. When she is discovered by Jasper Whitfield, who needs an Omega to get access to his inheritance, he blackmails Sapphire into marry him. But he offers her, too, freedom from her family and a way back into what she loves.

Of course, no feelings are allowed. But naturally, this arrangement doesn't work out as planned. And throw in a threat, in the form of a blackmailer, who knows about their secret?

So, I liked the story about Sapphire and Pack Hale. The characters were interesting, and the plot could hold my attention. Though, I knew from the beginning who the blackmailer was. But it didn't seem to be the focus of the book anyway. The main point was about Sapphire and the pack, and their inner struggles and insecurities.

This book wasn't much on the Omegaverse front, because of Sapphire wasn't manifested as an Omega. But still there was a palpable sexual connection between the characters. Though, not much spice happens. Which is okay.

Otherwise, I had some things that didn't sum up for me. Meaning, I had difficulties to match the contents of previous books with this one. I have read all so far. I really love it, if authors work together to create a universe. But I hate it, when the theme isn't equally met or characters act different or don't really fit.

For example, Sage Steele. I hated that mother in Violet's and Scarlett's book. She is quite penetrant in those stories. And she constantly picked at her children, even if they did what she wanted. Never satisfied or content. Here she wasn't a huge part. Same goes for her sisters, who were supposed to be tight-knit and hold contact. Other than in the wedding preparations/wedding, they aren't talking with each other or be an active part. Sure, Sapphire tells the guys about her family and her upbringing.

Sure, a lot can be explained with the time, when she was an Omega Idol Superstar and her mother was nice to her. And because of her absence, she never forged a connection. But that didn't fit, because she talked to her sisters in the previous books.

Another example of the mismatching for me is the wedding and traditions. Yes, there was an explanation about regional differences between being north or south. But I find it hard to believe, that only Jasper had to be part of the wedding and in permanent attendance. And then there are the things from the other books. In Violet's book there wasn't a wedding at all, and if I remember correctly it was about the mating bites, which only take hold in her heat? Scarlett's story had a wedding and all the pack were there, and it was more traditional with vows and all. But here? Nothing.

And I really hate that, when I don't get a grip of the society and the terms of the Omegaverse. I get it, that each author has a unique approach. But some things should be the same in all the books, and if there is a difference, it should be explained further.

Overall, I still enjoyed the book and loved the story. That's why I give it 4 stars. And I will read the other books, too.

I saw another one of the Bonds of Steel Omegaverse standalones on Scribd and I couldn’t resist after I loved book 2 of the series. This one upped the ante and I fell for these characters even more than I did the other story. I really liked the concept of this one, I love when music and singing can be brought into a storyline haha. I do wish the author did push a little more with that and added more to that complexity of the storyline because we didnt get to see more of that towards the end or even in the epilogue, but that would be my only critique. I just wanted more because I loved these characters ❤️

I really enjoyed the dynamics with the guys and our beta pretending to be an omega. I felt so bad for what she has had to do because of her horrible mother and the society’s unfair treatment of omegas. I loved how things progressed and how she slowly brought them into her heart (I loved the hints for the big reveal along the way haha). The personalities of the guys were fabulous. Heart definitely goes out to adorable beta, Roadie, who was a little more dominant in the bedroom than I expected (all in a good way!) Winn had to keep apologizing since he had an emotional range of a teaspoon sometimes haha. He had no clue how to handle feelings but the guys helped him see the error of his ways and the way he had to make it up to Sapphire was awesome haha. Jasper I thought was going to be my least favorite because of how he started off but once you find out why he does the things he does, it all made sense. The way he is there for Sapph from the very beginning, even without realizing it, how he finally realized how upset she was and alone and tried to be there while still protecting his pack. I also really enjoyed the sexy scenes, esp some of the group numbers 🥵. I also enjoyed Sapphire as a main character. Sometimes we got some repetitive internal monologue from her or she was a little oblivious to things, but I appreciated her having a backbone with things when she needed to. The side characters were interesting. I was hoping to have more from the stuffy ladies we meet, and was intrigued by the one who kinda went toe to toe with Sapphire. I really thought the bad guy was gonna be a certain crazy family member but I got that wrong 🤣.

Narration was done well, its like a given with this dynamic narration duo haha. I loved the duet aspect, helped really keep the characters alive in my mind as I listened. There were some high tensioned moments in this one that these narrators did a phenomenal job, I didnt want to stop (Winn’s apology, the big reveal at the end with the changes, the threats to the pack/stalker vibes going on and how it impacted Sapph, etc.). These two are already on my automatic listen list, I can’t say enough good things about them ❤️

Overall I really enjoyed this story and wished we could get a follow-up epilogue or future novella so we can see how everyone is doing, may be more singing aspects and the record label, etc.

This one was very inconsistent. The book in the series don't seem to flow and it makes me feel that the authors never spoke about the basics of the storyline. Sorry to the author as it's not exactly her fault but more of an issue with the series. However, I do feel that these inconsistencies really take away from individual storyline. Books 2 and 4 have this plight of the omegas - their oppression and the men that try to make their life better theme. Books 1 and 3 seem to have more spoiled Alphas that I find hard to root for.

Issues that take away from the story:

Omega mark - she has an omega mark but hasn't manifested - what does that mean? In the story she is constantly touching up her mark but some scenes made it sound like she is drawing a new mark and other scenes sound like she is darkening the existing mark.
Pack - the pack is 2 alphas and 1 beta. Very different than other stories.
Omega rejections - this book makes it seem that it is ok for omegas to be rejected but the other books hint that is the worst thing that could happen to an omega because no respectable pack would want any "used" goods.
Bonding - Sapphire only married one alpha. They both said this was legitimate but other books said otherwise - marked/mated. If an omega is marked that is it, the pack can't change partners unless the omega is dead. Everyone will see that Sapphire isn't marked/mated (scent and actual mark).
Sage - in this book she is a "good" enough mom. However, other books she is so vile. Why is Sage ok with this marriage? Wouldn't she inspect her daughter to make sure she is saying the truth because her lie could ruin everything Sage planned for her other daughters. Why isn't she shopping around for more money from other packs for her very famous daughter?

Sapphire:
She is all over the place. In the beginning she said that she wants to be famous and sing again. However, she does absolutely nothing to show this. So she comes off that she is just shallow and wants to be rich. Constant remarks on what the guys are driving and wearing is ridiculous. She is bored around the house and acts like she needs to be catered to. She acts like Jasper owes her something more than a business deal ie. some sort of unrequited love. Also, the fact that she can't bond with cranky W is weird. Out of all the ppl there she should be able to understand why he has a wall up.

Lastly, to me this book is similar to 1st book as I don't really feel anything for the characters. Their relationship isn't tangible. The men aren't redeemable, and the author just flips a switch on their personality - with exception of the beta he was the only consistent character. Epilogue was weird, the heat sounded like none of the men wanted to be there...

“You know I haven’t manifested. What could you possibly want”-

“Freedom, Princess. Just like you.”

Pop Princess Sapphire Steele was a child superstar but now she’s hidden away and keeping the fact that she hasn’t manifested a secret. Away from her younger sisters and with her older sisters out living their lives within packs, Sapphire is holding herself together and being just a normal face in the crowd Sapphire has a chance of living normally completely school.

But, Sapphire craves to perform, let her voice be heard and have her fingers glide across the piano keys. By chance of fate her wish is about to be answered and with a deal in place Sapphire has to carry on pretending to be an omega marrying into Pack Hale.

This arrangement was temporary, like a sand castle on the beach.

Despite her being the perfect omega, Sapphire falls into the pack, some tension arises, each now has to adapt and a threat soon appears which will either strengthen the pack or rip them all apart.

One thing Sapphire can be certain of, omega or not…no one will harm her males.

“Are you trying to take advantage of me, Miss Steele?”

“Only if you want me to.”

I really enjoyed reading Sapphire’s story! This was different from the previous two as it was all Sapphire and her men, her meddling mother wasn’t involved as much and neither were the sisters. It was nice having that little break away and exploring more of Sapphire's personality and being thrown into this deal that Pack Hale offered her.

Jasper, Rodie and Winn are an interesting group of male with their own personalities and I think they were perfect for Sapphire as they adapt to having her within the pack. Even if it is based on a lie for a deal they show true emotions and some great scenes within these pages that bring the wholesome love these characters share with each other.

Even though she found fame as a child popstar, Sapphire became her family's dirty little secret when she didn't manifest as an Omega. But when Jasper, a prominent Alpha discovers her 'failing' and offers her a deal she can't refuse, she suddenly has a second chance. He wants to take control of the family's music company but his fathers insist he is married before they will hand it over. If Sapphire agrees to marry him, he promises to give her a music contract and enough money to live the life she wants. It seems like a win/win situation until Sapphire starts catching feelings for Jasper and his packmates, Winn and Rodie, and then starts receiving threats from someone who has figured out their plan.

Part of the shared world series of the Steele sisters, this is a sweetverse that is hard to put down once you start reading. I loved the Nashville setting. The author captured the duality of the city from Belle Meade to Honky Tonk Highway. The city was a great representation of the men in the pack; laser-focused, workaholic Jasper, musical genius Winn, and fun-loving Rodie. They seemed to have little in common, yet they blended perfectly. But it took Sapphire to make them whole. I enjoyed the story but thought it was rushed. Winn was my favorite but I thought he needed more of an atonement arc, and the ending was abrupt. I guess it was left up to the reader to continue but I would have liked to spend some quality time with the pack after the threats and uncertainty were over.

Straightforward, uncomplicated storyline, but kept to their personalities realistically.
Also, I felt like all their reactions were more normal.

Pros:
Her finding joy with Roadie first was excellent. He deserved it, as all happy go lucky people do. I feel like we all have someone in our lives that do this for us.
Ohhh boy, Jasper going Alpha was 🔥
I enjoyed that they discussed issues as adults, even if their initial reactions to situations was terrible. But honestly, who doesn’t react badly every now and then?
And then Winn. Laurel did a good job helping us see the flip side of his personality. He was a grumpy guts, but you could see why, and seeing him all insecure and gun-shy over things was cute.
Laurel was great at feeding us little by little the obvious omega traits, and equally as good at having the fmc brush it aside.

Cons:
I feel like because it was meant as a standalone, there were aspects of the plot and romance that weren’t fleshed out satisfactorily.
The bad people being caught, all an after thought to the romance and plot. It’s fine, it wasn’t terrible, but I also noted it, so it was something.
Her family was glossed over too much. And so was Jaspers. Jaspers family needed to be expanded on. We got hints of things, but nothing more.
The little details of life outside of the romance was basically not there.

Another book to add to the ever expanding world of the Steele sisters’s universe. I am honestly surprised and happy for this concept of expanding a universe by having multiple authors add their own characters and plots to world they establish together. It’s like a co written book, only better because the stories are so much longer. That being said…

Book three is about one of the younger sisters, Sapphire who is a hidden omega of sorts, and a black sheep of the family due to circumstances of not emerging as her birth given designation. While the mother isn’t as heavy handed in this one, unlike in book two, you still get reminded she and the other sisters are still there. Not exactly where this falls into place in the overall timeline since nothing is really mentioned, like her sister’s wedding or anything. A whirl wind wedding of her own… the book time jumps quite a bit, though in a way to keep the story flowing and not drawn out, and is mostly told from Sapphire’s pov, with e enough from the guys to keep it engaging. Even so I found this story very intriguing and couldn’t put it down as Sapphire, Jasper, Rodie, and Winn worked together to build bonds of trust and love within the pack.

Scent of Deception is the third book released in the Bonds of Steele omegaverse shared world, each book following a different Steele sister. This is Sapphire’s story.

Presumed omega, Sapphire, has never manifested. Hiding her deficit with illicit omega pheromone perfumes and henna for her omega mark, she is discovered and blackmailed to marry into a pack. A marriage of convenience for both parties, only for long enough that each gets what they want. She gets autonomy, and they get control of their inheritance. There will be term limits; no feelings will be hurt. But it doesn’t mean Sapphire can deny the desire for the emotional connection of a true pack bond or can resist the building attraction.

I found Scent of Deception to be low on spice but high on sexual chemistry. There are limited typical OV elements, but that is due to Sapphire’s undeveloped omega state. However, I didn’t feel like it affected my enjoyment of the story. After reading a series of darker romances, I found it a very pleasurable read - a very sweet omegaverse that was a great palate cleanser. It was easy to read in one sitting.

I recommend this story to those who enjoy the sweeter side of omegaverse.

Sweet surprise!
This was a sweet surprise indeed. Initially in the beginning, I was feeling a bit upset and concerned on behalf of our fmc Sapphire. She's in a tough spot and it I was unsure if I was going to like where things were heading. Flash forward a few chapters and the introduction of Rodie (one of the sweetest guys), and I was starting to see a sweet and sexy outcome on the horizon, and Laurel Night certainly delivered. I especially enjoyed and connected with the fmc (Sapphire), who although being in a situation that could suffocate the hope from anyone, she not only carries on but she does it with grace, acceptance, humility and purpose. I love an fmc who maintains her sense of self worth while not needing to destroy the self worth of others, and that is our girl Sapphire.

Without any spoilers, let me just tell you folks, there is a scene in a honky-tonk style karaoke bar at about the halfway point and Sapphire slays a cover of a famous female country music artist. It was quite possibly my favorite scene in this book. I immediately paused reading and streamed that song for a bit. It's a seriously fun scene. 💗😄

I loved reading shared universes and seeing how each author puts their own spin on their characters and the world. I haven’t read the others in this series (yet) but this book has piqued my interest and I plan on reading the others.

I liked the bit of originality of this plot. Sapphire makes a deal with the pack, even though she isn’t an awakened omega, benefiting them both. Of course, someone finds out about the deal and the pack receives threats/is blackmailed. The blackmail was a big plot point but I feel like it didn’t live up to the initial drama. It was smoothed over fairly quickly and the perpetrators were very obvious.

The characters are easily likable with the golden retriever we instantly love, the protective alpha and the broody misunderstood one that eventually comes around. Always a good recipe for a little drama, a little love and you can pick your favorite.

Overall this was a cute omegaverse, not as spicy as most but it was sweet. I’m interested to check out the other authors’ contribution to the series.

Scent of Deception is book three of the Bonds of Steele Omegaverse series of interconnected standalones. Each book in the series is written by a different author and is about one of the Steele sisters.

Sapphire is an omega that hasn’t presented yet so her mother has shipped her of to University so know one will know. When Jasper meets her and finds out her secret he uses the information to get what he wants…a wife so her can take control of his fathers business. But someone else has figured out their secret and threatens to out them. I loved the slow burn and build up of the relationships between Scarlett and the pack. It took a bit to get to the spice but once it did it was explosive!

This book has angst, betrayal, suspense, secrets, drama, heartbreak, and spice. This was a quick read and what I would consider a sweet omegaverse. I have been really enjoying this series and I can’t wait for more of the Steele sisters!

Sapphire was a childhood star who was famous for her singing and being one of seven omega sisters born to her mother. Though as she got older they feared she was failed because she never fully presented as an omega so her mom sent her away to be out of the lime light so people wouldn’t find out. She runs into Jasper at a party and he discovers her secret and decides to blackmail her so they can both benefit each other. He needs to be married to an Omega to be able to inherit his fathers record company and she needs to be free from her mother. They decide to team up and get married to help each other out. Things change along the way and feeling start to grow then add in some blackmail and it makes things interesting. She later awakens as an omega but they have already accepted her into the pack so they get their HEA.

I went into this not knowing what to expect as it was my first ever Omegaverse story. I think it’s safe to say that I am hooked! I could not put this amazing goodness wrapped up into a book down. Scent of Deception was the perfect story to introduce me into the Omegaverse world.

Laurel has done a fantastic job bringing these characters to life and when I finished reading I wanted more of them. I didn’t want it to end. I loved all of the Southern sayings, the sweet moments between the characters, the humour throughout and the mystery behind who the villain was.

Laurel has created a wonderful story with a good paced plot, the perfect amount of drama and spice, mulit POV’s (which I love) and characters that stick with you and that I hope to see more of.

Sapphire is an assumed omega that hasn’t revealed. Giving into her family pressures, she’s caught in her family’s blackmail deceit, forced into a marriage of convenience in order to keep her family out of disgrace. But what on earth could go wrong? Heh. I loved Sapphire’s character. Despite the crappy situation she was forced into, she takes on this role and ends up connecting with the pack, and being what the pack never knew they needed. It’s a lovely turn on them. I love seeing her slip into a role the pack wasn’t expecting. This is a nice break from dark and bully stories. Though not 100 percent all light and fluffy, I would say it errs on the side of a sweet OV story. Check out the author, there is an epilogue!!

Okay

The book seemes to move at too rapid a pace and the plot felt really contrived and then super quickly tied up without much thought. The characters were somewhat interesting, but I felt they were shallow at best and needed more development to truly be interesting. The whole overly southern thing was irritating. Esp the reference to pig sh*t during a s3x scene. I honestly don't know anyone who speaks like that, or would be referencing anything along those lines during fun times and it made me wanna finally juat give up on the book. Thankfully it was at the very end.
So, yeah, there needed to be a lot of development here, with the characters and the plot and even the characters motives. It all felt very superficial and unsatisfying.

This is such an adorably sweet omegaverse romance that I just couldn't put down!

It's such an easy read - there's not too much drama or intensity and the plot is really based around the romance , but it works! If you want a light easy read then this is perfect!

I am so in love with Rodie that if I could switch my otherwise perfect husband for him then I probably would.😍

Fake/marriage of convenience ✅️
Alphas ✅️
Unmanifested omega ✅️
Cinnamon roll Beta ✅️
Little bit of spice ✅️

I'd totally read this again as a comfort read 🥰

I received an arc of this book and am leaving an honest review.

This books is the 3rd in a 6 book series about the Steele sisters. This book is based around Sapphire and her deal with Jasper Hale. This story revolves around Sapphire not manifesting as an omega and a mystery behind who is blackmailing their pack. This is a slow burn, knotty, alpha and omega, reverse harem book. When I started reading this I could not put it down. This entire book left me on the edge of my seat and I just fell in love with these characters. The only thing stopping it from being 5 stars in my opinion is that the ending came on quickly and I felt there was more background story that could have been added.

Who doesn’t love a story that has all the goodness with a mystery involved into it! I love Sapphire and her sweet, charming personality. Sure she is used to fame but she doesn’t act like one of the stuck up snobby people. Then we have Jasper, Rhodie, and Winn who are some great male characters that only added to the story. Jasper has that refined, distinguished personality that is all alpha male, Rhodie is your carefree kind of guy, and Winn is your Mr. Grumpy that you can’t help but like. There is a bit of mystery that draws you in a keeps you glued to it. It is extremely well written and developed. I really enjoyed Sapphire’s story and to be honest wished it had more. Most definitely a must read.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

I really enjoyed this story. Based on the premise I wasn’t sure what to expect at first but it was an interesting twist. The story had some predictable things in the plot but it was still really good. It was super sweet. Had some share a bed for safety features. Spice wasn’t much but it didn’t take away from the story. It’s kind of like a finding out who you are kind of story and people learning to trust. It was a pretty fast read too. I do feel like the ending was very abrupt so that was a little bit of a downside for me.

Minor spoilers:
I do wish the heat had been apart of the story and the mating bites.

Orange Blossoms or Cherrie Vanilla

Sapphire has been groomed to be the perfect Omega but somehow she hasn't manifested. Her dragon of a mother stows her away where noone will notice and her moment of rebellion lead her down a path of blackmail, contracts and keeping up charades to hope for a better life eventually. Her new pack barely acknowledged her as they kept living their lives while loneliness creeps in. She finds herself in the midst of threats that actually help form emotional bonds between her and Jasper as well as Rodie. Sapphire has to trust her pack and the journey to her HEA, despite some setbacks, is fun to follow along. The Epilogue was epic. Great addition to the series.

Sapphire is in a difficult situation, she was once a child-star, she was groomed to be the perfect Omega. Now she is an un-manifested Omega, leaving her as a beta and lying about her pheromones, she gets caught in her lie by Jasper, a very prominent alpha. He is looking to be able to take over his dad's music company, and in order to that, he needs to be married to an omega. This marriage of convenience helps both parties, Sapphire will get a music deal and money and Jasper will get his company. The pack seemed to have little in common, yet they blended perfectly. It took Sapphire to make them whole again, which I enjoyed.

This was my first foray into Omegaverse, and as per usual I couldn't help but do something different for the genre. It's a gift and a curse!

But I love the character of Sapphire. I usually write such strong, determined women, and Sapphire is a much softer, sweeter person it was joy to explore Nashville through her eyes.

Fun Fact: I visited Nashville for the first time this summer, and I knew immediately that was where Sapphire's new home would be. As a girl growing up on the West Coast, a transfer to the home of country music would really make her a fish out of water.

But somehow, Sapphire manages to swim just fine :)
